Crappy post… >.<

It was the good kind of weather to go visiting the shoreline. Rio had been waiting for a while to go around the sea lines because she felt that she met the most intriguing ones by the sea. Today, she didn’t have a purpose, only to escape the usually scenery of the lands around her pack. She brought with her a few bags of herbs she planned to sort out and fit into little packs to distribute to maybe Caprica and others. Why not explore herbs now? Even before she made it her main purpose in the pack.

Getting to the shoreline didn’t take long at all. She arrived at a good spot in the time of a few hours. She plopped down her bag next to a nice smooth rock she planned to sit on, since the actual shore was littered with small, sharp, pointy rocks that probably wouldn’t be too fun to sit on. The rock she picked was big enough for her to sit and spread out what she needed to in front of her. So, she plopped her rump down on the farthest end, and pulled out a medium-sized bag of a few Arnica flowers and roots she had collected earlier in the week. She had smaller cloth pouches piled on the side and she took some of the roots and stuffed them inside one of the little pouches. The pouches she had were different colors, and she planned to color code each different herb she carried with her today. She kept busy muttering to herself, ”Arnica flower… pain reliever…” Her mind was all into what she was doing.

When she was done sorting the Arnica flowers and roots, she moved to the second bag of herbs. She reached into the bag she set aside on the ground a pulled out some ginseng root. Putting the small, navy cloth pouches aside, she reached for some hunter green ones and began putting ginseng root into them while muttering to herself, ”Ginseng root… good for energy…” She hadn’t gotten to her drug stash yet.

Thank you for starting! Hope you don't mind that mr. npc Ren's tagging along? He can interject if things get awkward, haha.

It had been Ren’s idea to head to the beach that day, though she had to admit, the desire to see the waves and smell the salt on the breeze was with her too. The pair had managed to make it to the outskirts of the old city in their travels the day before. Much to Lucia’s satisfaction, their time in Nova Scotia had been rather uneventful so far. The feeling of dread that had plagued her first few days back was beginning to dissipate now. No sign of anyone familiar, and she hoped it would stay that way. Renato had even stopped pestering her about it; it seemed the scenery was enough to distract the fisherman for now.

A familiar shoreline was on the horizon, waves lazily lapping at the sands. The travelers moved at a casual pace, in no hurry to reach their destination. As usual, the Marino woman’s guitar case and leather bag were slung over one shoulder. Ren’s old cloak was still draped over his shoulders to ward off the chill he was unused to, his own bag of belongings held easily in one hand. The rocky shore ahead was a welcome sight for another easy day. But the dark rocks were not the only things awaiting them on the sands. A darkly hued wolf sat sorting through something on the beach. When the low breeze brought more to them than just the scent of the ocean, Lucia realized that she knew this person. And knew her well.

The pale-furred wolf’s steps came to a halt and she reached out for her partner’s arm to pull him to a stop as well. The fisherman’s blue eyes turned to her, though Lucia was fully focused on the figure not far ahead. Thankfully, Ren remained silent this time. The look on her face must have said it all. Had it been any other member of her family, she may have turned around and bolted on the spot. Despite all the feelings of resentment she had cultivated over the years, Rio was the only one who was still associated with fond memories of childhood. “Luci,” he whispered to her, finally managing to get her to pull her attention from the woman on the beach. He wasn’t going to let her run from this even if she’d wanted to. She was putting forth an effort to keep her anger at bay, and all that seemed to accomplish was to replace it with fear.

It's fine Big Grin

Rio stayed busy with her roots, not noticing that she had company. The others’ scents were down wind, and it was slightly lucky for them. The wind had picked up since she had been there, and she began to put the finished bags away in the bigger bag that she originally brought everything in. The arnica flower and ginseng roots were all sorted. When she bent down to get the stash of Shrooms she had been saving for last, she felt that she was being watched. ”You’re not going to scare me this time,” she called out to whoever was behind her. When she safely secured the baggy of Shrooms between a crack in the rock, she looked behind her.

There was a white femme and another canine standing some ways away from her. The canine with the fishing gear brought no interest in her, however, the other looked very familiar to her. With their scent being down wind, she couldn’t scent her in the air. Rio’s long black hair blew forward on her shoulders as she climbed off of her rock. She looked back at her working station one last time to make sure nothing was going to blow away before she curiously started toward the pair. The familiarity in the light colored female took her usual fear of others and threw it out the window, if there was one. Rio felt like she knew her and wasn’t afraid.

She neared the two, now able to see facial features better. The fisherman looked nothing like anyone she had seen before, but when her eyes travelled to the other, her heart leapt into her throat. This fae looked almost exactly like her other sister…

”Lucia?” She wanted to run up to the wolfess and throw her arms around her, but then again, she didn’t. Every sister that had returned, returned with something on their mind. Caprica returned with wanting to make a difference, Rio returned with Harlowe on the brain… and Lucia looked as if something was troubling her. Rio wondered what it was.

OOC here!

Her sister’s sudden words startled her. Lucia didn’t think they had been noticed, and she was caught up in trying to figure out how she wanted to proceed. During their entire trip back to her homeland, she had convinced herself that this whole endeavor was going to end in disaster. There were so many ways this could turn awry and very few ways for it to go right. But there was no more putting off the inevitable.

The woman still maintained a hold on her companion’s arm, and upon being spotted her grip tightened, nails beginning to dig into his flesh. Dutifully, Ren did not protest, and simply continued to give his silent support. As her sibling approached, jade eyes flashed toward the fisherman. “I can’t do this.” Her words were barely above a whisper; she didn’t want to be overheard, and more importantly, she couldn’t trust her voice to not betray the true depths of her fear. Still the fisherman remained silent, but his blue eyes conveyed his support.

Her name was tentatively called, snapping her attention back to the dark-furred woman before them. So she hadn’t been completely forgotten by her family after all. She would be lying if she said she didn’t want the opposite. But out of all her siblings, Rio would be the one to remember her, wouldn’t she? The demure girl had been the last to leave her, the only one who really seemed to enjoy spending time with her as they grew out of their puppy phase.

The wind picked up, filling in the gaps of silence that hung heavily between them. Lucia studied her for a moment now that she had moved closer. She seemed in good health, and perhaps still as kindly as ever, though it was too early to tell. And despite herself, Lucia began wondering what had happened to her in all the time that they’d been separated. “Rio,” she finally replied once she’d gotten a handle on the roiling torrent of feelings that plagued her. “So you’ve returned as well.” A coolly delivered observation, at odds with the curiosity the sandy-furred woman was beginning to feel. Rio was here, Luci was here. What about Caprica, Harlowe, their mother? Or were they the only ones foolish enough to return to this soulless place?

PP on the hug, hope it’s okay Smile [WC: 305 :: Points: 3]

It took a moment for Rio to register that her sister had recognized her, too. She studied the almost adult figure of a girl she last saw as a pup. Her awkward puppy features grew into a beautiful female, one who would make gorgeous pups of her own someday. As soon as Lucia’s voice reached Rio’s ears, Rio murmured, possibly even inaudible to Lucia, ”Yes, I have…” She was encouraged enough to know that this truly was her sister, and it gave her the ‘ok’ to run towards her, like a nutcase, with her arms outstretched.

Once she reached the two, she grabbed Lucia in a tight hug, inescapable until she was done. Then she let go, and backed away from the two, giving them space. ”Oh my… You’re so beautiful!” She pushed hair from her eyes, and continued to check her sister’s new form out. ”Mom and Caprica will be so happy to see you… Where have you been?” Each of the siblings, and even Naniko, had their own stories and excuses of why they left and what went on while they left. Caprica wouldn’t share much of her story, and Rio wondered if Lucia would share any of hers. She wanted to know what happened to her favorite sister, while the years passed.

Rio almost totally forgot about Lucia’s friend, who she totally, and rudely, ignored for the first few seconds. She turned to the canine beside her, who Lucia had the death grip on. She dipped her head toward him in a silent greeting, so that she wouldn’t come off as completely rude. She really didn’t care who he was, but she should have because he seemed to have a good relationship with Lucia. She would probably need to get to know him in the future, but right now was not the future.

Of course. :]

Suddenly she found herself on the receiving end of an incredibly heartfelt hug. The Marino woman tensed at the touch of her sister, throwing a startled glance over the dark woman’s shoulder to Renato. The fisherman did nothing but grin at her in response, watching the pair with clear amusement. There was a smugness there in that grin of his as well, and Lucia knew that he must be inwardly patting himself on the back for being right about coming all the way out here. And damn it all, the feel of her sibling’s arms around her and the familiar scent that sent her reeling back to childhood days did seem to have a relaxing effect on her. But before she could properly respond to the gesture, her sister relinquished her tight hold on her and stepped back.

Mom and Caprica. So they were here. Did they all just decide to show up when it was convenient? Done with whatever journey they had cavorted off to in the first place, were they? Lucia felt that familiar agitation stirring within her once again. She was beginning to realize that she had been hoping that she wouldn’t find any of them here for more than just a desire to avoid seeing them again. If they had all come back and fallen into things as if they had never been away, if they were all together, living life as an insufferably happy family unit, she didn’t know if she would be able to take it. Because it would mean that they didn’t need her. They probably never had.

And from the sound of things, that could very well be what had happened. Jade eyes studied Rio once more as Lucia tried to summon up an answer to her question without snapping at her in response.

“Away,” she finally said, a short and clipped response. Her resolve to remain stubborn faltered somewhat as she stared into her sister’s periwinkle gaze. Rio, at least, deserved better than that. Lucia sighed and began to elaborate, fiddling with the strap of her guitar case. “I went across the ocean.” The Marino-D’Angelo litter had been raised on their father’s stories of his life in Europe, and now Lucia had experienced it for herself. And counting down the days until I return.

’Away.’ Rio was prepared to answer with a ‘haven’t we all..’, but wasn’t able as Lucia quickly elaborated. ”Over the sea? What was it like?!” She’s heard stories, many of her childhood, and some others. It was probably very different from these lands, maybe even a little classier, or a lot classier. She couldn’t even begin to imagine what it really was like.

”I was actually kidnapped by coyotes when I first left…” It was a confusing experience, even for her still. She wasn’t exactly sure how she felt about that, and didn’t remember everything as she pushed it out of her mind for a long while. ”…but I escaped, obviously, and roamed around on my own for a while. I met a few interesting wolves on the way..” She was aware she was volunteering information that she wasn’t sure her sister wanted to hear… Well, she was going to hear it anyway, ”…but something always felt like it was pulling me back after about a year ago. I knew I had to return, and so I did. I first found Mom, and then Caprica came about after.”

She could almost feel Lucia’s tension in the air, and she cocked her head and looked at her, ”What’s wrong, sis?” Rio came back with a vengeance, only to find out it was pointless because Harlowe had been killed, and then later found that he was useless to be mourning over. He obviously scarred her for the most part, whether they had a good relationship or not while he was alive, but she couldn’t help care about him. Caprica had helped her see the light, and now she doesn’t mourn his tainted soul anymore. She doesn’t even think about him anymore, except for right now. Rio was sure Caprica came back with some kind of negativity on her mind, but what did she expect? We were all continuing our lives somewhere else anyway… Whether it be here or miles away, each and every child of Momma’s was on her mind..

The question brought up memories of her time in Rome, all that time spent playing and working and flirting in the Basilisk tavern, and the subsequent days lingering around the docks with Renato when he wasn’t working. “It’s a lot better than this place,” she said flatly. Lucia may have been born and raised here amongst the sparsely populated wilderness, but she had quickly grown to love city life. "Papa's stories of the place were more than just tall tales, it seems."

Rio had experiences of her own during their time separated, and the first words out of her mouth were a shock. Lucia's eyes widened, ears flattening against her skull. Kidnapped? That... that changed things. That sting of abandonment was lessened by this cruel working of fate. But as her sibling said, she'd clearly escaped, and seemed none the worse for it. "...I'm glad you're okay." Honest, simple words. And how surprisingly easy they were to say.

Her dark-furred sibling had picked up on her unease, and Lucia hesitated momentarily at the question. She didn't want to get into it, not now. Talking about it would only make her agitation worse. Jade eyes drifted toward the sea shore, watching the waves lap against the sands. "It's... It's nothing. I'm just not all that eager to be here. You can thank him for this cheery reunion," she said, nodding to the fisherman. Renato remained silent, though his face lit up with a smile when he was pointed out. Lucia was surprised by his silence; usually the timber wolf was eager to leap into conversations.

Truth be told, this whole meeting was going better than expected, and Lucia was slowly beginning to calm herself down as their conversation continued. Something was missing though. "What about Harlowe?" she asked. Here Rio was, and mother and Caprica had been explained, but there had been no mention of their brother. What could have happened to Lucia's quiet twin in all this time?

OOc. [WC: 327 || Points: 3]

All the thoughts that rushed into her mind about this city Lucia was talking about; the one that their father had told them about when they were pups- she wanted to go visit it, now. She thought about the living there- there must have been better conditions than Souls’ lands. Maybe the buildings stayed up better than these buildings did. Some held up quite nicely, but others crumbled at the first strong gust of wind from a storm. The picture in her mind showed pretty, decorated buildings with sculpted creatures looming off of the sides and the sun always shining. It seemed like a nice place to her, and she was kind of jealous that Lucia got to see it and she didn’t.

Rio’s head turned toward her sibling’s friend, who beamed at the mention of him. She smiled lightly back at him, but everyone remained quiet. Rio turned back to Lucia and gave her an even bigger smile, ”It’s okay, sis. Things are usually awkward at first.” Rio could see her sister getting into a pack and starting her life here again, just like all her relatives that had come back have.

Lucia’s mention of Harlowe dimmed Rio’s mood slightly. She tried to keep him as far away from her thoughts as possible, but it seems that such actions were impossible when reconnecting with others from his time. ”He’s dead.” She said it plainly. Not that Rio was happy he was gone, but she didn’t have to live in constant worry that he would come back to her for another round of incest. ”I’ve heard that he tried to attack someone’s pup, and Mom was there, and she let whoever the pup’s father was kill him right in front of her.” Her information wasn’t the best, but it was the ‘gist’ of the story. If Lucia wanted more information on Harlowe’s death, she could always ask Naniko. She wouldn’t get any better information than with her.
