Word Count → 306 :: Halcyon Mtns., Pictou Falls

It was rare for Cerberus to be found in his lupus form, but since he’d remained in it during his encounter with the funny male from yesterday, he decided to continue on in it as he was ready to hunt again anyway. At the base of the falls, Cerberus stood with his snout pointed toward the water, mismatched eyes alert and scanning for any sign of movement. Though he didn’t mind fish, they certainly weren’t his favorite; why eat fish when you could have an elk? But for some reason, his appetite wasn’t entirely there today, and a sea-food dinner was fine enough for him.

Tail swishing mischievously behind him, Ceri’s breath halted in his throat as he spotted a fish swimming his way. He waited…and waited…and waited…until finally he leapt into the water, jaws agape and aimed for the fish. There was a violent splash before a soaked Cerberus trotted back onto the shore with the flopping creature in his mouth. With a quick tightening of his jaws, he killed the wriggling thing and then dropped it on the ground, water drizzling off his pelt as he lowered his head to eat.

Though his fur was messy enough when dry, seeing Cerberus wet was purely comical, as his fur splayed out in various directions after a quick shake. But he didn’t mind. Today had been a quiet day, void of any company. And though he felt lonely at times, more often he felt purely content. He had grown accustomed to the belief that he didn’t need someone else to make him happy, and he could survive just fine as a lone wolf. Today would simply be another day, carried on like any other. Finishing off his meal, Cerberus lifted his head and ran his pink tongue over blood-stained lips, his tail wagging all the while.

OOC: Hopefully this makes sense, haha. So over-tired! D:

Ciara was on a mission. She had taken it upon herself to explore the lands surrounding her pack so she’d never be surprised. The mottled black, white and tawny yearling had inspected every species of plant, every rodent she could find, and even the big game – though they were watched from afar. She’d learned from her Epsilon Augustus that she mustn’t go after the big game by herself, much to her displeasure. The young wolfess wanted to prove herself to the pack. Right now she was a lowly subordinate, not quite at the base level of the Omega but not of a standing rank either. She almost envied Noah, the Omega, for even though he was the lowest in the pack’s hierarchy, he still knew his job. Ciara never knew what she could do to help the pack, or show them that she could be useful.

So she’d begun her hobby as a scout. The yearling knew that it wasn’t her place to respond to the calls of lone wolves on New Dawn’s borders, but she could certainly check out all the areas surrounding the pack. She’d tracked herds, found long empty dens of other predators, and had extensively studied the shoreline. The one thing she hadn’t done was follow the river she loved which passed close to the pack’s den and lead out into the neutral territory. It was that route she was following today, leading herself along the bank into the Halcyon Mountains.

She didn’t notice how far she’d traveled or how long she’d followed the river until she heard the splashing of something in the water. Earth-coloured hues narrowed suspiciously, for water creatures were something she was not used to. Noah had once attempted to take her fishing in optime form, but the young subordinate had never grown used to it. She enjoyed simply drinking from the water and watching it move along in its secret current. The story was completely different for the canine she spotted up ahead, sticking his nose right into the waterfall.

Ciara paused, tail sticking out parallel to the ground in her curiosity. Her ears perked forward, and she cocked her head to one side, and then the next, trying to determine just what the other was doing. Her nose told her that this was a male, and he smelled of a strange mixture of coyote and wolf. She could detect no specific pack odours from him, certainly none of the ones close enough to New Dawn for her to recognize. She decided to throw caution and shyness to the wind, and approach the male, just as he was scarfing down the fish he’d caught.

“How did you do that?” the subordinate asked, clearly impressed with the skill of the coywolf. Her muzzle broke into what could only be described as a sheepish grin. She was amused by the crazy shape the male’s pelt had taken, and it was all she could do not to laugh at him.

Cerberus caught the female’s scent before he saw her, making her address less of a surprise. This was good, however, for if she’d snuck up on him and spooked him, he absolutely would have whirled around and snapped his teeth across her pretty face. And indeed she had a pretty face…and a pretty middle…and a pretty end. Mismatched eyes met the fae’s now, and he straightened up in a masculine way as he noted her curious demeanor. She had the innocent light of inexperience in her eyes, and he liked that. She didn’t carry the threat of a dominating personality either, and he liked that even more. This girl was simply intriguing to the flirtatious coywolf, and he would definitely take advantage of the time they had together, no matter how brief it might prove to be.

Flicking his tail mischievously, Cerberus smirked haughtily and bowed his head in greeting, then glanced down at the ruins of his dinner. It’s quite simple really, he teased, I pick up the meat in my mouth, move my teeth together, and then my digestive system does the rest. Of course he knew she’d meant how he’d caught the fish, but if she really wanted to know how he’d done it, he’d make her stick around to find out. He continued to smirk, too, to show her his desire to play. Suddenly, however, he realized how ridiculous he must look, as there seemed to be a grin tugging at the corners of the fae’s own mouth. Glancing at his reflection in the water, he quickly smoothed a paw over every bit of fur he could reach and then finally looked back to the girl. Would you like to see me do it again? he finally asked, slinking over to the she-wolf’s side as his smirk turned into a wicked grin. She looked interested, or at least he hoped she was. And it didn’t even have to be in him that she was interested; he could work with the desire to see him hunt. After all, he was a glutton for attention.

OOC: I love Cerri already. xD

Ciara noticed the slight gleam in the male’s oddly coloured eyes, and would have been seen blushing if her pelt wasn’t such a thick covering over her skin. Her ears were cupped forward, nose poking towards the sopping coywolf to take in more of his scent. Of course, she was met with the musky odour of wet fur, and couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose a little, giving a twitch of her tail that showed she was more amused than turned off from it. An inward chuckle rose in her mind as he puffed himself up in front of her, and she had half a mind to nudge him right into the river, though she held back…for now.

When Cerberus made his little joke, Ciara gave a roll of her earth-coloured, flecked eyes. It was a playful gesture, not a condescending one as some of the more mean-spirited females might have given him at his jest. “I know that, you silly pup,” she chided, the innocent and sweet tones of her voice holding no indignation whatsoever. Ciara was a gentle creature for the most part, though she could be an insolent little brat if provoked. Some instinct whispered to her in a gentle hush that this male might prove to be a bad influence in that regard.

When the coywolf checked himself out in the reflection of the river, she’d half expected another cocky grin to cross his muzzle. Instead, he began an attempt to control the crazed mess of his pelt. A short yip of laughter bubbled from her when a particular chunk of fur continued to stand straight up on his head no matter how hard he try to flatten it. She ceased her laughter at his question, though, eyes then shining with a gleam of anticipation.

“I’d like to see it again, yes,” she said, then in a hushed tone, feeling almost embarrassed that she didn’t already know how. “And after…maybe you could help me do it?”

Cerberus was pleased – and almost surprised – at the way this fae reacted to his gestures. She didn’t flinch away, she didn’t scoff or scold, and she didn’t poke fun. Instead, she played right along and even seemed to ask for more. Puffing up even further, Ceri allowed his smile to broaden as he looked back to the river. Of course he’d put on a show for her, and of course he’d teach her how to do the same. And this was why he was surprised, for it was almost too easy, as if this girl were reading his mind. But he was too foolish to care, too happy with the way things were going already. Instead, he nudged against her playfully and then trotted back over to the water, every movement as precise and as masculine as if he’d practiced them his whole life. And perhaps he had; this wasn’t the first time he’d fraternized with a pretty girl beside the riverbank. This would, however, perhaps be the first time he’d look at this girl as a student rather than another conquest.

Perching by the water’s edge, Cerberus stared into the shimmering body with a scrutinizing eye as his tail swished back and forth behind him. The water was still; at least it was still so far. It seemed as though he’d scared off the other fish with the pursuit of the first, and for a moment he felt himself panic at the thought that this fae would grow bored and trot away, never to be seen again. He couldn’t fail her like that; it was his duty, now, to catch a fish for this girl.

Finally, as if in answer to his silent prayers, a decent-sized bass floated their way, and Cerberus quickly but quietly gestured for the girl to come stand beside him. Be very quiet, he whispered, watching the fish again. And then…you pounce! Leaping into the water, Cerberus clamped onto the fish with ready jaws and killed it quickly, finally turning to the she-wolf with his trophy. Dropping the bass at her feet, Ceri gave himself another good shake, sending his fur splaying outward in an explosion of mess as he proudly awaited her judgement.

OOC: Poor, mortified Ciara. xD

Well now she was just as sopping wet as the male.

After the playful nudge to her side and an almost shy nip to his flank in return, Ciara had watched him with fascination. It seemed like he was more than happy to teach her the ways of fishing, and she found herself undeniably attracted to the natural confidence the male exuded. Cerberus seemed even more suave and intelligent than Augustus, the Epsilon of New Dawn who had been a brief crush of Ciara’s, and her first crush at that. The snowy pack brother had undoubtedly seen her as an over-sized whelp, and besides, he already had the scent of another female lingering on him.

Ceri had the scent of multiple females on him, but somehow that was better to the mottled yearling than a singular one. She realized, soon, that she was daydreaming again and not paying full attention to the coywolf’s instruction. It seemed as though he was busy waiting for a fish to arrive, though, so the slender female relaxed a little, moving over to him when called. Flecked eyes watched his every movement and caught sight of the fish seconds before Ceri’s instruction, and leaping dive.

She was amazed when he came out of the water with a glorious looking bass in his mouth. Amazement turned into flattered shock when he dropped the fish at her feet. She was about to say that it was his fish, so she couldn’t possibly take it, when the coywolf shook his pelt out and sent a spray of droplets from the river, effectively coating the girl. She snuffed out of her nose, and stepped over the fish first to bump his shoulder with her nose. “You got me soaked!” she cried out, laughing soon after. When those peals of laughter fell silent, Ciara glanced down to the fish at her feet and paused, flicking a pink tongue over her black lips.

“Watch over this for me, for a second?” she asked, moving towards the riverbank with determination in her young eyes. She wanted to catch a fish for him, too, always wanting to prove herself to someone. With this new friend, she felt even more of a drive to make herself look strong and efficient in front of him. So she sat at the riverbank, poised and ready for a fish. When she caught sight of a slightly smaller cousin of the doomed fish on the bank, she watched its movements and then lunged. Glory! Success! Holy amount of water up the nose!

Ciara managed to grab the fish in her jaws, but while attempting to climb gracefully out of the river to hand the fish to the coywolf, her hind leg slipped. The mottled female fell to the riverbank with a surprised yelp, sending the still live fish flapping and wiggling its slimy way right to the paws of the male watching her. Sopping wet, with a slightly bruised ego, Ciara emerged from the river fully this time with all paws making contact with the riverbank.

She shook out her pelt, sending an array of droplets showering all over the little area that had served as their classroom, and all over their meal as well. With ears pinned back in embarrassment, she moved over to where the fish was wriggling at the male’s feet and put a paw on it.

“He’s uhm…he’s yours if you want him,” she said, shy all over again because of her rather unceremonious return from the river.

It would have been a lie if Ceri had said he didn’t already think this girl was completely and undeniably adorable. The way she responded to his actions with shy touches, the way she almost batted her lashes in innocence whenever she looked at him; it was almost too much for the coywolf to bear! But bear it he must, for this girl had rapidly climbed to the top of his list of interests, and without even trying very hard. As his tail wagged contentedly behind him, Cerberus watched the girl shake off her fur and poke his shoulder with her nose before playfully scolding him. He chuckled then, the sound soft yet sweet as he offered a light wink before she trotted off to the water’s edge. His attention was fully on her now, and it wasn’t bound to go anywhere else soon.

Her stalk and attack was executed quickly, and his eyes didn’t neglect to widen as she emerged from the splashing waters with a fish between her teeth. But shock soon gave way to pure amusement as she stumbled and then finally tugged herself out of the water, and Ceri ground his thick claws into the neck of the fish to cease its flopping before he stretched forward to give the girl’s head a reassuring lick. That was very good, he praised. There may be hope for you yet. With a bright laugh, Cerberus looked down at the fish she’d caught for him and then snatched it up in his jaws, nearly slurping down the kill before turning back to the girl. It was then that he noticed how truly unmarred her youthful flesh was, and he memorized her appearance with the careful raise of a brow. Though she was young, she certainly couldn’t be less than a year old, as she carried herself with the air of a maturing woman. This greatly increased the likelihood that he would stick around long enough to see what this girl was all about…as if he hadn’t planned on doing that anyway.

Licking his lips clean once again, Cerberus waited for the she-wolf to finish her own fish before nestling down on his haunches beside her. Now, he said, the sway of his tail increasing to a fervent wag, it’s time for your next lesson: swimming. With a wicked grin, Cerberus nudged his head into the girl’s slender body, aiming to knock her back into the water. Leaping to his feet, he readied himself to dive in after her…that is, if his attack had been successful. He was too excited to clearly pay attention.

((OOC: Giving up on the table for now. It hates me. Sad Also, last post for tonight! Bedtime. <3 WC: 500+))

Ciara felt a peculiar warmth spreading within her as the male happily scarfed down her fish. She'd done it, she had proven that she could fish! Sure, the bass he'd caught her was far larger, but she thought it was pretty damned good for a first try. The female appreciated the fact that he kept his laughter to himself when she fell, allowing her to maintain the illusion that she was far more graceful and ladylike than she'd seemed mere seconds ago.

With a stretch and another short shake of her pelt, Ciara lowered her head and began to eat the fish. While she picked at it a little more delicately than the coywolf's scarfing, it was still gone in seconds, and the girl licked her lips with satisfaction. That was good...she said, tongue curling up to flick over the tip of her own nose for a second. When Ceri's tongue came down over the damp fur of her head, Ciara felt her eyes widen, one ear twitching shyly at the affection.

Truthfully, she hadn't spent a whole lot of time around males. The entire first year of her life had been spent travelling alone, with no company and no one to guide her. Her mother had died after they'd crossed the ice-covered ocean, leaving a pup scarcely a year old to find her own way. Ciara had managed to grit her fangs and survive it, though she remarkably kept that air of softness and innocence about her which should rightly have chipped away during the months alone.

Now she was faced with this large coywolf, giving her his undivided attention. The glances that came from those mismatched eyes felt piercing, but in a warm and somewhat appreciative way to the young wolfess. She wasn't afraid of him, merely a little bashful and shy, giving furtive glances towards him out of the corner of her eye every so often, and only making full eye contact when absolutely necessary. Still, her posture clearly wasn't one that showed fear or submission.

Her thoughts were concentrated purely on the man's behavior and whether or not she was acting the right way. She cursed herself still for falling in the river, but at least she'd amused him. He hadn't started to treat her like a child yet, and that was a clear difference from the other males she'd come across in New Dawn. Her earth-coloured eyes were slightly clouded as she allowed herself to look over his features, admiring his muscular build, and especially those eyes.

Ciara found herself so entranced that she didn't realize how close she was to the riverbank, and didn't register what he'd said until his nose was already pressing into her side. With a yelp of surprise, the girl found herself rolling back-first into the river. She rolled over instantly in the water, paddling with her paws in front of her and shaking her head to clear the fluid out of her ears. She was just about to yell at him to get in there with her lest she pulled him in, when she realized that she didn't even know his name.

Cerberus yipped proudly once he’d noticed his attempt had been successful, and then almost immediately he leapt in after her, disturbing the water with a terrible splash. Any nearby fish frittered away, and Cerberus found himself soaked once again. With a near-violent jerk of his head, his sopping mess of fur flew up in a way that almost looked like a styled Mohawk. This time, however, he didn’t bother to smooth it out, for he knew another dip under the water’s glassy surface would take care of it.

Luckily, the she-wolf didn’t seem upset at his trickery, and this encouraged him to splash her gently before doggie-paddling circles around her, his tail acting like a rudder as it helped propel him through the water. The swimming hole was downright frigid, now that he’d taken the time to notice; their ‘swimming lesson’ certainly wouldn’t last very long.

With a final circling, Cerberus paddled up to the girl and slipped a quick lick beneath her jaw before maneuvering back to the shore. He shook his fur once again as he climbed out, and then gave his lean body a good head-to-toe stretch before whirling around to survey the she-wolf again. His tail continued to sway behind him, and suddenly he felt the need to learn more about this wolf, to grow closer to her. But first, he had to get her out of the water. Are you alright? he asked, slow steps taking him back to the river’s edge again. Do you need any help? With this question, Cerberus realized that pushing her into the frigid water in the first place was probably not the nicest thing to do, and so he stretched his neck out over the bank in case she needed something to hold on to.

OOC:: Shiny new table! Big Grin WC: 620

In Character

Ciara let out a thrilled laugh when the coywolf jumped in after her, turning her head to the side and flattening her ears back in case he left some small tsunami in his wake. When he was safely in the water, and swimming in a loose circle around her, Ciara tipped her head out to nip playfully at his side. When he splashed, she crashed one large paw down over the surface of the water to bring a mini-splash his way. It was nowhere near as effective as the male’s, but it served to flatten the comical hairstyle he was sporting.

She didn’t mind the cold at all. Growing up on the coast of Newfoundland, she’d grown used to frigid temperatures at a young age. Her mother often found her down at the shore, swimming in the direction of a far off iceberg. Her mother would call out frantically, yelp and howl after her, until Ciara resigned herself to returning and spending the day stuck in the den with her fur being furiously cleaned. This river water, while cold, was nothing compared to what she’d been in before.

Already being a skilled swimmer, Ciara moved through the water gracefully. She was quick, too, so when her companion began to swim for the shore she paddled after him, straining her neck to see if she could catch the sopping tip of his tail between her jaws. Unfortunately, Ceri was able to crawl up on the riverbank before she could catch him, and had turned around to offer help by the time Ciara was at the edge.

With a little smile, and a shake of her head, Ciara pulled herself up. She dug her front claws into the muddy back and hoisted until her slender body was safely on the bank. “Thanks, but I got it,” she grinned, standing there in all her soaking glory for a moment. The chill winter air struck her, but even wet her coat still served to protect her from the cold. With her fur sleeked over her body, the male would be able to see that while she was young, she already had a very athletic build, lithe, with no distinguished scars, marks, or missing parts.

With a great, full-bodied shake that started at the tip of her nose and went right to the tip of her tail, the yearling rid herself of the water in one go. Now it was her own coat that stuck up all over the place, and she figured the best way to smooth it down was to move over to the male in a moment of courage and rub up against one side, and then the other. The effort succeeded, and she was then brave enough to return the playful lick he’d given her while in the water. Hers was carefully placed along the curve where jaw met neck, and she lingered a moment to nudge the space afterwards with her nose, before sitting back on her haunches on the partially snow-covered ground.

The golden flecks in her eyes were highlighted by the weak winter sun while she looked over at him, not nearly as shy as she’d been before he’d shoved her in the water. Play relaxed the girl, letting her playful and affectionate side come through. She sat close to him, moving to lean her own, smaller form against his side in a guise of needed warmth. “That was fun,” she said, a playful smirk on her muzzle. “So…what’s your name?”

She felt silly asking after they’d already spent the morning together, but she also knew that she needed to know it if she wanted to spend time with him again. And she did.

The she-wolf seemed to be doing just fine in the water, and suddenly he felt rather sheepish for retreating so early. But he always preferred warmer weather anyway, for everything seemed much more comfortable then. You could lie in the grass without rising sopping wet, you could nap under a tree without fear of catching cold, and you could certainly swim in a river without freezing to the bone. But she seemed to prefer the cold, and that was fine with him. It was admirable even. He knew well enough that if she wanted to be closer, she’d pretend to be cold in order to steal some of his body heat. And lo and behold, that’s what she did. Climbing out of the river with ease, the she-wolf brushed right up against him and stayed there, drying her own fur on his. He didn’t bother to smother the frantic wagging of his tail as he stood there, especially not when she offered a lingering lick to his jaw. Quickly he turned his head to the girl, a smile creeping upon his lips, and he nuzzled her forehead. Then she sat beside him, and it didn’t take a second thought to persuade him to sit beside her as well. As much as he would deny it, this girl had him wrapped around her little paw.

The fae then asked him for his name, and he paused a moment to reaffirm to himself that this was not a girl he’d need to lie to in order to keep her from finding him later. No, he absolutely WANTED to see this girl again, and so he’d give her his real name: ”It’s Cerberus.” Then, with a playful mouthing of her ear, he added, ”And what’s yours, pretty thing?”

Even though his fur was thin, there was still enough of it to shield the soft blush that touched his cheeks now. What was going on? He never acted this…this GOOEY around a female before. And even if this female was different, they still hadn’t been together for longer than an hour; what had changed? Eyes swiveling forward and then back to the female, Cerberus smiled coyly in order to shake off his feelings of twitterpation. He wasn’t going to let her see how she affected him.

Ciara didn’t bother hide a smile as the male’s frantically wagging tail brushed behind her. She found herself especially glad that he was happy with her being so close. When he nudged his nose to her forehead, she managed not to cross her eyes and try to look up at him, which had been a first impulse. Instead, she rubbed her head beneath his chin and kept it there, poking her nose through the fur across his neck and chest, gathering his scent to her.

“Cerberus, then,” she said, grinning against the boycoy’s fur. “That’s quite the mouthful.” Her voice was a gentle chide as she leaned into him, hoping he didn’t mind her wet fur on his. When he called her pretty, she was once again thankful for her thick coat. Her ears did their odd twitching habit, perhaps the only sign that she was flattered by the compliment. Well, the only sign besides the shy tilt to her voice.

“My name is Ciara,” came her reply. “Are you in a pack?” She hadn’t found a pack-scent on him, and she knew that she wanted to know more about this male. The way he accepted all her shy attempts at affection made her feel comfortable, and while he did have the tendency to puff himself up and show off, he wasn’t cocky or pompous in an irritating way. It was more endearing, all the different ways he managed to make her blush or render her silent.

The she-wolf slipped her head beneath Ceri’s, and suddenly his coy grin became more warm. He tucked his arm around her in a sort of canine embrace, finally resting his chin on her soft crown. His tail swayed calmly behind him, and he took in her scent as well as he sat still and quiet. A bird chirped somewhere in the distance, and the sun peeked out from behind the clouds long enough to warm the tips of Ceri’s ears. The gentle sound of the fae’s breathing nearly lulled him to sleep. Life was good.

She mentioned his name was a ‘mouthful’ then, and he chuckled softly. Of course it was; he didn’t often have others call him by his full name. ”You can call me Ceri,” he said, offering her ear a playful lick. She revealed her name then, and his brows rose ever so slightly. ”Ciara,” he repeated, the word slipping slowly from his tongue as if he were tasting every syllable. ”That’s beautiful.” And indeed it was; it felt nice just to say it. But perhaps it was due in large part to the fact that now he could call her something other than ‘girl.’ Now he felt that much closer to her.

Her next question caught him a bit off guard. He’d never been in a pack, and he didn’t even know – though he assumed – that there were packs around here. New Dawn didn’t sound familiar, but in an odd way it fit Ciara…Ciara of New Dawn. One ear swiveled back halfway as he chose his words carefully, finally responding, ”I don’t belong to a pack, no. I’m simply a wanderer.”

OOC:: Happy Valentine's Day! These guys are adorable. Lemme know if you hate "boycoy" btw. >.>; WC: 470

In Character

Ciara was perfectly content, sitting with the boycoy as the sun peeked through the clouds and served to warm them both. Her pelt was beginning to dry, regaining its former sheen and softness, and she could feel the same happening with the male who’d wrapped himself around her. While Ceri’s coat was a little coarser while hers was soft, she still found that she enjoyed tucking her nose into it. A small chuff left her, a sound of relaxation and happiness. Her black nose twitched a bit when one of the aforementioned guard hairs tickled across its surface, and she turned her head just in time to avoid hitting him with her sneeze. It was a tiny sound, a bit of a squeak accompanied by a snuff from her nose.

“Ceri,” she repeated after she’d recovered from the episode. She then nodded her head a little, before going still to allow that playful lick to fold across her velvety ear. When he repeated her own name, she felt inwardly pleased at his liking of it, so instead of moving her head back to tuck shyly beneath his chin, she raised it instead. Gently, and having to lean up on her paws a little to do so, the mottled female took the coywolf’s own ear into her mouth and gave it a gentle, playful tug. When the other ear swivelled she let go, bumping her nose to his shoulder when he mentioned being alone.

“I was on my own for the past year,” she revealed softly, turning her brown and golden hues to look into his mismatched ones. “It’s nice for a little while, but I’m really enjoying being in a pack so far.” Her muzzle broke into a warm smile as she thought of her pack mates, already family to her even though she hadn’t known them long. There was her Alpha, Zalen in all of his black-pelted authority, and his beautiful mate Titania whom Ciara had yet to meet. Noah the Omega was one of her favourites, for the silver male was gentle and soft-hearted, the exact opposite of the alabaster Shandom who seemed quick to temper, even though he could be nice as well. Soran, the ebony Beta had already become a sort of mother figure to her and the large pure wolf, Augustus, was her Epsilon and teacher. She realized that she was leaning into the male again, having lost herself in her daydream for a moment, and blushed for the umpteenth time that day.

Casually, she laid down beside the coywolf, turning to bump his haunch with her nose in an invitation to lie down as well. The ground beneath them was a rare patch of dry, albeit brown grass and it had been warmed in the weak persistence of the sun.

“Have you ever thought of joining a pack?”

Word Count → 504 :: Haha nooo when I read it the first time I went ‘aww’. It’s clever.

Ciara was a curious thing, and a thing that Cerberus liked quite a lot. She was soft and gentle in every sense of her being, but not so soft that she was fragile. Her admittance to being alone most of her life proved well enough that she was capable of holding her own, and at such a young age, that was admirable. His mother had been the same way, abandoned as a pup and forced to live on her own. It wasn’t until she met Cerberus’ father that she finally had company to speak of. And she had grown to be a wonderful mother, brave and tough while still loving and sweet. But she failed to see the suffering of her own son, and that greatly hindered the relationship between her and Ceri. Ciara seemed sweet enough, but it would be a make-or-break factor to find if she could pay attention or not. So far, she seemed to be doing fine. But it did worry Cerberus a bit when he noticed she was spacing off.

The actions that followed her little daze, however, made Cerberus nearly forget his worries altogether. The primal side of him desired to be infinitely closer to her simply because she was a beautiful, affectionate girl. But the sensible side of him felt his heart dance into his throat at her snuggling, let alone her little sneeze. She was simply adorable, a creature whose very touch sent his nerves vibrating. Lowering down beside her, Cerberus pushed the whole of his face into her soft neck with a happy coo, and then finally laid his head on her paws instead of his own. His tail flopped happily behind him still, and he kept his mismatched eyes on the girl to ensure that this wasn’t a dream he’d soon wake up from. He was acting like a love-struck pup…and he was entirely okay with it now.

Though it seemed foolish, Cerberus hoped for a moment that when Ciara asked if he’d ever thought of joining a pack, that she might be asking him to join hers. Snapping back to reality, he shrugged his cream-colored shoulders and nipped a spot just above her breast. ”I’ve thought about it,” he admitted, ”but I wouldn’t know where to go. I’m not sure where the packs are around here, let alone if they’d be willing to accept a scoundrel like me.” He chuckled softly, portraying to Ciara that he didn’t really think as little of himself as he sometimes led others to believe. But it was true; he’d never been a pack animal in his life, and his parents rarely talked about them. He feared making a fool of himself if he ever went calling at any territorial borders, even though part of him knew instinct would take over. Still, it didn’t change the fact that he enjoyed being wild and free too. But as he looked at Ciara again, he wondered if perhaps this girl might be the first to change his mind about that.

OOC:: Happy Cia is happy. WC: 600

Ciara let out a soft laugh at the coywolf’s cooing noise, nuzzling at the top of his head and licking his pointed ears when he pushed his face to her neck. When he rested his head on her paws, she set to pushing her nose through the fur atop the male’s head, before once again taking an ear in her mouth. She hadn’t received any reaction for her first little play bite, so she tried again, licking a bit at the front of his ear afterwards.

The beat of the yearling’s multi-coloured tail matched that of Ceri’s, wagging in perfect, yet lazy unison. When he mentioned never being a part of a pack before, a little flare of excitement filled her. Perhaps she could draw him towards choosing New Dawn? If he didn’t want to be a part of the pack then that was fine too, it’s wouldn’t deter her, except… A little frown creased her features. She knew that it was far, far too early to be thinking of such things, but she couldn’t help it. As a pack member, whoever she chose as a mate would have to be a member as well. It wasn’t allowed to have mates outside of the pack, or at the very least it was discouraged. She felt happy around the slightly eccentric boycoy, and would have the chance at anything further to be ruined because he wasn’t a member of New Dawn.

She decided then to try and convince him. It wouldn’t take any means of manipulation, not that Ciara was capable of such a thing anyway. New Dawn was a genuinely good pack, with well thought-out morals and ideals, and dedicated members. It was new, yes, and it was a learning process for all the wolves involved, but in its infancy it still managed to provide a wonderful home for the wolves that called the pack family. Ciara thought that Ceri would be able to find happiness there. Even if he came to find her unsuitable as a mate for some reason, there were other females there as well.

“Well, New Dawn is a little north of here, up by the Northern tides. It has a good-sized territory with lots of space to roam and the wolves are free to explore other areas as they please. We value our natural forms,” she said, wondering if the male ever shifted into Optime form. She could tell by his scent that he was Luperci. She had never taken it upon herself to make a habit of shifting, and had only done so twice in her year and a half. “The leadership is really great, and there’s lots of opportunities to increase your rank, and lots of stuff to do in the pack.” The yearling hoped that she wasn’t babbling on, because while she was excited to be talking of her pack she still wanted her new companion to consider it seriously.

With a soft lick across Ceri’s snout, Ciara gave a small wiggle of movement. It was a show of excitement, for her tail was wagging vigorously behind her. “I can show you were the pack borders are, if you want,” she said, glancing at him. “The pack is wolf-centered, and there’s a bit of…distrust towards coyotes, but I can tell that you’re wolf too.” She felt a little uneasy as she confided this fact to him, worried that he’d decide against joining her in New Dawn. The yearling didn’t hold the same strong feelings against coyotes as some of her pack mates did, but she still didn’t trust the other canines completely.

Cerberus had been so busy fantasizing about being pack mates with Ciara that he hadn’t noticed the first bite to his ear, but the lick that followed the second one jarred him out of his dream world and made him snort happily. With a brief wiggle of his head, Cerberus emitted a playful growl before nibbling on the fae’s neck, his teeth hardly grazing her soft flesh. Then, as if he’d pushed some sort of button, Ciara exploded in an explanation of her pack as if he were a tourist paying a visit, and he lifted his head to look at her with raised brows. Once she fell silent again, Cerberus let free a loud laugh, followed by a couple licks to the she-wolf’s jowls. She was a curious thing indeed, and she kept getting more and more curious.

”How do you do that?” he blurted, not realizing that he was facing potential embarrassment by revealing his thoughts. ”How do you seem to know exactly what I’m thinking?” It was true that things like ‘valuing true form’ and a distaste for coyotes worried Cerberus to the point of nearly dampening his mood, but it didn’t deter him completely from the desire to see her home. He did spend an awful lot of time in optime form because he found it quite convenient, and more capable of portraying his personality. But he could learn to like his lupus form again, for his father had taught him to survive in it alone.

Another flurry of affection came his way then, and Cerberus returned her lick promptly with one of his own across her forehead. If Ciara wasn’t careful, she’d find herself with a heap of coywolf on top of her, licking and nipping and wagging his tail like a foolish child. But she seemed worried too, and he felt the need to clarify a few things before any more affection ensued: ”Those stipulations don’t sound too difficult to adapt to. And I’m only a small part coyote, even though my attitude might suggest more.” He chuckled again, pawing at Ciara as he glanced back at her wagging tail. Her body wiggled cutely as a result of the motion, and, being overwhelmed by her endearing qualities, Cerberus rolled over onto his back and whined happily as his tongue lolled out of his mouth. Eventually he turned back onto his belly and heaved his whole body into Ciara’s, yipping foolishly. He then leapt to his feet and shook his fur out, glancing around as his tail flopped around behind him. Suddenly his brow raised, and his head slowly turned back to Ciara. ”So…are you a luperci then?” he asked, realizing he was changing the subject, but he had to know nonetheless. A whole new curiosity washed over him, and suddenly he had to scold himself to avoid daydreaming about a curvy, two-legged Ciara batting her lashes and rolling around in the grass beneath him. Sometimes his testosterone made him feel like a pig...and sometimes he was just fine with it.

Ciara couldn’t help but laugh at the man’s snorting reaction to her lick. It made her want to do it again, and perhaps even nip him just to see his reaction. Slowly, the yearling was getting used to all this flirting, and becoming more comfortable and courageous when it came to it. At least, she was brave until the coywolf began his attentions to her neck. That threw her completely off guard, enough that a shiver swept through her body and she made a soft noise of surprise before she could stop it. Her ears twitched again, skin turning red beneath her fur.

Her mouth parted lightly at the persuasion of his licking, and she was about to close her teeth over his snout in an affectionate gesture until his questioning came. Her eyebrows raised, and her tail wagged behind her as she found herself very pleased that she’d apparently been reading his mind. “I…don’t really know, Ceri,” she said, grinning sheepishly. “You and I just share a brain wave I guess.” Her earth-coloured hues twinkled, and she gave a playful bump to his side before her companion started moving around again.

The mottled subordinate was obviously relieved when Ceri briefly explained his origins. That meant he could join the pack! She would be able to sleep in a den with him, travel the pack lands with him and even go on hunts. Her tail thumped happily against the ground, sending her slender frame into another fit of wiggling. When the male rolled on his back, she took the chance to quickly dart forward and nip his belly just before he rolled over onto it. She tensed a little, fully expecting him to lunge at her, so she bent herself into a play bow, prepared. Her rear end swung in the air with the quick motions of her tail, and her head dipped to hang close to her flattened paws.

“I am Luperci,” she said, her voice showing a hint of pride at that fact. “I’ve only ever shifted out of this form twice, though…it’s my favourite.” She grinned, pink tongue lashing out to lick across her lips as she maintained her play posture. She was ready to lead the male to New Dawn now, but couldn’t resist the thought of having him to herself for a little while longer. She had no inkling of the boycoy’s lecherous thoughts, but that didn’t mean she was innocent of the same daydreams.

Word Count → 416 :: This is what happens when Ceri gets hyper…oh boy XD

Every bit of affection leading to the move to his feet made Cerberus feel as though he were about to explode. His blood ran hot through his thin body, and he couldn’t seem to hold still as he bounced around from paw to paw. Mimicking her playful stance, Cerberus struggled to keep himself from pouncing on Ciara as his mismatched eyes met hers. They were soft, but rich and bright; so inviting that he felt a swallow catch in his throat as his daydreams persisted. Shaking his head clear, Ceri gave his body a quick stretch before standing upright again and looking her over. Finally he asked, ”Can I see your optime form?” Of course he would show her his in return, but only if she agreed. He didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable.

Neglecting to wait for her response, Cerberus dove toward Ciara and barreled into the female, attempting to knock her onto her back. His tongue attacked her face and neck again, a frantic motion aimed at reciprocating all of her past affection. His nose sought her belly then, pushing through the soft fur until finally it reached her hips and tugged away. Spinning around in a bouncy circle, Cerberus yipped happily again, giving in to his pup-like instincts and eventually chasing his tail until he came staggering toward Ciara once again. He was nearly drunk with happiness, not even entirely sure why he was acting the way he was. But he didn’t care – he felt so good he thought he could fly! And then he crashed, falling in a dizzy heap at the she-wolf’s feet as the world around him slowly stopped spinning. He felt like a fool…and yet he felt like a god. But he STILL didn’t care. This was the happiest he’d been since his brother had been alive, and he was going to savor every minute of it. For he knew all too well that, once the sun went down, Ciara would have to return to her pack and he’d be left alone with nothing but the grass and trees for company. He didn’t want her to go, and the mere thought sent him nuzzling up against her once more with a soft whimper on his lips. No, he couldn’t act like this. He was the man here! He had to show her he was strong! Straightening up like nothing had happened, Cerberus stared at his playmate blankly in hopes that she’d say something to break his demented reverie.

In Character

Staring at the male, Ciara wondered if some secret feminine scent had made him go crazy. Her first ever heat was still a month away, so she didn’t think it could be that. The girl certainly hadn’t expected that much of a reaction from her play bow, but she was definitely thrilled. When he barrelled into her, she let loose a yip of laughter as she collapsed into the snow on her back. Ceri’s nose pushing through her fur made her yip and squirm, tickling her right until he moved to her slender hip, the dip right where her lithe stomach curved inwards to show the good shape she was in. That made her blush, his nose moving that far down, and her ears swivelled forward to see what he was going to do next.

He pulled away, and the yearling couldn’t tell if she was relieved or disappointed. A strange tingling sensation had filled her when he tipped her over, some ghost of a primal instinct that thrilled at this male holding a sort of dominant pose over her. She had opened her snout to respond to his question, shyly willing to show him her Optime form, when the coywolf went nuts again! When he chased his tail around like a pup Ciara collapsed into the snow on her own accord, covering her snout with her paws and shaking with laughter. This male never ceased to surprise her in the short afternoon they’d known each other, and she was enjoying his company more and more.

She thought she saw a sort of mysterious gleam in his eyes as he looked her over, as though he were remembering something from the past, and she lifted her head and sat up. Velvety, black-rimmed ears twitched in concern before the coyboy made his way over to her again. Her heart melted at his whimper, and she went to return his nuzzling with an affectionate lick when he pulled away AGAIN. She let out an indignant huff, having wanted to give Ceri that affection. With those mismatched, blazing eyes looking at her, she cocked her head to the side, wondering what it was he was thinking.

The mixture of loving companion and boasting male kept switching back and forth, until she began to wonder if he had multiple personalities. Ciara didn’t care either way, something told her that she’d never be rid of this man, and she was happy for the security of that feeling. She didn’t want to be separate from him, and was fully intent on bringing him back to New Dawn. For now, though, she had to answer his question and end his seeming embarrassment from his hyperactive display of affection.

“I will show you my Optime form, but…you can’t laugh,” she said, feeling self conscious of it. The mottled female always felt unsure of the form she was rarely in, so she even closed her eyes while she was shifting. There were a few cracks and snaps as her bones morphed, elongated and changed. She’d shifted so little that it was still a bit frightening for her, so a whimper left her lips in the midst of her change. Eventually though, Ciara was standing on two legs instead of four.

Ciara’s hind legs had changed into shapely, feminine structures of strength and agility. Her forelegs morphed into humanoid arms, muscular and yet slender all at once. Her hips, taking on a more human quality as well, were slightly rounded and feminine, flaring out from a very slender waist. The fur around her scruff elongated until it was long and sat just on her shoulders, a shimmering mixture of tawny, black and white. Her colouring was much the same, with the tan on her snout and around her eyes, black on her forehead and streaking down her back to the tip of her tail, as well as rimming her ears. The coal colouring was interrupted here and there by calico-patterned splotches of tan and an underlay of white. That same white, pure and unmarred, covered her chest, belly, and the insides of her thighs.

The girl stood unsteadily at a height of about 5’8”, and lifted a morphed hand with slender fingers to brush a strand of hair back and around her velvety ear. She then brought her arms to cross loosely over her flat abdomen, making a sound much like a clearing of her throat as her earth-coloured gaze went to the floor. All her shyness that had once disappeared was back again as she revealed this form to him, feeling unsure of herself and not used to standing on two paws. Her pink tongue darted out, nervously licking at her lips and flicking up to wet her nose. She kept silent, waiting for Ceri to make some kind of comment, or worse, laugh at her.
