Hotaru

Word Count → 458 :: Just outside CdA boarders

Spring had arrived, and so had the April showers. Just the other day, a large thunderstorm had passed through the Nova Scotia and had watered the flowering plants. Only days later and already the life giving storm had caused the flowers to bloom. The scent of pollen filled the air and the world took on a floral smell. The mud had dried up mostly, although there were still places that sloshed under the grey wolf's feet as she walked through the forest. Flying high above was Fawkes, his wing beats pounded against the air as he soared from tree to tree. Hotaru herself walked slowly and deliberately through the forest, a wooden staff in hand to help guide her and a bow slung across her back along with a quiver that held a full set of arrows.

Hotaru was by no means an archer. She knew how to use a bow, but she couldn't hit anything. The whole purpose of her expedition was to test the strength and durability of her creation. She moved with practiced steps through a familiar and well worn trail towards the boarder's of Cercatori d'Arte. Hotaru wanted to make sure that there would be no one around when she tested the bow, so a small clearing just outside of the pack was her destination.

Once the pair of hunters had reached the clearing, Fawkes took to the tallest tree stationed behind Hotaru and acted as a lookout. Hotaru braced her precious walking staff against a nearby tree as she moved towards the center of the clearing. The blind wolf had no way of knowing whether she was in the true center, however she knew the woods enough to at least have a good guess.

Red ears swiveled on her head as she searched for nearby canines while her nose searched for their scent. When Hotaru was confident that there was no one around she strung the bow that she had crafted and knocked a single arrow in place. With a complete lack of grace, she pulled the string back as far as she could. Hotaru repeated the motion several times as she tested the strength of her creation. Finally she released the arrow and listened to it fly. It landed fairly far, a soft squish to mark its location in the mud. Satisfied, the Tessitore di Sogno repeated the process several times. She had been working for almost half an hour, but had only released a half dozen arrows. Hotaru had paused several times, taking her carving knife to the bow to adjust its thickness and accuracy. Even so, she was not completely satisfied with the way it fired and a small frown touched her lips as she nocked another arrow in place.
