Dhiate relaxed in the dark coyote's arms, practically melting into the scarred muscles. His head rested gently against a warm wall of flesh. For the time being, he was fairly content with his position. Cerberus was safe, Amy wasn't mad anymore or at least not that he could tell, and Raoth wasn't trying to attack him again.
Dhiate's ears caught the conversation and he could almost smile. Cerberus had realized that Dhiate was Amy's and would always be. That's how the world worked, and that's how Dhiate lived. Without Amy, Dhiate probably wouldn't be able to survive. He knew he couldn't hunt with his charred lungs, and Amy kept him fed, clothed, and sheltered. And sometimes she showed fondness for Dhiate, something that he knew was rare with her and should be cherished.
In an instant, Dhiate's eyes snapped open and he tensed against Raoth, practically pushing up against him. He might get to spend time with Cerberus. Dhiate wasn't sure to be wary or excited at the thought. His big bluish gray eyes flicked between his mistress and friend. What would happen? If Cerberus looked at him, he would just barely wag his tail, soft fur brushing against Raoth's legs. If Cerberus didn't look at him, he would close his eyes again and listen to their deal.
As it was, he felt Raoth's arm brush against him. Looking up, he saw the coyote's almost sadistic smile and knew what he was doing. Looking down, he gently placed one hand on Raoth's. His face was somber as his tiny pale hand lay against the much larger, darker one. Unseen by others, he raised his other hand and placed it against the one wrapped around his slender waist. Hidden by his own body, his slender fingers slipped between Roath's larger ones. As he held Raoth's hand, he looked back towards his friend and squeezed the coyote's hand in anxiety.
