She thought still on turning the nimble mare around and returning to the small shamble that she and her children had separated off at. Her sons needed her mother than her daughter, but it had been that way since their infancy - Demetrii especially was the more quiet, soulful child. She missed him perhaps most of all, if only because he fed the dependency in her. He hadn't wanted to leave, but Abaddon had eventually taken his brother by the hand, smiled softly at their mother, and nodded to her plan. They had no attachment to the Inferni clan, and even less to any specific family other than their own small, nuclear unit. They didn't need to go back the way Ahemait wanted to. They had nothing to see, nothing to gain, nothing to prove. Knowing that there was a good chance the two boys had stayed together gave her a bit of peace and allowed her to press on.

With a toss of her sable hair she adjusted the small knapsack that hung loosely over her shoulder and gave the silver mare a small pat on the neck. She still had not named the creature, and was not quite as skilled a rider as she had hoped. It made travel slower, and dusk was already falling around them. The sunflower sea was not something she really remembered, but she knew that she was getting close. It was enough that she felt comfortable thinking about camping here for the night. She led the horse in a slow circle (half of her design, and half of inexperience) until the hooves had stomped down a decent patch in which they could camp. She stopped, swung her long legs off the mare, and got down.

She began making her crude campsite, but still felt a sort of emptiness. She had not really expected the loneliness after all.

Terra

Word Count → 000 :: In Lupus

It was a quick jaunt from the city for Terra. She had finished resetting her traps and laughing her head off at the fool who had managed to get caught. It was ridiculous that he hadn't been able to figure it out without any hints. She had carved a clear map demonstrating which one to pull on the wall where he'd been trapped, but he'd been such a fool he hadn't noticed it. Trotting along Terra lifted her head, smelling a coyote. Curious she trotted over, reaching a meager camp.

Spotting the horse Terra sighed with disappointment. It wasn't one she could eat. Sitting down Terra neatly wrapped her tail around her paws. Hello. The coyote didn't smell of any packs. There was the faint scent of others on her, but they were very faded. They had probably departed from each other. Curious Terra studied the female, noting the drawing need in her air. Terra wasn't too sure what caused it, but the coyote was lacking something.

She stared blankly at the mare, her eyes catching occasionally on the deep blue bridle set before she smiled softly. "I should probably name you, shouldn't I?" she asked, to receive only a tail flicker and a soft snort from the mare in response. She had traded a few supplies for her, the elderly wolf hadn't wanted more than a home for the creature when his own days were ending so soon and for that, Ahemait was glad. She hadn't really had resources to barter off to get such a creature, not when she had the kids (who were not kids by any standards) to still consider and care for. She reached out, flattening her hand on it's broad face. "You're a pretty soul. You'd have to be to stay with me." She mused, with a thin grin. Ahemait, even now, was still vain.

A twitch of brush caused her to fall silent and she reached into her satchel, grabbing a dagger. What she was presently with was what looked like a hybrid popping into their make-shift clearing, easy as you please. Her golden eyes narrowed with suspicion, seeing that the female's face was coyote enough it at least gave her a pause. "Hello," She responded evenly, though offered no more. There were plenty of smells on her, none of which Ahemait was plainly familiar with, but she was not going to start drowning the woman in questions. For now, even shifted, she held the advantage - Ahemait could see no weapons past the natural gifts canines were all given.

It did not mean that Ahemait was not suspicious, or that she would act out in one way or the other. For now though, she made it plain enough as she placed the dagger across her lap, that if needed, her agility would serve her enough.

The silly banter with the horse had Terra grinning. It was ridiculous, treating the horse like something so valuable. All it really was was a large amount of food walking around. Terra almost started laughing at the coyote's vain words to the horse, though the only visible sign was her wagging trail. The sharp look the female gave her did nothing to deter Terra, used to facing much more fearsome opponents than a coyote who lacked something traveling with a horse. She was measured under that sharp gaze, but Terra didn't mind. She wasn't a fighter, but she more than made up for that with her speed and sharp wits.

Yawning Terra lifted up a leg, scratching behind her ear, as at ease as she would be in her own pack. The underlying tension that came from leaving pack lands was completely absent from the coyote, being as used as she was to trespassing and causing all sorts of trouble. Unless the female directly threatened her, Terra wouldn't budge. She looked at the small amount of supplies the female had. You have anything to eat?

It made no sense to Ahemait for the female to just randomly approach and act so casually in the presence of a stranger. She had lived her life, mostly unharmed, but still alive thanks to her cautious behavior. As a child she had been reckless, as a mother she had grown to think first and act later for the sake of her children. Without knowing her, Ahemait was making drastic observations in her head about the other creature. She asked her for food, and the woman frowned. "I do, but it's mine for travel." In other words, Ahemait did not give freely what she had. It was all earned. She did not have any interest in supplying anything for someone she had no ties to.

Some way off she heard the cry of a bird, and a russet ear flickered back towards the sound. "Are you a pack member?" She asked, wondering if there was a place the female was going, or if she intended to just hang out and take up space for the rest of the night.

Terra grinned, still completely cocky. The frown fazed her even less than the glare did. Frowns could mean a lot of things. Terra knew that for the female before her it meant she wouldn't give up her food without a fight, but Terra was used to such oppositions before a meal. Uncurling Terra strode closer to the horse. She paused to examine it, noting the blue bridle and small pack. It probably held the coyote's supplies. Hopefully it didn't hold a weapon.

Turning she fixed sharp green eyes on the female's golden ones. It's a good thing I'm traveling then. You should eat. Terra was just being polite, of course. After the meat was handed out she would happily help herself to it. Hearing the question she cocked her head, eyes laughing at the one before her. Does it matter? She wasn't going anywhere. This female seemed fairly entertaining, and Terra wasn't going back to her pack for at least a short while.

Years of life alone meant that Ahemait had found stragglers before, the beggers, the lessers who could not even be bothered to provide for herself. Unless they were too young to know any better, Ahemait was not willing to provide for them. She saw no need. The weak could get weaker for all she cared - she was not a vigilante that felt the need to tend to the masses. For her, it was all about self preservation and the continuation of her family. "Provide for yourself, I don't give hand outs." She said simply. All that was packed on the mares back was a cloak anyways, it was too cumbersome to fit into the satchel Ahemait wore, which held her actual provisions. She had been traveling for years - she knew better than to leave her necessities unattended.

All Ahemait had wanted really was a chance to plan her next move in peace, but instead she got saddled with some scamp who had nothing better to do than seek things from people she didn't even know. "No more than your curiosity about my supplies does." She countered, in Ahemait's eyes, neither really did, but then again, in the grand scheme of things nothing really did.

So she saw through her plan. Too bad. Terra immediately adopted an extremely hurt look on her face, pretending it had never even crossed her mind. I wouldn't dream of taking from someone who needs food. I was merely suggesting you take care of yourself. Looking away she pouted, pretending that she was deeply offended. Turning her back to the coyote Terra looked across the land, though her ears remained on the female behind her.

Terra chuckled at the female's sharp answer. It was true, she had as much business nosing about in the stranger's supplies as she did asking about her pack. Terra had nothing better to do with her time, however. She was in no particular rush. Moving lazily over to a nice patch in the snow Terra scraped it away and curled up. Meeting the stranger's eyes Terra grinned. Well then. What shall two strangers do to pass the time?
