The dingy buildings rose in the hazy distance. A thin, silver sheet of rain fell, but the clouds were thin and there was plenty of light. It had been sunny earlier, with no more than a few horsetail clouds in the sky. Ksenija sighed sharply, irritated that it was now raining. She had expected the pretty weather to last all day, giving her a chance to get into Halifax when there would likely be canines to take interest in her goods. The young woman was less than a mile away from town, so was no reason not to continue. The rain was light and had just begun to fall an hour ago. She was sure there would be a few wanderers, and her things were certainly worth lingering in the rain to look at.

Kse gently kicked the horse's sides and it obediently began to trot, hooves thudding on the stony earth. Soon she reached a small, residential street and followed it deeper into the city, until it became a wide avenue with skeletal shops along either side. Her mood began to lift, for there was a nice crowd of canines milling the street and its sidewalks. Smiling, Ksenija lowered the hood of her leather coat, pale eyes slowly drifting around her. She wouldn't have trouble.

The Russian female chose a place on the walk that was covered by the awning of an old restaurant and dismounted her stolen horse. She took down the saddlebags full of valuables, most of them also stolen, and carefully began to form a display on a rich red velvet cloth that she had spread on the ground. When she was finished, she stepped off to the side and admired. She had such nice things. Kse leaned against the horse, her shoulders squared smugly as she threw inviting smiles at the canines on the street.

She had been minding her own business, really. How Terra had ended up racing down the street with half a duck was beyond her. She'd gotten a little hungry, the smell had grabbed her, and now she was off. It took a little while before she finally stopped. Grinning Terra tucked into her ill gotten meal, earned the way that coyotes had for years. At least, the way her birth pack had. Tail swishing behind her Terra enjoyed the taste, ears trained for any sounds of being chased. It appeared her luck had struck this time, allowing her to enjoy the meal quite happily. Soon the duck was nothing but a pile of bones for her to chew on. Licking her jaws clean Terra stepped out.

Spotting a display full of colorful gems Terra froze. She had to see those. Taking a moment Terra shifted from her tiny lupine form to optime, gracious delicate. Long red hair was brushed from her face as the green eyed thief worked her way across the crowd. Standing before the display Terra completely ignored the wolf standing next to them in favor of the shinies that had tickled her fancy. They were so bright, green and blue and red, and even a black one! Without even thinking about it Terra palmed a gem, feeling the smooth green under her hand. The one that wasn't working on making the stolen gem disappear held up a fiery red one, seeming to glow and change color within.

Yay, it's a you.

Her misty theif's eyes scanned the market with exceptional attention. Many of the patrons appeared harried, probably as frustrated by the rain as she had been. Thankfully, a few of them occasionally stopped to browse the wares of the sparse vendors. She would have to rely on them. A dark, handsome man was coming toward her, and her brow rose in hopeful interest. He stopped at the vendor bedside her, a short way down the street. Kse put a totally complacent smile upon her lips and lifted her muzzle contentedly to the soft rain.

She heard a strange sound. Brow furrowed, the silver female peered down the street and saw a little woman hurrying forward with... a duck, between her jaws. Kse carefully composed her salesman face again in an effort not to giggle, for this one was definitely drawn by her vast array of beautiful artifacts. The fox-colored female approached and began to awe at Kse's Russian gems.

Helllo, there, miss, she spoke in heavily accented tones. May I help you find what you are looking for? Still grinning, Kse moved swiftly to stand directly beside her customer. Suffering from kleptomania herself, the Russian was always prepared to nail shoplifters. She did not expect this woman to steal from her, however the duck was rather curios, and she had to consider the possibility that it had not been obtained ethically. Smoothly, she continued, These jewels are directly from Russia-- and abruptly stopped. Was this delicate creature trying to conceal an emerald in her palm? Ksenija would not be robbed of a massive sale. Emeralds were extremely rare, second only to diamonds.

Careful not to appear as angry as she felt, Kse coughed to excuse her abrupt cut-off. Like that one. That is ruby. Beautiful, yes? she spoke softly, glancing at the woman.

Terra is ignorant XD

She had no idea about the relative worth of the gem she had taken. She just knew that it was big, shiny, and brightly colored. Terra would have been just as satisfied with a simple crystal holding the same range of color and brightness. A funny voice spoke up, catching Terra's attention. Turning she realized it was the wolf that had been standing next to all the beautiful stones. A silly grin crossed her face as she listened, enjoying the odd tones that drifted through distorting the words. What she was looking for? Terra wasn't looking for anything specific, beyond the bright jewels that twinkled in her eyes. She wanted them all, to play with and admire and hide away. True, that was the very reason why she didn't have any, from her habit of playing with them and losing them from her games.

That didn't stop her from chasing after them, even if it was a short lived joy. Russia? What's Russia? She'd never heard of Russia before. Terra cocked her head, looking at the merchant curiously. Maybe that was where all the stones came from. A special place in the ground called Russia. That made sense. The cut off caught Terra's attention, her grin spreading. Clever wolf. She knew what Terra had done. Very. Lifting her other hand she held out the green one. This a ruby as well? The red one burns. Swiftly she juggled the gems, tossing them rapidly, a rainbow of color shot through the sky as the gems flashed in the rain. A small crowd began to gather, watching the show curiously.
