The Start of Something New
#1
Fayne had been traveling by herself for about a week. She had left her brothers and sisters to fend for themselves, knowing that she could not be accountable for them when they chose to join a pack. She was confident in all of their abilities, she only hoped they would be able to keep themselves from harm. On Fayne's own travels she had fought off several rogues and sustained a few minor injuries. Her neck bared a slash like wound no bigger than five inches, though it was still fresh and stained her light colored coat. On her right leg, a smile bite mark which she had licked clean. She appeared rugged and tired, her normally spotless coat full of the filth from her travels. Though she fed and watered herself sufficiently, she had kept a fast pace eager to reach pack territories where, once accepted, she could finally relax.

Fayne sniffed the air occasionally hoping she was close to the territory borders. She had to be weary not to cross. She didn't want her new family to think she was rude and potentially be turned down. Fayne had picked up a scent of wolves near by. She was close to the borders. She gave a sigh of relief, this would be the end of her travels if she played her cards right. Fayne rose her head an looked up through the trees. She parted her jaws and let out a long even howl to alert the pack that she had arrived. Now all she had to do was wait for one of the higher ups to come and assess her. To show proper respect she lowered her head and positioned her ears so that they were parallel to her skull. She curled her tail so it was dangling between her hind legs, though not tucked completely underneath her. She was ready to submit herself on a higher level if she needed to, she would do anything to be part of a family again.

As Fayne waited she took in breaths of the air and carefully monitored the sounds of the forest so she would know when a pack member drew near. A small genuine smile shone on her face and her tailed twitched with anticipation. The young wolf was extremely happy to finally be here and hoped with all her heart that the pack would graciously accept her into their ranks. She thought of how life used to be before the virus had started infecting wolves. So happy and care free, no humans hunting their game or encroaching on their land. Her hardships were finally behind her and maybe now she could settle down, find a life mate, and have pups of her own. She was always keen on becoming a mother and the thought tickled her pink. Though she knew she would have to earn the respect of the pack before she even thought of doing these things. She didn't care as long as that was her future. These happy thoughts continued as she stood there waiting patiently.

OOC:: Hi there! Big Grin WC: 395

In Character

Ciara had been travelling the borders that day, grateful for the chance to move freely. A myriad of things had happened since her injuries, and they were now healed. She felt whole again, even though the fur had not grown completely over the gash on her side. It was just shorter than the rest of her pelt, no longer bald, which she was thankful for. To make matters better, she had survived her first heat cycle with no grievous incidents. Part of that had to do with her respect for her Alphas, another part was that she was only interested in one male, and he was a creature of control.

She had awoken that morning deciding to scout the pack lands for a herd. As the newly appointed Epsilon, she knew that it was partly her duty to lead pack hunts. She’d been thinking about it almost constantly. The calico female spent the early hours of that day combing over every inch of New Dawn’s territory until she found a sizeable herd. Ciara had just laid down, crouching in the damp grass to watch the herd and pick out any weaklings – when a howl reached her ears.

She didn’t recognize the noise, but stood and carefully stalked away anyway. The Epsilon had yet to greet a new wolf at the borders and she wanted to take the chance this time. It would be a good show of her rank to do so, and she planned to pepper the wolf with questions, whether they wanted to join or not. Picking her speed up into quick trot, she soon saw the tree-line of the borders on the horizon and made her way towards the canine awaiting her company.

A smell she’d never detected before hit her, and she slowed her steps for a moment, stopping just a few feet away from the newcomer. It was clearly part wolf, but had another trace to its blood that Ciara could not determine. It was not coyote, for sure, which caused Ciara to relax a little. She moved forward then and took on a dominant posture. Her thick tail curled up over her back, ears pushed forward and earthen eyes focused intently on the orange gaze of the canine before her.

“I am Ciara, Epsilon of New Dawn, the pack whose borders you now stand on. What are your intentions?”

AND I'M HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF

Word Count :: 500+ Helloooo! =)

The Fairy Queen, too, heard the call, but instead of meeting it with Ciara’s eagerness today the sound came as a bit of an annoyance. Why did tedious tidings have to interrupt lunch? For a moment Titania thought about staying put in Avalon, loathing the thought of relinquishing her kill to the scavengers, but then the disconcerting thought of a stranger at her borders spoke louder than her belly did, and soon the Alphess rose to all fours and trotted away from the half eaten hare. It wasn’t long after that she heard the sound of fluttering wings as a carrion bird swooped down to enjoy the still warm meat. Sighing, the wolfess entered the copse that enclosed Avalon, and trotted toward the sound of the call.

At least she knew she could count on her pack to rise to the call of duty, too. It seemed that almost every New Dawn member spread themselves about the lands, so their territory was oft protected from infiltration. Rarely had a call gone out and she was the first responder, normally someone else had been closer and found the visitor before herself, as seemed to be the case today, too.

When Titania arrived her amber eyes fell upon the sight of her pack sister, Ciara, speaking with a stippled black and gray wolf, one with a few distinguishable coat markings like the dark stripe that seemed to trace her spine. She also noticed Ciara’s highly curled tail, and to this she raised an eyebrow. Not long ago she had had a “problem”, so to speak, with Ciara. Wrought with instinctual dominance and jealousy, Titania had gone on edge when Ciara went into heat, and had banished the wolfess from the communal den. But now things had blown over, Titania’s ego no longer bruised, and Ciara was once again on good terms with her. But this curled tail? She knew she was asserting her station over the stranger, but this much of a show could lead the stranger to believe that she was the Alpha.

Perhaps a slip of the moment… she thought to herself, able to be more level headed than she was with their last incident. Yet still she would not let it go completely. Raising her head and tail, Titania trotted over to the pair. She padded up next to Ciara, bumping her shoulder into hers in their affectionate family way… and also holding her head a hair taller than the Epsilon.

There, that should quell the issue just fine. Looking down her snout at the stranger, she finally realized that the strange female did not appear to be full wolf. Most of her features were wolfish, and her blood was probably predominantly a strain of their kind (little did she know, by coincidence, the same breed as her own, in fact).

Ciara had already spoken, and there was no need to demand the same questions. After all, Ciara was a perfectly acceptable voice of New Dawn in matters such as these – but she could not speak for the pack when it came to making a decision. So, respecting Ciara’s station, she awaited the stranger’s response. Her own introduction would come soon enough; though to any wolf with the slightest ancestral memory left would know who Titania was in this pack by her presence alone.

The wind worked in his favor like it usually did. Shadow picked up the scent of his Alphess and of Ciara as well but there was one other that he did not recognize. Another new member perhaps? They had been getting a lot of attention lately and there numbers were growing fast. Shadow moved quickly from the den of New Dawn and made his way to where he picked up all the action.

In no time at all Shadow came up to Titania and without realizing he wasn't making any noise he moved next to her and spoke lightly, giving her a nod of respect and his ears and tail showed his respect as well.

Hello Titania...Another possible new member at our boarders once again? It seems we are popular these days.

Shadow was naturally stealthy and did not know that he would be catching her off guard but regardless maybe it would make her laugh and lighten her up a little given what he heard and what he had seen in her eyes as of late.

If he needed he would offer to hunt with her or even horse around like pups if it came to it. He knew from watching and listening how taxing being a leader could be, much like being an assassin. Perhaps this could be there time to bond and really get a chance to get to know one another.

Fayne lifted her front paws, left then right on the soft earth beneath her as she waited to be approached by one, or multiple pack members. If wasn't long before a wolf, slightly smaller than herself approached her with her head and tail raised high. She was the color of burnt wood and caramel, her body laced with hues of black. The stranger's ears and eyes focused on Fayne intently, she kept her head low and her gaze focused at the ground near the wolf's feet careful not to make eye contact. Though she presented herself rather dominantly Fayne did not think this was the Alpha of the pack. She was greeted with a simple and quite obvious question. Fayne knew the formalities of greeting a loner very well. She opened her mouth to speak but before she could another wolf came up and stood shoulder to shoulder with her comrade. She stood taller than the brown wolf, her tail and head raised in the same manner with the fur on her back lifted. This was the Alpha, her presence said it all. She was a light colored noble looking wolf with tones of black and brown mixed into her pelt. Fayne gathered her thoughts and attempted to speak again.

"My intentions are to join the ranks of yo-" She was interrupted mid sentence by a third wolf.. She raised an eyebrow, she didn't heard a single leaf crunch or a twig snap before he reached them. [i]Whoa...[/b] He spoke to the first wolf that had greeted her, it appeared that her name was Tatiana. This solid black heathen had a light and carefree demeanor. It was refreshing to Fayne, she hadn't seen a single happy face in her time traveling here. She twitched an ear and cracked a slight smile at the thought then continued. "My intentions are to join the ranks of your pack. I hope to call your land my home and become part of a family again." Her answer was honest and straight to the point. There was no dilly dallying or lying when it came to this. Fayne continued to stand in the submissive stance. The three wolf's eyes were firmly focused on her.

She wasn't sure how this was going to play out, but she was confident that if she showed proper respect and edicate that she would be accepted into their family. Though, as a low unimportant rank. She didn't mind though, she would work her way up through the ranks with hard work and determination. She stood still, a smile on her face as she thought about it. It was a welcoming and warm feeling to be part of a pack. Even if they did treat you like dirt at first, you're one of them.

Ciara had been intently, though politely, staring the stranger down and waiting for her to answer. The Epsilon’s nose was twitching constantly as she tried to determine that other trace in her blood, while earthen eyes looked over the silver female’s form. The stranger appeared to be in good health with a strong form, and no distinguishing marks or visible injuries. It appeared that she’d be a strong addition to the pack and likely had much to offer. Perhaps she’d even do well as a mate for one of the many unmated males in New Dawn. While this should have worried Ciara, as the presence of a threat, the Epsilon was not concerned for her own reasons.

She had smelled the Alphess arriving even before the cinnamon female bumped shoulders with her, and she relaxed the posture of her ears and head, insuring they were less erect and lower than Titania’s respectively. Her tail dropped below the Alphess’ as well, showing that while she respected Titania’s place as Alpha and the other female’s dominance over her, she still held rank over the newcomer. Ciara detected a trace of irritation in Titania’s demeanour, but she didn’t allow a frown to crease her features. She’d bring it up to the Alphess later.

As Fayne began to answer Ciara’s questions, Shadowfang arrived on the scene. The calico Epsilon’s eyes trailed to the hulking male, watching intently to make sure that his posture was appropriate. If not, she was sure that the Alphess would correct him. Then, Fayne completed her answer and Ciara gave a nod. She took a single step back so Fayne would now be closest to Titania, effectively handing the situation over to her Alphess. She would remain there in case she was needed, in case Fayne decided to harm the Alphess – something Ciara would quickly end her for. She was Epsilon now after all, a warrior for New Dawn, protector and provider for the pack.

Word Count :: 300+ In the interest of getting Fayne titled ASAP, I'd like to ask if you guys mind open post order until Titania goes "You in home dawg!" (In other words, Fayne can post ASAP without having to wait for the rotation.)

Shadow seemed to appear out of nowhere, sneaking along as silently as his name would suggest. Perhaps she hadn’t noticed the male because she was so intent on the newcomer, but her instincts still had a handle on her surroundings so when he spoke she didn’t leap out of her skin. Instead, one ear flicked toward him for a moment before pointing toward Fayne again. A moment later, there was a small shift as Titania gave a small affectionate shoulder bump to Shadow. She was proud of her pack in this moment; proud that they were supportive of their realm, and of her. She had noticed Ciara’s shift, and any momentary worries she had when first arriving diminished. This is as it should be, with pack here to protect family, and possibly in this case, welcome new family.

“It is never coincidence when the wolf is led to New Dawn,” she said with a smile. “But it is a moon blessing when the wolf prevails within one such as yourself.” This was her sleight way of hinting towards her suspicion that Fayne was a half-breed, but the wolf was clearly predominant within her, so the wolfess’s possible mixed blood was of no true concern.

“If you want to embrace your heritage as a wolf, you have come to the right place. Our family, our pack, believes in the true lifestyle. Of course, we don’t shrug our shoulders at the empowerment out abilities give us, but we have not turned out backs on our nature as so many of our kind sadly have. Wolf should be with wolf, in our real home. We are called together with every fiber of our being. Do you feel the calling, too?” She stepped forward then, extending her snout to prod gently at the stranger’s muzzle, scenting her whilst also seeking signs of insubordination. If one was only acting, then it was often hard to subdue the urge to snap back when personal space was being invaded, so this was one of her favored tactics when judging new members.

Her breath whispered in Fayne’s ear as she prodded, still scenting, and then she stepped back and spoke, “I am Titania Moonsong. Tell me wanderer, what is your name?”

When Titania bumped him lightly he keep his respectful pose but lightly bumped her back as he smiled warmly at her. He loved the Alphess and would die to protect and see the pack grow and prosper. He listened to her words and nodded after she was done for she was right. If you had wolf blood within then you had a place in New Dawn.

Even if it wasn't pure and there was a mixture New Dawn would still accept someone who had worth and even if they didn't. Just the drive to join, and a show of respect was the biggest part. He watched Titania as she prodded the new comer and he flashed a smile to the stranger to help ease her a little and he gave a nod.

All she had to do was remain kind, respectful and dutiful and she was in. The idea of having yet another pack sister was exciting news and he was happy for the addition, however nothing had been decided yet but he would cast his vote and give his favor if it came down to him, even though he had no high rank. He was still a member and he knew his voice would fall on def ears.

Shadow looked to Ciara and smiled and he nodded to her showing his respect for her station and hoped that he would be able to catch up with his sister like he planed on doing with his Alphess.

OOC: Just note, that Fayne does have a few minor injuries. Though, she is in good health. :3 Oh, and thanks home skillet!! X3

IC: Fayne felt gifted standing there before these three heathens. She kept an honest smile on her face, she was liking how things were going. These pack wolves seemed kind and warm, Fayne was glad to be surrounded by beings that loved and cared for one another. Much better than her past situations. Fayne relaxed herself just a little. Her ears lifted slightly from her skull and her tail now hung loose, dangling lifelessly between her hind legs. Her head still remained low and she kept her eye contact on the forest floor, she couldn't relax fully, not ever in the presence of an Alpha. Not until she gained a higher rank in the pack. Fayne's eyes shifted to the Alpha's feet as she spoke. The young mercury colored wolf's ears shifted slightly at her first sentence. She was unaware of the meaning, but it sounded to her like a compliment. She blinked eagerly, her fat tail swaying lightly behind her at the sound of it. It had a nice ring to it, somewhat like poetry.

Fayne listened as the ash and wood colored Alpha continued. She unintentionally raised her ears at the words that followed next, but quickly pinned them to her cranium when she noticed her slip up. She had come to the right place after all. This was a pack that clung onto the way of their ancestors as Fayne's pack had done for so long. Though each of them was changed by the virus, they preferred to remain in Lupus form and live the way they had before the outbreak. Fayne's dark face lightened, she was truly ecstatic to be standing here right now. The happiness was written all over her. She responded with a sharp nod. Fayne's eyes flashed up at the black wolf to catch his smile, she grinned genuinely back at him. A moment later the Alpha greeted her, nudging Fayne's muzzle with her her own. Fayne nudged back gently, she was being accepted it seemed. The touch between the two was soft and genuine. Her new life within the pack would begin, she was incredibly thankful. This is it! I shall call New Dawn my home. Titiana stepped back and spoke once more, her voice was kind. Fayne quickly answered the question, her voice was full of joy. Almost trembling with an overwhelming happiness.

"I am Fayne. I have traveled for months, only dreaming of a place like this. Now, I stand here in your presence, overwhelmed by beaming thoughts. Thoughts of being accepted, becoming part of a family again, living the way our ancestors had for so long. I hope to make a life here, and grow strong ties with each of you." Then she simply stood there, smiling her widest. Her eyes bright with anticipation. She could not contain the emotions that flowed through her like molten lava warming her whole body from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail. Her tail swayed back and forth, displaying the emotions that filled her.

333 <-- only half-evil

Sorry for the wait!

Ciara had remained tense and alert during the entire conversation between this newcomer and her Alphess. The strange smell of an unknown canine still bothered her, making her unable to fully trust Fayne even as she revealed more and more about herself. Her tail had changed positions yet again, this time sticking straight out to show just how alert she was. If Fayne made a single wrong move, if Ciara even saw her look at Titania in anything less than a respectful way, the Epsilon would be quick to put the wolf in her place and remind her just who was standing before her. The Alphess of New Dawn deserved respect, and the calico yearling wouldn’t stand for anything less being shown to the cinnamon leader.

When she caught Shadowfang looking at her out of the corner of her eye, she realized that her brother might think she was ignoring him. She and Titania had exchanged the familial shoulder bump, but Ciara had been too concerned with duty to offer Shadow the same affection. As Fayne began to speak of her dreams of becoming part of a family Ciara realized that she could relax a little. This silver wolf was not going to harm her Alpha, and the Epsilon allowed her hackles to lower as she moved closer to her sable pack brother. Affectionately, she bumped her nose to the larger wolf’s shoulder, offering him a calm smile before turning back to Fayne.

While she had been the first to greet the newcomer, Ciara remained silent and allowed Titania to judge whether or not this canine was right for New Dawn. She sounded alright enough to the Epsilon, but only time would tell if her intentions were true. They had better be, for Ciara was fiercely protective of the family she’d become a part of in New Dawn. She would not allow any harm to come to it, not even if it came in the form of the sweet-speaking and innocent looking stranger.

AND I'M HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF

Word Count :: 200+Deepest apologies for the delay in my reply, my weekend was busier than expected.

The wanderer was receptive to Titania when she reached out to her physically. A wolf that had a problem with authority would find it hard to be in such close proximity to an alpha, and might not be able to resist some tell tale signs of insubordination. But instead of any of these less than favorable responses, Fayne seemed happy… proud even… to accept the Alphess’s small nudges. She didn’t even flinch away as Titania’s muzzle came close to her neck; a good sign indeed.

Then she spoke her words, and Titania liked what she heard. It seemed the stranger had been alone for a long time, lost and without anyone to call family, without any territory to call home. Her very being called out for a place like New Dawn, the same calling they had all heard. She was eager, enthusiastic, and despite being a little rough around the edges and a mix-breed (Titania assumed) she had plenty going for her.

The Alphess stepped back, her eyes flashing between her pack before turning back to the wanderer. “Welcome, Fayne. Come meet your family. This is Shadow, of the Subord rank – like you,” she clarified, then turned her eyes to Ciara. “And Ciara, Epsilon, protector of our pack. Our family grows quickly, you will meet many more very soon.”

With that, Titania raised her nose to the sky and let her wolf song bless New Dawn, letting all the pack know that another lost soul had finally found home.
