looking for more than blood that binds us

The air still held the chill of early morning, but Cypress could tell it would turn into a beautiful spring morning. The sun’s rays were warm on his back with nary a cloud to break up the blue of the sky. The various songs of the birds could be heard as he made his way through the forest and left their joyful notes behind as he headed out across the rolling plain.

Traveling at an easy loop, the wolf eventually slowed his pace before coming to a stop. He stood there, for some time, look out towards the scent marked border he knew laid ahead. He could not scent it yet, but he knew it to be there all the same. He had left without a thought, the trip impromptu, but now he found there was hesitation in his step, even after he had already come thus far.

Tilting his head back, Cypress let his tenor voice call out for his kin. It felt odd, for a wolf that scarcely left his own borders, to be standing on the outside of another pack’s land waiting for permission to venture within. Such were the ways. He was not about to go barging in. Such disrespect would do nothing for his reasons for coming.

[html] we could set this after the CD disbandment of you want

The male stood outside his home, a hammer unsteadily in his hand as he worked to keep the house together. A piece of wood on the door had began to come displaced and he tried to bring the board back into place. Blue eyes focused, his pink tongue poking outside the side of his dark lips as he fit the nail in the right place and raised the hammer and tried to pound it into the wood.

After a tap, and then another harder one the nail grew twisted and bent under the pressure. The male stepped back, looking at the mess with critical eyes and a frown. A hand went to his head, fingers scratching at his ear while he wondered what he had done wrong with such a seemingly simple task.

Frustrated, Alder tossed the hammer onto the ground in front of the cabin and wondered whom he needed to go and hire to help him with the task. Walking around to the side of the cabin Alder’s ears fell back to catch a sound. Through out the day and even night he heard calls, for it was the main way they were to search for one another. Most rings he did not need to reply to, they all sought out another. But this caused his head to turn as well, and his heart skip a beat. They wanted him.

He was on the ground, four paws lifting his weight and carrying him into its direction before he even realized that it was Cypress that had come to their borders. The masked male tipped his nose back to the sky and gave him something in return. To tell him that he was on his way.

A heavy pawed gallop took him in the direction of the voice and his nose searched out the scent he knew from memory. Before long, Alder was at the edge of the pack’s lands and coming upon his brother. Slowing to a swift walk he gave the earthen and shadowed hued brother with a wag of the tail. Its good to see you Cypress. He greeted with a smile.

Okay! Also love your new avvies Big GrinD

Dark ears strained forward in wait for a response. He was anxious and the nerves twisted and bubbled in his gut. For a moment he almost thought he would not get an answer, but just as his hope had started to wane the familiar tones of his brother’s voice greeted his ears and his tail gave a gentle wag. Feeling a little more at ease the young wolf sat back on his haunches and waited.

Cypress was surprised at the warm greeting that he received from his brother, as if he expected that Alder would still harbor the ill feeling from before. Failing to realize fully that it was only he that held onto the pity disputes that had occurred between them. It’s good to see you too. He said with a warm and genuine smile, though it faded slightly as he didn’t really know what to say next. After a moment of uncomfortable silence, though short and likely only uncomfortable for Cypress, he tried a so, how are you doing?

He suddenly wondered what he was doing here. Really, how was he suppose to get around to why he had come? He didn’t even know how to broach the subject or even if there was a subject. In a way he had half hoped that Alder would have met him with the same anger he had that day long ago in the woods of crimson dreams, at least then it would seem more fitting to apologize for being..well, a shitty brother in the least, he reckoned.

[html]ee, thank you!

The past lingered between them, an unresolved tension that Alder thought about at times. But he wanted to get past it and had forgiven Cypress long ago for leaving and –in his eyes– not fighting for their mother when she needed it. Alder knew he was at fault as well, emotion and rage were controllable things and he had lost that important leash to both. He pushed it away, focusing on the pleasure of his brother’s visit rather then the insecurity that remained.

Good, there has been a lot of things to do in the stables. he added, his tail in a constant lazy wave. He moved a bit closer to Cypress, as if to gather him up and bring him into the pack lands. Come on, no need to hang at the borders. He cocked his head as if to wave Cypress on along with him and began the walk towards his cabin.

How is everything with you? And mother? And Oak? He questioned in a not so gentle manner. He hadn’t seen them in some time, duty of the Court keeping him away.
