ethereal eclipse

The air was cold, but dry and still. Blaise was warm in her blanket on the front porch, watching Zargo slink toward the orchard. She was very comfortable, protected from the chill in the plush, faux-fur fabric, but she couldn't stop staring up at the cloudless sky and thinking about the cat as he darted into the trees. It was still early. She would have the rest of the day to lie in her blanket, and perhaps then more Dreamers would be around, and Zargo would have returned from whatever he was off doing.

The gray girl removed herself from her cocoon and shifted into her Optime form. It was a long, uncomfortable effort, but she needed the practice. And, she wanted to find a place to sit and draw. Blaise picked up her notebook and hugged it to her chest, leapt of the porch and started South. On two legs, her movements were perhaps more awkward for the thin, willowy child than for the average new shifter. At first she was wobbly. But she as she lost focus on her gate and instead paid attention to the fresh, crisp air, she stood straighter and walked smoothly.

As the girl passed the border of her home she found herself surrounded by huge oaks entangled with emerald vines and thorny bushes. Pausing, Blaise's jaw parted slightly and she peered around her in awe, feeling the life of the forest as much as her own heartbeat. After a moment she looked down at the ground and found a large stone with a flat edge, where she sat with her knees close together. Resting her opened notebook on her lap, the girl drew her pencil from its binding and slowly began to feather out the rays of the sun as she saw them falling through the leaves.

ooc adelle isnt old enough to shift yet so she be jealous

Adelle had broken the rules. Disregarding what her Grandpa said Adelle knew that she was strong enough to take care of herself. Determined to prove that fact Adelle marched over the borders, and quickly found herself wandering through the woods. With care Adelle marked her path back, concentrating on what she was doing. That didn't mean it was tidy and easy to follow by any means. While anyone could see the trail she was forming the gaps were inconsistent, sometimes a handful of steps between before Adelle decided it was time, others going on for a fair stretch before she remembered to mark the path she'd need to follow.

Moving along in this way Adelle froze as she entered a clearing. The oaks that surrounded it were large solid sources of comfort for the pup as she peered in. A white wolf was sitting there, making marks in something on her lap. Always the curious creature Adelle worked her way out of the trees and moved over. Sniffing Adelle realized that though the wolf was shifted, they were still close in age, confirmed by the fact that Adelle wasn't much smaller than her, only about a third of what looked like an adult's size. Snorting she looked up at the stranger. Bare fordi du kan skifte gør dig ikke speciel!

she's funny! :]

The image of sunlight wasn't perfect. Blaise held the pencil with unsteady hands as she brushed the lead against the paper, creating soft lines that poured down toward the center. She held her hand still and leaned back to examine her work critically, brow a slight furrow. Being so new to the use of hands, it would be impossible for her to recreate the beauty she saw and felt. She was about to attempt to improve the rays of light with careful shading when a soft snort interrupted her.

The thin girl looked up, apple eyes searching for the source of the unexpected sound. She jumped, startled, for right in front of her stood another little girl, not much younger than herself. The child was not very wolflike, with ears that flopped slightly and soft fur the color of gold. The young wolf began an amiable smile, pleased to at last see a pup her own age, but her eyes widened in surprise when the child spoke in a language that Blaise couldn't comprehend at all. Oh, she said uncertainly, her smile fading in confusion but her eyes alight with curiosity. What did you say? The little dog creature was awfully cute.

The wolf looked up, confused as she searched for the source of the interruption. Startlingly green eyes settled onto Adelle, making the pup suddenly uncomfortable under the gaze. It was a friendly studying stare, a bright smile on her face. The smile vanished at Adelle's words, making her immediately regret it. She shouldn't have said something so mean to someone she'd just met. The wolf couldn't help that she could shift and Adelle couldn't. Nodding sagely to herself Adelle sat down. Yes, a wise warrior wouldn't have said something like that. A foolish grin covered her face as she looked back up at the wolf.

Adelle cocked her head with confusion as the other spoke. She had no idea what had just been asked. It sounded like she was asking what Adelle was saying. Not that Adelle had a clue on how to say it in english, or that she really wanted to. Rapidly Adelle's mind wrapped around, trying to figure out what to say to answer the question. Um...new. Play? The sentence wasn't a translation by any means, but it was words that Adelle understood and could say.

sorry about all the rambling. Tongue

With the tilt of her head, the sable and gold child appeared not to understand what Blaise had said, either. The Dreamer wondered if she had come from far away, or if her parents just spoke unusually. Savina and her family sometimes talked in the language of a far-off place called Italy, but it sounded nothing like what the little girl had spoken. The grey was eager to ask lots of questions, but since the pup wouldn't be able to understand them, there was no point. Blaise would have to just wonder.

Confusion was in the younger child's ice-blue eyes. Her response was so off from what Blaise had actually asked that she burst into soft laughter, a rosy blush on her full cheeks. You're funny! she observed forgetfully, catching her breath as she eyed the girl with crinkled eyes. Hastily she added, Uh, I mean, yeah! Let's play!. Her full tail began to wave, rapidly picking up speed. She had never played with another child before, only the adults of her pack. That was fun, but somehow, she always felt that they didn't enjoy themselves as much as she always did.

Blaise began to worry as she dropped the notebook on the earth beside the stone. She felt badly for being in this form, as the other child seemed disadvantaged without hands for grabbing. Blaise held out her small hand, indicating that she needed a moment. Er, shift. she said, just in case. Maybe it would be cool for the dog to watch Blaise shift, right there in front of her. It took a few moments, and a few stifled whimpers, but she became a four-legged canine. Now satisfied, she snarled loudly through a smile so big that her fangs were exposed and jerked herself into play mode, her rump in the air, spanking her forelegs threateningly on the dirt.

Adelle grinned happily as the female laughed. She had no idea what was so funny, but it sure looked fun. Her tail wagged at amazing speeds, racing to show how happy and excited she was to be with another puppy. The white pup agreed to play with her and Adelle bounded back, bowing down. Bright blue eyes stared at her new friend, eagerly awaiting the chance to play with her. The other shifted into lupus form, a sight Adelle was growing used to from seeing it in the pack. It seemed more painful than when the others had changed though.

Adelle's reflection on that quickly disappeared as the other snarled, bounding into a play bow. Growling Adelle charged forwards, tackling the white pup. Adelle was the same size as her new friend now, as she would be a giant when full grown. Turning around Adelle raced into the forest. Pausing at the edge of the clearing she barked at her friend, wanting her to come along so they could explore it together. Turning back the pup trundled off, moving as fast as her short legs could.

The female attacked Blaise with more force than she had expected. Yelping, her green eyes popped in surprise, her footing gave way immediately, and she flopped onto her side. The skinny wolf took note of how much stronger than herself the dog was, so that she would be prepared for another assault in the future.

In a split second, her playmate had jumped away her and spun off into the opposite direction. Blaise regained her footing, darting after the golden fluff as fast as she could go. With long legs and large paws, she was a deft runner, reaching her friend seconds after she had beckoned her to the edge of the forest with a sharp bark. The wolf's tongue lolled freely as she looked into the clearing, thinking that the moss and ferns made it very pretty and magical. Blaise gently snapped at the pup's ruff and leaped away, again falling down and rolling awkwardly into a tangle of ferns.

The wolf tumbled over with the force of Adelle's playful shove. She yelped in surprise, Adelle simply grinning happily, not realizing that she was stronger than the pup before her. Both ran through the forest, the wolf quickly catching up to Adelle. Grinning Adelle barked happily, feeling like they could go on forever, nothing capable of stopping them. It was beautiful around them, the ferns bright and green with a dusting of snow overtop. It almost looked like someone had covered it with snow just for them to look at.

Adelle ducked as she felt teeth snap lightly at her ruff, tickling the furry pup. She giggled, twisting under the snap and moving to lunge back. The white female leaped clear away from Adelle, the pup's eyes wide with surprise, quickly dissolving into laughter as the maneuver failed, resulting in the wolf being tangled up in the bushes below. Just as gracefully Adelle leaped over, ending up in the ferns with her. Moving over she proceeded to lick attack her friend's face.

Sorry about the horrendous wait. I just got through with a big move. We can wrap this up soon if you like!

Slightly dazed, Blaise wriggled around in the leaves trying to get up. Before she could so much as roll over, a fluffy heap landed almost on top of her, a light cloud of soft snow erupting where she landed. The gray pup chuckled as she rolled to her feet. She leaned over to snuffle her friend's ear and failed, for immediately as she turned toward the gold and black child, her face was assaulted by rapid puppy kisses. The Dreamer exploded into a fit of giggles. “Stop it! Stop! That tickles, teehee," she pleaded. The smoky girl bolted backward a few inches, snarling and preparing to tackle her friend. But something caught her attention before she could execute her attack and she shut up.

Eyes fixed to a short, knobby tree behind her friend, Blaise stood absolutely still. She jerked her muzzle toward the tree, where a fat white rabbit sat on a lower branch munching leaves. “Err... Bunny! Look, let’s hunt it down!” she whispered. Her friend might not understand her words, but as soon as she saw the tasty little morsel, surely she would catch on right away.

ooc that's fine. settle in well?

Giggles met the pup's onslaught, Adelle's tail wagging furiously. The rapid words that shot out only lead to her redoubling her effort, licking twice as fast, tail going like a motor with short happy whines filling the air. The wolf dodged away from Adelle, leaping clear of the attack. Adelle bowed down, ready for a charge. A snarl came towards her, and Adelle did her best to mimic it, a puppy growl coming from the deep chest. She was ready for this!

The attack didn't come though, her friend's eyes shifting to behind Adelle. Puzzled she cocked her head, looking at the older pup. She woofed softly, wondering what had grabbed the other's attention. Adelle turned, looking to see a very fat rabbit, sitting and nibbling very happily on the low brush of the tree. Her tail went into another spin, otherwise perfectly still. She nodded at the quiet whisper. Hunt. Hunt was good. She crouched down, trying to figure out how to catch it.
