"Home," where the memories rest

It was almost becoming a regular habit for Rivers to go back to the Dampwoods whenever he felt, in a sense, homesick. He would tell himself frequently it was to feel at peace. Whenever he would return to the place where he hunted, and played, and spent time with his siblings, he felt a different kind of genuine happiness bubble up inside them. Even if they weren't physically there.

The only problem with all this was... It wasn't his true home. Home was much further down South. Home was where it was warm year-round, hardly ever snowing, and where the grass was always green. And ironically, home was where he could hardly remember anything. It had been so long since he was there, and he was so young when they moved up into Bleeding 'Souls.

Oh, he would give anything to actually make the trip to his true home. How wonderful it would be to feel the humid, Southern air in his face again. But Rivers knew very well that leaving his pack was not an option. No, he had to stay with Anathema, help with any chores they may of busied him with. So, for now, at least, his artificial home would have to do. Where most memories of his true home would lie if he was born there.

Today, though, the timber wolf had wandered a bit farther than usual, and was walking through the Sugarwoods, which were much less familiar. Perhaps he had stumbled upon the woods there as a child, but he couldn't really remember. The scent was different, signaling a pack was nearby. Rivers decided to not go much further, though, in hopes of not running into a particularly angry pack member that would bite his head off for stepping over their borders.

Adelle had been patrolling the borders, making sure that there weren't any enemies along there. She was not going to have them get into Casa on her watch! Unfortunately, her puppy nature kicked in at the sight of a squirrel, and without further thought had set off after it, barking as loudly as she could. The poor squirrel only saw a giant barreling object gunning for it before it set off across the forest as fast as it could. It climbed a tree faster than any squirrel had to date, leaving Adelle at the base, jumping and barking up to it, wishing that it would come down.

After a short time of this Adelle moved on, tail wagging as she set about exploring the forest. It didn't occur to her that she might want to head back, or that it might be dangerous in any way. She was just happy where she was, playing in the slushy snow and chasing after the birds and squirrels that came across her path. The scent of a wolf drew her attention, and Adelle charged after it. Thick fur stood up, doubling her size to that of a gigantic wolf instead of an average sized one as she usually appeared. Barking she ran out before the wolf she'd smelled.

A small sigh escaped Rivers' lips as he stopped for a moment, looking around. There was slushy snow still melting, which was expected, he supposed, and the forest seemed rather... quiet. But that soon changed as he heard a peculiar bark from the north. Narrowing his two-colored eyes, the man squinted off into the distance in an attempt to see the reason behind the noise, but after a while, it faded. Shrugging it off, he cleared his throat and went on.

Perhaps it was time to go back. He was already a ways from Anathema, and it would get dark soon enough. If he didn't manage to get home before the falling of the sun and the rising of the moon, however, he could always find a nice, isolated brush somewhere along the way, get some sleep and food, and continue the next morning. It wasn't a big deal; he had done this once before, a time when he was the newcomer in his pack.

However, as he was turning to go back, he froze at the sound of the barking. But this time, it was heading toward him. Quickly turning his body to face it, he bent his knees into a defensive posture, which was flexible enough to move if need be, but sturdy enough to support him if the source of the barking was taking the offensive. A scent wandered into his nostrils, and by the smell of it, it belonged to a younger canine. One of the pack he smelled earlier. Maybe the pack that was on the other side of the Sugarwoods, but regardless, he probably had gone too far, after all. Oh, this would be fun.

ooc deeply sorry about late reply

A silver wolf came into view, and Adelle skidded to a halt. The stance was solid from what Adelle could see. The pup was unaware that she was most likely strong enough to knock him down without much thought from her size and weight. He did look on the small side. This stranger wasn't nearly as large as the members of her pack, ending up looking rather petite in Adelle's eyes. Used to living among giants Adelle was unaware that he was on the more normal end of the size scale compared to her pack mates.

Still acting as large as possible Adelle stalked along the ground, drawing an invisible line between her and him. She was defending the pack, even if it was actually a fair distance off, and she would do it with every breath she had. I'm Adelle. Who are you? The grand introduction Adelle had wanted to give didn't translate very well into english. The language barrier was a nuisance, really. She wished that he just could speak danish so that she didn't have to work so hard figuring out what was being said.
