Khaden woke. Simply and utterly, his body jolted him from the relaxed, unconcious state that he had previously taken to erupt into a screeching emittance to the new realm. His heart pulsed erradicaly against his chest, he could hear each individual beat as it thrummed against his hollowed body. The protagonist of slumber, it's dream, had left dizzying spells, forcing the jet black boy attempting to filter out the difference between reality and the faux felt reality. Khaden had been been in the not-so-restful state of slumber, and for some odd reason his whole body propelled himself from the once restful sleep. His heart seemed to slow down with the buffer, each beat slowing down enough that the canine felt as if he no longer needed cardiovascular help. Yawning his angular muzzle in distaste to the overheated snug den that was hastily dug out the night before. He shuddered in the slightest, just waking way of stretching, and peered his bright, jade orbs out to the pitch skies outside.

The morning hadn't even displayed it's brilliant sun as of yet, as it was nothing short of dark. Khaden ruffled his fur, now awake, he was awake, and there was no buts about it. Energy coursed through his body through every single pulse of his heart, pushing blood up and down his system. Starters adrenaline was the serious help though, pushing Khaden to rip himself away from the comfort of the den and into the cold world around him. The problem with adrenaline fresh in the morning - crack of dawn to be precise - was he didn't quite know what to do with it. The boy stretched, shook out all the crunched nerves, muscles and bones that seemed to accumulate over night, but beyond that, he hadn't the slightest of what to do. He paced back and forth, rolling his shoulders and tossing his muzzle this way and that. In a split second reaction though, he knew what to do. His muzzle tilted back, shooting out that black barrel chest as he opened his mouth and let out a howl.

The ebony lady was delighting in laying in a real bed once again, she had to admit she had missed the comfort of the old Syemv house, knowing that she was more or less safe, being able to take the weight off of her weary paws and lay on a cushioned bed, to be out of the drafts and prevailing winds. It saved her having to dig a den. But even with this new found relaxation, the ebony lady was laying awake, trying to find justification for the wilder side of her nature as to why she way laying in a bed and not in a muddy den she had dug herself. Finally she settled on a reason, she was getting to be an older lady and deserved comfort sometimes, besides, she needed to be as close to her wreck of a son as possible, the obsidian lady needed to be there for her eldest boy at this, his greatest time of need. And he did need her here, after all he had been through she supposed he deserved a mother like he had had when he was small, one that would care for him unconditionally and lavish attention on him, and she was more than willing to be her old self for him. It made the pain of having lost his youngest siblings lessen a little, being able to dote on one of her children, she still hoped to seek out Khaden and Dhalia and make amends with them.
After a short while of sleeplessness, of tossing and turning and turning her jade eyes to stare at the bland whitewashed ceiling, the lady rose from her bed. Today she had awoken too early, jolted awake by a dream of Akaro and the loss of their pups and despite her attempts to get back to sleep she could not. Soran stretched lazily, raising her arms high above her head, her fingertips all but brushing the ceiling. Slowly she pulled the old, dusty curtains open and stared through the smudged glass of her window up at the night sky, it was beginning to lighten slightly to the east, but barely so, stars still shone out from the inky black sky. The jade eyed lady stifled a yawn and began to braid her long ebony mane, securing the plait with a strand of brown leather, working through muscle memory, eyes still focused on the land outside of the window, watching the small family of rabbits that were bouncing around the garden. Green eyes focused more sharply on the small creatures bounding around the garden, nibbling nonchalantly at the long strands of summer grass. Without a sound, the ebony lady slipped on her two necklaces, the sharp piece of flint hanging on the leather strand and her more beloved necklace, the silver pentagram from Deuce. She touched each of them fondly before crossing the room in a few long strides and slipping out into the hallway.
She crossed through the dark house quickly and stepped out of the back door into the chilled predawn air. Silently, looping around the garden, she came up behind the innocent, fat little creatures, one of them spotted her and began to run, followed by the rest, all but one, one little creature so engrossed in eating that it did not notice the approaching ebony predator. Quickly, Soran lunged forwards, catching it by the scruff easily, snapping it's slight neck. She padded indoors and left it on the table for Conri, she would get her own breakfast later. Again she stepped out of the house, this time through the front door, she inhaled the cold night air, sniffing at it slightly, enjoying the slight chilled breeze ruffling her dark fur. She let out a lazy yawn and began to walk, unsure where she was going, just exploring in the early morning when she was unlikely to be disturbed, she needed to fill in a mental map of this place if she were to call it home.
Her idea of being undisturbed was soon quashed, Soran's head snapped in the direction of the sudden echoing howl that had broken her reverie and the silence of the early morning. The lady soon began after the sound, long legs covering the distance through the lands with ease. As she went she sniffed the air, the scent, as far as she could tell was familiar, though different, as if she were trying to remember a dream, but it was falling through her fingers, like the sand on the beach had just days before. She sighed softly, but continued on, curious to meet a new packmate, wondering who else she was sharing these lands with, it turned out that Conri was actually the head of this pack, so the lady wondered who had chosen to come and live with her son in the magnificent house that he had found.
Finally she reached the source of the howl, the black male looked, and smelt, so familiar, though she approached him from behind, watching his back cautiously. It couldn't be, surely? Soran was not blessed with enough luck to run into both her sons within the same lands and in the same week no less! It was impossible, but still, the male that stood with his back to her smelt so familiar, even though Soran had barely seen the jade eyed boy all of her life, scent was the most potent stimulator of memory and the scent that emanated from this male made her instantly think of that innocent little pup with the large jade eyes, her son. It was impossible though, wasn't it? Though he would have grown since she had last seen him, she couldn't imagine that he would have gotten this large so quickly.
"Khaden?" She asked cautiously, unsure what she would say either way, if it wasn't him then how could she explain the mistaken identity, this dark wolf would be curious to know who Khaden was and then she would have to explain. But if it was him, how would she be able to explain what she had done to him? How could she apologise for what she had done? She had left him countless times at such a young age, she had no answers, she had been so lost, she couldn't help herself. But how could she tell him that? Though she doubted he'd ever forgive her, even if she managed to find the words to apologise and explain.

It rose to the magnificent zenith, before dropping as if Khaden himself could see how far and how wide his magnificent song could reach. It soared over the Rabbit Lake, drawled against the Symev Beach, a lazily blanketed over the Haven Manor. Clouds of condensation, despite how warm the day might come to unfold emerging from the darker abyss that claimed the skies currently, buffed the atmosphere. Khaden knew he was doing a rude gesture, pushing his sound towards possibly many sleeping packmates, but he couldn't help it. But as he watched and waited, he knew he hadn't awoken anyone, and anyone who had been awake, was not going to come to his attention. He rolled his shoulders, shifting weight from one paw to the next before he turned away from the scenery. Khaden had to find a way to entertain himself before the sun broke over the horizon.

Khaden was less prone to the other half of his luperci side - bi-pedal and whatnot - and severely enjoyed the more canine, wolfish side of his species. He preferred his halfling form immensely, and giving the scene a quick survey once again, he turned around, no longer facing towards the Manor but instead towards the borders. His jade eyes seemed to melt behind a curtain of ebony as he centered his thoughts toward himself and made the shift. His fur lengthened dramatically, uncut and free as it toppled down his chest and spine, brushing wispily at his legs. His face widened, his claws lengthened and retracted as he flexed them, and he could feel the growing of his own fangs.

Letting his stark emerald eyes slit open again, he already felt much better. Facing upwind, he let the soft breeze trickle down his body, letting him absorb all the scents from beyond the borders of Twilight Vale. He smiled softly to himself, and lifted a forepaw to rub his face before gearing himself for a nice run. It was, of course, then where he heard his name, and in a flash he whirled around. His haunches raised, claws out and ready, his body tensed and pushed for a fight. He caught full sight of the femme afore him - older, much older than most of the wolves he had already met. His brows furrowed, disregarding any uncanny sixth sense that bugged at his defense and cocked his head. "Who are you?" He demanded, watching the bi-pedal luperci. "Why do you know my name?"
OOC:// She's not that old you cheeky thing XD... Not quite 5 yet, though I did get very confused the other day when I realised that she used to be a bouncy little thing who wasn't much bigger than a pup and now she's this middle aged woman XD Also: 847 words I apologise for the rambling.

The dark lady suddenly had a moment, wondering what on earth she was doing, approaching a potential complete stranger, a large complete stranger at that. Of course she remembered that this would either be a packmate and then would be civil at least as was the general practice between packmates, or they would be an intruder, in which case she had every right to speak to them and ask them their business here, and if needs be, escort them from the lands. Still in the split second it took for the male to turn around she wondered if she had made a mistake, after all what were the chances of Khaden being here along with Conri, life had never been that kind to her, and she doubted that it ever would be. Knowing that both her boys were live and well, knowing that she could try to make amends with them, that was one luxury that life would not give her, life was a cruel winding road, it was never easy to travel, in fact the small pockets of happiness in her life seemed only to have been allowed to her to make the sting of a tragedy even more potent. Life only let he be happy when it was planning on taking something away from her.
When the ebony male before her turned around rapidly, two things were confirmed to the dark lady, firstly, this was likely to be Khaden, if the scent that was so familiar and yet so forgotten hadn't been an indicator, then this male's eyes would be, the jade hue was so similar to that of Conri's eyes, of Soran's own eyes, a smile almost pulled at the corners of her mouth, but she restrained it. The second thing that was confirmed was that she had indeed made a mess of this kid, he didn't even remember her, and the way his jade eyes that were so like her own snapped with fire and the way his body tensed as if ready to launch himself at her indicated that he was not happy to see her at all. Soon enough the male did confirm that he was the obsidian fae's son by answering to his name, then the dark female could not prevent the smile forming on her lips, she raised a hand to cover it. But it would not be stifled, she could not force her face back into a neutral expression, the knowledge that she had two living, breathing sons was too delightful.
Khaden had indeed grown, he was much larger than Soran had expected, then again, she had forgotten how much time had passed, she had expected him to be the small black bundle that she had abandoned the last time she had been here. She had wished that she would find him as the tiny mewling newborn, lying beside his equally tiny sister, that she could start over with the pair of them, make amends, be the mother that they had deserved, that they had missed out on. The slender lady watched her son, the way his hackles raised the glare on his face, the long curved claws that peeked out from his toes. She trembled slightly looking at him then, he was an imposing sight, the lady curled a long finger around a loose dark curl that had escaped her braid and watched him cautiously, thinking of how to phrase her reply.
For a moment the dark lady almost didn't tell him, she wondered if life would be better, easier if Khaden never knew that she was his mother, but that was not an option, he would run into Conri soon enough and chances were that the dark fae would be looking after her red son and he would mention to Khaden that she was his mother. No, that was not an option. Besides, the dark lady did not want to lie to the boy who looked so like her, his eyes were so like hers, and he was her only child who shared her jade pelt, though he seemed to be growing to the same size as her own father, in that case he would be a large wolf, and powerful, so powerful. The jade eyed wolfess wanted the truth to be known, she hadn't come all this way to walk away from her youngest son, she wanted the chance to redeem herself, she needed to grab the opportunity that she was certain life would never give her. Soran should, and would make amends, she knew that, she could understand if Khaden didn't want to know her, if he couldn't forgive her, but that didn't mean that she wouldn't apologise, over and over if needs be.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, but which had, in reality, been the merest moment, Soran finished her musing and decided on a reply to give the dark boy standing before her. She dipped her head for a moment, before moving her gaze back into the powerful half-shifted wolf's eyes.
"My name is Soran, Soran Aatte... I'm your mother."
sorry about this long wait. x_x; wc: 383

Perhaps Khaden shouldn't be so suspicious of every single even that unfolded afore him for it wasn't as if he was in alien lands, filled with loners and scoundrels. No, he was amongst his pack, in the territory of Twilight Vale. He was with his beloved brother, his sister-in-law. He was with trust-worthy and dutiful wolves who meant no harm, just wanting to be apart of the pack. Despite these claims, Khaden found himself paranoid. Not just due to habit, and the fact that the majority of his life seemed to be in place without borders, where the insane and convict roamed free, although that played a large part of it. The whole reason that Khaden was back in Bleeding Souls, near his brother was reason enough to be a little bit on the leery side.

So it was no surprise to him that he reacted the way he did - he reacted the same way with anyone that approached him from behind. Sometimes, in the case of Ember, he felt apologetic about it, but if intentions were genuine, than Khaden was used to apologizing and getting over it. And this was no exception. Except, this was a different case altogether. He watched as she surveyed him, and before she could say the words he knew. Conri had told him on the borders, when he embraced his brother and became claimed himself back in the Twilight Vale pack. Those green eyes, that black pelt he knew were identical to his own and he pushed his eyes downward.

She spoke, her words dramatic and severe, and Khaden's disposition fell. His features shaped into an apathy as he averted his eyes in obligation to the phantom of respect. His pelt smoothed out as he shrugged the tensions out of his shoulders. "Right." He responded to her words, his weight being shifted to one side to the next. "Well, sorry about that. I'm not quite used to being in a pack." He hesitated, looking back into those twin jade orbs and gave a half smile. "Well, I guess I'll be seeing you around Soran." And he turned, ready to leave and continue with his life as if it was some old acquaintance that he saw in passing - because, in reality, it truly was.

No worries on the late reply SmileSmile Also word count: 546 words.

push it inThe ebony lady waited in the silence, her heart pounding inside her chest, the panic about how her son would take this news gripping her. She did not mind the way her heart jumped erratically with each moment that past, at least it was still beating, reminding her that she was indeed still alive and was not meeting her son in the afterlife. It was so odd seeing him now, he had gotten so big since the ebony lady had allowed her jade eyes to fall upon him last, then he had been just a small pup, still tripping over his paws he was that small, it had been an age since she had last seen him. She realised that he was nearing a year old now, she could barely remember his birth, she had been too struck with trauma and too filled with alcohol to really be able to have any memories of her smallest pups being born, the only thing she really had was the pair that had survived who she barely knew and the nagging sensation that something terrible had happened, something that she could never be forgiven for. The latter was the reason the ebony fae tried to think of the birth of her second litter, she had no idea what had occurred, but she was almost sure that loosing her most recent litter of pups before they had even been born had been punishment for whatever it was had happened, whatever she had done.

push it inPart of the reason that she had come back here was that she had lost her youngest babes before they had even been born, awaking in a pool of blood and in horrid pain. That had reminded her that she had living, healthy pups here, pups who still deserved a mother, someone to care for them. Though she supposed that if she had had her pups, she would have brought them here in time, when they were old enough to have made the journey to the 'Souls lands she would have brought them here, she would have wanted them to meet their older siblings. The lady felt instantly more guilty for not having been around for her younger pups, for Khaden and Dhalia, true they had disappeared and Soran had gone to search for them for a while, but she had not searched hard enough, she had not found them, she could have done so much more, she could have been a mother to them, and now it seemed it was too late.

push it inSoran simply nodded at Khaden's apology, she attempted to reply to him, to tell him that it was no trouble whatsoever, that it was already forgiven, he couldn't be to blame for a nervous reaction, but the words got caught somewhere in her throat, she was unable to even open her mouth, her jaw wouldn't open and allow any sound out. It wasn't until the ebony male said his goodbyes and turned to leave that Soran was able to find her voice, “No,” she whined, instantly horrified by how pathetic she'd sounded in just that single word, "please don't go, I want to talk to you." She finished, managing to regain control over her voice, making it sound much more clear and in control.

apologies. Have been sorta in this weird inspiration twist. D:

Her rejection of his polite goodbye truly confused Khaden as he turned to face Soran. Her words, pleading and wanting left Khaden in an awkward position, and he had no idea how to maneuver about the intricate and delicate threads of the social situation. He watched her, a female duplicate of himself, and found himself cautiously picking his way back into this weird little social circle. He didn't know how to deal with Soran and her weird peek-a-boo games, and honestly could not really decide what he really wanted to do.

"What..." He started, his brows furrowed and shuffling his weight from one foot to the next. "What do you want to talk to me about?" You never cared before. Was a thought that instantaneously sprung from his mind, but he neglected it immediately. To have thoughts like that was to admit that he, himself, was concerned over the situation, and in no way, shape, or manner was he. He had no parents, just himself and his experiences out on the open road to shape him to who he was today. No one could stake claim to his upbringing, and the more detached he was, the better case he had against anyone who would deny him that credit.

But in the end it didn't matter, and Khaden shrugged it off, loftily, apathetically, with that forced quirky smile and easy nature. "Sorry, I really do have to go now." And like that, he turned and left.
