ooc: This would take place after the group thread, so in the meantime details shall be vague.

Finally, the pups had managed to fall asleep to the result of many assurances from the female that all would be well. These lands were strange and new to them, and new to her as well. She could understand their reluctance to sleep without her near, for even she had trouble closing her eyes in a place so unfamiliar but grown less strange. They were safe, she assured the young pair countless times. They were too old to cling like this, acting afraid of what they need not fear. But with her soft heart, she coddled them still until they were assured by her love and her words that the shadow of the mountain was not to be feared but to be embraced as the protective veil of home.

This was their home now, a new land led to by the ancestors with the potential of a grand future laid out before them. How could any fear such a place when joined by a family held dear? She imagined these fears held by the children were for the unknown they had yet to accept, and would eventually dissipate in time. But the woman could not deny that she felt something of the same, a kind of fear for what lurked around them… a fear of what could transpire in the days to came. There was no true reason for it, for these days to come would be no different than those before, shrouded in the shadows of the unknown til they were lived through and fondly recounted in the light of what had been. But still it was there and it left the she-wolf restless.

Careful not to disturb the sleeping pair, she slipped out of the makeshift den and into the deep cover of night guided by a sliver of silver light across the ground yet to be made familiar. She found leisure in her towering form, taking silent steps under sizable paws as if the earth would feel different to this alternate form. But the grasses still bent the same underfoot, and the buried rocks still ground into her pads in such a way that it massaged the worn pads eliciting a soft growl of content. And while her paws experienced the ground, her eyes beheld the façade of the neighboring mountain and were again struck with awe. What was place they found… and to think this was only a part. The day had kept her busy tending to and preparing the homes for them to sleep, giving her little time to experience this beauty professed by her Family. What better time than now on this cool, peaceful night, to explore this treasure of land…

The nights out on the mountain were beautiful. He was out seated on a boulder and watching the stars. Maybe it was the elevation but he swore those stars hanging overhead never burned so brightly. Nature seemed to welcome them all to this wonderful place. It truly was a beautiful home. The Alaskan wasn’t yet comfortable in it in a similar way it took him a while to grow accustom to two daggers hanging from his hips, or the bow he had crafted that now hung easily from him. This place was magnificent but it wasn’t yet home. It would be. That Jaden didn’t settle well didn’t add to this. The Alpha hadn’t dug out a den yet and chose to instead sleep under the stars until the perfect place revealed itself.

But sleep wouldn’t find him this night. Stress tended to incur nightmares in his usually restful sleep and the emotion had to be expected. He was leading again, even if only a small band as of yet, and that alone was enough to bring memories of a life lost to time. Thana was constantly around too. He had only known her for small amount of time and there was so much trust and emotion for her in his obsidian body. The connection they shared reminded him of his first love often. It was about the only thing he really disliked about their time together. But it was his doing, not hers. He couldn’t blame the woman for being who she was.

So, when all this began to backup the flow of his relaxed mind, he stood and went to explore. It would be enough to occupy him. He began a slow descent from his perch on the mountain’s lower but still steep areas. The scent of his fellow leader drifted to him on the cool night air and brought an instant smile to the male’s black muzzle. He wondered idly what she might be doing out so late. No doubt she was out marking the new territory or exploring. It mattered little though, so long as she wouldn’t mind his company. The woman’s slim autumn figure came into view soon enough and he took a few jogging steps to fall nicely into step next to her. Where are you headed tonight, X’yrin?

She could take no step without her Shadow close by. Even in the night when the rest of their Family slept he had managed to wake and find her amidst the palely lit land. The woman took comfort in this, in knowing she was not alone, and though she could not hear or see him yet but caught his scent on the gentle wisps of wind, she smiled awaiting for her Shadow to bind itself to her.

Too often was she reminded of her mate upon seeing him, though his form held a much darker pelt that often led her to wonder how the ancestors could create such a deep hue. They carried the same protective aura that as always warmed her heart, but it was there that their similarities began and ended. She was no fool to dare find something deeper to compare the two by. A profound notion was that Saluce was gone... and with him had gone her hope of finding that kind of happiness found in him again. Her desire for a family seemed far out of reach... to be loved again so passionately was an experience she dared not think would happen to her again. She could not afford to hope for it, let alone strive for it now... not when there was a life here to be build for the Family she had chosen to lead.

But she always took comfort in her Shadow being near, for it allowed her to believe that not all hope was lost. He was forever her symbol that the ancestors had not forsaken her, that they still kept a vigilant watch over the earthbound soul still healing from the past, troubled wounds. She trusted in them to guide her and trusted in herself to see their signs regardless of where they led.

Fondly she smiled as her dear friend came to stand beside her inquiring where she was off to at this late hour. The donned tails atop her healing shoulder rose and fell with her indifferent shrug, then were lightly brushed against a naked black shoulder as she steps closer to him, falling seamlessly into step with him. "I haven't the slightest idea," she whispered as if sharing a secret for his ears alone to hear. "You and Chara have found a wonderful place for us... but I still am not used to it yet... it is still so strange and beautiful just the same."

There was a wonderfully deep comfort to be found in the woman’s scent. As she drew comfort and safety from him, he took strength from her being so close. In this world where he had nothing and everything that did come seemed to pass just as fast, she was the one thing that stayed a constant. Despite all the bad he had done in his time, she was proof that there was still something kind and lovable in him. Thinking back to the time he spent with nothing and no one like her to care for, it was a mystery he hadn’t lost himself completely. He could never go back to that again. He could never bare to be without her.

And that suited him just fine now. He indulged in her delicate expressions and the sweet smile he always admired while listening cheerfully for her answer. It brought a warm feeling of pride to again think of this land as theirs, as something they claimed and now owned. It is a beautiful place indeed and I think it will grow on you. He spoke as if he was more comfortable than she for encouragement purposes. He was no more used to it than she. Maybe, since you are wandering aimlessly, we can go down to the lake? Have you had a chance to see it yet?

She did not need to hope that he words would in time ring true. She trusted in them and knew whole-heartedly that with time and the effect to open her heart to it, this place would become just as much a home as the Wentworth, and before there the mountains to the far North where the Nomad made their camp for the rigid winters. She need only explore a little more and see through the eyes that beheld this land as beautiful. And it would happen so long as he helped her to see.

"I haven't been down to the lake," she confessed with bashful ears laying flat against her head. Some leader she claimed to be, having not even discovered the whole of the territory. Her steps were tentative, both physically and in action. She wanted nothing else than to see her Family happy on these grounds, but how could they be went their lead remained reluctant to embrace the lands? She groaned softly in displeasure, resting a shaming hand atop her head in a sign of self-disapproval. "I would like very much to see it... the whole of this land if I can. It is terrible that I haven't already, after the both of you worked to prepare it for us."

The two leading wolves slowly began to curve their path. Even before his delightful companion gave him an answer, he was leading her toward the water that was only a few miles away. Jaden had seen it and walked a bit of the eastern shore, but that far from the mountain was probably a bit excessive for him to ask the few wolves they had in their family to guard. He figured they could count the large lake into the boarder of their territory. It was an easily impassable object that most wolves wouldn’t dare attempt. It also shortened the amount of land they had to mark and patrol.

Her words brought a soft chuckle from the man, Prepare? There was nothing we could have done to make this place more beautiful. We will start with the lake and, if you feel adventurous, we can keep walking until we see all you can bare of this land. He grinned fondly at her, wondering if she would stay out all night with him just to see the land they now owned. Another innocent question peaked into his mind spawning from his desire to be near X’yrin. He wanted to know what she liked. It seemed insignificant but he knew much less about her preferences then he really wished. So he would ask. A simple solution that broke the small while of comfortable silence that had settled between them, Of all the natural things you have seen on your journeys, what do you think is the most beautiful? The end of his sentence was highlighted with a small bump in his voice as he stepped up and over a fallen log, continuing to close the distance between the them and the not so far off lake.

It was becoming terribly apparent to the she-wolf just how horrid she was at finding the words to express how she felt. Even to simply convey a deep gratitude, she was at a loss of words and was left gaping like a starved fish as she scrounged her limited compendium in vain for the right words so tell her meaning. She was both blessed and cursed by growing up in a culture that spoke through gesture and expression rather than articulated word. A look could bestowed a more profound meaning than a series of words alone, but when she felt this was the norm, to speak one's intentions... she always found herself at an embarrassing loss.

"I...dont think you understand..." she tried to explain, wanting desperately for him to better understand what she meant. "Preparing... as in... finding this place for us to stake our claim... readying it for us to make a home...I.... I suppose is what I meant." Truly, she was terrible when it came to expressing her own feelings, even when it came to her love for Saluce, rarely did she say those words to him but instead found ways to show her faithful love for him. To teach and to guide she could use her words, but in the matter of herself and what she felt within, her strong voice never ceased to falter.

Willingly she fell back into the comfortable silence, letting her heavy footfalls speak as the answer to his suggestion. They walked on under the cool night with the pale glow of the starlit sky guiding them through the fragrant grasses. Her nose was tickled by the strange, yet alluring scent that reminded her fondly of the greens of home that grew beneath the shadow of the Northern mountain. In a strange sense, this new realm reminded her of the homeland often dreamed of. And each time her eyes laid upon a new spot of land, she expected to see the decor of a Nomad family, proudly displayed for the eye to see. The tanned hides of the Evan'ules, the treasured tails and skulls of the Exultare, the fragrant flora and skillfully woven trinkets of the Marecks... the beautiful songs of the Lamndas as they praised the ancestors for granting the pack its life.

"...the most beautiful..." caught in the fading wisps of a waking dream, she sighed dreamily as she strolled down the paths of her seasons journey, recalling the sights that had stolen her breath and left her to bask in the awe of their natural splendor. She had walked upon different ground and had seen many different places... but her heart would forever see the captivating face of the Northern mountain as more beautiful than any. "The mountain where I was born..." she said at last, bounding effortlessly over the lying log and falling again into a measured stride. "Touched by the ice and snow, just a little at its peak in the beginning of Spring, but its covered face in the Winter is so beautiful. In the night the stars would play atop the ice, dancing happily as their light made the mountain come alive as if it were smiling. And in the morning the sun would set it alight with a docile flame that shined more brilliantly than the sun, and as if in envy, the sun would climb and force its light to burn brighter... but in effect would only make the mountain more beautiful."

Releasing the breath of longing, she turned her gaze to the mountain. "I hope that in time I will see such a light on this face as well..." But for now, it appeared only as a dream... a wish. But certainly not a lost one. Returning her gaze to the path ahead, her ears drew forward to the gentle trickle of water. As they drew nearer with the scent of the lake at last gracing her nose, her pace quickened from its leisurely stroll to a curious bound as her eagerness to behold the treasure began to grow. It was silly, she knew, but could not resist the feelings that swelled. Taken but a youthful wonder, she took the hand of her dear friend and led him across the shallow bank to the water's edge.

The surface was calm and as black as the night, moving only as the gentle wind stirred it to lap lightly against the grained shores. Amidst the delicate lapping thundered the pounding rhythm of her heart in her ears, overworking itself as the awe-struck woman dare not breathe in fear of disturbing this tranquility. She looked out from the shallows of the lake to its inky, dark center but was again drawn to marvel at the light that played atop it. A reflection of the sky, she could see the stars in the lake and the waning face of the moon as it fawned over its own brilliance. A clear, perfect reflection... a heaven found upon the earth.

His interest was quenched momentarily with the description of her birth place. He was a little bit envious of that wonder she held for home. He had no such memories to recall fondly from his past. He had his times with the sea but they fell into nearly meaningless rabble in comparison to the mountain she described. The tone she used was as sweet as the place sounded beautiful and he was left in quiet silence for a moment, trying with little success to imagine what such a beautiful place truly looked like. It sounds… magnificent. His muzzle spun to get a look at the towering mountain behind them, thinking maybe he could see it then.

The image still eluded him but he wasn’t let too much time to dwell on his own deprived eyes. The golden figure began to pull ahead of him and he had to quicken his pace. He held his ground by her side as the lakes damp smell over took them. A gentle grasp took him off guard and pulled him across the final area to stand at the lake’s edge. It was wondrous. Deep blue eyes skipped over the lakes calm surface and admired the crystal clear reflection of the stars on it. It looked as if the moon’s ivory twin was floating only a short swim away, the nearly cloudless night perfectly mirrored on the water’s face.

But the natural scene wasn’t what held Jaden’s gaze. Slowly, his eyes moved from one beauty to another. His friend standing enthralled in the moonlight was, he thought, even more beautiful than this. He still felt her hold on him and he thought then that there was no other person he wanted to share this moment with. It wasn’t a first, but this surreal scene seemed to reinforce all she stood for in him so strongly. She had gotten a few steps ahead of him in her haste and the dark water framed the woman’s body perfectly. With a slow and deliberate motion, he caged her hand between both of his in a tender hold. He then stepped into her, letting his body press easily into hers a bit before rubbing his muzzle fondly in the bottom of her jaw and neck. It’s beautiful, isn’t it? He asked and let his head rest on her shoulder while his eyes drifted contently over the lake once again.

Once more she was at a loss of words, unable to describe this heavenly body in no other way than with a soft whine of pleasure. Her glowing eyes were captivated by the reflected scene, the way the stars played over the surface of the water, rocking and rolling as the stirred ripples spread til they reached the banks then rebounded. There were not words, though beautiful attempted to hold a place. But even then as she thought there was a better word yet to be found, her thoughts were stolen by a touch... one began but not truly felt til her muzzle shifted slightly and came to brush against the endearing muzzle along her neck.

It was then that her senses were pulled from their awe-casted spell and she felt the enveloping warmth from her companion's body pulled so close. From then, her mind knew nothing else but him; the subtle ins and outs of his chest as he breathed, and through their mold of black and gold she could feel the beats of his heart, that led her own into a staccato rhythm. And in her soft, shallow breaths, she inhaled only his scent embossed in the musk of the wild with an accent of an aroma she wished not to recall. Rather it be hers she wished to imprint on him, a less than kind reminder of his submission during their bout. How that side of her enjoyed reminding her of that earned right... but she knew better than to enact it without just cause.

But could it be helped if their scents came to mingle by this embrace between friends? It seemed only natural, inconspicuous... no need to rouse the suspicious of something more. And so she leaned into him, letting her tail fall relaxed between her thighs as her muzzle lowered to fondly lick his upon her shoulder. "It is," she whispered, though her eyes had long since closed from the Lake as her mind drifted into bliss. "But aren't there other places like this to see?"

The air held an unearthly quality around the two. In his eyes, this scene had to be a dream. Only a spectacular fantasy could allow it. After all the time they had spent trying to get to this land and their new family, after all the long days and nights he’s spent alone, that the whole of time could boil down to the beauty of their simple embrace was mystifying. The seconds weren’t long enough and their shared grasp not near enough to be satisfying. Her gold stood against him and the only thoughts he had were wishes that time might stop and leave them for all eternity.

It was her voice and tender kiss that broke his wonderful image of frozen time and he couldn’t find any reason to be disappointed. He took great comfort in her soft scent on him. A single black arm split from where it held hers and rose to easily hold the weight she pressed into him. No place is the same, he breathed in a tone just as hushed as his companion’s. It felt as though any robust sound, his voice included, might shatter the magic settled around them. but we can look for others, he nuzzled her fondly once more before pulling his muzzle from her, if that is what you wish, his voice displayed no displeasure. Only a slight swoop of his dark blue eyes betrayed the great reluctance in him to let her go. He suddenly regretted telling the woman they could walk all night when this alternative felt so much better, even though it would have likely changed nothing.

Her reminder of what they had set out to accomplish had broken the enchanting spell upon them. Foolishly, she had hoped to keep their minds on the lands still to be seen, but how her heart wished to lead these moments for once and share what it desired for so long. And though her mind was resilient, her heart would be damned to relinquish its influence without contest.

She forced her maw tightly closed feeling the distressed whine quivering her vocals to sound. Yet it was a rouse played by her own form, meant to keep her concentration on not letting such pitiful sounds mar the quiet night whilst her inner-most self led her actions. She felt him move and in an instant she turned against him, pressing her desperate form into his muscled physique, fearing silently to be rid of his warmth and made to feel the cold of loneliness believed was better hidden. But such fear was apparent in her eyes as plain and clear as the stars that touched the sky. And she knew this… for there was nothing she could hide from him, but was none the less shamed to feel as she did. A warrior was not to know this kind of fear, and yet she displayed it in such a way that the eyes of her beloved friend would be the only to see.

Both head and ears lowered in sync, veiling her troubled eyes in unkempt tresses of red. Embarrassed by her actions, her tail slipped between her thighs, passively curling as its end as if bracing for punishment. Such behavior was unbecoming of a woman that claimed herself a leader, but in this moment that title did not matter, not when it was only he that saw her. “Im sorry…” she whispered, still refusing to meet his eyes. “…we should move on and see what else there is… this place is vast… and there is much to see.” And yet she did not move away, nor did she refute her words and move closer to him as she wanted to. She remained still, so deathly still… once again at a loss, but this time, for what to do.

Obsidian fur tried to pull way. The mind behind the muscle was beginning to let go and trying to suppress the joy in that passed moment for it didn’t want to keep his beautiful companion from her desires. Such joy would be impossible to let simply escape otherwise. He was trying to appreciate it as he would a memory, something already gone and impossible to relive. But the woman’s golden form stuck to him with the step he took away. He came to a stiff halt with fear that me might have left too quickly and taken her balance.

This wasn’t the case. In the moment he tried to move away, she had turned and moved into him. His solid arms let go and repositioned lower on her frame as they prepared to catch what he had thought might be a stumbling body. He recognized the fear in the time he could see her eyes and look for an explanation. And when the embarrassment for it caused her gaze to quickly retreat, the reason for her actions was clear. An ever so slight grin pulled on the edges of his lips at her bashful apology. To see it from the sometimes unexpressive woman he knew was powerfully endearing. His strong hold warmed as he pulled his friend a bit closer and pressed the tip of his nose against her shamed muzzle. A soft silence fell between them while he tried to catch her eye and reassure the attractive amber that her apology had been unnecessary. His cool blue spoke only compassion and the love he felt in having her so close. …if that is what you wish.

It was only them that existed in this physical plane. Despite her love for their Family and the promise made to protect and care for them, she could not think of them now as it was too much for her mind and heart to bear. It took all she had to maintain some semblance of control as his assurance flowed into her by the touch upon her muzzle. She had let herself slip thus far, falling deeper into the pelt of darkness as he encircled her. Rather than step away she stepped further into him with her arms acting of their own accord to draw around him and cement that meld on black and gold. A low growl of contentment resounded as she favored the creation of their forms together… but not wholly joined.

Innocent thoughts of ending the time of loneliness morphed into conceptions of a sensual nature, stoked by the heat of the internal fire rouse to life from its smolders. Though he hoped she would look at him, her eyes remained concealed for a whole different reason, one that pulled her tail from its shameful recess to sway with a growing want. Nothing could be kept from him and she was hesitant to meet those longed for blues knowing that by a look alone, her control would have been undone and she would be left to stand bare before him.

“It is what I wish.” She inhaled a shaky breath and against her claim, further secured her hold around him. “…it is what I want.” Yet it wasn’t at all what she wanted… nothing that would take her from his arms. And yet it was difficult to admit aloud even though it would only be his ears to hear this confession. The words rested just on her tongue begging to be spoken aloud, trying in vain to pry apart her lips and convey what the she-wolf fought hard to deny. “Jaden…” and she could say nothing more than his name as what sliver of control remained had slipped from her grasp and she tilted her heavily adorned crown to look at him, into the eyes that could see through her know what she had tried and failed to keep from him. There was nowhere else she wanted to be than with him… there was no other she wanted to share this moment with… and there was no one but him locked in her eyes… no one else she cared for so deeply.

And again he was told of her desire to leave. This time he couldn’t hold the confused disappointment from his features. His ears fell back when her quivering words met them. He was even more so distraught when she wouldn’t meet his gaze. Her voice said they would leave, told a story of two wolves innocently exploring a new land for the remainder of the night. But her body… her hold that was so wonderfully tight around him denied this reality. And he squeezed her closer. The golden body was now pressed into him and he wouldn’t let it go until those searching blues found direction.

When fiery ambers finally appeared from behind her veil of red, their intensity robbed his lungs of breath. Every coherent thought melted into an unreadable jumble of feeling and emotion. The desire in her eyes and how it clicked so perfectly with all he wanted took his heart from a nervous patter up into a rampant charge of passion. Her voice fell on deaf ears but he didn’t need the meaning that the one simple word held. The look was enough. It stunned the man in her arms as it filled him with mirrored, if not intensified, desire.

Control poured back into his limbs only moments later and yet his mind stayed blank. Instinct took from him any contemplation on what should be done any longer and greedily pushed him into doing what it wanted and so sorely needed. His obsidian muzzle inched closer to reassure the feelings they shared were not as fantastical as they seemed before pressing against hers and offering a tender kiss.

She could imagine for a moment that all the world stood still, and again that none but them existed in this world. She could feel the desire in her heart to immortalize this moment as it grew, tended by a love that was left unspoken. But it was felt. Throughout her whole being she could feel it, and could do no more than act upon it as she knew how; carefully... patiently... thoroughly. For in her mind, time had stilled for them and that growing pleasure once left to hide in the recesses could flourish as it desired. There was no rush nor haste... only them in this sliver of a moment set apart from the rest.

A touch more profound, she hadn't felt before... not even when the male she had given her all. His love was built on the feral nature that resided in them bold, that need to claim and re-affirm that claim staked by a night of irrefutable passion. It was a savage love filled with the complexities of two conflicting minds and hearts. And though she never despised it, she had grown so tired of submitting even when instinct demanded she do so. But this... this passion here and now, there was no fight for dominance underlying his touch, but a question offered in a language she was open to receive by him alone. Did she feel this way for him as well? Could she accept this transcendence of his place in her eyes from her dearest companion to something other? But what it was she did not know, only that so long as he was there with her, she was willing to follow there it led.

She answered him with an affirming press of her muzzle to his, the slick flesh of an elated tongue slipping past her delicately parted maw to lavish him countless times over with an answer words would do no justice.

His heart felt as though it might burst with its unending sprint. He couldn’t calm it down and it was beginning to affect his steady breath, making his chest rise and fall more often as his lungs struggled to cope. The energy it gave him ran rampant and noticeable in his strong limbs as he pulled her as absolutely close as he could. He met her tongue passionately with his but couldn’t possibly get enough. He needed to have more of her. Every instinct demanded it as the only way to finalize the bond this wonderful woman wanted to share with him. His intentions were evident with their passionate embrace but even more so when his one of the clawed hands fell to her lower back and pressed her closer.

And he might have continued on like this had his own sensible mind not pushed through. It started as a simple thought, a connection with other moments of passion like this. That simple thought strung together others from his past and of the woman he first loved. This unwanted bridge built until he mashed painfully in to cold memory of her demise. It was enough to stop his body’s yearning. His kiss was still sweet and somewhat passionate, but he stopped pressing himself to her so fiercely. The fiery desire in him hissed as it was doused down to barely glowing embers. There was so much painful similarity between how he felt for X’yrin. The obsidian man had been romantically active with another since then, but it had been only passion, hormones, and an oddly formed trust between the two wolves. Thana didn’t hold a place in his heart as wonderfully, deeply branded as this autumn wolf had. Maybe it was that fact which had allowed him to get so physically close to her. But the more he thought about loving this woman in his arms as he so desperately wanted to, the more he felt he was condemning her to live by him and all the dangers that seemed to come with that dedication. He couldn’t lose her like he had lost before. It would destroy everything he was and there was absolutely no doubt about that. And this had him suddenly doubting his own resolve to become a leader; was he strong enough to protect her from what might come with time? Or with the enemies he already had and the others he would undoubtedly make in the future. If not, how could he esteem to do the same for an entire pack?

It wasn’t something he could just try and hope for. His tail had stopped its lashing, his breath had steadied, and his kiss was no longer powered by his own desire but was instead led by the wishes of his companions lavishing tongue. His passion and love needed encouragement that he couldn’t ask for.

Thought was for the fortunate, for those that could find sense among the ravenous emotions that swallowed them whole when lost within an enamored bliss. How unlucky she was to only have a single thought in mind when rationale was better called for before these loving steps led down a path there was no turning from. Yet she would call herself blessed for this moment when true pleasure was found not in carnal desire, but in a sweet, serene touch that portrayed so much more. How lucky was she to feel like this again, lost within a beloved’s arms feeling his heart beat in time with her own. How she longed for this… how she desired this. And though she longed to feel this way again, it was far more profound than how it had been before.

Each lick, each kiss tore away at the walls of her reserve til they crumbled entirely and left her victim to the realizations once shrouded in ignorance. With each kiss she came to understand how many more she wished to have like it, and how she wanted to be bathed wholly in his scent. When they had hardly known each other, she had called her stalking of him then within the Wentworth her obsession, the enthrallment of one warrior to another. But with each kiss, she came to understand that her want to follow in his steps, to watch him, to be with him was not at all an obsession… but a bond that had formed. From when she sprung from the dew laden grasses and tackled him to the ground, she had been bound eternally to him. And his absence; though she could not openly weep for the loss of her friend, how her heart ached to see him again in the darkest hours of night. She feared the recall of his name on the lips of her mate, that her eyes might glaze in memory and her heart would grow heavy and she who wore her emotions for the world to see would expose how much pain his absence caused her. Though she had loved her mate and gave her all to him, a part of her heart had been taken that night of her beloved friend’s leave… and now she felt it had been brought back to her.

And here with him, she felt whole again.

Softly, she whined how much she had missed him, and sang happily in having him there in her arms. Then her octaves fell, weighed by uncertainty as she reluctantly pulled from his embrace to peer into his eyes. And carefully her paw came to rest beneath his jaw whilst the other in a fit of trembles came to rest against his chest. Beneath her calloused pad she could feel the ferocious pounding of his chest until eventually he calmed and the taxed muscle was able to find its measured rhythm. And upon her lips was a smile so weak and frightful but there none the less as her lengthened bangs dared to obscure it. She wished to speak, to ask if the beating thing beneath her paw was for her and her alone. If she was the cause of its staccato beats… if she was the one to make him breathe like this. She opened her mouth to utter a word then felt it fall closed of its own accord. She needn’t try again to know the result would be the same; her instinct compelling her mouth to close and follow the way of her forebears and let her actions, her expressions, her emotions speak for her.

Still with their bodies adjoined yet to share a single soul, she leaned into him and slipped her muzzle along his own. Again, her voice was soft and searching as the paw on his chest pressed firmly for attention. Her question hung quietly in the air waiting… hoping to be answered.

As desire slipped away, so did the embrace they shared weaken. He could hear the joy in her voice, a simple whine that portrayed how deeply she enjoyed having him there. His mind had just begun raking itself over fear and self-doubt thus keeping him from an answer of his own. When they finally separated, the blue eyes that met his friend showed this inner conflict but could have easily been mistaken for a worried questioning as to why she had given up their kiss. Though it was one of the emotions he felt, it fell under the crushing weight of the others.

He watched as a question swept over her, one he could guess at but didn’t. He waited for her to voice it instead. He felt her touch under the soft fur of his jaw and pressed into it lovingly. Even with his doubt, he wanted her to understand how much he enjoyed this, their newly expressed love for each other. Her maw opened to speak and his ears perked with an eager readiness to catch every quiet syllable that might come forth. But none did. Then gentle pressure from her paws threatened to excite his heart again. It was so sweet when he finally realized the question in her eyes. The fear in her showed that she already loved him. That knowledge was enough to reassure him. How could he not give his all for someone who loved him? He would be strong enough. Anything that might threaten this woman from now on would need to plow through him and every skill he had to deny it. She had his life. He would willingly give it for her.

She hugged him once more and a warm smile pressed over his muzzle as the troubled mind found serenity within her warmth. He knew the words that had to be said. They rested easily and happily right on the tip of his tongue. He nuzzled her neck affectionately while finding the breath to softly state his truth to the world even though his beloved would be the only one to hear it. She was all that mattered. I love you, X’yrin.

With bated breath, she waited for reply. She knew full well the man before her would see what she wished to ask but could not bring herself to, feeling that words would tarnish this wonderful moment. But she was a patient woman at heart, yet even now she felt herself grow anxious as the seemingly endless silence carried on. ‘Please answer me…’ she wanted more than anything to say, but her lips remained closed and unmoving.
He said nothing as his muzzle slipped along the crevice of her neck becoming entangled in the unkempt tresses of red. Her heart stilled by such a touch as a chill of anticipation coursed down her spine, rendering her immobile for a moment, still kept in waiting. But as she delved into his warmth, her entirety melted into him, cementing the bond of black and gold once more. And once her worry began to wane and she felt only the serenity of this embrace, a soft truth pulled her ears from their auburn bed and started her heart again with thunderous beats. She loved, and was loved in return.

Beneath the starlit night in the presence of this heaven on earth, the ancestors had bequeathed her ears with a truth she thought was lost from her. She knew now the reason for them bringing this male back into her life to return the missing piece of her soul that had left with him. And she was made whole again… here in his arms, she was whole. And though she dared not pull away from him, and buried her muzzle deeper beneath his chin, in her mind’s eyes she could see the territory and looked across it with a renewed sense of hope. Whatever doubt she had mustered had gone with the emergence of his voice, having a renewed faith that this foreign land, this paradise beneath the shadow of the mountain could truly become their home. Because she had one with her that would never leave her side, and she had a love to see flourish upon these new grounds. And finally with no lingering doubts to hold back her tongue, she was able to speak;

“…and I love you, Jaden.”

Just because he was so sure of the words didn’t change how absolutely sweet they were in his ears. Her voice seemed to give the already wonderful statement an extra layer of profound meaning. Part of him wanted to relinquish their hold so he could see that smile he loved and how it must have been played on her lips then. But he settled for her warmth and the happiness it brought him. With her, he would never falter and his strength could never fail.

For the rest of the night he enjoyed her company. Their embrace stayed sweet and innocent for the realization of their love seemed to be enough. There was no pleasure above what they shared in their hearts, nothing to explore within each other that the promised time ahead would not allow. This land would be theirs to share and lead into a new chapter of time. It seemed like such a mountain to climb and far taller than the physical shadow they stood in now. But it didn’t matter. Not a single thought of doubt crossed his mind again throughout the entire night. And, when they grew tired of standing and holding each other, they sat against one of the many trees looking out on their own private heaven. They fell asleep in that comfortable, loving embrace and both dreamt of the bright future to be shared with the one they loved.
