A ray of light

Fore-Dated to 24th

A rare bout of sun was warming the lands at the moment, melting many thinner patches of snow and causing that which remained to glimmer and sparkly in the light as one tilted their head. Normally it would be a sight that Neela was glad to see but at the moment Neela wished nothing but to hide from the world.

The happenings of the previous day had left Neela exhausted, both emotionally and physically. The realization that she would never see her son again, even now it stuck at her heart to just think of it. The presence of Tony, who was rapidly becoming a fast friend to the older female, had soothed the hurt but, ultimately, done nothing to cure the wound; only time would do that.

If Neela had her way then she would have spent the day in her home, curled up in a ball of self-pity and self-hatred. Instead Grynn had chased the collie out of her own home with a flurry of avian low-speech roughly summing up as get out and enjoy the sun.

So instead Neela was curled up in a ball of self-pity and self-hatred in a patch of grass outside. Admittedly the sun was helping somewhat, the warm rays sinking into the darker fur on her back and lulling the dog into a dozy half-sleep but it was only a temporary solution and if the seasons kept true it would soon be gone again, leaving the dog with nothing to distract her from her darker thoughts.

Still for now she might as well take advantage of it while it was here, sleeping in the sun had once been a guilty pleasure of Neela's; the collie greatly enjoying that slim period when it was hot enough to be pleasant and comfortable but not hot enough that it caused her thick fur to make her overheat, such as now.

OOC heh, we used the same table XD

The black pup was growing, and she was growing fast. Already she'd doubled in size, turning her into a large fluffy ball of charging destruction. Dalgina didn't know what to make of her new height, or the fact that she was almost always hungry, pawing at her Papa for food, or shamelessly begging it off whatever pack member she found. She was incredibly clumsy now as well, which frustrated her to no end. Dalgina would be following a squirrel, or trying to get a closer look at a particularly pretty pattern the ice had formed, and end up slipping, destroying her efforts. That didn't stop her from giving up, though it did mean Dalgina was spending a lot more time with herself, trying to figure out how not to trip over her own paws. Keldava had laughed at that when she'd found out, until Dalgina proved that Keldava was a lot more clumsier than her.

The world was changing as well. The olnayni, which had been a constant in her world since she was born, was getting thin. It squished softly under her feet, and melted easily when she grabbed a mouthful. The sun was warmer, and Dalgina basked in it fully. She still had her puppy fur, though the rough coat of an arctic wolf was beginning to grow in. Soon enough she'd learn what it meant to have too much fur, instead of being easily chilled by the cold as she still was now on occasion. Moving through Dalgina spotted one of her favorite canines, stretched out in a bare spot. Strange thin plants poked up, reaching her back. Dalgina had never seen such a thing before. Forgetting her friend in the investigation Dalgina proceeded to nose at the grass, squirming to get underneath Neela for a better look.

OOC Laughs

Neela's brooding was intruded upon by something cold and wet pressing into her side, causing the collie to jump at the sensation. Curling around Neela saw that her inattentive state had allowed Dalgina to approach her from somewhere without Neela noticing. The puppy was currently trying to get underneath Neela for some reason.

Unfortunately a puppy was the last thing Neela wanted to see at the moment. A wave of sadness shot through her and for a moment she wasn't seeing a playful black puppy but a somewhat calmer fluffy mix of red, brown and white, lively brown eyes replaced by impossibly deep orbs of gunmetal gray. Neela jerked away suddenly and violently, spinning her hindquarters away from Dalgina and into a ball; screwing her eyes shut as she shoved her nose into her thigh fur and covered the rest of her face with her tail.

A low, muffled whine escaped Neela as her ears flattened against her skull in a sad posture.Normally Neela would have been happy to see Dalgina and play with the girl a while but today she could barely stand the sight of her. Nearly everything that she saw reminded her of Leon at the moment and that which didn’t simply left her to her own thoughts, which were just as dire.

Neela moved from her spot, allowing Dalgina to fully investigate the strange form of life she was looking at. Yellow, and green, and brown ones covered the ground! She sniffed at them happily, taking in the scent of the plants and licking at them. They tasted funny, wet and a little stringy. She dug at them with her paws a little before sitting up, tongue lolling out happily. Neela acted strange though, pulling away tightly. She watched in amazement as her friend curled up on herself, tucking her head into her body. A low sad whine came from her.

Recognizing that her friend was sad Dalgina trotted around to sit in front of Neela. She studied the motionless bump for a little bit before whining softly, worry in her voice. She bumped into the collie's leg with her head, trying to get her attention. That didn't work so well. Refusing to give up Dalgina trotted around. Neela was curled up, but not quite tight enough. Dalgina stuck her paws into the space between Neela's stomach and legs. Wriggling as hard as she could Dalgina managed to fit into Neela's lap. Situated there she twisted around in the small space and began to gently lick at her face.

Neela twitched at Dalgina;s continued attempts to get her attention, the puppy evidently realising she was unhappy but not being perceptive enough to realise why. Eventually the pup managed to worm her way into the center of the circle made by Neela's body, small tongue rasping gently over Neela's face in a motion obviously designed to be comforting.

Neela's eyes opened, amber orbs lit with a mixture of sadness and annoyance that the puppy just wouldn’t leave her alone, but they softened as soon as she caught sight of Dalgina's face; the puppy was cute as a button and Neela couldn’t bring herself to be angry with her, especially when she was just trying to help Neela.

" 'Lo Dalgina." Neela muttered, lifting her head from its resting position to give the puppy a single, slow lick on the forehead before it returned to rest. Even if she couldn’t bring herself to be angry with the puppy, not that she should now that she was thinking a little clearer, she was too exhausted and depressed to be much good company at the moment, simply laying there and watching Dalgina out of the corner of one half-closed eye.

"What have you been doing recently?" Neela asked, her voice quiet, tired and sad. Maybe hearing about the regular goings on of the rest of the pack would cheer her up somewhat. Or at least showing an interest in Dalgina's life would allow her to avoid upsetting the puppy. God knows the last thing she needed at the moment was to upset Dalgina and bring Jace's wrath down upon her.

Come to think of it, as much as she wanted to distance herself from the puppy at the moment to give her space to sort out her messed up emotions, she wouldn’t be too happy herself if somebody upset Dalgina.

OOC Laughs

Neela's eyes opened at last, looking down at Dalgina with such upset eyes that she couldn't help but feel like she'd done something to make Neela upset, like she was somehow responsible. It was so similar to the look she received when one of her orej got hurt while they were playing, sad and angry that it had happened. Neela's expression softened a little at Dalgina's upset expression, giving the pup a single lick to the forehead before dropping down again. Whining she bumped Neela's head, trying to think about what could be done to cheer her up.

Asked what she had been up to Dalgina's tail wagged slowly. Maybe if she told her about all the adventures she'd been having Neela would be happy again. I found Olnayni's den, and made myself a true arctic wolf proving against the...the snow, and I learned new words, and I played with my tingla, and I found planty stuff! The plant stuff was new, just discovered moments after finding Neela, but Dalgina was still very interested in it, even if that interest had been sidetracked by Neela's sorrow.
