Terra had decided to stop in on her friend Hotaru before continuing north to climb through the mountains. She would be starting the journey Soran had promised and failed to give her. Cheerfully she walked through the borders, passing a wooden ball from hand to hand. It was a nice piece of work, something that Terra had spent days fiddling with before it was finished. It was a simple puzzle, with the right pressure points struck opening it up to reveal a simple symbol, the word friendship where she had come from.

Finding Hotaru was easier said than done though. Differentiating through the different pack scents was difficult, being lazy about how she had found Hotaru before. At last she managed to pick up her friend's trail, following it along until she came across a large flat rock and a strange wooden thing. She didn't know what it was, and set about investigating it. She sniffed it, identifying the scents of Hotaru, and a male as well. Her hands ran over the wood, enjoying the smooth feel before climbing onto it and laying out, forgetting her original reason for coming.

Fawkes sat on the old dresser, his talons sprawled out on the new wood. Originally the grey wolf had found the dresser to be more in the way than anything else. But recently she had decided to tackle it as her new project. Although mostly simple, there were some intricate leaf shaped designs on the old dresser making the task of restoring the wood more difficult. However, the things she had replaced felt beautiful under her paws and Fawkes certainly seemed to like the fix. The grey female had managed to completely replace or restore the the frame to the dresser, leaving her with only the drawers to finish. Hotaru had spent hours the previous night studying the drawers so she could replicate them.

With the dimensions and designs in mind, Hotaru packed her satchel full of tools and grabbed the previously prepared wood. The scent of fresh wood filled Hotaru's nostrils and she smiled in anticipation for the days work. Carving was something she loved to do, and it filled her with the most astounding sense of peace. With Fawkes close behind her, the two set out of the house. Hotaru could feel the wind rustle her fur as the large bird flew past her head. She stepped out into the sunlight and enjoyed the feeling of the suns rays against her skin. Hotaru moved with practiced steps towards her normal carving rock but stopped when she picked up Terra's scent. Her nose and ears twitched, but the blind wolf continued on to the boulder where she placed her burden.

Fawkes had flown out of the house before Hotaru and the sight that greeted the hawk was surprising. There was that coywolf from the forest, and she was laying on the bench that his master had made. Fawkes flew to the bench and landed gracefully onto the back. He turned his head to stare at Terra and asked inquisitively, "Terra tired?" Fawkes caught a smile on Hotaru's face, meeting friends so suddenly could even get the normally stoic wolf to smile. "Hello Terra."

The sound of footsteps had Terra sitting up, looking to see who it was. Hotaru walked forward, faltering slightly before continuing her stride, reaching the rock. Grinning Terra knew that Hotaru had picked up on her presence. Tail wagging Terra remembered the whole reason why she was there. The hawk landed over her, head cocked as she looked questioningly at the bird. No. Curious what this is. It's wood, but it's too smooth.

Hotaru's smile lightened her spirits. Scrambling off the bench she walked over to her friend, the carved ball in her hand. Grinning proudly she held it out. I made something for you. Thought you'd enjoy it. Terra didn't tell her that it was a puzzle, leaving that as part of the mystery to solve. Tail wagging she glanced over at the bird, sticking her tongue out at it, enticing it into another game.

Hotaru didn't spend a lot of time tending to her things. She simply placed them on top of the rock and made sure that they wouldn't go anywhere. Once the simple task was complete she turned around. Hotaru felt comfortable around Terra, even if their meeting was a little strained. In her ease the grey wolf allowed herself to relax and lean casually against the boulder. One of her arms was placed palm down while the other hung loose in the air. Her ears twitched high but one was allowed to flick to the side in a casual manner. Terra's comment even made Hotaru laugh a little. "Your right about it being made of wood. It's a bench, something that I made for people to sit on. Not very fancy, but it gets the job done."

Terra's scrambling was evident even to the blind wolf. Her feet moved quickly and her words came in an excited jumble. Hotaru reached out with her free hand, her fingers touching the soft wood in the darkness. She carefully grabbed the ball and brought it back. The ball wasn't particularly heavy, although it was clearly a dense piece of wood. Still, there was something about it that seemed odd to Hotaru. Releasing her weight form her other hand she brought the second dexterous limb up to examine the ball. There were small grooves around the sides and some of them seemed like they were loose. Hotaru frowned as she studied the ball, it was clearly puzzling her.

The blind wolf brought the ball up to her nose and gave it a good sniff as she tried to figure out just what to make of it. "What on earth have you made Terra? Knowing you the answer is either going to be plain as day or something shrouded in mystery." Hotaru gave a mischievous grin, the challenge obvious to her. Her hands continued to sit and explore the ball while she looked for any defining characteristics that might give her a hint as to what it might be or the purpose behind it. It was clear to anyone who knew the wolf that she enjoyed her present.

Fawkes stared at the pair of wolves as he tried to dissect their conversation. It wasn't easy. Although he knew more high speech than he could say, he still didn't know every last word. However, Terra's gesture did not go unnoticed. The red bird ruffled his feathers and turned around. It it was going to be contest of rude gestures then he could certainly dish those out. Fawkes lowered his body and lifted his tail feathers to give the coywolf a less than flattering view of his body.

Hotaru's relaxed nature wasn't something that Terra expected. She wasn't one to tolerate weakness, and if the wolf displayed any of that Terra would be gone. The strength that radiated from the wolf remained though, and Terra kept up her happy air. She wasn't sure how Hotaru managed, but it was definitely impressive. A lesser wolf would have died. The laughter moved Terra's thoughts from basic instinct back into the present. Glancing over at the bench she studied it curiously. Something made specifically to sit on? Terra had sat on plenty of things, and while some might have been designed for that purpose, she didn't know it. In her mind this was the first of it's kind that she'd seen.

Terra watched Hotaru explore the presence. Her tail wagged happily at her friend's compliment. Well, it might not have been meant as one, but the fact that Hotaru saw her as one who could have something shrouded in mystery was pleasing to the coyote. She strived to be able to bewilder and surprise people, enjoying their expressions as they experienced it. Whether it ended in rage, bewilderment, or amusement, Terra loved it all. That's for you to find out. Terra watched as Fawkes returned her gesture with one of his own, bringing a chuckle from her. As soon as the bird turned back around Terra made a big show of having not noticed the action.

Terra's amazement at the bench was amusing and in Hotaru's mind it was a compliment. After all, her pieces didn't often strike wonder and interest. And if they did, it was often times for the wrong reason. Hotaru's attention turned from Terra's wonderment to the strange object in her hands. Eventually almost the entire world had been blocked out until it contained just the ball and a shadow of her companions. What ever it was, the coywolf wasn't about to tell and her words only made the blind wolf more determined to figure things out.

While his master fiddled with the round wood Fawkes fumed on his perch. He hated to be ignored and the coywolf had completely ignored his gesture. The indignant bird flapped his wings a little before he finally decided to take off. It was a quick flight to Terra's shoulder, but he made a big show it. Fawkes flapped his large wings an unnecessary amount as he landed on her shoulder before he quietly folded them. His powerful claws gently flexed against her skin, more for show then balance. And just for added attention he reached up and playfully yanked on her ear. This would teach her that he was not one to be ignored.

The rustle of wings caught Hotaru's attention, but when the expected weight didn't arrive the blind wolf started paying attention. Fawkes had landed somewhere else. Terra? It wasn't unlikely, although to what end? Hotaru was completely unaware of the silent confrontation occurring between Fawkes and Terra; although it wouldn't surprise the grey wolf to find out that they were going at again. As Hotaru pondered Fawkes's behavior she paid less attention to the ball in her hand until a faint click brought her focus back to the strange object. Click? It moved? Hotaru rubbed her hands along the ball, sure enough there was a depression where her thumb had just been. A puzzle! It was a puzzle! The carver's mind began to spin as she worked out how not only to solve the puzzle, but how to replicate one. Once the trick had been found out, it didn't take her long to find the rest of the pressure points and open the ball.

Hotaru rubbed the flat surface of the opened puzzle ball, the runes etched into the stone unfamiliar to her. Was it another puzzle? Finally her curiosity got the better of her. "Terra, what's on the inside? It's lettering of some sort, but I can't quite make it out."

The heavy sound of beating wings had Terra turning back, curious to what the hawk had come up with this time. Seeing the bird swooping for her Terra did her best to stand her ground and not snap at him like some silly girl afraid of a bird. He certainly seemed a lot larger moving towards her now. She flinched slightly as he landed, quickly relaxing as that seemed it was all he was going to do. Her ear was tugged, and Terra twisted her head around, promptly covering the bird's face with a big slobbery lick. She grinned before shrugging her shoulder, threatening to tip him off.

Hotaru's words brought her attention back to her friend. Looking over Terra's tail wagged eagerly as she saw that the puzzle had been solved. The blind wolf's hand traced the runes, trying to figure out what it meant. It's a symbol from my birth pack. It means friendship. Or something very close to that at least. It was used to mark packs that would welcome the wandering coyotes, one drawn when approaching the pack to let them know that it wasn't an enemy coming near. With that symbol drawn it showed acceptance and protection within the pack. It wasn't the same as family, where all secrets were shared, but it was very close.

The wet lick crossed his face and left his beautiful feathers disgusting and ruffled. He could feel them standing in odd positions, stuck like that due to her saliva. Fawkes was frozen in disgust and surprise. When her shoulder tipped down it became increasingly difficult to hang on. His claws tightened a little out of reflex and his wings started beating in an attempt to right himself. Perching on the multi-colored coywolf was not the best decision in the world. So, he took off again, his wings flapping hard to gain air. However, Fawkes didn't go very far. His powerful strokes managed to get his large body above Terra which allowed him to settle on her head. His wings remained stretched out to give him extra balance and cast a dark shadow on Terra's form. Fawkes brought his own head down and looked at her upside down face. His beak parted a little in his own avian version of a smile.

Friendship, the idea of it was almost preposterous to the blind female. She had been betrayed by her two, no three of her closet companions. They had left her to die or to sit alone with a broken heart. Could Hotaru really make friends with anyone, could she trust them? Hotaru's head turned towards Terra as she once again desperately wished for them to work. They moved a little, as if trying to see through the dark but still nothing came. Her eyes were fine, it was her brain that wasn't working properly. The grey wolf's hands traced the rune again, and a sad smile momentarily spread across her face. Terra was blunt, rude, and sweet all at the same time. Yes, Hotaru could be friends with someone so strait forward and had been for a while.

"Terra, this is wonderful. I love it. Did you make it?" Hotaru held the ball carefully as her fingers expertly traced its entire form. "I would love to know how to make one. It's so strange and complex. The challenge will be more than worth my time."

OOC think we can summarize the lesson and just skip the details?

The look on Fawkes' face was worth the taste of feathers in her mouth. She didn't eat a lot of birds, usually just eggs from nests and the occasional injured one that couldn't fly away. Terra didn't particularly like the taste, but from the look on his face it appeared he'd enjoyed it just as much as she had, bringing a small laugh from her. She winced slightly as his talons dipped into her body, squeezing for balance, before he took to flight, landing on her head. Terra twisted her head up, watching Fawkes lean over, with what looked like a grin on his face. Terra smiled and turned back to face Hotaru.

Hotaru was studying her very intently. The feel made her extremely unnerved, even if she knew that Hotaru wasn't actually seeing anything. Automatically she moved around, finding a place where she didn't feel the intensity on her body. It was like the wolf was trying to see through her, figure out what made her tick. She sighed with relief as Hotaru's attention returned to the puzzle ball in her hands, the intensity in her gaze slipping away. Terra's chest puffed up as Hotaru asked if she made it. Of course! Wouldn't give you some second hand gift someone else made. It just wouldn't have the same meaning to it.

Hearing that Hotaru wanted to be able to make such a challenge as well more than pleased Terra. She loved tricks in all their forms, and it wasn't often she was able to pass on that love to someone else. I can show you. Would take some time though. She looked up at Hotaru expectantly, waiting for her idea to be approved. It would definitely take time, Terra not sure how to show a blind wolf how to make something and this being her first time teaching something anything.

Hotaru
Earth, Sky, Day, Night;
Sound and silence,
Dark and light
One alone is not enough,

You need both together.....

Word Count :: 000 Short post, sorry.

The whole interaction between Fawkes and Terra was lost on the blind wolf. She didn't know what was going on, although she didn't really want to know. By the sounds of it though Fawkes had made a new friend. As Hotaru stared out into the darkness she could hear the shuffling of feet. Was her gaze making Terra uncomfortable? Hotaru didn't know, but once again it mattered little to her. She couldn't see and didn't keep her head up long. However, Hotaru did notice the sigh that Terra gave out and a small smirk crossed her face. So even Terra could get nervous.

Meeting another carver was always a joy however, Hotaru never figured Terra to be one. "The interesting coincidences of life." Her words were spoken so softly that they were almost inaudible. To Hotaru's surprise Terra agreed to teach her how to make the puzzle sphere. It was one thing to meet another carver, and a completely different thing to meet a carver who was willing to share their techniques. Now Hotaru was really smiling. "Why don't we wait then? We can get some pleasantries out of the way and then end the day with the lesson. How about you tell me about all the trouble you've been up too."

Asked to tell what kind of trouble she'd been in since they'd last seen each other caused Terra to grin. She always was in trouble of one sort or another. Her most recent venture wasn't something she was particularly proud of, but it was something to share. Well apparently, rabbits aren't always something to eat. The idea was a very strange one to her, most likely something she would only learn how to tolerate, not something she would adopt.

That wasn't the only thing she'd been up to lately, but explaining that she'd just recently come out of heat and was still too embarrassed to face most of the males that she'd flirted with was something she decided was best left alone. What about you? Manage to get some food on your own, or still waiting for strangers to show up and help you out? Terra knew that she had been one of those said strangers, even though it was incredibly strange for her to help someone else.

The mention of rabbits and how they weren't always food brought back memories. When Hotaru first joined d'Arte she had come across a strange, but highly intelligent dog named Bambi. It was then that Hotaru was introduced to the unusual concept. Holding a living rabbit in her arms went against every instinct she had, yet it wasn't so bad. The soft fur and warm body beneath her finger, hearing it purr when it had calmed down enough. Heck, that was the first time she had heard a rabbit do anything but squeal. Hotaru nodded her head a little to show she understood and felt Terra's sentiment on the matter. "Well, there are stranger things in this world. Just give me a few minutes to come up with one."

When the question was directed at Hotaru she rolled her eyes. Ah, yes. Her numerous misadventures at hunting. "No, I've finally gotten the hang of it. It was a...learning process, but now I can feed myself. Although I'm still only hunting small animals. Perhaps I will try for a deer soon. I'm thinking during birthing season when there should be plenty of weak does and newborn fawns. Although, a hunting partner is always nice." Hotaru liked Terra and the prospect of hunting with a friend would be a dream come true. Hotaru didn't like being completely alone, and with Light no where to be found she had no visitors to look forward too.

Hotaru spent most of her days devoid of any canine companionship, either in the woods or on her carving rock. Most times, she was perfectly happy being alone. It meant no questions or awkward conversation. She didn't need to hide her emotions or pretend like her dreams weren't eating away at her subconscious. However, there were also times where Hotaru craved canine companionship and it could get lonely. Fawkes was her constant companion, but he wasn't much in the way of conversation.

A smile lit up her face as Hotaru mentioned that there were stranger things in the world. She knew that was true, and was determined to see as much of it as possible, even if it left her mind rather befuddled, unable to do much beyond tolerate it. That was the highest level she could reach when things went against her instincts. Terra rather liked Fawkes, even if she saw keeping him with Hotaru as a little strange, but at least he wasn't food like the rabbits were.

Hearing that Hotaru could finally hunt by herself set her tail wagging. Terra herself mainly hunted small things, though when in a group she became powerful enough to help take down larger prey, even able to defeat a cougar. Hunting with others is always fun. It helped deepen bonds, gave a rush as they fought between life and death, and they ended up with a good meal at the end. You want a hunting partner, I'm always willing to come along. Provided I get a share, of course. Terra chuckled lightly, knowing there was no real question about that.

For a blind wolf, Hotaru could get around pretty well. Even though she still carried her walking stick with her whenever she could, she no longer relied on it as heavily as she once did. Hotaru had always been praised as a fast learner and someone who possessed an excellent memory. The grey wolf was exceptionally happy to have such a vital skill. There were times when Hotaru had to memorize routes after traveling through them only once and others where she had to recall a path that she hadn't used in a very long time. In those types of situations, her skill and abilities were greatly challenged. Somehow, she had managed to past each obstacle with no terrible consequences. Although there were several times where she had wandered for hours trying to find her way back.

Even though her every day activities weren't too badly impacted by her lack of sight, hunting had been impossible in the very beginning. Even her successful hunts were only won by extreme luck combined with hours of practice and patience. However, with a hunting partner Hotaru was sure she couldn't go wrong. Happy that Terra had accepted her invitation she replied with an obviously fake air of superiority. "Of course you get a share. A nibble on the legs should suit you just fine." Hotaru's grin turned into a smirk as Fawkes chuckled in his avian fashion. "Alright, I guess you can have more than that. We can fight over the good parts. Just be warned, I won't go easy on you."

At the sound of Hotaru's false dominance Terra immediately dropped her ears down, adopting a comically submissive pose. Squirming around she twisted so she appeared to almost be begging for her life, if it weren't for the twinkle in her eyes and the raised tail showing her humor. A nibble on the legs? How greatly generous! Swiftly she popped back out of the pose, assuming her usual carefree manner that lacked such poses.

The look that she gave Hotaru when the wolf mentioned fighting over the food wasn't friendly at all though. It was a feral look, one promising that she wouldn't be going easy either. Food was hard to get, and even the mention of a battle had her slipping into the mood of a predator, cunning and deadly. Shall we get going? It didn't take a genius to hear the edge on her voice, the hunger that had been absent merely moments before. Stepping forward she lifted her head, tail swaying softly as she scented for prey.

It didn't take long for the scent of moose to reach her. Carelessly she glanced over at her weaker companion. Stepping forward Terra made hardly a noise. She had become the epitome of what she always strived for, the silent trickster that could do as she wished, none able to stop her. The moose was as good as theirs.

Without working eyes it was impossible for Hotaru to see Terra's reaction to her teasing. However a flurry of wings and a weight on her shoulder told the blind female that whatever the coywolf was doing, it had disturbed Fawkes. Fawkes raised his beak a little and whispered into her ear, his words spoken completely in avian low speech. Fawkes described to her what Terra was doing in great detail so that Hotaru could have a clear picture of her antics. Once Fawkes was done with his explanation the grey wolf couldn't help but laugh.

The change in Terra's demeanor was stunning. The edge in her voice was unmistakable. In what seemed like an instant the friendly coywolf had turned into a hungry hunter. Hotaru's gray tail flicked to the side as she too picked up on the mood. The grey wolf signaled to Fawkes with a quick yip. He immediately took to the air while Hotaru shifted as quickly as she could into her lupus form. It took only a minute to complete and after a quick shake she gave Terra a wolfish grunt to signal that she was ready.

For this particular hunt Hotaru felt it would be best to let Terra take the lead. Terra was as cunning as a coyote and as strong as a wolf, making her the logical choice to lead their little hunting band. With two wolves on the ground and one in the air their chances of success were good. Red tipped ears flicked as Terra began to move forward. Hotaru quickly flanked the other female and used her ears and nose to follow. Soon the scent of moose drifted towards the wolves and it sent Hotaru's heart racing. A moose! The biggest thing she had ever caught since her injury was a raccoon. A moose was difficult to take down with both eyes working, Hotaru couldn't imagine doing it in her state.

Despite her inner turmoil, Hotaru appeared calm on the outside. Her steps were quiet and she placed them with absolute certainty. Fawkes's wingbeats could be heard high in the air as he circled their prey. If it weren't for his presence, Hotaru might have bolted as soon as she picked up on the moose's scent. The closer they got to the moose the more Hotaru noticed that it had a strange quality to it. The moose was sick, something was wrong with it. Which made it perfect prey for wolves. The blind wolf just preyed that there was something wrong with the bones so that it would be slower than normal.

Without any direction from Terra, Hotaru began to move. She slid through the forest while she made sure that she always remained downwind of their prey. If it caught her scent then it would bolt before either Terra or Hotaru managed to grab onto it. Hotaru wasn't able to circle the moose completely, although she managed to get close. Once she was in position the huntress crouched down and waited for Terra to make the first move.

While the wolves positioned themselves appropriately, Fawkes flew above them and monitored the situation. He watched as the moose grazed in the forest, it's large body hardly moving while it's head searched for anything that was edible. It was completely unaware of the hunter's who had targeted it as prey. His master had moved to the other side of the creature so that she was facing it's front, left shoulder. If the moose tried to run, it would run right past her.

Hotaru moved to Terra's side, giving the coyote the lead. Silently the pair moved as one, their intent on bringing down prey clear. Her ears flicked slightly as a slight hitch appeared in Hotaru. It was nothing much, a brief air of nervousness, before fading away. Terra's ears returned to their forward state, no indication shown of the weakness she had sensed. It was gone, and that was what mattered. The sickness about the moose was easy for Terra to detect. It's head was low, eyes struggling to focus. An easy target. Hotaru separated from Terra, sliding smoothly around to the other side of the moose. Quietly Terra moved beside it.

Driving such a beast would be easy. They would drive it into a narrow space, letting itself get tangled into a place too thick, allowing them to attack and injure it at their leisure until it collapsed. Her tail swished impatiently, waiting for the right moment. The moose took a step, and Terra made her move. Lightly she trotted up, acting as if she didn't have a care in the world. Snorting slightly the moose shied, stepping forward, leaning towards Hotaru. A low yip slipped from her, a brief signal to keep it moving forward. Already Terra was scanning the landscape, looking for where the moose would be driven as she calmly moved beside it, fear slowly building in the creature.

Silently the huntress waited, her multicolored body hidden in the shadow of the the forest. She barely moved, only her ears twisted slightly on her head. Hotaru sat in the darkness as she listened and waited. Slowly, ever so slowly, their prey moved towards her. The rustling of bushes came from across the beast. Terra was making her move. Hotaru's muscles tensed while her mind working in over time as it worked to figure out what the coywolf was planning. Again, the moose moved towards her. This time it's steps were a little rushed and the scent of fear filled the air. Terra's signaling yip was all Hotaru needed to figure out the rest of the puzzle. Drive it forward, herd it. To where, Hotaru didn't know. However, Terra was leading this hunt so Hotaru would follow.

The blind wolf slipped silently through the forest as she worked to get a little closer to the back end of the beast. After a few paces Hotaru's entire demeanor relaxed and she emerged from the bushes. Her movements were slow, almost lethargic. She paced towards the moose and it grunted. Hotaru could hear its breathing increase as the fear built up. The sound of hooves moved away from the canines and Hotaru followed.

Keeping up with the moose was easy. She knew the woods. She had spent hours in them and knew where most of the trees were. Her nose helped her for all the rest. Using her memory and sense of smell, Hotaru was able to successfully navigate through the forest. All the while Fawkes's wing beats could be heard from above. Occasionally he would call down to Hotaru to warn her of an obstacle. A fallen branch, a large dip in the forest, or to alert her if there was too much of a gap between herself and the increasingly terrified moose. Patiently, the grey wolf continued to drive their prey forward as she waited for Terra's signal.

Hotaru's movement to join in was smooth. From a distance it looked like two wolves had just casually decided to go out for a walk with their pet moose. The creature's panic increased greatly with the presence of another, pace slowly picking up. Movement through the forest was easy as Terra slowly guided them into the thicker parts. At times the moos would slow down, picking it's way with more care, only to be driven forward by a yip or snap at it's heels. No longer unable to think clearly it broke into a slow trot. Hungrily Terra kept pace with it, her snaps becoming more frequent.

The undergrowth was getting harder to traverse through. Branches snagged at the large creature's body. Designed for such places Terra slipped through with relative ease. Impatience shone in her eyes as they approached a nice patch up ahead, perfect for trapping the panicked creature. Lunging forward she sank her teeth into the moose's haunch. Panicked it broke into a run, rushing blindly into the trap it hadn't even realized was there. It veered slightly towards Hotaru, Terra making a sharp yap to keep it heading straight. It was theirs now.

With Terra taking the lead and Fawkes assisting her from the air, Hotaru was able to contribute in the hunt. Gradually, the pace of the four animals increased as the moose started to panic more and more. Soon Hotaru had to trot through the forest in order to keep up. Her mind raced as it processed the limited sensory infromation. A heavy smell of bark lead to her swerving to the right in order to avoid a tree. The increased smell of moose and closer steps led to a yip or snap of her jaws. On one such occasion, the scent of moose had become overpowering, leaving Hotaru to believe she had almost bitten the thing.

The longer the chase went on, the thicker the woods became. Terra was leading it towards a trap. She was using its larger and bulkier body to her advantage. Such ingenious ideas were the reason why Hotaru really liked Terra. Branches grabbed at the grey wolf's fur as she rubbed up against them. However, the blind wolf was used to it and it was easy for her to ignore.

A sudden cry of pain rang out and the smell of moose blood filled the air. The moose's steps quickened rapidly into an all out gallop and Hotaru had a difficult time keeping up. More and more calls from Fawkes rang out as Hotaru pushed her way through the woods. Her nose and ears were trained on Terra and the moose as she waited for the opportune time to strike. The smell of moose increased again and Hotaru smashed her jaws together while Terra yipped. Instantly the bushes had become thick and impenetrable for the moose. It was trapped. The sound of snapping branches and increasing smell of blood made Hotaru's heart race as she ducked into the bushes.

Timing was crucial for what Hotaru wanted to do. She needed to get her timing down perfect, or else she could be severely injured. Time seemed to slow down as Hotaru's brain worked a mile a minute. The blind wolf listened carefully to the smashing sounds of branches breaking, and the pounding of hooves against the cold dirt. One, two, three, four. One, two, now! Hotaru lunged forward, her back legs propelled her grey frame up. Her teeth sank into flesh and she held on as tightly as she could. The moose cried out and it's body began to thrash even harder as it tried to shake her off. Hotaru let go when a sharp pain appeared on her front leg. She dropped to the ground and back away for a moment. The wound wasn't bad and would heal in a few days. The blind wolf moved up a little before she lunged again.
