Private for Insomnia, with apologies for taking so long to get it up.

The morning was bright and clear, officially it was now spring and many of the trees in the lands were heavily laden with blossoms of many bright colours, pinks, purples and whites mostly. All around the lands seemed to be springing into life once more, the grass seemed greener and lusher somehow, some early flowers were poking their heads up from the ground now, tight buds ready to unfurl soon. There was a slight breeze blowing through the lands today, brushing against the branches of the trees, almost caressing them. It was very peaceful and pleasant this morning, the sun was hanging low in the sky, signifying that dawn had only just broken. Here and there small creatures stirred from their sleep and raced here and there, playing in the warm sunlight, seeming to be celebrating the spring time's long awaited arrival. The sable female had risen early, beating the sun as she often did, she had had a troubled night's sleep, many things were playing on her mind, the new season often made her evaluate her life and so she had been fretting about small things, was she a good Beta? Were the pack happy? Were they all safe and sound here? Were her pups alright? She had tossed and turned all night, finally giving up and padding out of the den, pausing only to kiss Deuce and to take one of her most precious belongings from the shelves that lined the alcove that they slept in. They had chosen it because of those shelves, which were not really shelves at all, but ridges and grooves that had been cut into the cave system a long time ago, they now housed many things that the females had not wanted to leave behind, some small trinkets, furs and the like. She left quietly, padding as silently as she possibly could as not to disturb any of her pack mates, the precious object clutched in her fist.

Soon enough the Beta wolf was sure that she was far enough away from the den that she would not disturb anyone. She selected a seat, a low flat rock and sat upon it, crossing her long legs and looking up at the sky. Only then did she move to look down at the flute, the dark female was not a big fan of human artifacts, she was not keen on them in the slightest, there were a lot that humans had done that she did not agree with. But books and the flute, they were two things that she did like humans for, they had been cruel beings that had ruined the planet that they had lived on, but they had managed to create some things of beauty. The sable female ran a hand through her long, curled mane, smiling to herself as she did so, the feathers that adorned her mane were ruffled by the breeze. She smiled to herself and put the silver tube to her lips, she had not played for far too long, she had missed it, she always found it calming, soothing. She began to play, her long, deft fingers playing up and down the flute, a quick cheerful melody began to echo around the lands as she played. The secret, guilty pleasure of the Betess.

Insomnia didn’t know what to think. Wait….she was probably wrong once again. She knew what to think, she just didn’t want to admit what she was thinking. She wouldn't admit to anyone that she was ever wrong, only that she was right. She snorted as she walked down the hill of the valley. This was one place she hadn’t been. Tomorrow she would venture out to the borders again since her alpha had finally let her venture again. One seemed full of trees and wildlife but the other one in the distance seemed as if it were a plate filled with creams and oranges. She didn’t know where she was now, she only concluded that she would end up traveling there first and work her way backwards. Life was beginning to become boring.

She stepped on a rather sharp rock that jutted out from the ground. “Ouuuchh!” she complained as she glared at the culprit as if the inanimate object would apologize for what it did. “Go terrorize someone else you rock,” she said, her voice filled with as much poison as the yearling could possibly muster. She was dramatic huff she sat upon the warm ground, lifting her forepaw to see what the damage was. Just a little prick, nothing too harmful, she thought before thinking back to the lessons her mother had given her shortly before leaving. Then again, mother would say that all small things could turn into something larger so clean it for infection…but how am I supposed to keep my paw clean? It’s always on the ground. She tilted her head in thought as her silver eyes look at the small puddle of blood that escaped from the tiny wound. She began to clean it properly, her tongue thankfully not taking a liking to the taste of her own blood.

It took only a few seconds to clean her paws, her pale eyes wandering around the beautiful valley despite the box of horrors it possessed. She paused in mid-lick as she spotted another wolf not far from her. Female, from what it looked like with the pelt of soft black hues much like the forest she refused to enter. Sticking her tongue back in her mouth she lowered her paw and stood, no longer spiteful towards the jagged rock. She stood shaking her ruff before silently, or as silently as she could muster with a bruised paw, she limped towards her. Her curiosity always got the best of her. To bad she wasn’t a feline, because then it would be quite acceptable to say ‘curiosity killed the cat’. It’d be deeply frowned upon is she said that while being a canine.

That's when she heard the music. She looked at the female and stopped to listen. She smiled than. This was so beautiful, she wished she could play like that. "That's amazing..." She looked up at the female, she knew her name was Soran but didn't really know her well. "Did you learn to play that by yourself?"
