Understandably Neela's encounter with Leon had left her hesitant about taking trips outside at night to stargaze, especially as she was still catching flickers of his scent along the borders. Yet she still found herself out here tonight, though this time was different somewhat, this time she wasn't alone.

Tony was a comforting presence at her side, his large muscled body warm against Neela's small, lithe one as she moulded herself against him while they walked. It had taken a lot of needling and persuading on Tony's behalf but Neela had finally agreed to the expedition. It was a show of how much she trusted Tony that the leather armour she had salvaged form her boat and taken to wearing whenever she wasn't deep within Casa territory wasn't present covering her tonight, thought the long boarding knives paired with the armour were looped through her belt.

Normally Tony and Neela were fairly talkative when together but tonight they were quiet, just walking and enjoying the peace and quiet; the two had made their way to a clear section of land near to the border and had a good view of the night sky. Surprisingly Neela was actually managing to relax after being wound tight like a spring for the most part earlier on in the walk.

Seeing her family had shaken Neela to be sure, but things were slowly starting to go back to normal. It might be a false peace, just waiting to be shaken once more, but she wanted to enjoy it while it lasted.

It had taken a bucket load of persuasion, nagging, almost arguing, begging and ultimately guilt tripping to get Neela out of the house for a walk. After all, what would happen with Tony right beside her. Both their own weapons with them. Neela had her knifes and Tony had his large claymore sword. And both were able to use them well so anyone, or thing who tired it attack them had another thing coming. Tony was, perhaps cocky and over confident, but still sure that no one would mess with his Neela while he was around. Tony was, for sure, naive and too bold for his own good. Often forgetting that there were bigger fishes out there than him.

'See? It ain't so bad? Ain't nuffin gonna get y' while I'm around tha's f' sure!' he said loudly, wrapping his arm round Neela tighter to back up his point and give her a stronger sense of safety. 'Much better than stayin' in twenny four seven, eh?' he prompted, gazing up at the clear sky through the trees.

OOC text here

It was an odd conflict of emotions within Neela's mind. On one hand she trusted in Tony to keep her safe, never mind her own skills, and she was in Casa territory so she shouldn’t feel threatened by outside forces. But it was Neela's mother that was leaving the mocking hints of scent along the borders and fear for her mother had been driven into Neela from an early age. Even with Tony walking aside her and the wrath of the pack poised at any who would attack a member within its borders she still felt a cold hint of fear.

Shivering she pushed away both the feeling and the hint of scent that lingered in her nose; trying so hard to ignore it was she that she didn’t notice how the scent smelt a tiny big fresher, a hint stronger than it should have. Normally Neela would have noticed such a thing in an instant, panic and paranoia rendering even her less than stellar nose sharp.

Maybe things would have turned out different if she hadn’t tried so hard to ignore her instincts. Maybe she would have had some hint of the figure stalking her from far off, slowly drawing closer to her and Tony as the pair walked along.

"Yeah I know, it's just…" Neela said in response to Tony, trailing off helplessly as she tried and failed to vocalise her thoughts. Falling silent she started to run her claws gently down the arm wrapped around her, only putting enough pressure to lightly tickle the skin beneath Tony's fur, "I've been scared of her my whole life. Now I know she's here…. Even when I feel safe I'm still scared, if that makes any sense. Probably doesn't." Neela trailed off again, resting her head against Tony;s chest just below his shoulder, "Yer right though, it is a nice night."

'It does. But y' got a whole pack behind y'. An' we all care for y', 'specially me, eh?' he said gently, keeping his arm around her gently. 'An' Imma tell m' dad t' keep his eyes out for any trouble. No details or anythin', jus' t' watch out for any trouble makers, eh? Hopefully that'll keep everyone safe, cause if they're gonna get you then they're gonna try an' go through anyone and we got people less capable then you here, eh? he drawled, wanting to fill up the silence with sound to keep her mind from any danger. 'Like Cadmeia an' Adelle. An' any future kids. We gotta keep everyone safe, yeah?'

Letting his tongue drift over the top of Neela's head he sighed, 'Y' know, I love 'aving you around. I'm kinda glad Ichika went arse up in the end. Prolly wouldn't have gotten you, eh?' Tony had grown accustomed to having Neela around and that's why he was so careful about making sure she was okay and convincing her to go outside and get some fresh air. He wouldn't have listened if she wanted to go alone. It was likely if that had happened he would have tailed her anyway.

Late late late. Will do my best to keep on time from now on.

By no means was Neela a particularly adept tracker. Her hearing was average, she lacked the spatial senses that many of her peers seemed to possess and her sense of smell was notably lacking. However even she could tell that something was wrong, some prickle running down her spine, some wisp of scent on the wind too faint for her to detect. Even safe in Tony's grasp Neela was distracted, her ears and eyes twitching about the clearing, only half listening to Tony's words as a sudden, causeless panic started to come over her.

A twig snapped off to the right and Neela jumped inside Tony's arms, her feet almost leaving the ground as she spun to fact the source of the noise. "Did ye hear that!?" she asked Tony urgently, peering into the darkness and trying to make out the source of the noise. Nothing was visible in the darkness and for a moment Neela relaxed, until her attention was caught by two spots of bright orange suddenly appeareing in the gloom.

Ice ran down Neela's spine as the watched the figure approaching out of the darkness and she shrank into Tony, her hands clenching into fists in his fur. Dark maroon fur, short and scraggy. A tall, muscled frame and piercing orange eyes, more akin to a blazing fire than the soft ember of Neela's own. Neela's mother cut an imposing figure as she strode out of the darkness, an imposing sneer on her deformed face; one half of her muzzle caved in completely, teeth and bits of bone fractured to almost random angles and the edge of a tongue just visible through the hole.

Neela's mother had been the fuel of her nightmares for years but this was no nightmare. She was here for real and, if the look on her face was anything to go by, she didn’t mean Neela well.

Tony wasn't the best tracker. Not even fairly close. He was far from attentive and often missed small details. Unless they had something to do with smithing of course, then he'd pick it up like a shot. Tony was, by default, an almost inattentive male completely. And for some reason it suited him, seemingly going with his brash, antisocial personality. With Neela beside him he found himself concentrating more on her, and his future with her more than anything else. So the growing scent missed his nose. But he felt something was wrong soon enough. He could feel it within Neela's body language.

Holding onto Neela tightly with one strong arm, he reached over his shoulder to his claymore. It was too heavy to wield with one hand when fighting, but it was easy enough to hold it menacingly. The blacksmith's arm unravelled itself from around the red collie woman and grasped onto the sword with it before moving in front of Neela. 'Yea', ah 'ere it...' he said, his voice dangerously low and a growl in his throat. The face he was confronted with was a face of terror, deformed and cave in. Enough to make even Tony want to sleep with a candle beside him.

Italicised text is Kaer. Feel free to PP her, just let me do her death.

Kaer’s eyes locked onto Neela, what remained of her mouth twisting into an evil looking smile. Kaer barely spared Tony and his sword a glance as she started walking slowly towards the two, casually pulling a thin, curved short sword from a holster on the small of her back, holding the weapon casually as she walked towards them.

For a moment Neela felt as though she was frozen but when Kaer drew her sword suddenly everything snapped back into focus. With a snarl she stepped forwards, putting herself slightly ahead of Tony, and drew her knives, the rasping sound of the blades leaving their sheathes the only sound in the clearing. The tense silence that followed was abruptly broken by a hoarse chuckle as Kaer spoke, ”Neela. Been a while.” Kaer’s voice was harsh and it set Neela’s fur on edge, like claws being run down a chalk board. She responded with a growl, lips pulled far enough back to expose her gums and her voice barely above an animal snarl, ”Mother…” For a moment Neela and Kaer mirrored each other in everything but face, both still as a statue with muscled taunt and ready to leap. Suddenly, without warning, both of them shot forwards.

Neela immediately regretted this when she bounced back like a freight train had just smashd into her. Neela and Kaer looked to be of similar builds but in actuality Kaer was pure muscle while much of Neela’s “bulk” was her fur, Kaer was significantly stronger and heavier than Neela. Neela hit the ground rolling, coming up quickly. She tried to keep track of Tony but lost sight of him when she had to drop to the floor again to avoid a swipe of Kaer’s sword sent her way, followed by a quick kick that caught Neela in her injured ribs. While Neela was on the ground Kaer spun and darted towards Tony, sword snapping out for a quick slash towards his head.

assuming that her sword is smaller since tony's sword is a big fat beast? small bit of pp near the end, can change Smile very short

Tony wasn't afraid of conflict. He trained for it after all. He wanted to protect his home, family and pack mates. And that's why he joined the brotherhood, or at least, why he was joining the brotherhood. It was one of the things he shared with Lorenzo, the passion for his home. The love for his family and pack mates. Neela fell into both of these categories. And now that she, and himself of course, were in danger, he wouldn't stand down without a fight. Win or loose. He'd protect his home.

Tony nearly lost concentration for a moment when Neela went down, but as he sprung back up again he turned back to Kaer, growling as he found she'd advanced quicker than he expected. But, oddly, he felt no fear. She aimed for his head, but Tony braced himself, holding the sword to the side as he moved his face out of the way. Kaer's sword met his with a ricocheting clang, the smaller weapon bounced away, but Tony was surprised at the woman's strength and stumbled back. He was sure that it would be the last attack aimed at him, or Neela fo that matter.
