High pitched growls and loud yips rang through the valley and drowned out any other sound. Lucia and Kohaku wrestled tirelessly, their small bodies tumbled in the grass. Lucia was dominated the fight, her tiny jaws latched onto Kohaku's paw and her tail wagged furiously. The young pair played under the watchful eye of their mother, her much larger body rested against the outer walls of their den. A broad smile was stretched across Kiara's face and her eyes glowed with warmth and love for her children. It was a gorgeous spring day, the cool air refreshed the wolves and a small breeze rustled the leaves. Atop her head, white ears twitched as they scanned for any signs of danger. Although the new family was relaxing, Kiara didn't dare let down her guard. The pack had disintegrated and took their protection with it.

As the afternoon sun began to dip towards the horizon, Kohaku and Lucia gave up on their fight and turned to their mother for food. Both had grown exponentially since their birth and had taken on the classic disproportionate look of young puppies. Kohaku ran towards Kiara and stumbled over his large paws. The small boy let out a yip as he fell face first into the dirt. Lucia paused to look at him and babbled something at him before turning her big blue eyes towards Kaira. The older wolf stood and guided her puppies into the den where she let them nurse for a little while before she left to hunt. All three of them needed meat, especially because Kiara had already started the puppies weaning process.

Kiara refreshed her personal boundary markers around her den before she set off towards the mountains. Her ears were high and alert while her nose searched for any hint of prey. Kiara had spotted a herd of deer the other day halfway up the mountains. She used her mental map and memory to track down their scent and followed the trail deeper into the mountain ranges. Soon, she had reached a line of dried flowers that once marked the boarder of Ichika territory. Just beyond, lie the herd. Kaira made no attempt to hide herself, and several dozen pairs of large brown eyes watched her intently. The huntress moved with a casual air at a slow trot, her tongue hung out of her mouth and bobbed as she moved. Sapphire eyes scanned the deer. The herd was a mix of does, yearlings, and fawns. Unfortunately, they all seemed to be healthy and hearty.

The yearlings grew tense as she moved around the herd, the scent of fear filled the air and enticed the hungry wolf. Even so she remained patient, she didn't want to run the herd if she didn't have too. However, there were no obviously weak individuals so Kiara changed tactics and charged. It was a yearling who started the stampede, its panic and inexperience too great for it to remain calm under the watchful eye of a predator. Kiara lunged forward, her eyes mostly on the fawns. One in particular caught her attention as it strayed too far from its mother. The huntress focused in on the fawn and surged forward, her shoulder screamed in agony as she pushed herself up the mountian.

The chase lasted only a minute, but the fawn made no mistakes and managed to return to its mother's side. Kiara slowed and stopped at the mountains peak, her sides heaving as the pain died away. The arctic wolf watched helplessly as her prey bounded down the mountain slope and away from her hungry jaws.

Saul Chibi is by Requiem!

He'd tried to hold out as long as possible. The anxiety had built in his body until he couldn't hold it in any longer. He could still remember the feeling of her body pressed against his, the dark flush of desire through both of them as his lips had brushed against her, softly at first and then harder and harder until he felt the need to press her so close that they merged into one, became one person. Of course, this desire had been quenched as she'd stepped away from him, an unreadable expression on her face. She'd turned away from him, professing how sorry she was, before disappearing into her hut. He'd stood there for a long time, staring at the door and trying to figure out what had happened. He hadn't seen her properly to speak to her in more than a week. The dawn of the second week of her avoidance had come and he'd quickly realised that she wasn't there. He'd held out for two days before he'd told the camp that he was going scouting around in the woods and he would be back tomorrow.

He hadn't meant to go this far- he'd followed her scent trail until she'd crossed the river and he hadn't been able to find her after that. The desperation had dissipated for the moment, a dull ache in his stomach. She'd run away from them, but he had the feeling that she would be back. The looming mountains had caught his attention however and his paws had taken themselves forward. Curiosity peaked and he wondered what remained of the pack that he'd helped to create. He was thinking about creating another pack with his family, but he wondered what was happening to these lands now they were in the charge of someone so different. He crested the mountains, as he'd done so many times before, as the sun dipped below the horizon and he was momentarily dazzled by the sun in his eyes.

It only took a few moments for him to recover, and as he did so, the flash of white in a sea of brown panic caused him to focus on the scene. A hunting wolf, looking lean and a little desperate, caused him to frown. They were on their own it seemed, and Saul felt that he should perhaps help them out a little. He stopped, watching as the white wolf made their way up the mountain, chasing the deer towards him. It was perhaps the perfect ambush. As the fawn, whom the wolf had been chasing, returned to its mothers side, Saul crept closer, silent on the landscape in the bleating of the deer wishing to be reassured by one another. It was easy to creep closer, unnoticed and blending nicely into the background, before he took a lunge, jaws closing on the fawn's hamstring, locking his jaw and digging his paws into the ground as the fawn screamed in pain and shock. He needed a little help from the white wolf now, else the fawn would wrench free soon enough.

Woops forgot that XD

It wasn't unusual for a hunt to fail, especially when one was hunting on four legs and alone. Kiara tried her best not to be discouraged, but she was desperate to return to her den as quickly as possible. As the fawn moved farther and farther away the young mother's mind began to focus on her next target. Should she look for another herd and try to grab another fawn? Or should she go after smaller prey that was easier to grab. On one hand, the fawn would be a decent meal for her and her pups. On the other, she was more likely to get rodents than a fawn. However, rodents and fish took time to hunt simply because she would have to eat several dozen in order to state her and the puppies hunger. Kiara was deep into her thoughts and the sudden appearance of another wolf startled her and the deer.

A massive, lupus male appeared suddenly out of the bushes and grabbed onto the fawn's hindquarters. The young mother stood in shock as she watched him struggle for a few seconds with the panicked fawn. Kiara shook her head and surged forward. She was much smaller than the stranger, but she was lithe and quick on her feet. Pain spread through her shoulder as she rushed down the mountain, but she continued to press forward and soon reached the struggling pair. Kiara wrapped her sharp fangs around the fawn and dragged it to the ground where its movements were silenced forever. Kiara let the deer hang loosely from her jaws for several moments, her reluctance to let go of the kill and need for the meat threatened to overcome her. Kiara watched the stranger warily, unable to recognize him as one of her former pack mates.

Eventually, the white wolf dropped the deer and let it's head fall to the ground. Kiara watched him nervously for any sign of dominance or claims to the kill. Her own body was stiff, her ears alert and her tail low. Kiara didn't want to fight the larger male for a kill, but neither did she just want to give it up. Her feral mind raced as she sized him up and wondered what her odds would be if a challenge for the meat did arise.

no worries sweety! and saul remembers kiara, even if they only met once.

Saul Chibi is by Requiem!

Thoughts of Lilin were forced to the back of his mind while his teeth sank so deep into the fawn's leg that Saul could almost feel his canines touching through its leg. The blood pouring onto his tongue was invigorating, even though he knew that his reason for launching himself at the deer was to help the white wolf out. Even from afar, Saul saw the almost desperation in its gait and he was only too happy to help. If he was able to get a small amount of meat from it, then that was a bonus. He needed to head back home soon- he hadn't found her and he should have known better than to look for her. She was perfectly capable of looking after himself. Belatedly, he realised his thoughts had done exactly what he thought they wouldn't- turned back to her. She consumed his thoughts and he forced himself to concentrate on the physical strain of keeping his feet planted as the fawn bucked. It might have been a yearling, but it was strong.

Green eyes were sucked over as a flash of white told him that the female, as her scent revealed her to be, rushed to help him. Her scent, washed over him in her charging ascent towards him, also revealed that she had young pups- their scents clung to her eagerly and were revealed just as easily. She was alone however- her scent was of a singular wolf, not the cloying scent of many others. A lone mother. Inside, he was now more than happy that he'd trusted his instincts and helped her. She collided with the fawn, fangs sinking in although Saul didn't quite catch which area the female went for. It took a few moments for the animal to stop writhing beneath him and instinct had Saul remaining where he was for a few seconds too long, the carcass gripped in both of their jaws.

It only took a few seconds for logical thought to come back and Saul unlocked his jaw, wiggling it painfully from the force he'd admitted in keeping the animal down. At the same time, they both dropped the carcass and it hit the floor. Green eyes were now free to watch the female closely, a sense of familiarity washing over him. She was clearly trying to avoid a confrontation, so he deliberately took three steps back and dipped his head. Its all yours He said simply, still trying to place in his mind where he knew the female from.

Kiara stood wary and watchful. Mealtime had always been the most stressful time in her birth pack and now that she had become a loner her mind had abandoned the Ichikan ways to favor those of her original pack. The luperci might call her feral, but she viewed herself as normal. Sapphire eyes watched closely as the male backed away from the carcass. His head dipped and he gave final conformation that she was in charge.

The young mother didn't need to be told twice. Her tail flew up and she dug into the meat with no reservations. Kiara moved quickly, her focus on the best cuts of meat housed within the abdominal cavity. The heart, the liver, the juicy pieces of food that were filled with proteins and vitamins. Somewhere in the back of her mind, Kiara recognized that she couldn't gorge herself on the fresh meat. There was another who deserved some of the food and Kiara kept an eye on him and wondered if or when he would assert his claim.

It was safe to say that the snowy mother didn't recognize the male before her. Although his piercing green eyes and multihued coat had not changed, it was his scent that threw Kiara for a loop. She did not recognize his scent and her brief meeting with him had been too short and was too long ago for her to remember him by. To Kiara, his was a strange luperci who she needed to be wary of.

Once Kiara was satisfied with her meal, although not nearly close to being sated, she stepped back to allow him access to the deer meat. The young mother turned her focus to herself and began to clean her white coat so that it was free of gore and blood. All the while, she kept one uneasy eye on the tawny male.

a wild muse appears -leaps-

Saul Chibi is by Requiem!

She didn't take long to make up her mind and within the fraction of a second it took her to assess his genuine submissiveness, she had launched herself forward towards the richest cuts of meat. He smiled softly, lowering his body to the floor and looking away from her gorging. She would need all the nutrients she could get, especially with pups. He was more than happy that he'd been able to help her out, a gentle smile on his lips as he closed his eyes softly. He had the feeling that he knew the female from somewhere, although there were a variety of white wolves out there that would fit the bill. The sound of her gorging caused his stomach to rumble softly, but he remained where he was, determined to allow the female to properly care for herself and the young she appeared to be caring for on her own.

His thoughts lapsed, but after a few moments, not long enough really, the sound of eating stopped and Saul looked up, pupils dilating as he opened them again and they adjusted to the light. He smiled, a warm smile as she backed away, perhaps having had enough. He sat up, moving to all four paws before sinking his teeth into the underdeveloped shoulder and neck muscles, ripping and tearing, devouring the food with a steady, methodical path. He knew that he would leave the rest of the carcass for the female, but he might as well eat while he was here. He paused, creamy muzzle stained pink for the moment.

I'm sorry miss, but you remind me of someone and I can't think who. What was your name? He asked, hoping she wouldnt be put off by his forwardness. He knew he knew her from somewhere, but his mind flicked through numerous faces, some harder to bear than others, before it came up blank. He glanced down at the deer again, returning his teeth to the muscle to wrench it from the bones, knawing on the meat now that his hunger wasn't so insistent.

The young mother's claim to the best cuts of meat went unchallenged and she was allowed to eat without any disruption. The male showed complete submission towards Kiara, and for that she was grateful. As a single mother, she couldn't afford a fight, especially with a bigger male. Once the arctic female had given him the go ahead, the stranger descended quickly onto the kill and ate his portion of the food. As he ate, Kiara focused on cleaning herself. Her lovely white coat had become stained with blood and the pendants around her neck shared the same fate.

White ears flicked as a question was directed her way and Kiara paused in her grooming. Sapphire eyes stared at the male, wondering if she had met him before. His scent wasn't from anyone she had known, but scents changed overtime. Kiara doubted that even her own mother would recognize her anymore. She had changed so much over the last seven months, the snow wolf had changed both mentally and physically. She had arrived at Nova Scotia as a wide-eyed naive young wolf who knew nothing of the world. She had become a single mother who had faced many dangers and received fearsome scars. She had both loved and hated with fierce intensity and both the greatest and worst moments of her life had happened after leaving home. "Kiara Amarok, and you are?"

Saul Chibi is by Requiem!

Their interaction was a quiet, unassuming affair. Their hunt had been a sudden, opportunistic affair with neither of them knowing the other or what would happen. But her scent had revealed the young mouths she had to feed, as well as the fact that she did not belong to any pack. She was in a much harder situation than Saul was, and he was more than happy to help her out. The only loose end with them now was who she was, because he felt certain that he knew her. Her description was fairly average- he was sure he could find a dozen white wolves with blue eyes in Nova Scotia. But there was something about her, a gut instinct that told him they had met before, even if just briefly. Her dark blue eyes fixed on him, perhaps trying to figure out if she knew him, before her voice came.

Like a lightbulb flashing, he put face and name together with a gasp. He remembered, the white wolf chasing the bull in Ichika. She had been playful then, but he supposed single parenthood would change the best of them. Saul had been lucky that he'd never been truly alone with Temeraire- if it wasn't Ichika as a whole, Nayru had looked after him, Saluce on occasion, and when he'd left the pack, Lilin and Ezra were there to watch. Now, at the Lakes, they were a tight knit clan and Temeraire was old enough to be trusted on his own. He took an unplanned step forward, head cocked to the side as he stared at her.

Kiara? From Ichika? I don't suppose you'd remember me- Saul Stormbringer. He said softly, a smile tugging his lips. He was pleased to see she was doing well, although he was a little puzzled by the lack of pack scent on her. Have you left Ichika? He asked, getting straight to the point. His tail gave a soft swish, tongue swiping over his lips to try and remove some of the blood, wondering if she'd remember him.

Kiara had been focused and completely consumed by the need to feed herself and get back to her den as quickly as possible. However, she was fed and there was still plenty of meat left on the carcass to feed her two puppies. There was still the urge to leave for her den, but she no longer had to worry about food for the next day or so. Kiara could hold out and the remaining meat plus her milk would be enough for Lucia and Kohaku.

With the urgency of her situation no longer so great, Kiara was able to afford some time to chat with the tawny male. Upon hearing her name, recognition flashed across his face and he let out a surprised gasp. He spoke softly and a smile played across his lips. Kiara took a moment to put the pieces together until she too recognized the male standing before her. A broad smile ran across her face and joy spread through her heart. "Saul!" She bounded forward as renewed sense of energy and happiness flooded her petite body. Her fluffy tail wagged in the air behind her as she showered her former pack mate with licks.

Finally, she stepped back with a gleam in her eyes. However, it soon died as he asked her if she had left Ichika. Her vision shifted down to his creamy paws and her tail dropped and stopped wagging. He doesn't know. Bravely, she took a deep breath and stared up into he green eyes. "Ichika is gone, its been disbanded." Sadness tugged at her heart as the truth was spoken. Kiara hated it, that her pack was gone that that she had been left alone with two puppies to care for. Although, to New Dawn's credit they were helping her, especially Tharin. The white female gave Saul a sad smile and tried to lighten the mood with some conversation. "So, how have you been? Its been a while since we last met."

Saul Chibi is by Requiem!

Saul watched, green eyes perhaps a little reproachful. He knew he wasn't the most memorable of people and he'd only spoken to Kiara once. He remembered her, now that she had put name to face. Of course, he shouldn't have worried. Green eyes watched her face, a look of confusion morphing into something akin to joy. She launched herself forward, across the carcass and he felt the tiny licks to his head. He chuckled softly, straitening his face for a moment before aiming a few greeting licks to her chin. It was good to see her, to see that she was still alive and well, for the most part. His name had burst from her lips and he'd laughed softly, revelling in the friendship of the moment. He hadn't realised how much he'd missed those whom he had once called brother and sister until this moment. She stepped back, although sapphire eyes danced with a glint of excitement perhaps, he wasn't sure.

It wasn't going to last long however as he asked if she'd left Ichika. He remembered his short meeting with Dalgina in the Dampwoods- she'd said that Jace and Temo had moved them. He had wondered what had happened for them to up and leave. Her head dropped and she looked towards his paws instead. It must be bad news. She spoke then, delivering the blow. He was shocked, his mouth opening softly and confusion washing over his face. She'd answered his question and it had opened up a whole myraid of other questions that he wanted answering. I'm sorry Kiara... Was his automatic response and he meant it. She'd bee settled there and she just had pups. It was cruelty, to leave her to fend for herself.

Perhaps scrabbling to find something other than this dizzying news, her voice came again, still sad. He snorted softly, wondering where on earth to start. He knew that maybe she didn't want to talk about Ichika and he respected her change of subject. Lots of things... I'm down at the Moonstone Lakes currently with my family. He said softly, his brain throwing him images of his passionate kiss with Lilin. She was much more than family, and she'd run away. He knew he would need to get going soon, but being here was irresistable. Do you have anywhere to go? He asked, his brain refusing to move so quickly from that bomb. She could come back with him if she had nowhere, he knew his family would welcome her.

Bad post, sorry

Even though they had only met once and it was a brief meeting, Kiara still treasured all of her former pack mates save for one. She missed being in Ichika, she missed the warmth and different individuals. Saul had been part of that pack and someone she had known. There was no reason for her not to miss him. Her old happy personality had surfaced and her heart flew open to the male. He returned her greetings in kind and the tense atmosphere was completely lifted. With their friendship rekindled Kiara couldn't help but feel like she was on top of the world.

Yet her happiness was brief as Saul brought up Ichika. Kiara hated to admit what had happened to the pack, mostly because she didn't want to believe in its fate. Even so, he had the right to know. The larger male was obviously shocked by the news and he expressed his condolences in a solemn voice. The young mother nodded, but didn't speak. She didn't want to talk about Ichiaka. She wanted their reunion to be happy, not shadowed by the fall of their pack. "It's alright."

Saul allowed the change in conversation fro a short while. The arctic female listened half-heartedly as he spoke of his family and new home. She had a vague recollection of the lakes, but never spent a lot of time in the area. Her mental map was hazy outside of the halcyon mountains. It had been a long time since she last traveled down south. "I'm happy for you, family is important." Kiara's thoughts drifted back to her puppies and she longed to return to them.

Once again the conversation turned back to the young mother and her situation. Just like Zalen and Tharin, Saul asked her of the future, his tone indicating that he would open his home to her if only she were to ask. Kiara gave a sad smile and shook her head. "I still have my den and for now that is enough. Besides, the puppies are too young to move." Kiara's head reflexively turned to the direction of her den. The desire to return to them burned in her eyes.

<33 you're welcome to make a last post, or I can have it archived after this one!

Saul Chibi is by Requiem!

Their reunion, while completely unexpected, was a relatively happy affair and Saul felt a warming joy at having been out here today. His reasons for being here might have been a little unsavoury but he'd been rewarded by this meeting. He'd helped a new mother out and it had just so happened to turn out that he knew this new mother. Parts of him wanted to remain, to meet her children and make sure she was doing okay. But even as her face fell and she gave a soft, closing statement of 'It's alright' Saul gave a soft nod. It was clearly something she felt too painful to talk about and he respected her wishes with a soft nod of his head. He knew that he would need to start moving soon and it would be easier if he didn't try to continue a conversation she was clearly uncomfortable in doing.

She expressed her happiness for him and he flashed her a soft grin, nodding his head once more. They really are... He agreed softly before standing and stretching. He was glad for the physical exercise despite the fact that he'd been running for most of the day- it was good to recharge. He noticed the far off look in her eyes and recognised that she probably needed to get back. Her expression was one of understanding as he asked her about her situation and she declined his unspoken offer. It was her decision and she would not be told what to do, which was enough for him. He nodded before glancing down at the carcass.

Take it back with you, it should keep for a few days. He said softly, his tail flickering back and forth. It was really good to see you Kiara and I'm glad you're doing well. I must be on my way, but I wish you the best. He said, leaning across and licking the females chin once before he turned and retreated back over the mountains, a swift trot to his gait and excitement in his eyes. He intended to find his belle and bring her home.
