Great, just great! The wolfess swore; the situation she was in couldn't get any worse. She still had traces of blood of the game she had taken down before another predator, a cougar, decided that it would be easier to steal this meal from a lone wolf rather than hunt its own. Now, the mahogany female stood a good eight feet from the cat, snarling and with all her fur spiked. The fact that she was in Lupus form didn't help much either, and she couldn't shift into Secui without putting herself into a vulnerable position.

Luckly for Luna, her size was enough to intimidate the cougar for the moment, and she hoped that it would be enough. Slowly, she began to surround the now abandoned carcass, facing her challenger, her teeth bared. But, opposite to her supposition, the puma lunged at her so fast that she didn't have time to dodge it completely, and one of her hind-paws got injured by the feline's sharp claws. A painful whine escaped the girl's mouth as she tried not to loose her balance. She had no time to tend to her wound, she merely snarled, albeit she was more scared than anything. Was all of this worth the prey? she had managed to take down an old doe, which was more skin than meat at her age. It would've been wiser to turn around and run.

But it was too late to amend that mistake now. She tried to back away as slowly as possible when the cougar's attention slid towards the carcass, but the movement seemed to direct it towards her once again. On its eyes, the scared she-wolf could read the determination to kill what this predator saw as competence for food.

Suddenly, the voice of her Spirit Guide rang on her head. "Howl for help." Quickly, she obeyed, calling for whoever was in the immediate area for help. The howl also seemed to alarm the cougar, which delayed its attack for a moment. "Now, stand completely still." She heard too. But her whole body cried for her to run away. The instinct was so strong that she dared back away, catching the feline's attention again. This time, it didn't vacilate but jumped right on top of the female, who ended beneath the heavy and muscular body of the feline. She tried to resist, pushing its ribcage with her front paws and trying to reach the animal's muzzle with her jaws, but her throbbing injury didn't help at all, making it harder for her to concentrate. She just hoped that somebody had heard the howl, or the tumult of growls and roars as she tried to get free.

Sorry it's so long >.< wc; 702

Frodo sat in the middle of a field, his knees pulled inwards, arms hugging them as he almost rocked back and forth. The gentle swaying had him quite dizzy, but he just could not get comfortable. And so he outstretched his legs in the slightest, cracked his arms into a more suitable posture, and continued to sit, and watch. His horse galloped around the field aimlessly, hoping Frodo - and possibly some grazing mares - were taking an interest. The stallion really was a show off. Frodo tried his best to watch, as to not hurt Strider's feelings, but to be honest it wasn't anything he hadn't seen before. Still, it was amusing, the and the young man found himself chuckling as Strider cantered dangerously close, sending the grassy turf upwards in a mess of dirt and mud. Frodo carried on laughing until the horse had passed, and then he realised he was covered in mud, from head to toe. The man winced, scratching a clawed hand through his golden locks before standing up, a bit wobbly but none the less able.

Mr Silvertongue sent his horse a farewell in low speech, raised his hand, and then mosied on out, cloak flying out behind him. Firstly he walked to his hut, to strip himself of cloak and shirt; but he kept his chain-ringed necklace and green neckerchief for safe keeping. They were too, splattered with mud, but they were important and valuable keepsakes from home, perhaps the only thing he had left from home. Apart from his bow. His bow... Frodo had left it in the hut while he'd gone to keep watch on Strider. The man bit his lip and fell to his knees, scrambling around on the floor until his hand closed around firm wood. His sheath of arrows was where it always was; hanging up on the side of the hut, but he'd been oiling his bow last night and had completely forgot about putting it back in his place.

With his most prized weapon safely in his hand, Frodo stood up. His hut was very small, with such a low ceiling that perhaps if Frodo was a foot taller, he'd have banged his head on it. Alas, Frodo was a midget, and he preferred it that way. The mixed-bred wolf was just exiting his den, bow and arrows on his shoulders, when he called the cry. It was a howl, not a howl of claiming territory or warning away strangers; a plee for help. Aghast, Frodo perked his ears to the sound and immediately set off at a run. He would perhaps have been quicker in secui, but he was most lethal with his bow, and he didn't fancy leaving it behind. Whatever trouble his pack-member was in, it sounded like he'd need to be lethal.

When he finally came upon the scene, all he saw was a large cougar with its paws on something. With a jolt, Frodo realised the cougar probably had its paws on the victim that had called for help. Frodo had half a mind to shoot it then and there, but he knew if it died on Luna she might as well die herself too; it would collapse and its weight could finish her. And so he knocked an arrow in place, stalked to the side of the animal rather than the back, and let loose the arrow. He was about 20 meters away, out of sight, and out of mind. The shot was quite far, but with his precise aim, it went into the target easily. The cougar was shot in the neck, and it rolled to the right, away from Luna rather than a top of her. Frodo was still wary that the creature could still be alive, but as it seemed not to be moving, he quickly jogged up to his pack-sister. He wanted to hold out a hand to drag her up, but she was in lupus, so he crouched and tried to help her up with both hands instead. Are ye ok? I heard yer call, I was er, Wellington worried, right? I thought you mighta hopped off already. he gushed, intense green eyes clear with doubt and worry.

398w :: No prob XD

Luna wasn't used to being on a situation of vulnerability, but she knew that, in any case where she was forced into it, she had to fight her way out. She resisted the puma's multiple attacks, folding it back as much as she could. bare fangs managed to get ahold of its thick-skinned leg, but little did it help. In fact, it infuriated the feline even more, adding extra force to its blows. Luna missed them by milimeters. however, her strengh began to drop as she grew tired. No matter how much adrenaline was in her system, the abuse that her muscles were object of wouldn't be inconsecuent. All her hopes were laid on the arrival of external aid.

As she had suspected, her cries for help attracted the attention of her packmates, and the oh-so-expected help came in the form of an arrow, which hit the feline straight to the neck with enough impulse to throw it off her. The sudden turn on the situation was a shock to the injured medic, who didn't move but panted heavily, exhausted by the fear, the surprise and the pain. A couple of seconds passed before she collected herself and she gained consciousness of her surroundings, and of the dusky male approaching her.

Leaning over her trembling body, he tried to incorporate her on all fours, to which she helped by supporting most of her weight on her good paws. He was clearly worried for her, as his words denoted, but she tried to calm him down. "I'm ok, I can still move." She said, trying to smile, but grinning hysterically instead. She couldn't elaborate on her affirmation, because a burning sensation came to her from her hind paw, the left, and obeying her natural impulses, she reached it to lick the scratch, pushing her savior's hands as she did so.

Green eyes rose to meet his equally green ones once theunconfortable sensation was soothed. Again, she did her best to stand up. "Th-thank you" She managed to mumble. but, for the second time, she was interrupted, albeit by a different reason. A heavy pant was heard behind her and, as a reflex, she turned her head towards the source, her features twisting into a mask of horror once again at the sight of the mountain lion, wounded, yes, but still alive and trying to get back on its feet.

Leaning over the female, he noticed how much she seemed to tremble, and what a shock she must have had. She seemed breathless, scared, more than anything, and it did not seem she was injured too badly despite having something double her size straddle her violently. But she was alright. Luna muttered that she was alright and slowly, Frodo nodded, agreeing that she could still move and talk and whatnot. He didn't think he'd need to call a medic, especially as if he remembered correctly, she was probably one herself. She was a stranger, but in a pack, everyone had their connections. He didn't know her, she was almost a stranger to him, but he was familiar with her scent.

Green eyes took in the way she smiled hysterically, almost like a child, as if she found the situation amusing. This made him give a sideways glance over to where the puma was, but the big cat was still down. Frodo figured the thing was dead, but he couldn't have been more wrong. He was distracted from checking it by the site of Luna licking at her paw, which seemed to be slightly injured, and he took a step back to let her clean it, and get back on her feet by herself. He did not really want or need to intrude on her now, after all, he'd done his bit.

Nothing stopped him from grinning, however, as she thanked him. It was nice to be thanked. It made his pride well up and eyes glisten with something excited. My pleasure. It be the appeasement of my troubles. Story of my life. Yer get me? he chuckled bashfully, and then watched her head turn from him to the dead creature behind her. But no. He also looked in the direction she was staring at, and realised that the puma was not dead at all. It was getting to its feet. The site made Frodo slightly upset. He wanted to do something to help, for he felt slight sympathy for the creature that had been so hungry, it wanted to make a meal of a wolf. However, the only way to cure an arrow wound would be to pull it out. A perfect soloution if the arrow is in an arm or a leg...but the puma had no chance with it in it's neck. Too much blood would be lost. It would die in pain. So Frodo felt obliged to end it's misery.

Poor whippersnapper. the brute muttered. He suspected that Luna would not take kindly to him feeling sorry for the creature that attacked her, but all the same, he was not one to hide his feelings. And so gently, he lifted his bow for the final time, knocked arrow number 2 in place, and fired at the struggling Puma, through the heart. He knew that he needed to be precise, and could not make a mistake, and he managed just this as the Puma's life ended with a final gurgle. It could make good meat, Puma...perhaps a bit tough, and gamey, but food all the same. If yer help me drag it back ter camp, so to speak, ah will lend a paw on the mantlepiece wit' yer? he offered, heading over to see what he could lift of the puma. It was heavy, but not unbearable. He meant to say that if she helped him, he'd help her, but he was unsure whether she'd understand or not.

Her first reaction to the display of resistance of the feline (which was surprising, to say the least, since the projectile hit it directly in a vital point) was to crouch and growl, but a second arrow, shot from behind her, hit the animal's neck with such accuracy that, no more than a second later, the animal was laying on the floor, exhaling its last breath. Poor beast she thought, dying an unnecessary death. Frodo offered her his help if she aided him in the transportation of the body back to "the camp", which probably meant his house. Luna pondered about it for a couple of seconds. After all, he had helped her when she was in trouble. "I will help, but first..." She headed to reach the archer, who was apparently examining his kill. "I have to do something." And, placing a paw on the place where the puma's heart was, she began to mutter a small prayer.

Even before joining this pack, she was deeply respectful of life, and didn't really appreciate killing off another being when it wasn't necessary. So, following the tribe's guidelines, she proceeded to do the hunting ritual by telling a prayer, apologizing to the beast for taking its life and giving her best wishes to the soul on its journey to the spirit world. Under other circumstances, part of the body would've been buried, but that decision was not for her to make, for the kill had been performed for somebody else. Neither could she hold a grudge against Frodo. He had saved her from death, and for that, she was deeply grateful.

The prayer ended, and she opened a pair of compassionate, green eyes to meet Frodo's, this time smiling normally. Her voice was tranquil when she spoke, but a bit rough because of the sorrow within her chest. "I have finished, lets take the body already." She said, trying to imagine how would they manage to carry this heavy mass of muscles back to the Village. "Do you mind me shifting here? I doubt that I'd be able to carry the body like this." Injured and thumbless it would be almost impossible to lift so much weight, let alone move with it on her back. So, stepping aside, she closed her eyes and began the shifting process, impudic, not even caring about another's presence beside her. She was a fast shifter by nature, and it didn't take more than a few minutes for bigger, stronger muscles to pump up her body. Her injury still hurted, but she was sure that it wouldn't bother very much. "Now, hands to work." Paws she corrected herself and, before trying to lift the puma, she went to retrieve the kill that had costed her the life of another predator.
