WC → 000 ::private for a Raze! By the Grimwell Caverns, Lupus form

The musician had woken up that morning to find Omni gone, but a note attached neatly to the pillow explaining her absence, apparently she had gone out to check out that new pack, the one that had been established not too long ago. The hybrid ate his meal in silence, missing the usual morning chatter that frequented every day. It appeared as if his mate wasn't going to be back soon, horribly so. Jacinto left his room in the Mansion, not stopping to say hello to Helotes, he would most days. But today he had nothing to say.

He wanted to thank his brother many times, to drive the gratitude in like a nail. The rust splashed Lykoi was tentative to tell others about his mateship, the new arrangement that he still wasn't quiet accustomed to. Columbine had been not so nice, making sure that Jacinto felt the waves of dislike towards both him and his mate. If only Col had known what it felt to be loved and give love. Maybe Jacinto was too soft for Inferni. Having never taking any interest at all for sparring or combat, preferring to work on his music and see the world in a more peaceful soft way. He had heard of his uncle Razekiel, and felt as if there was many similarities between them. He had often thought of seeking out Raz, but dismissed it thinking of the way Sage had been exiled. That could have been him. One little slip-up.

The lanky Scorpius quickly exited the Mansion, sighing happily the minute the cold breeze ruffled itself through his fur. The Lykoi took a moment to shift to his smaller four-legged form, enjoying the vitality and speed the form gave him. He headed out, finding himself near the caverns that Zeke lived near, he didn't quite go into them but looked in awe at the place. He stepped off easily to the trees a ways away from the rock forms, laying down easily to rest his head upon gangly paws. Fiery orange eyes glanced lazily upon the terrain around him. Without Omni, he was useless.

Rambly beginning; mythology class rocks. Actually, everything is rambly and this is long. xD Sorry for the wait too! /+3

In mythology, Lethe was the river of mindlessness and oblivion. After a Greek had died, traveling to and through the Underworld, they could be granted entrance to the Elysian Fields and watch their life replay itself again and again for a thousand years. They would choose their next life, any life they wanted—and it was then that they would drink from the river water, erasing their memories. And so they would be reborn, clueless that they had chosen the new form they walked in: the eternal return.

Vesper knew naught of Greek myth, but she did entertain ideas of reincarnation and might accept the tale if it was given to her. The practice of religion itself wasn’t something that she especially cared for, though she knew that a fair number of members in the clan worshipped or followed the laws set forth by a god. All she knew was what she saw with her eyes and what reason suggested she believe in.

In her case, Lethe was only a river that cut into the caverns that made her home. When she was restless and wandered the caves, she could hear it bubbling lethargically, could nearly smell the cold water as she traveled through the darkness. Even now, the pale blue of her eyes only a rim around dilated pupils, she ventured deeper into Grimwell and pricked her ears toward the sound of the water. There were several tunnels branching off this main one she walked, too dark for her to feel safe heading near. If she had to die, she would prefer it be in daylight, her teeth fixed in someone—not in the dark because she happened to get lost.

Her paw fell upon something stiff and covered in a thin layer of softness, and with revulsion she jerked back and sniffed the rock-hard thing on the ground. Her tongue slithered from her jaws to touch it, and she snorted as she recognized it for what it was: a dead bat, fallen from its perch on the ceiling. It had not survived hibernation, for some reason, and she sniffed again for hints of decay before grasping the thing in her mouth. She was slightly repulsed by eating something already dead and in the dark, but she hadn’t eaten anything so far, and she wasn’t sure what her plans were for the day. She might as well get a chance to wolf down the bat now in case luck wasn’t on her side.

She squinted once she exited the caverns, letting herself get used to the warmth of the late winter sun. Her lithe, scarred body stretched, each limb balanced out in the air, her back arching and tail swishing. She was about to drop the bat down to eat it when she detected another coyote’s scent: male, Lykoi, and specifically a Helotes brand of Lykoi. The smell was explicitly intertwined with a female aroma, something familiar but apparently not enough for a name to come with the odor.

Curious, Vesper approached the smell and saw a small, dusty brown male reclining on the ground. He had the telltale splash of ginger on his head, too. Definitely a Lykoi, which didn’t surprise her, but her guess that this was a brother of Helotes and Columbine faltered. He didn’t look nearly as ferocious as his darker brothers.

“Hey there,” the pale tawny she-yote said, but the bat dropped from her jaws then, one wing unfurling. It was a sad sight, so tiny on the ground, and she could feel her stomach clench again with a hint of disgust. She pushed the irrational feeling aside—food was food—and cocked her head at the male with scarred brow arched. “So who are you?”

OOC → ::Hey Raze! Big Grin I luv this beautiful razey table

Grimwell was unfamiliar to the dusty Lykoi, it happened to amaze the hybrid knowing he had been in Inferni for a while now, and only had the knowledge of the areas close to the Mansion. What came even more pitiful, he only knew a handful of the inhabitants, and other faces went by with no name in his mind. Quietly, Jacinto's mind flicked to the conversation he had with his eldest brother. The was a definite knot of guilt buried in his stomach, he never knew that one day he would choose a woman over his family. Unfortunately, Columbine gave the musician no other option. It couldn't work out the way everyone wanted it to.

Columbine's harsh words to this day still bounced aimlessly from one side of his mind to another. Omni couldn't possibly be a whore, he knew of the scar carved into her leg, but not once did she leave to sleep around with others, the brown male would know by now. Her willingness to stay with him and the interest in the things he liked was simply promising, and with mateship came attachment and keeping your promise of preventing deception through unfaithful deeds.

Pehaps they had to get away from Inferni, with the vow of coming violence directed towards them from his dusky eldest brother, how could he protect Omni? Leaving to join another group of canines would be traitorous towards the clan, how could he risk being pushed away from Ilusion and Helotes? It felt stupid to consider Ichika no Ho-en, but sometimes in his subconscious he thought of meeting his uncle and cousin. The only barrier from that would most likely be the forever banishment of both him and Omni from Inferni, and what would it be like to be cut off from his siblings?

A voice cut through the wave of thoughts and immediately his eyes shot open. A female coyote stood beyond the rusty Lykoi, asking him who he was. The reclining canine stood up stretching his rested muscles, before waving a dark splashed tail undecidely. "I'm Jacinto Lykoi." Rolling a shoulder in his four legged form, quietly Jacinto stated "You might have met one of my siblings...Helotes is my brother." Instead of stating all of their names, he knew that Helotes was the most known out of all four, and giving this female the information she needed would've been much more worthwhile. "And you're?" As the words were spoken, the hybrid took notice of the dead bat sitting by her feet. He raised an eyebrow at the sight, not as if it were vulgar, almost daring her to eat it. It wasn't a top choice of meal, but something at least. In his mind, he didn't want anything. It was her find and shall remain hers unless she chooses otherwise. Asking for any was out of the question knowing it was in his rank to bring in the food for the hungry mouths to feed.

You get a lame weird post. Sorry for the wait. x_x +3

The rusty-furred male stretched as he rose, showing off a form that was small but graceful, one that boasted agility and speed if not strength. The build was something that she could relate to, being small and compact herself; the wolf blood in her hadn’t done very much for her musculature and size, that was for sure. She pricked her ears forward to hear his soft voice as he offered his name, Jacinto, and nodded once when he confirmed that the pack’s Hydra was his brother.

“Helotes is my friend,” Vesper said, one of the very few times she had ever acknowledged such a thing out loud. It was a strange transformation, anyway, from having post-traumatic nightmares about him to considering him with respect and brotherly affection. “Almost like a weird brother to me himself,” she went on, smirking faintly, “which I guess means we’re family in the most non-literal way possible?” She shrugged to show that she thought little of what she just said, knowing that until he proved his worth and kindness in her eyes, she wouldn’t regard him as much more than a clan mate.

His orange eyes fell to the bat even as he asked her name, and with a sigh she flung her small lupus frame down on the ground beside the thing. “I’m Vesper, the Optio,” she said, deciding she might as well add her title as well as her name. It didn’t make a difference in her eyes, but letting others know that she had a high rank would help her be seen with respect and would cause less trouble for her. She would love to rub her rank in Columbine’s face, for example.

She sniffed in his direction again before dropping her muzzle to the bat, tearing the wing off to busy her jaws. “You smell like a girl,” she pointed out, almost sly. Normally, she didn’t care for that kind of business, but—well, she liked girls. It was something to talk about, different than “what’s your rank?” or “how long ya been here?”

She really needed to work on her conversation skills.

OOC → :: Jacinto is a complete doofus...He fumbles a lot Big Grin

Jacinto let his tongue rasp gently over one dusty tan paw as she announced her name and rank. Optio? Wasn't that a leader rank? He nodded and quietly murmured "Scorpius." it seemed right to say, having her state her own position as well. He knew that it was not a particularly high rank in that matter, but it was not something to fret over. As long as he fulfilled his duties, it'd be alright. It was encouraging in the strangest of ways to the chocolate Scorpio, that his brother was thought well of to someone else. "Yeah Helotes is cool. Nice guy."Even if it wasn't his own status. He let himself politely study the wiry Optio, it seemed like she had been in many scuffles in the past, a fighter she must have been. A survivor in most walks of life.

A small cough of surprise reverberated from the throat of the small Lykoi, as she said he smelled like a girl. And he took it the wrong way for a small moment. Did this female say he smelled feminine? He certainly didn't go roll in petunias for that. Calming from his show of surprise, finally he realized the scent of another woman that clung to his pelt. "Oh." Jacinto managed stupidly "I live with a girl...Is that what you meant?" In his own embarrassment, his tail thumped halfheartedly on the soil. "She's-Her name's Omni...Have you met before?" The hybrid was curious, maybe she had met Omni once before.

Realizing how stupid it could really turn out to be, to tell someone of his mateship to the tawny furred Cadeaux, this could be just like how Col acted, and it would be rather unfortunate. The Lykoi didn't know how mates were accepted here, except for the fact that Helotes had welcomed Omni in with open arms. "So..." He added quietly, hesitantly even.

Scorpius—the hunter rank. It seemed like a duty that all of the pack could fulfill as a matter of simple survival, but then again that could be said for a lot of the responsibilities, like scouting. She could only assume that he’d polished his hunting skills and raised them to an art form; luperci hunted differently than their fully-feral ancestors, too. She nodded in acknowledgment then flashed a small smirk in the small Lykoi’s direction as they spoke of his brother.

Her smirk broke into a laugh when Jacinto was surprised by her remark. If anything, telling him he smelled feminine would’ve been a compliment, though certainly most would disagree. She simply didn’t understand the appeal of overbearing manly-man musk, honestly. It made her feel vulnerable, and not in the weak-in-the-knees swooning sort of way.

The gingery coyote stammered out an awkward explanation and question, and Vesper smirked before her ears perked at the offered name. “Omni,” she echoed with a mouth full of bat, trying to remember why this rang a bell. Oh—the female who’d spooked her outside of these very caverns, one that she hadn’t gotten to know very well and had honestly almost forgotten. It was another reminder that she didn’t really know that many of her clan mates.

“Oh, yeah.” She shot him another broad smirk, swallowing the chunk of bat flesh. “She’s hot and you’re a lucky guy.” Her mirth died down a little as she wondered about his wording—did living with her equate to a relationship, or was it something of less consequence than that? She shrugged, not feeling like apologizing for her obnoxiousness either way. It wasn’t truly her business, though she liked gossip as much as the next normal canine when entertainment was otherwise slow. It was nice to be in the know inside the territory as well as out.

Jacinto couldn't help the grin that spread across his face as Vesper remarked on Omni. Possibly it could be that masculine pride, having a beautiful woman under their wing. However empathetic of women with partners inclined in that direction, the small Lykoi too felt pride. "Yeah...I guess she is." The words of being a lucky guy confused the hybrid somewhat, tilting his head sideways. It was true, Omni was stunning. Columbine had already gotten the wrong idea about their pairing. Jacinto hated it when that had happened. "Although my brother, Columbine hates her. Hates us." He brushed it off with a flick of his tail, he understood his larger brother's temper tantrums over silly things. Only this wasn't silly. It was the rest of his life. Still, Columbine didn't have to act that harshly about it.

He watched as her sharp teeth tore into the dead bat. He couldn't tell from the scent how long it had been decaying, the air now was too crisp and cold to tell. Yet there was a certain dismay at the sight of it. Jacinto sat back on his haunches comfortably, watching the clouds hazily drift by. "So...How long you've been Optio?" Must have been pretty recent, Ves must have exceeded  the rankings fairly fast. He couldn't help but feel somewhat jealous. He held the same rank as Omni. From Columbine, there had to be some mockery there.

Flicking his ears interestingly, Jacinto watched Vesper and the bat. A paw was reached out as if a hand, placed on her shoulder. "Hey Ves, I don't mean to inpose anything, but...How about we get some real food, that doesn't look too tasty...Is it?" Maybe a leisurely hunt would be in order, possibly even a mandatory choice. It had been a while since the lean hybrid had a real meal like fresh warm deer, meal on wheels he would call it. "Because I know this really cool place, and there's food everywhere. And they're especially stupid. Omni and I went there once, brought back several elk. And there's other things..." Hunting elk sometimes was difficult with their size, maybe a fresh rabbit or squirrel would suffice if there could be no deer caught.

^^ You can play them walking to the place in your post. +3

The love-struck grin, that warm pride, almost made Vesper smile in return though she stopped herself from being too friendly at first meeting. She might have been nice, but she didn’t want to be considered someone everyone could run and smile at and babble to—unless they were pretty girls, she supposed, and she lost it. Her lips tilted upwards in a toothier rendition of her normal smirk, her tail wagging once in amusement, until he mentioned Columbine.

“I think that bastard hates everything,” the coywolf spat, surprised at her own venom toward the dark Lykoi. “He’s probably jealous. Couldn’t get a woman with his fuckin’ attitude.”

She snorted and gave her head a shake, somewhat apologizing for her crudeness and show of hatred. She didn’t know why the male got under her skin so, especially because they’d scarcely met but once. Perhaps it was because she was afraid of him in the way she had once been afraid of Helotes. Or the thought of him being mean to his slender little brother and his beautiful companion was spiking her fur up. She didn’t know and didn’t care. So long as she didn’t actually fight with Columbine, she was free to resent him from a distance.

She pretended that he wasn’t watching her eat the bat, which wasn’t too old other than being a little bit stiff. She paused, chewing, as he asked the question and answered with a little shrug. “I’m not good with keeping track of time, but—about a month or so, I’d say.” It was of little consequence to her, at least with daily interactions. She did not demand respect like some high-ranking canines did; so long as she received the consideration any comrade should, she didn’t expect people to look at her in awe. Part of her still wondered if she even deserved having a paw in leading the clan, since she was so new—but she had trusted Ezekiel’s judgment about everything else and trusted his judgment with her own promotion.
His cream paw touched her shoulder, and she glanced at him with a smoothed-over expression,

proud of herself for not jumping. She smirked at his suggestion, however, and gave the dead bat’s wing a little smack. “Eh, it’s okay, but I wouldn’t say no to some real food.” She wondered what to do with the carcass, not wanting to leave it out for a pack member to smell. Perhaps she’d carry it along until she saw one of the ravens that forever circled over the Waste.

“Sure,” Vesper agreed again as he began to describe an elk-rich place. She pushed herself onto all fours, giving her coat a shake as she nodded at him. “Been a while since I’ve hunted anything bigger than a fat rabbit. Lead the way, Scorpius.” She grinned and bowed her head with gentlemanly elegance.
