Example 1
Feathers floated down from the sky as the owls fought. Matthew could have stopped them, but he chose not too, knowing his fearless Snowy Owl would win. He reached out and watched the feathers flutter around his hand before closing his fist around a snowy feather with a trace of crimson on it. He couldn't tell which owl it had come from, but he was hoping it wasn't his. Matthew and Lucian were Voldemort's favorite search and destroy team and losing half of the team could mean his death. He gritted his teeth as a deafening screech filled the air and the smaller Barn Owl plummeted from the skies to the broken ground below. That was the sound of death, it didn't matter how many times he heard it, it still unnerved him.

Job nearly completed the older teen crossed the stretch of destroyed concrete and squatted by the still body of the messenger owl. It was easily recognizable as Igor Karkaroff's owl. Another Death Eater turned traitor it seemed. Harry Potter had been defeated, his lord had made sure of that, but the Death Eaters were losing faith in Voldemort. Every week one or more of them would try to betray their Lord and give information to the enemy. Most of them, with the exception of the Malfoy brat, had payed with their lives. That didn't matter to Matthew though, he had Lucian, named after his favorite Death Eater, and together they had a small amount of safety that Voldemort had granted to them.

He reached down and pulled the message from the small owls leg, tucking into his pocket for later inspection. Then, feeling a sudden wave of unnerving guilt, he pulled his wand and muttered a spell that encased the creature in a crystal coffin, protecting it from any hungry predators lurking about. After all, it wasn't the owl's fault he'd gotten a stupid Wizard. "Lucian," he said to a seemingly empty sky, "it's time to return to our Lord." A screech sounded through the air and a the proud, white owl flew from the sky and landed on Matthew's outstretched arm. A ghost of a smile lit over the boy's lips and he crooned soft compliments to the loyal bird. "You did very well Lucian, you are a very good boy. You'll be rewarded greatly when our Lord hears about your outstanding performance."

With a final stroke of the bird's pristine feathers, the Death Eater turned on his heal and apparated directly into the Dark Lord's chambers. "We've returned master," he said as he bowed to the dark figure seated in front of him. Then he carefully pulled the letter from his pocket and gave it to Lucian to deliver. "It was Igore this time, sir. The letter was with his owl when we intercepted it. The bird was not a problem to defeat though, it is now dead and buried so as to not alert the others." Matthew paused for a moment as his master read over the letter.

"Were there no other letters sent out today?" The Dark Lord spoke as he finished reading the hastily scrawled message, and stood to face his servant.

"No, my Lord, none that I haven't checked over or intercepted." Matthew swallowed nervously, if his master was bored anything could happen to him.

"Very well, here is your reward, do with it as you will." With that Voldemort gestured to the corner where one Draco Malfoy was bound magically to the wall. "He has failed to complete the simplest of tasks once again, but I had the most wonderful idea." Now Voldemort crossed the room to mockingly pat Draco's cheek. "Instead of merely torturing and killing such a finely bred young pup, why not give him to someone who can train him as they see fit and make him worth my previous investments?" The man's snake like gaze fell on Matthew once more, "I'm sure this won't be a problem for you. Will it Matthew?"

Matthew's hands broke out in a cold sweat, he had no clue what task it was that stupid Draco had failed to complete, but he was certain it was nothing as important as this. He swallowed once more and bowed his head lower, knowing that Voldemort could tell he was uneasy. "No my Lord, it won't be a problem at all."

"Good, good. Have fun with your new toy my dear servant. Let me know when he isn't such a complete and utter waste of my time." Voldemort disappeared almost before his final words reached Matthew's ears. This was not going to be good. Now not only did he have to find each and every spy, traitor, or mudblood that tried to infiltrate the Death Eaters, he also had to baby sit and attempt to train bloody Draco Malfoy.

Example 2:

Lucian, a pureblood Slytherin, had been residing on a window sill in the corner of the Slytherin common room when Thomas Jackson and a girl who's footsteps he didn't recognize entered. He had pulled his cloak around him more tightly as they sat down, well Thomas had sat down, the girl remained standing, and listened to their conversation silently. It only took him a few minutes to realize who the girl must have been, a Ravenclaw girl named Heather. He'd heard rumors about how poor her family was and that she was a mudblood. Not that he cared, life had been less than kind to him and he didn't care if it was slightly disappointing for others. He let parts of the conversation reach his ears, the parts that sounded important, though most of it just went over his head. He couldn't stop his thoughts as they strayed to the past, too far into the past.

------------------------------------

"Get on your knees you pathetic whelp!" Lucian tried to place the voice, it sounded so familiar, but without the image to go with it the voice could have belonged to anyone. Wanting to do something, anything, to prevent the inevitable Lucian whimpered out a soft refusal. He stood up from where he had been thrown onto the floor and faced in the direction where the voice had come from. He squared his shoulders, despite the fact that his whole body was shaking, and repeated the words. "No, I-I'm not your slave. I'm Lucian Abraxan Zypher and I will not be turned into anyone's whore!" The words tumbled from his lips before he could think to stop them. He had just told a room filled with Death Eaters "No," surely this would be the cause of his death.

The pain that came next was almost unbearable. Lucian had been a victim of the Cruciatus curse before, but never on this level. He tried to hold back the screams that were bubbling up in his throat, he tried to stay on his feet and not give in, and he succeeded for a small time. But all to soon he felt his shaking knees weaken even more and he slowly sank down, bare skin meeting frigid stone as the curse intensified. The pain got stronger, seeking to destroy, wanting to make him see that he was wrong, but he didn't give in. Sinking his teeth into the soft flesh of his lower lip, Lucan refused to make a sound. Even as he felt his nerves being ripped apart, even as he fell to the ground convulsing in pain, Lucian Zypher would not scream. Another curse joined the first, this one meant to set the bones on fire, and still he refused to scream. A third curse attacked him, invading his mind and forcing all of his worst memories to the front of his thoughts. Pain ripped through his heart as the memories of his father killing his mother were pulled up.

Finally, Lucian gave into the darkness that had been waiting on the edge of his mind. His fragile, malnourished body could take no more and the only thing he could hear as he slipped into blissful unconsciousness was his mother screaming for him to save her.

------------------------------------

Tears were threatening to overflow out of emerald orbs of pain as Lucian forced himself to stop thinking, to stop remembering everything that they had done to him. Once again, he found himself infinitely grateful for the blindfold he wore around his eyes. It had saved him from having his emotions show through more times than he cared to say and this time was no different than any of those times. A wave of pain ran through his body as he thought of his mother and of the Death Eaters who had tortured him so ruthlessly when he was held captive. "No," he whispered in a voice that barely existed. He forced the thoughts away, if he didn't think about them he would be okay.

It was the sounds fighting that snapped him completely from his thoughts. "I had to have known, huh..?" came from Heather's mouth just before he heard an enraged growl and the sound of someone struggling to prepare a punch. The sound of a bone crunching, probably a nose from the soft snapping sound, and a scream of pain told him that Thomas had gone as far as to hit Heather back instead of just restraining her. A small drop of rage flamed deep inside of him as he once again remembered his mother but then froze over immediately as he heard the sound of hands running over fabric, dark chuckles sounding through the air, and the defeated whimpers dropping from the girl's lips.

At the sound of someone spitting and Thomas exclaiming, "I hate the taste of Muggle blood in my mouth," Lucian's heart froze over. The scene he had just witnessed with his ears sounded so much like the ones he had been forced to live through. It seemed like everything the Death Eaters had forced onto him, like the light had just been forcibly removed from someone's life. "No," he repeated as he heard the male leave to go to his dorm. "Not again.."

Sliding from his position on the window sill Lucian slowly moved to the couch by the fireplace, thankful he knew his way around the common room and castle by heart. Kneeling a foot or so from where he thought the girl should be he spoke softly, not reaching to touch her or moving closer. "You have to get up." The words were said softly, hollowly, but he hoped that the girl would listen. If anyone walked in she wouldn't even have her dignity left. "Get up and stop wallowing in self pity. It could be worse." The icy indifference that often showed on his face slowly dripped into his voice as he hid his panic away, this was not the past and he was not in danger here.

Example 3:

A long, sorrow filled howl ripped through the tense night air as the full moon was revealed in the cloudy winter sky. The sound echoed off of broken buildings and fallen structures for much longer than the remaining living creatures had ever heard before. The sound filled them with a feeling of finality and dread. Voldemort had won, the world that millions of wizards had known for most of, if not all of, their lives had been destroyed. Harry Potter and the rest of the Golden Trio had been captured and Remus couldn't shake the feeling that it was partially his fault.

Not that Remus knew who he was at the time. As soon as the full moon had peaked through the clouds the change had ripped through his body and forced him to turn to the vicious instincts of his werewolf self. The lingering howl was cut short by a snarl and a sudden whimper, no doubt a small child or an animal had crossed paths with the creature and fallen victim to his insatiable hunger for fresh blood. Then again, in the current state of destruction it could have been anything.

Lupin had no control over his own body as he grabbed the rabbit. He had no control or remorse as he ripped open its side and caused snowy white fur to turn crimson. He held no remorse as he devoured the creature while it screamed it's death to the world. Even after the creature had died it's final sounds still echoed off of the ghosts of the buildings that had been. The only other sound that could be heard was the sickening tearing sound of the mammals flesh and the crunching of its bones.

If Lupin could see what he was doing he would have likely burst into tears at the sight. He was not a violent person, he wasn't even one to hold a grudge. Even Severus Snape had gotten the man's forgiveness before Najini had bitten him. The blood on his body would make him shake with guilt and sorrow when he awoke, but for now the sound of a muffled yell coming from the Shrieking Shack had caught his attention and he was on the move once more.

-------

Draco's sneer shifted from Hermione to Pansy without batting an eye. Anger boiled in his veins, a defensive retort on his tongue instantly. He opened his mouth to spit the acid words out and found himself sending them not towards the mudblood, but toward his fellow Death Eater. "Lay off you Git, the only thing Granger and the other two are guilty of is saving your pathetic life. That's more than Voldemort will ever do for you." He took a breath, hearing what sounded like a child's toy train rolling around, but ignored it to continue beating the girl standing next to him down. He hated Pansy almost as much as he hated Voldemort. "You think you're so great, licking his bloody boots and throwing yourself at him like some harlot! Well I've got news for you you pathetic, lowly, coward, sucking up to purebloods for protection won't get you shit in his world! You're less than the blood stained dirt caked to the bottom of Voldemort's boots and don't you dare try to push that feeling onto them!"

Draco was panting slightly as he spit out the last of his furious speech, he had never felt like slapping the stupid witch as much as he did now. She had insulted the trio who had fought to save them all, had saved them all more than once. If anyone deserved to be chastised and ridiculed it was Pansy and himself. They were the ones who had always tried to play the evil doers and screw up all the plans of the courageous group, but now Draco was done. He couldn't take living in his father's shadow any more. He was sick and tired of being compared to his father and the other Malfoy's. If being a Malfoy meant hurting more innocent people, he didn't want to be a Malfoy anymore. Without hesitating he whipped his wand out of a hidden pocket inside of his robe and pointed it at the idiotic female standing next to him. "Confingo!"

Not even a second later the Slytherin burst into flames. Her entire body was engulfed as well as her robes and leather boots. It didn't take long before she opened her mouth to scream. Thinking faster than the girl could act Draco flicked his wand at her throat and murmured "Silencio", effectively stopping the sound before it began. Then, knowing there wouldn't be much time before the smell of burning skin permeated the air and alerted Voldemort and the other Death Eater's that something was amiss. "We need to move quickly," he said to Hermione as he lifted the binding spell, not even considering that she could now attack him, "it won't be long for them to notice something's wrong." With a flick of his wrist and a mumbled incantation both Ron and Harry's bonds were lifted as well. Ron was up immediately, but Harry, Harry just looked up at him with clouded eyes. Darn, he hadn't counted on that.

"Help me with him," he said to Ron before the flow of questions began. He reached down to pull Harry to his feet just as Lupin exploded through the window in full werewolf form. Draco now understood what the clicking sound had been; claws on concrete. His arms around Potter he couldn't reach his wand before they were noticed. It was that moment that Harry chose to come back to life, he grabbed Draco's wand and sent a silent binding curse towards the creature, the same one he had been under mere moments ago. "Nice speech Malfoy, next time control your temper and don't forget to notice the werewolf trying to kill us."

If You've Joined the Game As a...
  • ... Loner, do begin considering which of the packs you'd like to join. Survival as a Loner is less realistic -- wolves and other canines are generally social creatures, preferring to live in a pack structure!
  • ... IC pack joiner, you can now begin posting -- you may start your IC pack joining thread whenever you're ready. Make sure you check the pack information to see if the leadership requires anything extra from you!
  • ... OOC pack joiner, the leader still has to respond here before you can start roleplaying -- don't worry, though; if you're rejected from the pack you'll be titled as a Loner, and you're free to pursue other packs or the same one later.
Post-Joining Process
