Pack Brothers

Tharin moved through the woods softly, working on not disturbing anyone that might be nearby. With dawn's light beginning to filter over the land, he knew exactly where to go to find the prey for the pack. Crouched low he searched the area, nose moving as he sorted through the scents that his nose brought him. Many weren't of any use for him, dismissing the smell of the plants, though he did take note of the heavy scent of rain in the air. It looked like it would be coming soon. He would have to move fast if he wanted to take down something before the rain hit.

The silver wolf's body crouched low to the ground, letting the red markings over his fur help him blend in with the ground. Peering through he grinned, noting the small herd of deer gathered at the lake to quench their thirst. They weren't yet as alert as they should be, relaxed with the calm silence early morning always brought with it. Tharin knew that he would be interrrupting it soon enough, waiting to pick out an appropriate prey. An injured deer with an old wound, perhaps the leg was broken, limped nearby. That one would be just right to take down.

OOC: hope you don't mind me joining ^^

New to the pack Kota had decided to do a little exploring on his own to get to know this new land; he had decided as well to get a jump on the day to see what he could find. What he didn't expect to find however was a herd of deer; that in itself is a normal thing but what struck him was the scent of another wolf. He himself was downwind of the deer so there was no problem there so he decided to keep as silent as death itself and keep out of sight of both the herd and the other wolf; this being the perfect opertunity to see a fellow packmate in action.

Kota stood himself behind a tree and watched carefully around the edge of it; he had disguarded his 'clothing' which consisted of a loin cloth and a cloth cloak; the cloak however he didn't just throw away, he kept it in the hiding place where he would keep his sword when not out in the lands. At the moment however that sword hung around his waist for he would not just abandon it in the hiding place; no he would wear it unless he were in the pack den.

That was of little concern at the moment however, at the moment Kota was but focused on watching how his packmate stalked the deer. He himself couldn't go into that form, something happend at birth and when he first took this upright form he got stuck; so of course Kota had to learn how to hunt on two legs, this meant directing the prey through sound and outsmarting them. This would be interesting to see how this other wolf hunted down the deer.

OOC: Welcome to the pack!

The scent of another reached him. Tharin turned his head from the kill, briefly acknowledging the other's presence. The scent of the alphas was on him, as well as the faint mix of the land. A newcomer. He turned back to the deer, examining how it would be best to take it down. A single blow wouldn't be good enough. Perhaps if he re-broke the old wound, then used the opportunity to take out it's throat. The broken leg would keep it from running, minimizing the chances of it kicking out at him as well.

A burst of strength aided him clearing the bushes that had hidden him. Heads lifted, some of the more skittish deer taking off. It wasn't long before the rest of the herd caught up with the panic. His target turned as well, letting him aim at the broken leg. His teeth snapped around it, and the weak bone shattered. The deer let out a pain filled cry, struggling more slowly now. Tharin tugged hard on the leg, snarling. Muscle tore under his powerful teeth before he was forced to leap clear, circling around to move for the throat.

OOC: Thanks ^^

When the hunter turned his head to acknowledge Kotas pressence, the dark male breif showed himself to the others sight then hid himself once more. He studied how the other chose his prey then leapt into action; Kota winced slightly when he heard the snap and the deer's cry of pain, he knew it had to be done but it still got to him sometimes; and he would never let his prey suffer for long. He noted the others skill in taking down the lame deer so fast.

Once the prey could no long escape Kota made himself known to the world around him and stepped slowly from the shadows and bushs around him; he didn't watch with a tutors eyes but with those of someone studying the best moves he had seen. Kota stayed well away the hunter and the hunted untill this dance of life and death would be completed for he knew better then to get close to such a dance; it could be dangerous to ones health.

The deer backed up as Tharin moved forwards, tossing it's head. It wasn't a clean stroke, but Tharin moved in, teeth sinking into it's neck. Hooves flew as it reared up, desperate to rid itself of the predator determined to bring about it's death. A couple struck Tharin before he dropped down again, backing up. Nothing had broken, luckily, but his blood was mingled in the air as well now. The deer snorted, beginning to limp away. It would die, there was no question now, but Tharin would have it as his prey, and not the prey of some other lucky animal that came across the dying deer.

A leg kicked back, sending it stumbling down as it went off balance. Growling Tharin leaped clear, using the opportunity to hit it's back. The deer twisted wildly, unable to clamber up again with the weight on it's body. Teeth tore viciously at the flesh, large bloody wounds running down. There was only so much that he could reach there, but it was a good amount, again weakening the deer and bringing it closer to death. The wolf that stood by was completely forgotten, the silver male entranced by the death beneath him.

Kota watched closely as the dance continued yet this was turning more and more from a gracefull dance to something less becoming; Kota's hand fell to the hilt of his blade. If the death was not given soon and torture stopped then he would play the final part in this play and end the life of the deer; in his eyes the deer was indeed food yes but it was still a living thing and he couldn't stand seeing it suffer like so. The dark male took a step foward towards the hunter and hunted "end it..." it was not a commanding tone but one of concern with a pleaing undertone to it.

The dark one slipped only the hairs width of the blade free from its home on his side "end it...please" this time a whisper; he didn't know if the hunter had even heard the first time he had spoken. Kota spoke again but this time under his breath in the lowest of whispers "sister doe; though you give your life so that we may continue i beg of you to forgive your hunter for his lack of grip; your struggles make it difficult to end your sorrow" the dark one had always been like that; asking forgiveness of the prey he killed and praying that they be accepted wherever they shall go next.

Having seen enough Kota closed his eyes and waited for it to end; he may be viewed as being soft or unwolf like but he couldn't help the way he had been raised.

The words from the stranger weren't heard. He was caught in the battle, nothing existing outside of the deer's heaving breath beneath him and the intermingled scents of their blood. His body was tense with effort, working on keeping his grip as the deer continued to fight, slowing down. He stepped off the deer, leaping clear of the hoof that moved to strike at him. Circling around Tharin waited until the neck was exposed in a wild swing and leaped in. The blow was clean this time, the deer choking on it's own blood before finally sinking down in death.

Panting Tharin stared at the kill, tail high above him. Licking his jaws from the blood he stepped forward, nuzzling at the carcass. It was dead. Lifting his head Tharin howled, calling for the pack members to come and feast. He looked over at the luperci who had witnessed the hunt, dipping his head low. Tharin was uncertain why he hadn't stepped in to help take the deer down, as it would have been much easier with two, but he had managed to do it on his own, so that was alright. Tharin licked at the hoof cuts on his body, working on cleaning them up. You can go ahead and eat.
