22nd February 2012 . 11.30am . Halifax . Optime Form

His head was spinning from the previous days encounters. He'd made it over the mountains with good stead and had made it down to Casa di Cavelieri to meet with Dixie-May and Wayne. The two had taken Gypsy back with open arms and had agreed to board Maia until her foal was born. It was everything Saul could ask for and he'd thanked the two more profusely than he normally did before he'd taken his leave. From Casa, he'd moved through the Sugarwoods with ease. It was there that his world had shifted and he'd met two travellers who had introduced themselves as Niernan and Bran Stormbringer. The young male had been stunned to have simply stumbled upon more relatives that he had no knowledge of, although it was nothing compared to the share of information that trio had had as they'd settled down beside a fire to talk. He'd found out about the circumstances of his birth, how controversial they were. The darker male he'd met yesterday had also told him that his siblings were in the Valley with the rest of the Stormbringers, for which Saul was grateful to hear. He was able to let go of the worrying he'd held on to for so long about his brother, to know they he was safe with family.

Saul knew it would take him days to sift through all of the information that they'd shared, as well as through his thoughts and feelings on the subjects and the fact that he had two more relatives roaming around. It pleased him, that was for certain. But he also knew that his destination had not altered. They'd spent the night by the fire together, talking long into the night. Saul had taken the first watch to allow the tired travellers some rest before taking a nap close to dawn. They'd parted ways just a few hours ago with the promise to find one another soon enough. If the boys stuck around Halifax enough, they were sure to run in to one another and Saul would be pleased to see both of them again. He'd decided that his plan was still to go and find Lilin, and perhaps the boys would find them again at some point.

He of course, didn't know exactly where Lilin lived. She'd mentioned Halifax when they'd met out by the lake and Saul had decided that this was where he would start. Temeraire bounded forward, eager to explore and discover everything and anything that he could. Saul had had to tell him a good few times to stay close, his words getting firmer each time his son disappeared and his heart flipped in his chest. While he knew that Lilin lived close by, he wasn't sure on the exact place and as he came to a stop by a relatively in tact bench, halting the two horses that he led, he wondered how on earth he was going to contact her.

(304) --

In contrast to January's festivities, the latter month had been a swirl of routine and learned lessons around Hilsburn. New working methods had been observed and somewhat acquired, generally pertaining to the maintenance of the secondary greenhouse where Barrett had helped her temporarily relocate the juvenile bamboo plant she'd haggled from a merchant at the festival. For every one of his flaws, there was an even greater characteristic in him also - Lilin more than appreciated their living arrangement and truthfully, she wasn't quite ready to leave just yet.

It had been a relatively quiet day in the city. Birds were chirping cheery songs and the breeze was mellow. As opposed to the usual tomfoolery and nighttime activitities around her place of residence, the change of pace was welcomed. She hadn't planned on going very far initially, a leisure walk around the property and nothing more. Her limbs, with a mind of their own, had taken her farther north to Humber Park, situated right next to the biggest lake in the area. It wasn't unreasonably far from home; a fifteen minute walk at a slower pace. Although the city wasn't theirs to claim, random encounters were extremely rare.

For that reason alone, never could she have anticipated what came next: the familiar scent(s) lingering in the area, located precisely on one of the park benches as she'd come to witness personally. "Saul? Is that you?" she questioned tentatively, nearing closer to the resting group. A smile crept onto her lips as she caught sight of a little boy, by no doubt her cousin's son. What she saw triggered a feeble wag of her tail, paired with a badly concealed expression of bewilderment. The gathering before her was quite impressive and somehow, she doubted this was merely an impromptu visit. "Are you okay?"

lets get this show on the road!

As he sat there, green eyes watching his son roll in the undergrowth around the bench that he'd settled on, doubts plagued his mind. Ichika was a safe place, one that his son would grow up loved by many and protected by the might of the pack. But so much had changed that the man didn't know what was certain anymore. X'yrin's own culture, the small amounts that had been divulged in their short conversations, was so different to Ichika that Saul didn't know how stable it would remain. The curiosity to find out what else was out there, coupled with the intense dislike for all the changes that had occurred were enough to push him over the edge. He felt terrible about leaving Eclipse most of all- Saluce was a grown man and had a mate who had ascended to power recently. Eclipse had no-one and Saul had told her in no uncertain terms that he would be sticking around. His only solace was the fact that he hadn't left the area and he hadn't been banished from Ichika so he could always go back and visit whenever he wanted. Hopefully he would be able to keep in contact with his almost daughter back in Ichika.

His thoughts were racing so loudly around in his mind that he didn't at first hear Temeraire's bark as somewhere entered their little bubble of rest. He did, however, hear his name and green eyes became undazed enough to snap upward and connect with Lilin's split form. He jolted once before a grin slipped across his face. It felt, just a little bit, like divine intervention. He had no idea where to look for his cousin, but she'd arrived on his doorstep just a few moments after he'd stopped to rest for the moment. He stood, unsure of what sort of greeting he should give. Eclipse would have been offered a hug, and the brothers Grimm that he'd met just the day before would probably have been offered the same courtesy, but the protocol on greetings was lost on the female. He was about to answer affirmative, it was in fact him, when she came to the conclusion herself and asked if he was okay. That was certainly a loaded question.

"My son and I are well, although we find ourselves homeless. Purely by my own choice, but homeless none the less." He paused then, doubt and insecurity creeping in. What if Lilin didn't want him? Not in a romantic way of course- she was his cousin even if he had no idea about how far apart they were in their own family tree. But what if she didn't want to take him in, what if she didn't want anything to do with her family. He realised now, far too late to change anything, that he'd been far to presumptuous for his own good. Still, he was here now and there was no way he would be going back. He would just have to suck it up and ask her. His ears dipped and he held what appeared to be a submissive pose as he looked back towards her. "I realise now how presumptuous it is of me to come and find you when I have no home... But I thought... no, hoped that maybe you might be able to help my son and I." Saul managed to stutter out, hoping beyond anything that they wouldn't be rejected by their family. Of course, should she turn them away, Saul would try his best to find the gruesome twosome he could now also call cousins and see if he could travel with them.

(499) using hot mel table. XD wotd: liege

There was silence in the air, fueled by her larger cousin's uncertainty, followed by the faint hum of his explanation cutting through assumptions and concerns. Lilin listened quietly, unable to do much else, as the situation was elucidated and made clear. There were pieces missing from the puzzle, making it hard to understand what had triggered such a bold move from Saul; a man judged to have morals, family values and his head screwed on right. The underlying reason for him to have made such a decision, one directly involving his young son in a way that could possibly jeopardize his future, was assuredly justified. There wasn't much she could say to lighten the mood when it was revealed that two of her family members were now homeless. Although no explicit allegiances had been promised, not to her friends nor family, it was obvious by now where her liege laid.

Moral support was not her forte but she could offer shelter and a shoulder to lean on, as Barrett had done with her and three others in need. She hadn't shown much emotion aside from a perma-frown plastered to her forehead until the ultimate motive finally surfaced. Her face softened then, recognizing herself in a not so distant past. Hilsburn was getting crowded but as far as she knew, the room next to hers was still available and big enough for a father and his ward. For once, a male of the Stormbringer bloodline took his child's best interest to heart - there was no way she would hinder the steps he'd undertaken towards exemplary fatherhood. "Me and three others are currently guests in Barry's house a little ways south from here," she started, indicating the general location with the tip of her nose before continuing. "We help with chores around the property in exchange for shelter and good company." The information was thrown into the equation out of formality. She doubted Saul was one to take things for granted - surely he'd put his skills and knowledge to good use without being asked.

"Ariadne recently joined us not too long ago," she started, turning to Temeraire for the next divulgement. "Ezra is originally from Cours des Miracles. He has a nice little boy named Elias." It would do both pups some good to play with someone their own age. Moving on, she revealed the last remaining residents. "Then there's Barrett, of course. He runs the place with his two associates, Axle and Grit." The titles used were a little too formal even for Lilin. She liked to think she was friends with all parties involved but it was easier explained this way. Mediterranean blue irises met the three accompanying animals shortly thereafter and she hesitated, wondering if the horses would squeeze into the small stable with Petra and Joren. "We have a stable small in size where Ezra and Barry's horses are kept, we'll have to arrange something for yours. Let's go find Barry first though, shall we?"

sorry for the wait hun, assignments are eating me alive!

Saul was certainly an over-thinker and it was safe to say that he felt as though he was about to pass out. The doubt and uncertainty racing through his body was enough to give him a serious stomach cramp. It also didn't help that a million different possibilities were racing through his head- the 'what ifs' were beginning to get a little unbearable. He didn't think his insecurities had ever been this bad and it was a terrifying moment of his life. Green eyes were trained on his cousins body as he saw her relax, he felt a spark of hope. Cinnamon backed ears crashed forward as her soft voice came again, the tension in his body lessening slightly. She told him about where she lived as well as the services they provided to be able to stay there. Saul had strived for most of his life to be a useful member of a pack, an asset instead of a liability and he prided himself on the fact that most saw him as such. He knew that if he was given the change, he would do everything in his power to maintain this reputation. Of course, the paranoid part of his mind old him that this wasn't a 'Yes' this was a, 'Wait and see' kind of situation. She'd indicated the direction of the place and Saul wondered how far away from Halifax it actually was.

He didn't say anything for the moment, the nervous ball in his stomach still tight as Lilin continued on to tell him who was there. Although she gave no gender to 'Ariadne', it was clearly a feminine name, so Lilin was not on her own in that department. She turned to Temeraire then, who had been relatively silent at the moment. As he was addressed, the dark furred boy tucked his muzzle into his chin, blue eyes sparkling as he looked up at his cousin. "We can play?" He squeaked, whip-like tail thumping against Saul's leg. Saul chuckled softly as Lilin continued to introduce the others, including Barrett and his 'associates' Axle and Grit. Saul wondered what Barrett used his property for, but he supposed he would find out sooner than later. Lilin finished by telling him that they had a small stable, but it was filled at the moment. Nodding softly, he reached back to stroke Hermes' muzzle softly.

"The boys are used to the cold- they should be alright outside as long as there isn't a harsh frost or anything." He said, before Lilin told him that they should go and find Barrett. Nerves twisted his gut once more as he moved back to take the reins of the two stallions. "Lilin... thank you for helping me." He said quietly, a hand run nervously over his arm as he moved forward. "How did you find Barrett?" He asked, green eyes inquisitive as he moved forward and allowed her to take the lead.

All facts taken into consideration, namely her past involving rituals and the sacrifice of innocent lives; the presence of children in the vicinity had always been taboo. While Lilin was not the threat to be feared, it still made her uncomfortable to know that somewhere deep within, she had the capability of bringing harm upon them just as Lillith had. Such concerns had subsided with little Eli constantly running about and rather slowly, self-trust had appeared where there had previously been none. Attributed to Temeraire was additional caution, fueled by the blood they shared and Saul's undeterrable dedication to his son. Respect for her cousin was the main motive behind her interaction with the boy. Respect would be the component that would permit her to put the child's life before hers should a situation ever call for it. Nothing else. Whatever motherly instincts she had, if any, had not made themselves known until now. She did not get any tingly, fuzzy feelings of love and adoration when looking at puppies. ''Yes Teme, you can play.'' she confirmed, cracking a smirk as the boy's tail drummed energetically against his father.

Her eyes trailed back up only to settle on her cousin's everlasting expression of worry. The smirk faded off her face then, recalling how she'd felt before finding her coffee-colored landlord. Anxiety was understandable at this point; his was undoubtedly amplified by the child in his care. It was one thing to be in control of one's own life but to make decision's for another being was not easy, she assumed. Finally he answered, explaining that the presently undersized stable would not be an immediate problem. Lilin didn't know much about caring for the creatures; Barrett and Ezra would be better suited to find a solution than she. Time was alloted as her relative moved to take the reins before following suit with his little boy in tow. She hesitated for a moment, debating whether to ask if he needed help with anything but before she knew it, the male was ready to move forward. She led gladly, allowing her tail to wag with the excitement at the prospect of having one of her family members living with her - however temporary of a situation it might be. His gratitude rang clear and Lilin merely replied with a squint of her eyes and a genuine smile. ''Don't worry about it,'' she countered, giving his arm a playful push.

The two-toned femme fell silent as her cousin's question was assimilated. Of course he'd want to know about Barrett and for that she did not blame him. ''Chance meeting, I suppose - we ran into each other randomly in the city. He's an easy person to get along with. Been living with him for approximately four new moons now,'' she replied truthfully, noting the landowner's surreal carefree nature. Saul would have to see it for himself and then perhaps his nerves would calm. ''Why me, by the way. Why did you seek me out?'' she asked casually, keeping her gait brisk and determined as they neared closer to the property she knew so well.
