We talked about doing this a little while ago, but I didn't have the chance to start until now. I'm hoping it's ok to say this takes place shortly after the end of the festival because I don't think Orin could have kept her secret from the pack for very long (nor would I want her to).

Orin had a secret.

A secret that she couldn’t keep for much longer, nor did she want to. When she first returned from the festival grounds after the merchants dispersed she was able to cover up her real bounty thanks to the piglet and other treasures she brought home. But the real fortune that she had brought home had been too frail and delicate to reveal right away. Orin had been at odds with herself from the start; she couldn’t trust anyone else with the gem she had found, but she wasn’t entirely secure with bringing it back to Cercatori d’Arte, either, in light of the pack’s current “plight.” But this was it, there was no more hiding what she had found in the wilderness that day. Too much time would pass. For now she could explain herself, but if she waited much longer this could be seen as an act of disloyalty… keeping this kind of secret from her pack.

Moving through the barn, her footfalls were nearly silent beneath the sounds of the various animals. D’Arte’s stock had grown abundant, including many sheep, chickens, Soraya the Cow, and the as yet unnamed piglet Orin had brought home. Yet for once, this morning, it wasn’t to the animals that she moved. Now she walked to the open area, a place in which just a little while ago she had changed out soiled straw for a fresh bed of hay, and looked down at the bright gray face that smiled up at her.

“Are you ready, pigeon?” She asked the pup, whose body was half masked in the straw. She had taken to burrowing in the hay as some sort of game. A sharp bark and then her toes were being nipped at was all the response she needed.

When she found the puppy she had been on the brink of death. Now, in just a few days’ time, she was vibrant and strong again, although still a little thin; Soraya’s milk had helped a lot, and the fact that the puppy was old enough for meat helped too.

“Come on,” she said and held her arms open. She didn’t have to do much but catch the flying puppy as Sarian leaped into her arms. Sometimes she was hard to keep hold of, just like now, as she wriggled in her grasp as Orin headed out of the barn and down the Thornbury row.

It wasn’t long before she was at that all too familiar doorstep; Skye’s house. She loved her Capitana but today her heart beat in her chest as if trying to burst out. She couldn’t knock while holding the child, so she set Sarian down and rapped on the door.

“Skye? Are you home? I’ve got something to tell you…” she spoke softly through the door, not wanting to alert anyone who might be in the area as to her antics. Yet just after the last knock sounded Sarian bolted, taking off after god knows what down the row.

“Sarian! No! Wait! Come back here, right now!” And Orin ran after her, consequently doorbell ditching her own alpha.

The female was, coincidentally, in her home as the white woman tapped upon her door. Dropping her current activity, the alpha female walked to the door, recognizing the voice that floated into her house as Orin's. Vaguely hoping that it was not a plea to cast away Taliesin again, she opened the door, expecting to see Orin's strikingly white fur contrasting against the deep earthy colors of Thornbury, ready to tell her alpha something seemingly important.

However, as she swung open the door, her perked ears caught the last words of a shouting Orin as she ran away from the female's porch. Skye glanced to where she was running and caught a glimpse of whatever she may have been chasing after - at first it seemed like a little furry animal, perhaps a large rabbit or even a small sheep or goat; however, the flash that she caught was too small to be able to recognize whatever it was that she saw.

"Orin, what is going on?" she asked, taking a few steps away from her porch and looking curiously at the woman; "What are you chasing?!"

Jogging down the row after the hyper child, Orin practically forgot she had been taking her to Skye’s house to begin with, so when she heard the voice behind her she nearly jumped with surprise. Turning around, she saw her creamy colored Capitana standing a few paces in front of her house, staring at her, perplexed. Orin had stopped in her tracks, so Sarian darted off around a corner and out of Orin’s sight.

“Wait right here, Skye, I’ll be right back. She’s getting away!” She yelped and pointed at nothing, then whipped around and disappeared around the corner.

The funniest part of it all was that at this point, Sarian was only running because Orin was chasing, and if she hadn’t pursued the pup she would tire out and come back eventually. But instead of noting that, Orin followed her around a building, down the back alley, and into what would be the back yard of Skye’s house. “Sarian! Stop this, right now! We have to do something important!” But the puppy only giggled mirthfully, and ran around to the front of the leader’s house again.

Orin popped out of the side, almost growing winded. She was thin and in shape, but chasing a rambunctious puppy on four legs when she was on two was still tough work. Sarian leaped up onto Skye’s porch and declared; “Base!” then promptly flopped over on her side, tongue lolling out of her mouth. Orin halted, looked at Skye, and realized that the chase had just come back where they started. Oh, the irony. Sarian was such a clever little girl.

With a hand on her side and her maw parted in a pant, trying to cool off, she walked over to Skye. “Well, I wanted you to…” she was breathy, but catching it quickly. By the time she was back at Skye her breaths were deep but no longer ragged. “…meet Sarian.” She motioned toward the puppy who was laying on the porch, her head hanging over the edge now, eyes transfixed on something on the ground.

“She is…” she suddenly remembered herself and glanced around. “Can we talk inside?”

Skye simply watched, slightly confused, as Orin yelled at her to stay there and then began to chase whatever it was that she was chasing. She stood there for a few moments before the thing - now identifiable as.. a puppy? - ran back around and ended up at the front porch, where she promptly flopped down and called out 'base!'.

She looked up to Orin, who was panting and out of breath from running after the puppy. Despite the odd situation, Skye had to suppress a laugh - the high-energy puppy running away from Orin, with Orin now out of breath, was quite the funny sight, at least to the creamy alpha female. Smiling, she listened to what Orin had to say - she wanted her to meet Sarian, hm? She glanced down at the puppy, who now was staring, transfixed, at something on the ground.

She looked back to Orin as she seemed to catch her breath and righted herself. At her request to talk inside, she nodded curtly and opened the door to her house, sweeping her arm forward and indicating that Orin can come inside as well. She looked at the puppy with warm eyes, and although she questioned her origin - Orin hadn't been pregnant as far as she could tell, and the puppy didn't look too much like her - it did not stop her from being happy at the sight of the young wolf. "Come inside, too, Sarian," she said warmly.
