Seeing Selene so broken, so vulnerable, was scary. Hadley couldn't do much to change the past, the worry and pain she'd suffered already part of her. Maybe though, just maybe, he could find a way to keep it from ever coming back. He would train, and grow stronger, and be able to keep others from harming her. With that in mind Hadley set out. He just needed to figure out how to actually do that now. Without any training, and being a non violent person, he had absolutely no idea where to start.

Thinking carefully Hadley wandered out into the woods, finding a place where no one else was. He didn't want to accidentally hurt anyone, and being caught making a fool of himself seemed very unattractive. It seemed he was in the clear. Taking a deep breath Hadley picked up a large stick, and pretended to strike forward at an enemy. His balance was horrendous, the stick looking like it was being used to poke at someone. Hadley felt rather please though, and repeated the move.

Fritz felt rather good from teaching the little one, Adelle, how to get started with fighting and then being able to play with some of his packmates in their feral forms. Granted he was still larger than most of them, if not all of them. But by now he was rather used to being so huge compared to everyone else. It didn’t bother him as much as it did but he still felt bad for others.

He really like it in Casa di Cavalieri but needed to get away from Fort Kingsbury for a while. He needed to know what the territory was like so he could defend it better and he sometimes needed to stretch his legs. Sometimes being in one area caused him to go a bit stir-crazy, which was one reason why he liked being a mercenary. They moved around a lot and saw a lot of action.

So he was in the forest of his new pack when he saw a tall male trying to use a large stick to attack an imaginary enemy. The man was obviously not trained to fight but he could see that he had the potential to be at least decent at it. He did have the fire and drive to fight but lacked the skills to do so. So he strode forward and cleared his throat softly, or at least for him. It was still rather rumble-y. ”Do you need any help there, my friend?” He was polite but friendly and truly wanted to help him.

What sounded like a growl echoed from one end of the clearing. Jumping Hadley immediately dropped the stick. Spinning around he pushed himself into a submissive form, hoping that whoever it was wouldn't be mad. After all, slaves weren't allowed to have weapons. He wasn't supposed to wander off. He could be punished...

Clearing his thoughts Hadley pushed that aside. He wasn't a slave anymore. He didn't need to fear that. Mentally he gathered his courage, though on the outside there was no visible change, Hadley still standing as submissive as before, if slightly less fearful. He looked up at the large spotted male before him. Hadley eyed him, taking in the well built muscles to the sharp green eyes that seemed to pick up everything around them. It took longer for the question to filter through to his brain.

Embarrassed Hadley nodded his head softly. Wanted to...to be able to defend. In case something happens. It felt strange saying that, making him duck his head down. He almost wondered if what he was doing was wrong, considering how it was something he'd never truly felt the desire for. Hadley simply didn't care for the idea of hurting others.

Fritz didn’t realize what the clearing of his throat would do but when he saw that it caused the other male to drop into a submissive stance. He remembered seeing him at the mentor meeting and had seen him around but had no idea what his name was. ”Sorry, sir. I didn’t mean to startle you.” He was truly apologetic for startling him.

But his smile turned a little amused at the way that the shorter man was looking at him. Fritz listened to his request and nodded. ”That’s a good reason to learn to protect those that you love.” It was better than his reason for learning to fight. But he was the one who had been part of a mercenary group and fought to make a living.

But there were a few things that he needed to do first. ”But, first: Names! I’m Fritz Earl. What might yours be?” He held out his hand for Hadley to shake. Part of the reason was to be polite but another was to see if Hadley trusted him to not hurt him. It was vital for the shy, unsure man to be able to know that Fritz didn’t want to hurt him and really wanted to help him.

Hadley shook his head softly at the apology. There was no need for such a thing. Hadley was the one who had overreacted, jumping far too much. It would have amused Amy deeply to see Hadley like that. He always knew where she was though. He needed to. Dropping his guard was far too frightening to even consider. In the pack he felt safer, which meant he was a lot more jumpy when surprised. It would be a long time before that stopped.

Relief flooded through him as the large dog agreed that it was a good reason for his actions. If the dog agreed Hadley surely wasn't in trouble, and could keep on trying. He lacked the aptitude for it, but Hadley still wanted to be able to do something. Even if it was as simple as being able to use a stick to keep others at a distance. He looked at the outstretched hand gingerly. Carefully he grasped it to shake, a little worried at the touch. Hadley.

OOC: Sorry about the wait Smile

IC: The smaller male seemed extremely shy and unsure of himself. He also seemed to be not very trusting. Although he lost the extreme submission, he was still uneasy with Fritz. But he did accept Fritz’s apology. He had to wonder if the other male was always this jumpy. It was rather amusing but sad at the same time. Fritz only hoped that he would get over at some point.

The other male introduced him as Hadley and Fritz grinned, green eyes friendly. He said, ”It’s a pleasure to meet you Fritz. How long have you been in Casa di Cavalieri?” He was polite but also wanted to make the jumpy male a lot more comfortable. Of course he wouldn’t tell Hadley why he left England, which would terrify the poor male to know that Fritz had killed a lot of people.

So Fritz wisely refrained from say that. He did ask, ”Is there a particular person that you want to protect?” He searched for a long sturdy stick and picked one up, testing it for balance. This wasn’t the type of weapon he used but he had learned how to use it. ”Are you ready to begin?” He casual twirled it around.

Fidgeting a little Hadley nodded at the greeting. Asked how long he'd been there Hadley gazed at the ground. A couple weeks... It hadn't been long, but he was already beginning to heal. Granted, he'd been forced to leave his room, or else he would have stuck in there for who knows how long without venturing out. That push had been all it had taken though, and he had met Selene. The small hybrid had wormed her way past his guard, giving him a fierce drive to protect her.

It had helped him make the choice to become more active in the pack, seeking out places where he could serve so they wouldn't throw him out. It had made him less skittish, though the submission had remained. Most amazing of all, it had driven the least violent creature imaginable to choose to try and learn how to defend so he could protect her. S-Selene... Glancing up his eyes widened slightly at the suddenly deadly air around the dog. No, he had to be imagining it. Nodding his head Hadley bent down, picking up his own stick again and gripping it tightly.

OOC: Sorry about the wait Sad

IC: Hadley was fidgeting and Fritz could only assume that it was simply something that he did and not that the man was bored with Fritz already. It would be rather disappointing if that was the case since Fritz didn’t think that he was all that boring. But Hadley did answer his question of how long he had been there and Fritz nodded. "I've been here only two or so weeks so you beat in length of being here." Which Fritz didn’t really mind. Someone had to be the new kid so why not him.

Fritz grinned when Hadley said the name of the girl he wanted to protect, not knowing that before too long, he'd be helping her heal from Hadley's actions. But right now, he saw a man wanting to protect his loved one and would willingly help him do that. So he gave an amused grin at the look on Hadley's face when he twirled the stick nonchalantly. "Hadley, I'm going to attack you and see how well you react, OK?" He didn’t give him a chance to answer before Fritz rushed at him, stick ready to swing towards Hadley, not that it would a hard whack but it would teach him a point.

Hadley didn't know that it was an attempt to comfort him, just knowing that they were different. The fact that Fritz had arrived after Hadley meant nothing to the large hybrid, just knowing that the male was superior to him, someone to listen to and respect. He glanced up, confusion on his face from the amused grin. He hadn't done anything funny, had he? He'd just been keeping to himself, really. The stick spun around, and Hadley tightened his grip, holding on for dear life.

Told that he was going to be attacked wasn't exactly the most useful thing he could have been told. He nodded his head sharply, holding still and trying to be prepared. Fritz rushed forward, the stick swinging over. Hadley yelped, dropping the stick. He lifted his arms, catching the blow with them. It wasn't a hard hit, but it still startled him. Wide eyed he looked over to Fritz, hoping that he hadn't just completely messed up on his attempts to defend.
