Dated the 17th

A large, luperci-made axe and maul, with larger, broader heads and longer handles than what was the standard of those made by the humans, a rather large and rusty crowbar, and a leather bag filled with smaller tools including claw hammers, pry bars, screwdrivers and other such objects for removing valuable hardware. Anann tossed those items in the back of the wagon a long with a large water skin and a satchel filled with strips of dried meat. The tools had all be gathered from one of the storage rooms in the courthouse. Some of them, such as the axe and maul, were once her own possessions and now turned over to communal use for the good of the pack. Others had been scavenge from the remains these lands that they had begun to make their own.

Much of Kingsbury had already been gone through. The few houses that were in fixable condition had been left standing but the rest had been demolished. All useful lumber and steel had been salvaged. Anything that could prove of use was kept, but the rest was burned. Much had went to fuel their fires, a few houses had went in the style of a bonfire. Providing a social atmosphere for the growing pack. Now it was time to take their efforts further out into the territory. While they had gathered a significant amount of lumber, Anann worried that it was still not enough for the constructions she wished to start as soon as the ground had thawed.

Anann gave the wagon a quick look over and finding nothing amiss, Anann gave a shrill whistle to call for the horses as she went to fetch the harness. Her own mare, Stardust, was the one she was looking to take out on this trip. The speckled mare still held a bit of an attitude that Anann was hoping could be worked out of her and it did seem to be working.

Hadley had been up taking care of the horses as Wayne had asked him to do. He had made sure they were fed (though it was hard to tell if they were hungry or just greedy), topped their water off, and started grooming them. A whistle rang through the air, and the horses galloped to the far side of the corral. The horse he was working on trotted away, having Hadley follow after with a weak protest. He kept up with them fairly well, jerking to a halt as he saw the frightening female that had allowed him to join.

He knew in his mind that she wouldn't hurt him, as she had been the one allowing him into the pack in the first place. She was still very, very fierce though, and knew how to fight from the way she wore her weapons. Staying amongst the horses he watched her shyly, hoping not to cause any trouble. Hadley was curious what the wagon was for, but asking questions wasn't something he was comfortable with. Chickening out he decided to stick with where he was, and see if he could figure it out just by watching.

With an absent mind Anann had went to gather up a driving harness. The Luna was too busy thinking of the next task that would be at hand that she didn't even notice Hadley as she approached the temporary corral that had been put in place for the duration of the festival that was taking place just south of their borders. It wouldn't be much longer now and the horses would once again be free to resume their free-range grazing of pack lands. "Back." Anann said in a gentle, but firm tone to the horses as she opened the gate wide enough for her to slip into the pen and latched it behind her.

There was a brief look of surprise on Anann's face as she suddenly came to the realization that she was the only one out with the horse. "Oh! Hello, Hadley." Her tone was warm as she gave the timid male a friendly smile. "I didn't realize you were out here. How have you been? Are you liking it here?" Anann had seen the male around Kingsbury a few times on occasion since she had accepted him into the pack and considering the situation that had brought him to them, he seemed to be settling in okay.

Automatically Hadley obeyed the gentle command, not realizing it was for the horses. Feeling immensely foolish he watched the horses jostle at the gate before one was pulled out for the luna's use. He watched her steady the horse, accidentally meeting her eyes as she looked up. Immediately he dipped his head down, ears lowered submissively. It wasn't terrified ears flattened to the skulls submissive, but definitely a lower submission than was required by his rank.

Her light words had him shifting nervously. Hadley wanted to tell her that everything was going well, that he was serving the pack and to beg her to forgive him for catching her unawares. None of which seemed particularly sensible. I-I'm helping Wayne with the horses. His voice was low, something one would have to strain to hear. Wincing as he realized she probably wouldn't like that he cleared his voice and spoke again. I'm trying to help out with the pack. He was louder that time.

Anann gave a soft smile as her eyes met Hadley’s for a brief moment before he quickly turned his gaze downward. She had not realized that his eyes were such a dark brown, not unlike her own. It was odd to think she had not seen his eyes before now, but then remember just how timid and submissive he had been the day Sebastian had brought to him to Casa. At least he seemed to be adjusting. It was sure to be a slow process.

He uttered something. His voice so quiet that Anann could only make out something about Wayne and the horses. She had been about to ask him to speak up a little when he spoke up again and this time a little louder. ”Yes, you’ve been doing a good job, Hadley. I’m sure Wayne appreciates your help.” The Luna assumed that must have been along the longs of what he had first said.

It didn’t take her long to get the halter on the white splashed mare. Anann lead her through the gate. She shut the gate quickly behind the mare, effectively cutting of Noire as the young colt tried to squeeze out behind the mare. He was not the least happy about being pinned up. ”Say Hadley, if you are done helping Wayne for the day, would you like to come with me? I am going to the wagon out towards the coast and see if I can’t find any more lumber and nails.” Anann knew if she told Hadley to come he likely would, as submissive as the male was. By asking him she was hoping it would help him learn he was allowed to make his own decisions now.

Relief ran through Hadley as the leader stated that he was doing a good job. He wouldn't be thrown away, would be able to continue caring for the pack without fearing that he would be declared useless and killed. He nodded his head shyly at her words. Thank you. Anything given to him would be thanked for properly, relishing every single last scrap given to him, whether it was words that confirmed they found him useful or the choice of when he could sleep.

He lifted his head slightly to watch Anann harness up the horse. A colt tried to escape, and Hadley quietly stepped over, managing to not make any sound. Reaching his side Hadley petted the colt affectionately, trying to keep it calm and out of trouble. The question surprised the hybrid. He looked up, confusion showing through as he tried to work through the words. He was being asked to accompany, not ordered, and hadn't been told to help with the lumber and nails. Was he just to stand guard? Or was she making sure his duty with the horses was finished? I can come. He climbed over the fence, stepping behind the wagon to follow it as he was used to with Amy.

Every now and again Anann looked up from the straps of the harness she was working with to watch Hadley and Noire. The roan colt was loving the attention he was getting and soaked it
up like a sponge whenever he got such an opportunity. He was a lot like his father and Anann imagined that Rem was likely much the same when he had been so young, but that had been well before her time.

Once the harness was fitted properly, Anann hitched the mare up to the wagon. Stardust had become rather used the routine and did not make much of a fuss despite her laid back ears. Anann had found
the once-Aniwayan-warhorse to be a far more temperamental creature that Rem and Stardust had not taken well to her demotion in duties. Once she had proudly carried warriors into battle and now she was nothing more than a
simple cart horse in the hands of the Luna. If only she could prove herself to be trustworthy than it would likely only be a temporary status for the mare, but that was yet to be seen.

It had taken a moment for Hadley to answer, but eventually he decided to come along as he clambered over the fence. Once the mare was all hitched up Anann seated herself in the drivers seat behind the mare and
waited for Hadley to go ahead and climb up in the wagon. After a moment of still being seated in the wagon alone Anann looked back to see what was taking Hadley so long. Only to find him standing patiently behind the wagon as if he were waiting
her. "Wouldn't you rather ride?" She asked. There was plenty of room, either on the seat next to her or in the back of the wagon, there was really no need for him to walk the whole way.

The wagon didn't start moving, which was rather surprising. Thinking that the leader was taking her time preparing Hadley remained patient, knowing how difficult it was to prepare the wagon and plan out the route. It was all very familiar to him. Time stretched on, Hadley staying still and making sure that he didn't do anything disruptive. Anann finally twisted around, surprise etching her face. Nervously Hadley glanced behind, wondering what he'd done.

Asked if he wanted to ride in the wagon Hadley gave her a rather baffled look. He wasn't injured, so there was no need for him to ride. He had no status either which would grant him such a luxurious offer. Nervously he looked around, wondering if it was someone else she was asking. Me? This was certainly strange. There was no need to be in the wagon. Unless Anann was planning on hurting him badly enough that he'd need it, and saving herself the effort of moving the large hybrid.
