The Gamma was, unsurprisingly, anxious.

He paced on his strange two legs, hands clasped around the small, broken body of two little rabbits. Shandom clung to them like a lifeline, comforted to feel their small bodies between his strong paws. They were a gift, and so he would not cause them undue harm - indeed, the rabbits themselves were barely touched. Shandom had killed them rather easily and without much of a blood bath, and it had taken away the excitement of the hunt. But he did not want any gift he presented to Naniko to be anything less than what she deserved, which were lovely things. He'd even gone so far as to tie a ribbon and bow around their necks, a strange tradition he'd noticed in the more humanized packs.

Of course, it wasn't a well constructed bow. Neither of them were. They were clumsily tied together and rather hideously colored - Shandom had found the shoestrings (though he did not know their true name) partially buried under some dirt, and had eagerly gnawed them apart with hungry teeth. The ends were rather frayed as a result, but the alabaster Gamma spent several hours sitting in his bipedal form under a tree, dark eyes narrowed in concentration as he tried, over and over, to tie the bow he'd been shown so many months ago by the woman Saxif. The golden girl had been his first experience in Optime form, and he thought of her with fondness - it was a pity he'd never seen her again, as she had been sweet and funny. Shandom had enjoyed speaking with her, and participating in other elicit activities together. They'd had an electricity, of sorts.

But he was not here to think about her - no, he was at the borders of Anathema to visit Naniko, and he was eager to see her. Many moons had passed since their last meeting, but both were busy - she with her leader duties, he with his Gamma responsibilities. Shandom had made this time to see her, though, and would have been slightly crushed if she weren't there to answer his call. It was a thought he'd only really considered once he'd actually arrived at the borders of Anathema, and, standing barely outside the pack, he wondered if he'd made the right decision. Regardless, the white man tossed his head up to the sky and let out a booming call, requesting her presence and identifying himself.

And then he waited.

She's unshifted =3 and in lupus!

Her heart had fallen a bit as the months had gone by; it seemed that Barrett wasn't going to be coming back any time soon. Judas had been acting more dejected than ever over the last couple of months as visits from his father had lessened. She'd tried to spend more time with him, but the boy had nearly attacked her the last time she had tried to hold a conversation with him that involved emotions or him telling her how he felt about Barrett leaving the territory. He'd asked her if she regretting having him and his brothers, because their father had now left them all behind...and she'd answered honestly. No, she didn't regret them, and that Barrett's disappearance wasn't his or his brothers' fault. That had seemed to piss him off, though, somehow. She wouldn't try to guess how the mind of a young male worked.

She missed the companionship that the male had brought with him. Naniko hadn't been able to buy much of the drug off of him before he'd chosen to take off, either, so now she would need to be looking for a new source. The Angela looked out over the mountainside with a sigh. She'd picked an area that did have a few strips of fertile soil, but not as much as some of the other pack territories. She had claimed the mountain itself, gaining its protection in exchange for giving up other pieces of land that could have been used to grow crops.

The female had been testing herself lately, having grown tired of the day to day routine that life in Anathema sometimes brought. She would spend some days in her optime form doing tasks, and others in her lupus. However, Naniko did not favor the halfling form as much, feeling that it was the most unnatural and most difficult to get used to. She would spend each day training in that form, trying to improve her skills and make both forms feel natural to her once more. Shandom had some influence on that, with his love of his natural form - she'd realized after leaving his territory last that if she were caught in her lupus form, she'd be quite vulnerable. The thought had stirred a desire for change within the Angela, and a desire to master skills in both forms.

She thought she was hearing things when a howl reached her ears, coming from the border area. The voice was easily recognized, but what was the meaning behind his visit? She hadn't managed to get any presents out to New Dawn despite wanting to...she'd been too busy. Maybe he'd come back to see if she had anything to give, now. She swallowed guiltily and began to pad toward the border, quickening her pace as the ground evened out in front of her. The mountain cast a long shadow over her as she went, jade eyes looking over the border area. Her nose worked hard as well, trying to locate him. "Shandom?" She called, certain that he was somewhere nearby.

Waiting was honestly the worst part of just about anything. Shandom desperately wanted his four legs again, to be able to pace freely and feel less unnatural than he did now, but it worried him to be in such a form in Anathema. He felt vulnerable that way, like an outsider who was sneered upon for his strange ways. It was bizarre to him that such a mentality existed, but there was nothing he could do about the culture of others. They were allowed to live their life as they so chose, but Shandom wanted nothing more than to be in his own, natural way again so he could move back and forth comfortably.

Instead, he stood upon his two legs and paced back and forth before deciding he looked rather silly. Sighing, the male sank to the ground on his two legs and curled up as naturally as he could. He looked rather ridiculous lying there with his arms tucked neatly underneath himself and legs tucked similarly, but from a distance he might look like he were in his natural, four legged form. Of course, his head looked strange and he was downright massive compared to what he normally looked like, but there was nothing he could do. Shandom did not want to shift and run the risk of having someone come while he was in such a vulnerable state. This would have to do - he'd seen Zalen in such a state before, and the idea was rather useful, if not for him on a daily basis.

Soon the wind caught and he smelled Naniko before he heard her. A wide smile broke across his dark lips and he lifted himself on to all fours, tail waving back and forth rather frantically as his dark eyes canvassed the area, eagerly seeking the Angela. He luckily realized that he'd discarded the rabbits to the ground and snatched them up in eager teeth, suddenly grateful for his increased size so he could hold both. Of course, he looked rather ridiculous - but it didn't matter to the New Dawn Gamma. Every time he saw Naniko he was in some sort of an absurd state, so this would be no different. Her voice came quickly after her scent, seeking him, and he barked loudly before actually forming words. "I'm over here!" he called, though the words were muffled and barely intelligible through his mouthful of rabbit. She wasn't far, so the Gamma shook his head and decided to bound over to her. Long legs brought him within sight of her quickly, and his tail beat the air faster as he approached her.

"Hey, friend," Shandom mumbled through his mouth of rabbit, dropping them at her feet before giving her a wide grin. He assumed he had to look rather strange, perched on four limbs yet still in his bi-pedal form. "I brought you some rabbits." His smile was shy and eager as he nudged them with his dark nose. "To say thanks for last time."

Something that she especially struggled with while in lupus form was hunting. It was something that she'd had to learn how to do as a pup, but once she had shifted Naniko had left many of those skills behind as she'd taken preference of her Optime form. The female was always looking for something new to learn and work on, and was always looking for new ideas on ways to do things. Relearning the past was her newest focus.

Naniko looked this way and that, trying to spot Shandom. She heard the familiar tilt of his voice before he came into view, the male having been downwind of her, and she pranced a few circles around him when she did catch sight of him. It really was him! The last time that they'd seen one another she'd tried to play a few pranks on him...but today she'd try to keep those in check. She sat down in front of him, noting the oddity of his form and position as she looked at what he'd brought with him.

Rabbits! Delicious, succulent rabbits! That distracted her from his form for a moment, listening to his words. He'd brought them for her? No way! Naniko's tail waved quickly behind her. She wasn't sure how to greet him and left that part off, for now. She didn't know if what she'd done when they had parted last had been appropriate, and didn't want to push her luck and make him leave. "Oh, wow! I haven't been given a gift like this in a while. And they're all prettied up, too!" It must have taken a lot of thought and effort on his part, to get those strings around their necks. She was quite impressed! As he nudged the rabbits for she made to lean forward, wanting to give his nose a lick, but managed to stop herself at the last moment.

"Is that the only reason you came by?" She'd told herself that she wasn't going to tease him, but the words slipped out. "And you look a bit..interesting today" She probably did too, as Naniko had spent little to no time in this form previous to knowing Shandom. In her lupus form she was still quite large, with long white fur that draped off of her. She was a clean canine and always had been, though her ankles sometimes got a bit muddy despite that. She didn't have the looks of a beauty, not as she would classify one...but she got by.

Word Count → 419 :: omg he's such a shameless flirt.

A wide grin was spread across his alabaster muzzle as Shandom reveled in the attention Naniko lavished on the rabbits. "Thanks," he murmured, dark eyes briefly flitting to the dead creatures. "I'd hoped you'd enjoy them." They were small things, really nothing particularly extravagant, but the New Dawn Gamma found that he was quite fond of the smile that lit up her face, and how it brought joy to her jade green eyes... He found himself staring at her rather intensely, with a far away expression in his own colored pools, his smile shrank to something smaller and more sincere as he considered the woman before her. She was strong and lovely in her own way - not stereotypically beautiful, but her feminine wiles were enhanced by her inherent power. She was the kind of woman Shandom was fascinated by, a girl who could make him pause in his daily search for sexual conquest and carnal satisfaction.

With a quick spurt of bravery, Shandom pressed his cool, dark nose to Naniko's cheek, a typical form of greeting where he was from but one that also seemed slightly out of sorts with the more humanized woman. He drank in her scent, deeply memorizing it so he would know exactly what he was looking for the next time he came to Anathema to see his favorite Angela. "I came to see you. It'd been too long," the Gamma murmured, his dark voice low and husky as he spoke rather closely to her ear. But he drew back, and his characteristically goofy grin returned. "And, as per usual, I look ridiculous. I figured you'd be on two legs, so I thought I'd make it easier on us both and shift this way. But, as you're not..." The male paused, and cast his gaze around momentarily to ensure that Naniko was the only presence around. His eyes and nose betrayed nothing sinister, and so the male returned his gaze to the white woman. "Give me a moment."

The cracks of bone and the condensing of muscle soon filled the air as Shandom's form curled rather absurdly into itself. The untamed mane that fell around his face retracted backwards, and his opposable thumbs (useful though they were for tying bows and the like) returned to their natural paw-shape. His shifting process was not a long one, and though several minutes passed he found himself quickly in his four legged form. "That's better," the scarred male grinned when the ordeal finished, stretching himself out luxuriously.

It wasn't very often that she received presents, but when she did she cherished them. The necklace that her daughter had made her still hung around her neck, having replaced the one that Jazper had given her as a token of his friendship in the past. She had hated to hang that beautiful ruby up and put it away, but at the same time the necklaces had not matched and she wanted to show Caprica how much she appreciated her gift as well. It suited Naniko - the three intertwined rings brought visions of herself, Alaki, and Aeron to mind - the three leaders of the Anathema pack.

The pack meant everything to her. There had been a time in her past when she'd thought that she needed no one and nothing. She'd relinquished hold of herself in the forest and become a wild and untamed animal that knew nothing but eating, sleeping, and killing. She'd lost her mind, bit by bit, until she had chosen to come back to civilization. Ehno and Geneva had been the ones to pull her from that hazy stupor and drag her back into pack life. Ever since then, she'd remained with one group or another. If she ever lost Anathema, she didn't know what she would do. Naniko had been born to live and lead a pack. It was who she was.

His nose on her cheek nearly made her shudder, a reaction that she couldn't control. It was cold, but its presence there was not unwanted. She gave him a quick smile of encouragement, not wanting him to think that she didn't welcome the gesture. "I have a feeling I will...I haven't seen such nice fat hares in a long time" She said back, a teasing edge to her alto tone. At his words about her form, she grinned. "I've been trying to take your advice and live a little more simply, you know? I lost a lot of my skills in this form by using my two-legged one so much. So I've been trying to get better at hunting, fishing, and other things in this form. You don't look ridiculous, though - all forms suit you."

He seemed happier in his lupus form. She looked away politely while he shifted, jade eyes moving from the sky to the ground and then down to the hares at her feet. It had been very kind of him to bring them - she'd have to show some kind of appreciation for it later on. Perhaps she'd cook them for the two them, or offer him a bauble from her den. Her den. Would she bring him that far into Anathema? He was a friend and would be allowed if he was with her, but she didn't want her pack members to scare him off, either. Some Anathemans could be quite odd. "How are things in New Dawn? It seems like spring's come to an end, but it hasn't gotten too terribly warm. Perfect weather." She began awkwardly.

Shandom shot Naniko his trademark toothy smile, alabaster tail eagerly beating the wind as he shook himself to free the strange tingling that lingered in his newly compressed muscles. He hadn't gotten a chance to respond to her before he shifted onto four legs, a move that had restored his sense of balance. His four feet felt so much sturdier, his body so much more normal - the Dawn Gamma was meant to exist like this. Whatever strange trick the Gods had pulled on the race of wolves would remain eternally lost on the man. Shandom would never be fully comfortable in his bipedal form and would never resort to living a life that existed solely on two legs. Thumbs were handy, and he liked them for when it came to activities that required a little more dexterity than nature originally intended, but paws would suffice for the most part.

He hadn't actually responded to her comments before shifting, so the Gamma chose to begin his speaking there. Then again, Shandom liked to speak whenever given any sort of opportunity, as long as he was comfortable. He had an itching feeling that Dawn members thought him to be reclusive and perhaps a little more cantankerous than he actually was. Certainly, Shandom was not the most forthcoming of wolves, but Naniko wiped away the reservations and brought forth the gregarious creature that now stood before her. Thanks, he grinned, shaking his head one last time to clear himself of the slight buzzing that remained. I try and be as handsome as possible at all times. Never know who you're going to run into. The Gamma was, of course, being slightly sarcastic, though he knew himself to be a handsome specimen. Scarred, but still... The remnants of the handsome Alpha he'd once been lurked beneath his tattered facade.

New Dawn is well. I'm the Gamma there now - I suppose that makes sense, considering I'm one of the oldest ones in the pack, and one of few with any leadership experience. Makes me a good adviser, I suppose, he remarked, rather flippantly adding the little tidbit about his past. He regretted it as soon as he said it, dark eyes briefly flitting away from Naniko's as his thoughts were consumed by Etienne. How fares Anathema?

Perhaps the hunting in New Dawn was better than the hunting in Anathema; they likely owned more forests and flat-land, whereas Naniko had decided to conquer Halcyon. They didn't normally have trouble finding prey, but she had the feeling that they'd have even more success in an area that was more flat. Her tail wagged back and forth as he shifted back, waiting for it to end and for him to continue speaking.

Naniko did not know what made a canine more beautiful or handsome, only that she thought him to be so. It was a simple perception - there were things about him that she noticed and that made her feel even more pleased with him. His scars were what really did it for her, for some reason. Without them, she didn't know if she would find him all that handsome, physically. Naniko's perception of whether a canine was better-looking than average didn't have much of a hold when it came to who she chose in romantic partners. Personality was a must, and good-looks were less important.

So his comment made her laugh. Did he really try to make himself look handsome for others? "For everyone? Or just me?" She chuckled. She listened as he described how the pack was doing. She almost regretted not having given them that gift...but she'd worry about that later on. She had many things in her den, perhaps Shandom could help her pick something that the leaders would find suitable.

She was not surprised to hear that he'd been promoted, but let her next comment loose nonetheless. "I see. I guess you could say they owe me then, right? I got their gamma out of a fix, once" Naniko gave him a wink, grinning toothily. "But no, really. I can see why they'd promote you. I would, if I were them. A smart, good-looking fellow like you would do any pack good." Naniko said honestly, her expression turning a bit more serious.

When she had come to the borders of New Dawn, he hadn't been sure if he should let her come in. She had no qualms about him coming in to see Anathema, though, as the Angela. She normally only asked that guests be accompanied by a pack member. That way, if she ever saw a canine from another pack who she did not recognize, she could discern them as being a spy rather than a guest. "Come see for yourself" She offered when he asked of the pack, nodding her head in the direction of the dens.

Word Count → xx ::i'msorryi'msorryi'msorryi'msorry!! PP'd her moving into the lands, is that ok? Also, this sucks and I suck.

He felt different around Naniko than he did the other women in his pack. It was strange that he was only really acknowledging this as he stood outside her borders, far removed from the beautiful region he called home, but Naniko made his heart beat just a little bit faster, flurry a little more in anticipation of her next words. And - oh, her words! They spilled from her lips easily and with confidence, and they were not twirled with the frivolous niceties so many other women worked so hard to incorporate into their tones. Shandom's dark lips were curved into a contented smile at the mere sound of her words - the Angela relaxed him in a way he hadn't quite been famliar with since losing his Lea.

Oh, Lea - his Lea. What would she think of this, the feelings he knew could come to fruition if he spent more time with the pale woman? He knew his father - Farax, not Gyek - would approve of such a match, even if he never truly knew the man. But she was white like him, and had the loveliest green-jade eyes. They could, in time, show up in the Qi'Vaex line. Lea, though, might have felt jealousy at oine point. Perhaps then she would have understood how he felt to see her with Jax, to see her golden eyes transfixed on a male who shone like the sun despite his lowly status in a pack where the balance of power tipped towards Shandom himself. She had never loved him like that, had not loved him because of his stately position - no, even with all his power and knowledge, Lea had never given herself over to him. That was all he'd ever really wanted.

But the Gamma could not afford to lose himself in a world that no longer existed, and he slipped back into the life he had created for himself. I suppose they do owe you, he smiled easily, dark voice a shade lower than normal for no reason he could articulate to himself. What would they do without my rugged good looks to get them through the day? At some point I'll have to repay Anathema - pretty ladies should not be the ones doing all the saving. At least, not in the stories I heard as a child. It was true - Etienne had been a very male dominant culture, and though he'd never really thought about it , he supposed the womanizing traits he'd constantly been prone to were evidence of such an upbringing.

The Gamma was deeply honored that Naniko would let him into the lands, and he shot her a grateful and earnest smile. I'd love to see it, he said, laughing slightly as he began to trot after her in the general direction of the dens. I'm honored you'd let me see it. Lead the way, Naniko, my friend!

She was a canine with experience; her years of life had given her that. Still, the idea that she would turn six in a few moons was a little hard to swallow. Would that make her old? When was a canine considered that, anyway? The oldest one that she'd ever had the chance to meet had been Kaena, who had once led Inferni. Now a descendant of hers did, as far as Naniko knew. But even in Kaena's old age, her scarred face had been gorgeous in Naniko's eyes. Maybe it was that she simply preferred a more rugged appearance. One could not help who they found chemistry with, but perhaps ruggedness was something that attracted her on a subconscious level.

Naniko was excited to show him the place that she lived in, the life that she'd made for herself within the confines of the mountain. To outsiders it probably seemed odd, wolves living in a big system of tunnels and endless caves...but she knew the true value of it. A place where one could stay warm in the winter, cool in the summer...and most of all, dry. And he was interested in coming in! What a great day. They began to pad toward it, and she found herself responding back to what Shandom had first said. "Pretty, hm? You must be speaking of another." She said cheekily, before quickly changing the subject. "I never got to hear stories like that...my parents left, then my adoptive mother took off as well. Didn't have much time for them in the day-to-day. You should tell me one while we walk"
