step into the limelight

The small woman was tiny no longer. Her figure had begun to fill out and her pregnancy was more than apparent. She still hadn't spoken with anyone at length about the upcoming litter. She feared still that the pups would not make it, ignoring the truth was better in her mind that falling for hope only to have ones dreams crushed. The small woman had climb into one of the trees they had been working on the wooden perches in. The work was smooth under her paws and satisfactory, real work, real things they had created that they could use. Already she was imagining hunting from the treetops, for their enemies as well as prey. A wicked smile broke across her maw as she laid out upon the thick wide oak branch.

The small burdens within her swollen abdomen protested this change to her world and proved it so by the soft flutter of movement and kicks from within. She growled, laying a hand upon the swell as she shifted her position to curl about the mass. She knew that she should stop trying to ignore the fact and embrace the children within..but she feared the death of the litter, or even her own death if things turned south. Life was never fair, why should it start now.

.

The yearling felt more carefree these days as the days she had been attacked became farther and farther away, she could feel herself slowly embracing the sun within that had been trying to claw out of her chest for the past few weeks. It was a nice feeling, to be happy again. A soft smile adorned the mottled muzzle of the girl as the rays of the morning sun settled on her pelt, silently padding through the packlands. The earth beneath her feet was still damp from the morning dew and sprang back sightly when she took another step, it feeling cold under her paws. Slender hands hung loosely at her side, swinging slightly with the movement of her body. One clawed hand sought out her herb satchel hanging on a makeshift belt at her side and pausing she curiously picked through it, taking a mental inventory of what she had..

.

Her mission today was to collect herbs and maybe float out into the unclaimed land to learn more about her trade, she had spoken to the clan healer a few short times in passing, gaining some important information here and there and those she stored in her mind greedily. Almost everyday she reminded herself of the herbs she had, the herbs she needed, and their uses. With this knowledge she had even sped up her own healing and was completely healed by this time. Her scars still hung about her body with start contrast to her fur, a pale pink sitting on the tan, chocolatey tones but she tried to ignore them..

.

Various wooden necklaces bounced on her chest from her movement, partly hiding her chest scars and a dagger was in it's holder on her thigh, covering for the most part her more serious scar, but it was the one on her back that she couldn't hide. The thick skin interruption followed her spine closely, from the top of her neck to the base of her tail, this one was the one she was most self-conscious about. A new scent entered the area she was traveling and Emma paused, raising her maw and inhaling the scents lingering in the air. It seemed another pack member was on a morning tryst, one that she hadn't met before. Smiling, she followed the scent..

.

It took a few minutes of traveling but the woman reached the forest soon enough, harks perked curiously atop her wheat crowned head. Soft curls bounced as she looked around, frowning slightly. Where was she? By the hormones hanging about in the air she was with child, and this concerned the progressing-healer, this woman shouldn't be this far out with companionship due to those damnable wolves. A songbird was heard in the trees and Emmanuelle lifted her head skyward, mis-matched eyes happening to focus on the female she was searched for, laying peacefully on a thicker tree branch. " Hello! " The youth called out in a friendly tone, waving to the fellow clan member.

The tiny excuse for a woman had heard the stranger's voice but had ignored her traipsing about down below.. until the other female had spotted her. The pygmy Lykoi closed her eyes for a moment but she knew it would not close her out from the other's view as she wished. Instead she knew she should play fair and be polite to the other. It took her a few moments to finally get the will to actually look to the other but when she did she sighed softly.

The creature below had grace and beauty like she knew she would never have. She wondered if her newly titled mate had gazed upon her and found flaw in the woman.. though she had laid claim to his heart she wasn't certain if his eyes always remembered where they were suppose to be gazing. The thought was pushed aside as she finally recognized the woman, she had seen her in passing and knew they shared the same duties within the clan, even if they weren't wholly of the same rank. She nodded down to her to show she'd heard her but she didn't yet move from her perch.

"Hello.." she said softly, her eyes roaming over the other's form, taking in her scent and that of the herbs she carried. She wondered why the other carried so many, if even in small amounts on her but she refrained from asking just yet. Instead she continued on with other items of conversation. "What are you up to today.." She was probably up to the exact same thing Zana should be doing but the small woman had decided to wait until it grew darker in the day to perform her duties to the clan. It wasn't as easy to move about as it had been earlier in the year and she figured that any cloak she had in the darkness would be an advantage.

Mis-matched eyes waited eaglerly for some sort of acknowledgement from the older, higher in rank pack member but was somewhat dissapointed when her own enthusiasm wasn't met in the same manner. Crossing her arms, she glanced down at the ground, scraping the surface with a foot as her large tan ears rose to meet the words of the other, a greeting then the customary question of ones actions. Shrugging, she looked back up at the pregnant woman, not truely aware of how small she was at the moment. " Well, I planned to look for herbs and whatnot, scout, then maybe dip into the lands beyond the border to look for more plants Inferni clan lands don't host. "

Gesturing to her pockets, she grinned at the woman above her. " I also need to compare freshness and check my own stock for staleness. I helped a little bit in the healing of the attacks and whatever I had was mostly used up. " Pausing, she decided to stop there. Chances were that her fellow clan member wasn't particularily interested in all the small details, but possibly the bigger picture. " Are you aware of any useful plants within the lands? " She asked somewhat hopefully, raising her hand to sheild her eyes from the sun that was steadily rising in the cloudless sky, one of the few they had lately. April and may were prime month for showers.

Reaching into one of the many pockets attached to her belt, she retreived a piece of dried, seasoned rabbit meat and chewed on it softly, her mind deep in thought. If she wanted to do it simply, she could run back to the greenhouse and poke her nose in there, but she felt like she should be bringing back stuff for the clan, not taking it. Plus the greenhouse was probably low in stock as well, maybe the garden-warrior should start taking part in it's upkeep.

She knew she shouldn't have asked. The clan really didn't seem thrilled about their scouts and members spreading out too far beyond the borders right now and here was one with the intent of doing just that. Zana was quiet for a second as the other spoke before she gave up testing the hunting, scouting perch and gave a slight sight. She rolled to her side and collected the bo she never left the mansion without these days. The leather thong that her blow tube and darts bounced upon her chest as she swiftly made her decent from the tree to stand beside the tall woman.

Her grey lilac eyes turned up to the taller fae as she spoke finally. "Then I believe you'll need company.. since we have no clue where these monsters are denning outside our lands." she growled slightly at the idea and ignored her swell of an abdomen as she checked the small bag that crossed one hip. The bag contained small tools to help in collecting poisonous plants and venom without the toxins touching her skin. She glanced up at the other as she added. "Besides, if you are looking for herbs I should probably see what flowering plants have come into bloom before I can no longer leave the clan lands.." She adjusted her supplies and swept the bits of bark from her pelt in short brisk motions as she waited for the other woman to decide.

Zana paused a second as she smiled slightly. "I know what plants you don't want to collect, though I am versed enough in common plants that can aide in healing and health too..." She pulled a small twig from her mane as she added. "I'm Zana.. by the way.." knowing that if they were about to head out of the lands they should at least know one another better than hey you.

Chocolate ears perked forward as the pygmi woman descended from the tree, her bulge apparent as she stood next to Emma. Emmanuelle regarded her with interest, smiling at her words. It would be nice to have company, she hadn't really thought of that. It was actually rather foolish on her part, but being young and brash she frequently didn't think of the consequences of her actions. Althought the smaller fae was obviously pregnant, she had heard about Zana's exploits here and there from other packmembers, and knew though small she was fierce, and she was just the person Emmanuelle wished to have accompany her to dangerous places. It was generally a rule in these parts not to judge someone on their size, especially Luperci. Many had other ways of compensating for their size.

Her interest was piqued, however, when the russet-hued woman mentioned plants she wouldn't want to collect... What did that mean? " You mean poisonous ones? " She asked, her voice clearly showing curiosity. The pale she-witch had taught her some poisons although really they were just the healing properties of the few plants reversed. Her tail began to swing to and fro as the thoughts of learning more of healing and poisons excited her. Nodding her head to the females words of knowing about healing as well she began to walk more into the forest, figuring they would be able to find some willowbark somewhere along with other such plants.

Zana? That was a pretty name. " I'm Emmanuelle Brenna, though you can just call me Emma, Zana. " She said, tone friendly. Uncertainly, she looked back at Zana as her gaze dipped to her extended stomach. " You know.. " The mottled woman began, gaze traveling back to the path in front of them. " When you have your pups, if you need any assistance I'd be glad to help. Enekiel is going to help me become another healer of the pack.. " She felt uncomfortable saying that, only purely because she didn't know the woman well and she didn't want to intrude on something as special as birth, though she felt with the size of the woman that there might be complications, and this thought she kept to herself for now, not wanting to offend Zana.

Her wheat colored curls bounced as she walked and her paws left slight imprint in the spongy earth, and she began to carefully look for healing plants, her gaze picking through the weeds and branches for anything of value to her pack. " Where do you suggest we look, and what for? " Came the question from her mottled maw, her mind sifting through what little knowledge she held for such things that rooted around this area.

Zana did not speak often of her knowledge of the darker arts of herbs and venoms but she did turn her face towards the younger female as she confirmed the question placed between them. "Yes. Poisonous plants, venoms of snakes and other creatures as well as any other misfortunes that can be turned into a weapon with the right skills." Ezekiel knew that her darts were often dipped in poison and once could safely assume that other tools she carried on her might as well be. She was a dangerous creature because the world made her thatway. She had to find a way to adapt, to survive and she did.

She looked at the woman a moment as she repeated the name. "Emma..." but in a flash the somewhat semibalance of clan friendship was turned on end as the conversation was switched to the young that grew inside her. grey lilac orbs turned cold as she stated flatly. "There is little chance of them surviving.. there will be no need of a healer.. Enkiel or another." The flash of anger in her eyes was a warning. She would not dive deeper into the subject but she wouldn't turn the woman away because of something she couldn't help. The tiny woman sighed softly and turned her attention towards the task before them.

Emma's voice cut through her thoughts as she peered into the woods before them. She took a moment before she finally decided. "Lets go looking for a certain tree..its like a pine tree.. it's limbs have flat stems and flat leafs; and white stripes on the backside of the leaves.." She had a feeling they would be needing a lot of the Fir sap if the war persisted. She turned towards Emma as she asked. "What do you want to know.. of the more dangerous type of plants about these lands.." She knew sooner or later the woman would ask, she might as well get it out now.
