Word Count → 309 :: Back-dated to Feb. 12, North-Western edge of the Dampwoods

It often surprised Cerberus how little there really was to eat in the wintertime, no matter how often he’d hunted in it. The snow seemed to shield any and all prey, taunting every predator that dared hunt. But Cerberus was hungry enough to overlook that taunting, even if it meant settling for a rabbit or mink. And of course, just as he thought so, there it was: a tiny white rabbit frittering about in the crunchy snow. Lowering until he was nearly flat against the ground, Cerberus watched the unsuspecting creature, licking his lips as he noted the way the rabbit’s muscled moved beneath its soft fur.

It seemed as though hours of silence passed before Cerberus finally leapt from his hiding place to give chase. The rabbit tore off in a random direction, struggling to locate its burrow as the large wolf slowly closed the distance between them. Snatching the tiny thing up in his teeth, Ceri killed it with a quick snap of his jaws and then nestled down on the ground to finish it off. Normally he would have picked only the finest pieces of meat from the carcass, but today his level of hunger was such that every bit of flesh looked like a delicacy. His tail swayed happily behind him, each bite taken quiet and careful. His orange and gold eyes glanced about every now and then, watching for anyone who might threaten to take his kill. But, luckily, he finished his meal in peace, finally stretching his paw upward to lick it clean. The other paw followed, and finally he found himself bathing his entire body, his tongue preening his white and tan fur much like a cat would. Once he had finished, he gave his lithe body a good stretch, and then curled up once more to nap in the afternoon sun.

OOC-Sorry it took a while WordCount-313

Milk colored paws lightly brushed the pure white snow, and it crunched crisply beneath their delicate touch. These small petite paws were enough to fit in the old humans' teacup and were elegantly attached to a set of slender legs white enough to rival the snow itself. Eyes the color of an approaching storm were set into a face that appeared carved by angels themselves. This wolf had the curves and body of a beautiful female, yet something was amiss. Despite the appearance of the exoteric body, there was something wrong, terribly wrong. It became apparent as one grew close enough to hear the wolf's choking, gasping, wheezing breaths. To look into those bloodshot eyes was to glimpse at the pain that this poor creature must feel. Its ribs could just barely be seen from beneath the thick white pelt. Although no exterior injuries could be seen, the poor wolf's lungs were burnt to the point were it hurt to walk for long distances, let alone run or hunt. Oh, and to make this sight just a little sadder, that graceful, beautiful beast was in fact, not a female, but a young boy cursed to a woman's figure.

Despite all of these setbacks, Dhiate still had the will to look proud, and disgusted. He didn't pity himself, he loathed himself for having dropped so low as to follow another wolf's scent in hopes to scavenge from their last meal. He was a wolf, not a crow! He didn't ask why fate had been cruel to him, he simply detested himself for not being stronger. So when he came across the sleeping wolf, instead of waking him up politely, or sneaking past, as one would expect of such a pityable thing, Dhiate decided to stroll along not an inch from the other's sleeping body. Who cared if somebody didn't have a decent night's sleep?

Word Count → 221 :: No problem at all! That was a beautiful post!

His nap had been too shallow to produce dreams, and yet too deep to out rightly allow notice of the approach of the tattered male. He thought that perhaps, somewhere in the back of his mind, he could feel the steps of another vibrate across the ground near his head, but it didn’t register well enough to cause him to stir. Finally, however, he did wake, as the smell of hunger and bitterness grabbed a hold of his dazed mind at shook it conscious. Eyelids fluttering open, Cerberus located the stranger with his bi-colored eyes; the fiery hues honed in on him with utmost admiration. He was beautiful, and for a moment Ceri wondered if he really was a male. But the scent emitted from this creature wasn’t quite delicate enough to prove feminine, and this suited him just fine. He wasn’t biased when it came to the sexes.

With a swoosh of his fluffy tail, Cerberus rolled onto his belly and looked over the male once again, noting the way in which he sought out food. If need be, Ceri could hunt for the poor fellow and put him out of his misery. But for now, he’d simply stay put. Good morning sir, he said with a note of mock formality, have you come to join me in my slumber?

OOC-Thanks. WordCount-289

One dark brown eyebrow lifted. Sleep? He had given that up long ago. The gray blue eyes were bitter as he looked into the contrasting golden red hues. They were very different creatures. The male before him was obviously not all wolf, and just as obviously male. His coat had the luster of a healthy creature and not a rib showed. Dhiate's eyes glimmered almost jealously. How could he be so healthy while Dhiate struggled to even breathe?

Dhiate's lips formed the words, "No, although sleep wouldn't be unwelcome." No doubt his lips didn't quite convey the message so he tried something he had learned when testing out his vocal chords a couple of days ago. He breathed outwardly like he similarly would when talking, and his rasping did the talking for him. It didn't hurt and worked almost as effectively as actually speaking, although it did tickle. And that set off a fit of coughing that almost covered his stomach's weak protests. Almost.

Dhiate's red rimmed eyes widened in embarrassment and shock at his abdomen's treachery. He had thought that it had long ago ceased it's cries, but apparently he'd been wrong. Dark tipped ears flicked back and his fluffy tail wrapped around him as if he were trying to hide behind it. His narrow chest rose and fell in ragged breaths as he groomed away a noexistant smudge on his flawless coat of creamy white, the color of aging paper. He looked up through dark lashes at the other male. Now that he got a good look, the guy wasn't too bad looking- what was he thinking? They were both guys, that was wrong right? He'd never understood the almost morbid fascination everyone else had in females.

The male – or at least Cerberus was pretty sure it was a male – seemed rather uncomfortable for more reasons than just being hungry. A sort of discontent flickered through his bright eyes, and his voice carried tones of exhaustion. After declining his jest, the poor thing erupted into a fit of coughs and Ceri’s brows pinched together with concern. Nudging himself to his feet, Cerberus slipped over to the canine and cocked his head to one side, trying to see behind the bushy tail that now concealed the delicate, snow-white face. With a quick sniff in the canine’s direction, Cerberus asked, ”Hey, are you okay? You don’t sound too good.”

Stretching his tawny snout forward, Cerberus attempted to nudge aside the male’s fluffy tail and then sat down in front of him. His own tail wagged calmly behind him, portraying to the stranger that he was in safe company and Cerberus would help him in any way he could. He didn’t know much when it came to health, but it didn’t take a genius to see this creature needed food first and foremost. Water might help too, judging by the way he coughed. And perhaps, just for good measure, this bloke could use some decent company. Mismatched eyes seeking to meet the cerulean hues of the other, Cerberus smiled charmingly and stood up, nudging his shoulder gently against the snow-white male’s. ”Come with me,” he offered, ”we should get you something to eat.”

OOC- Kinda short, sorry WordCount-185

Dhiate flicked his tail away annoyed. Why was he acting like this? Something must be wrong, yes that was it. It had to be... His smoky eyes flickered blue, then gray, back to blue again finally settling into something in the middle while rolling sarcastically. Yes, he was just peachy. He was really doing so fine out on his own, wasn't it obvious? It rubbed him the wrong way, being talked to like that. Yet it soothed something in him. He was being watched, being observed, being... noticed.

Dhiate wrapped his poofy tail around his dainty paws and looked into those unmatching eyes. His own stormy ones drifted down to the wagging tail and his pale lips smirked. He looked back up, then back at the tail. It almost made him want to laugh, but he knew better. He knew how much it would hurt. His dark tipped ears pricked forwards and an astonished look crept onto his face. This stranger was willing to help him? Why? Instead of voicing his confusion, the young male followed, never taking his eyes off of the strange canine.

The male followed Cerberus willingly – or perhaps hesitantly, he couldn’t tell – and the hybrid immediately dropped into search mode. Mismatched eyes bounced around, scanning the forest floor for movement. He wasn’t sure exactly what this wolf liked to eat, but Ceri was too focused on locating prey to take a moment to question the stranger about it. With his tail dropped stiffly by his ankles, Ceri’s snout flicked this way and that as it analyzed every scent that met it. And then, to his amusement, a large hare bounded from the cover of the shadows and disappeared through the thicket of trees. Cerberus then lowered his body with a flex of his lean muscles and tore after the creature. Once he was near enough to reach his prey, the boycoy snapped his jaws around its fragile neck and killed it, finally trotting back proudly to his waiting companion.

Cerberus dropped the kill on the ground in front of him, his tail wagging like a puppy waiting to be praised for fetching a stick. The hare smelled delicious, but this wolf needed the meal much more than Ceri did; he would willingly give up the entire kill. Moving to take a seat beside the snow-white wolf, Cerberus turned his snout to the male to steal a quick sniff of his scent before waiting for him to dive into his meal.

OOC- WordCount-336

Dhiate couldn't take his eyes off of this guy. They had never met, yet he was willing to help him. It amazed Dhiate to no end. In his pack, it was a wolf eat wolf world. If you couldn't provide your own meal, you died. You weren't worth living. So why wasn't he dead yet? It made no sense. What compelled this strange canine to do this?

Dhiate tried to be as light on his paws as possible, and no, he didn't make much noise. But there was something obviously off. Dhiate was growing tired, and growing clumsy. He could hardly keep his bloodshot eyes open. His breathing was getting slower, his creamy paws were stumbling. Then he jerked himself to the land of consciousness. The other male had left, had torn off. Dhiate stopped in his tracks and stared at where he had last seen his companion. Dhiate lowered his haunches to the ground, wrapping his plumy white and chocolate tail around his paws like a cat.

As his head began to sink to his chest, Dhiate's eyes snapped back open. The coywolf had returned! And he brought back a hare. Dhiate's fatigue vanished. His delicate ears pricked forwards and he sat riveted on the dead animal before him. The coywolf set the feast before Dhiate, and he didn't hesitate in lunging forward and ripping it open. His pure coat became stained with the blood of the other male's kill. Dhiate ate about half of it before his shrunken stomach threaten to spill. Dhiate could feel the other's fur brush against his before he felt the darkness take over. The stained one lay collapsed on the ground before the one who was his savior. His slight frame was delicate and vulnerable sprawled out on the ground, yet there was something new about him. In his sleep, all of Dhiate's worries vanished. The pain, the stress, the worry, none of it was terribly obvious when he was awake, but asleep... Dhiate was pure, angelic, and young.

Cerberus
Love me always

Cerberus smiled as he watched the wolf dive into his meal. It made him proud to see that his catch had been appreciated, especially by someone who needed it so desperately. With a flick of his mottled tail, Cerberus continued to watch the wolf until his meal was gone. Then the poor thing collapsed at his feet, and the coywolf thought for a moment that he’d done something wrong. Eyes wide with fear, Cerberus nuzzled up against the lad, nudging his face and licking his ears. Hey, he muttered, you alright mate? …Hey, you. Stealing another lick across the pristine bridge of his nose, Ceri curled his tail around his feet, listening to the beating of the wolf’s heart as he propped the canine’s chin up with his own snout.

Though he hardly knew this creature, he wasn’t so heartless as to leave him alone and vulnerable in the wilderness. Even if it took all afternoon, he’d wait until the poor creature woke up to make sure he was okay. He had no knowledge of medical things, so he simply hoped and prayed that everything was alright. Now and again he’d sneak a couple licks to the wolf’s nose and ears, perhaps even his neck and paws. But otherwise Cerberus stayed still and quiet. After enough time had passed, the boycoy finally prodded the other with his paw, a soft yet fervent whimper trickling from his pale lips. Everything seemed to be fine moments ago, despite the fact that the male had looked rather sleepy. Perhaps he had just collapsed from exhaustion? Nestling beside the wolf again, Cerberus began to nip at his soft ears until he achieved some sort of response. Panic was beginning to set in; he wasn’t about to lose someone else in his life.

OOC-Sorry my awful post is awful. WordCount- 300

Dhiate was in a world of darkness. There was no light. No smell. There was no warmth, but it wasn't cold. He was in a place where nothing reached him. It was like he was trapped in a vacuum. He didn't feel anything. Not until he felt something whack his head. Dhiate tried to move, but it was like trying to run in molasses. Slowly, things came back to him. He could hear a heartbeat, he could hear someone breathing next to him. He could hear the wind rustle leaves all around him. Then he could smell. He could smell blood, he could smell a male next to him. Yet it was still dark. He could feel the cold, hard ground beneath him and a warm body beside him. He could taste blood in his mouth. But there was no light. So Dhaite opened his eyes.

The first thing Dhaite saw was the other male. What had happened? Why was he on the ground, and why was the stranger wrapping his body around him? The last thing he could remember was... No! He had passed out! He had passed out in front of this stranger who had done so much for him. His eyes grew bluer, and wider. How could he have done such a thing? His dark ears laid back and his face became hidden beneath a two colored tail again. He was so embarrassed.

After about a minute of wallowing in self pity, Dhiate moved his tail, and looked out into the world. The coyote wolf mix didn't seem too upset, so Dhiate began to stand up. He was considerably stronger than before, but he still struggled. His previous gloom was turned into determination and anger with himself. Dhiate still didn't understand how he had gotten so weak.

Cerberus
Love me always

It seemed like hours had passed before the wolf finally stirred again. Cerberus was beginning to think the poor creature was dead, but the frail breath that escaped the confines of that white snout was the only thing that kept him from bursting into hysterics. He couldn’t handle someone else dying on him; he’d already seen too much death in his life. He knew he was likely to see more, because that was just the way life was. But he would prolong the next death as much as possible.

Once the wolf finally opened his eyes and moved, Cerberus let out a sigh of relief and offered a quick lick to his face. Then the creature stood, and Cerberus was up on his feet as well, ready to catch the wolf if need be. You alright buddy? he asked. You seem pretty out of it. Don’t want you hurtin’ yourself. He gave his tail a quick flick as he surveyed the male, and then finally he straightened up again in his usual pompous posture. Once he was sure that the wolf was okay – or at least better than he had been – Cerberus allowed his cocky smile to return as well.

Stretching his snout forward, Ceri cleaned away a smudge of blood on the wolf’s upper lip with his velvety tongue, and then stretched out his lithe body. Then, trotting over to a fallen tree, the coywolf hopped up on his perch and lied down in a rather dramatic, yet enticing, way, and his smile faded to a look of mock-indifference. Well, sighed the hybrid, his voice oozing with mischief, if you no longer need me, then I best be on my way. Of course it was only a test – he noted the wobbly way in which the male stood, and he merely wanted to see if this creature was too proud to ask him to stay and help him further. But, of course, he would leave too if the wolf really wanted him to. Cerberus wasn’t a canine to overstay his welcome, but he also wasn’t one to shy away from a creature as lovely as this one. With his tail swaying flirtatiously above his lower back, Ceri turned his fiery gaze on the male, and waited patiently for his verdict.

OOC- Thanks lol. This one is too short. Sorry

Dhiate's cloudy blue eyes widened in shock. He had gotten licked... By a guy! This dude did realize that they were both males, right? It shocked him more than anything. Where he had come from, everything was strict. Traditions were followed as if their lives depended on them. And in the pack, it did. That was why Dhiate's parents had died the death of traitors. So, that made the simple action of a lick across the same gender's face wrong right?

Whatever. There would be time to think of that later. Right now, his eyes were trained on the male. Dhiate couldn't help but notice the way those muscles rippled beneath a shiny pelt, how those eyes burned with a fire. For some reason he couldn't understand, Dhiate wanted to please this guy. Wanted to make him smile and laugh... But he didn't even know his name! He felt like a stupid little adolescent girl! It really rubbed him the wrong way. He didn't understand what was going on at all.

That tone of voice. It made his eyes harden with irritation. Who was he to talk to him this way? Then it hit him. Wait. He was leaving? Although a smirk of indifference was plastered on his face, he felt it was a betrayal. This wolf welcomed him with open arms, took care of him, and made him become so confused, just to leave. It filled him with an unknown sorrow, and an anger. He put on a face that said, I don't care. Leave if you want to. He couldn't bring himself to show how much it hurt him. How much he feared being alone.

Cerberus
OOC :: Oh psh, you are too hard on yourself! Your posts are great.

Cerberus snorted haughtily at the way the wolf reacted to his motions, and his tail continued to sway lightly behind him. He knew too well by the way the look of indifference was paired with silence that this wolf was disturbed by the thought of his leave – he’d seen his very own brother display this behavior many times before. With a dark chuckle, Cerberus descended from his perch and sauntered over to the other, his mottled body slithering around to nudge against the boy. Ceri knew – or rather assumed – that this creature was simply being cautious out of habit, and that there was a voice inside that milky throat just waiting to escape. It then became his unspoken duty to help this canine relax, as Cerberus was so accustomed to lazing about himself. With a flicker of his mismatched eyes, Ceri nudged the male’s face with his own snout before trotting away again, only to sit a few paces away instead of returning to his perch. Don’t worry kiddo, he jeered as he rolled over onto his back, limbs splayed in the air, it’d be cruel of me to leave you in the state you’re in. It’d be asking for death. He winked then, portraying his playful nature as his tongue finally lolled out of his slender mouth.

Eventually the coywolf rolled back onto his belly, giving his head a gentle shake to toss away any clinging debris before looking back to the male. It was rather interesting to the hybrid how delicate of a frame this canine possessed, for he’d never seen a wolf like him before. Most males he’d met in his lifetime were large, brawny creatures who’d rather spit in your face than slink around you with a swish of their plumy tail. Another chuckle left Ceri’s lips, but this one was softer and not flavored with mischief like his other had been. What’s your name, mate? he asked, tilting his head curiously but otherwise staying still. He’d wait for the boy to make the next move, as his actions were quite entertaining to the punk of a coywolf that was Cerberus.

OOC- Thanks. Sorry this took so long.

Dhiate tensed at the touch of the other. It was strange to feel the warmth, the presence of the flesh and bone that didn't belong to him. How long had it been? How long had it been since he had felt the touch of another? He couldn't remember. He couldn't remember at all. Lately, the memories of his past, personal memories, caused him pain and discomfort. He couldn't recall his parents' faces, yet he could remember the way things were run in his old life. The thought of things he had done ultimately led to the remembrance of those awful flames. He didn't want to remember ever again.

Dhiate glanced at the male from the corner of his eyes. This one had fed him and watched over him while he slept. He was going to leave Dhiate to fend for himself, and yet here he was snuggling up close. What was his deal? Dhiate came to the conclusion that he must feel some perverse pleasure in doing this. What that pleasure was, he didn't know. He had no earthly idea as to what compelled his companion to do the things he did. And when he told Dhiate he wasn't really leaving, it just added to the building anger and confusion.

Dhiate watched the stranger roll on the ground like a simpleton with cold, almost ice blue eyes. He could feel the anger boil up inside him when the stranger asked him his name. Who did he think he was? What gave him the right to toy with people? Dhiate stood up on pale, slender legs. He picked up one milky paw and made up his mind to walk away without another glance. To leave this trickster and die in peace. Yet despite his resolve, Dhiate found his mouth opening against his will, and for the first time in over a month, Dhiate truly spoke. "My name... Is Dhiate. Dhiate Drako. The pain erupted in his throat as the barely healed vocal chords responded to their use. Yet, for once the pain felt good. Pain was better than feeling nothing, better than not having any vocal chords. Dhiate was healing.

Cerberus
OOC :: No apologies or I will have to hug your face off!! OwO

Cerberus watched the dainty wolf carefully, and his ears flattened once he picked up on the hostile energy emanating from him. He didn't think he'd done anything wrong, but perhaps this was the type of canine that preferred to be on their own. But, if this was the case, why did he seem so unsettled at the prospect of Ceri leaving? The coywolf's head spun with frantic thoughts, and his ears remained flat as his tail slowly ceased any wagging it had previously carried out. A childlike sheepishness clouded Ceri's eyes then, and he hardly acknowledged the reveal of the white wolf's name. Once his head cleared, however, Cerberus swallowed hard and offered a curt nod, nothing more than a sign that he'd heard Dhiate. Well, he resolved, I suppose if he wants to leave then there's no stopping him.

Rising to his feet as well, the scruffy boycoy flicked his tail curiously as he stood and waited for Dhiate's next move. That's a nice name, he offered, hoping to ease the wolf's nerves a bit. I'm Cerberus. Though he knew it probably wouldn't do him any good to reveal his name, Ceri felt he should anyway; it was only fair. Even if the boy left now without another word, Ceri would still have the satisfaction of knowing he at least tried to befriend him. With a near-silent clearing of his throat, the coywolf straightened until he stood tall and masculine as he always did, and a look of indifference fell across his handsome face. He would certainly take care of the kid if he wanted him to; he was at least easy on the eyes. But he would let him go, too, if that's what he wanted. Are you alright? Ceri finally asked, his tone cool and searching. He took a tiny step forward then, his nose stretched forward toward the male as he awaited his response.
