Why did fishing have to be so darn hard! Ovi had been trying to catch a stupid fish for over and hour now. He had never really had problems in that past! Sure before it had been in small pounds or nurseries, but was there really a big difference between those things and a river? He was exasperated and his slate eyes watched as a silvery fish swam past his rusty paws.

He watched it for a while, standing perfectly still as it swam between his paws mockingly, and then, just as it began to slow down, he tensed to strike. Just as large pads and claws lashed out however, the dumb fish seemingly teleported to the other side of the river, DAMN! he cried out in frustration, and then proceeded to make a dash in every direction at every fish he could see. The only thing this accomplished was making a big, splashing racket and scaring all the fish away. He growled angrily and sunk into the water. Well, at least it was a sunny day, and the water felt wonderful on his fur; he was so dirty.

The tiger closed his eyes then, letting his mind drift back to comfortable, haimish times with Sonja and Annabella, as they would giggle and brush his fur until it shown. He missed them so desperately, and he let out a hissing whine echoed by the rumbling of his stomach. God he was hungry.

The last time Amy had left the rambunctious puppy alone, he had managed to run off and have a fun adventure. To top it off, Amy hadn't caught him in the act. She had given the puppy strict instructions to stay put or else he would suffer the consequences. However, she had yet to catch him. It wasn't the first time Kohaku had gotten away with ignoring her orders. Amy had also told him to remain in a single area of the wagon while they traveled, but he had defied those orders on a number of occasions and hadn't been caught once. Needless to say, Kohaku was feeling pretty proud of himself and overly confident.

The opportunity to run off on his own arose again as Amy left the colorful puppy alone to bathe herself in a stream. She had left him in the forest with the wagon while she traveled a short distance to the stream. Although the golden dog didn't go very far, she was just far enough that Kohaku couldn't see her any more. A sly smile spread across his face as he snuck into the woods. To prevent himself from getting lost, Kohaku ran close to the stream, traveling down it's twisting lengths and chasing anything unlucky enough to be in his path.

The sound of splashing followed closely by a loud word that he didn't recognize caught Kohaku's attention. His oversized ears twitched as he pondered the voice for it had a strange quality to it. However, the tiny puppy wasn't experienced enough to understand why the voice sounded different. Tentatively, the puppy sniffed the air, trying to figure out what type of canine was nearby. Unfortunately, the scent was just as strange as the voice and only served to confuse the puppy further. It didn't take much for Kohaku to be interested and whatever was behind the line was trees was very interesting to him. Kohaku sprinted through the underbrush without a second thought.

What awaited the young male was beyond Kohaku's wildest imagination. A giant, black and orange, oddly shaped dog was wading through the stream. Kohaku couldn't tell how big the dog was, but it was certainly really long. Excited, he stepped out the underbrush and headed strait for the stream. A huge grin was spread across his face. He was going to have another adventure for sure.

Unfortunately for the tiny puppy, he couldn't go very far. Kohaku whined as the stream quickly rose to his chest. He was so far away from the strange dog and was greatly disappointed that he couldn't go any further. "Not fair! Why you big?"

Ovi’s eyes opened suddenly as an unknown scent reached his nose. For a moment, he thought it was the dark man, the trader coming to take his life. But he soon realized that that was not so, and that it was an entirely different scent; he raised his head out of the water. At first, there was nothing, just the subtle movement of the foliage in the breeze, but then, a young pup burst forth from the brush, followed by nothing more than his shadow. He waded into the water as far as he could go and then stopped, chiding Ovidiu for the immensity of his body.

This was the first decent person he had seen in ages, and at first he was stunned, but then a large toothy grin spread over his feline feature. He trotted through the river with large splashes to the young pup and reached out tentatively with a pink nose to sniff at the boy. He smelled of many things; wolves, dogs, chickens, spices; it was almost like the smells of New York City, sans the concrete. Ovi smiled, HI! he piped up joyfully, I’m trying to catch fish, but I’m not doing so well. he frowned then, but knew the young boy wouldn’t judge him for his inadequacies.

The tiger suddenly became wary and backed up; was this pup just a ruse to get him caught by the dark trader? His eyes shifted about the foliage but saw nothing inconspicuous; perhaps he had truly lost his pursuer. He turned then to the boy, My name is Ovidiu, what’s yours? He then realized how much he outweighed the pup, maybe even ten to one; he was larger than he thought, and so lonely…

Large blue eyes watched Kohaku as he waded into the river. Everything about the dog was so big. Its head was big, its eyes were big, its teeth were big, and its body was long. Kohaku had never seen any dog like the one before him. Kohaku smiled and yipped as the orange stranger approached him. Large waves caused by the dog's splashing rose up past his chest and went up the puppy's nose. As the water quickly receded, he sneezed painfully, trying to get all the water out. A big, pink nose came close to him, sniffing him curiously. Kohaku put his own black nose forward and sniffed the stranger. How weird the dog smelled!

By that time, Kohaku's tail was wagging hard and his back legs danced. "Fish!" The mention of food, especially fresh fish, had him excited. Would the dog catch him a fish? Apparently not if he couldn't even catch them. A disappointed frown crossed the puppies face and he said sadly, "No fish?" The tiny male was tired of eating the old meat that Amy gave him. It didn't tastes as good as fresh food and always left a strange taste in his mouth afterwords.

Tired of being in the water, Kohaku gingerly picked his way to shore where he shook himself vigorously. Water flew everywhere and landed in cool patterns on the pebbles. Kohaku stared at the splash marks until the bi-colored stranger introduced himself. Bluish-green eyes shot up and a confused look spread across his face. "Oh-vee... oh-veed... oh-vah... I'm Kohaku!"

Seeing Ovidiu up close made the puppy realize just how big the stranger was. Kohaku's eyes widened as he ran around to see the orange male from the side. "Big dog!" he exclaimed. Kohaku ran underneath the stranger, his curiosity was getting the better of him. Kohaku make it to the stranger's other side before he noticed Ovidu's long tail. A mischievous grin crossed the puppy's face as he lunged towards the long appendage.

The pup seemed as disappointed in there being no fish caught as Ovi was, and the tiger shook his head sadly and watched as the pup clambered back onto land and shook himself. For a moment, the cat though the pup had lost interest already and would bound away to it's mother, but instead, he stayed and tried his best at pronouncing Ovidiu's name. The Siberian cat laughed a little, Just Ovi, it's easier. he said, smiling and joining the pup on the bank. He shook as well, nearly soaking the pup again with his spray, but ahh it felt so good; he felt renewed!

Kohaku then said something that surprised Ovi greatly; he called him a big dog. He had assume it was he that was being talked about, because a quick glance around confirmed that it was only the two of them. He looked at the boy, Oh... He said softly, a little sad that he had tell the pup the truth, that he was as far from a wolf or any dog as one could get. I'm... not a dog... I'm a big cat, a tiger. He said softly, a little bit ashamed. He looked away then, his white tipped tail flicking behind him, I wish I was a dog... he said even more quietly.

Ovi had always wished that he could be like his canine sisters, the ones he had grown up with. He had no memory of his mother, and the ones of his feline siblings were fast fading. He felt that he thought like a dog, acted like a dog, but he knew very much that he wasn't a dog. Still, his life woulds surely have been much easier had he been one, and he wouldn't be on the run now. Now slightly agitated, Ovi leaned over the surface of the water and swatted at his reflection. There was a splash, and suddenly a silvery, flapping body flying through the air, and landing a yard or so off, No way!

Saying the dog's name was hard. It was almost as long as his name, but it wasn't as easy. In fact, Kohaku's own name was easy. He had to try really hard to say it and it had taken him days just to learn how to say it properly. Kohaku nodded enthusiastically as the orange and black adult laughed and gave him an easier name to say. "Ovi," he shouted happily. The puppy didn't have a lot of control over his voice and shouting was commonplace for the tiny male. Kohaku laughed as the older dog shook himself and sprayed the puppy with water. Kohaku had to shake himself again to get the extra water off, leaning slightly as he tired to spray Ovi in return.

The colorful pup's butt wagged as he got ready to pounce at the other's tail. Kohaku lunged just as Ovi said that he wasn't a cat. A frown crossed Kohaku's face for two reasons. The first and most important, he had missed Ovi's tail. The other reason why he frowned was because Ovi had said he wasn't a dog. Kohaku stood and looked at the tiger with confused eyes. "Not dog... tiger?" So his new companion was a tiger, the pup nodded without actually understanding what Ovi had said.

Because Ovi had admitted that he wasn't a dog, Kohaku's interest in the stranger increased ten fold. What was a tiger or a cat? Could a tiger shift like dogs and wolves could? Why were tigers so big? Kohaku followed after the Ovi enthusiastically, still trying to catch the other's tail. He growled and pounced at the bi-colored tail, but couldn't seem to get a handle on Ovi's long appendage. A loud splash and cry caught the puppy's attention and he stopped trying to grab onto Ovi's tail. There upon the bank was a fish, its silver body undulated at it struggled on the bank.

Kohaku let out a happy yip as he dashed towards the fish. He pawed at it playfully, growling and yipping as it moved. The fish was too big for him to grab, but that didn't stop the tiny male from trying.

Ovi’s eyes were wide as he watched Kohaku playfully bound over to the flopping fish and bat at it. The tiger’s stomach growled longingly but he knew what he had to do, so he went to the boy and fish and released long, black crawls from their sheaths and eviscerated the fish. It immediately was dead, and it’s pink innards glistened in the sunlight. It smelled wonderful, and Ovi licked his lips, but instead of digging in he look at Kohaku, Eat, I know you’re hungry. Pups were always hungry.

He then sat down next to the boy and wondered if he might have alerted his parents to his location. Ovi probably wasn’t safe here anymore; the pup was absolutely no threat, but what if he had the strength of a whole pack behind him? Ovidiu didn’t stand a chance against a gang of angry wolves, and so he looked down at Kohaku warily and with a little bit of sadness in his eyes, It was very nice meeting you Kohaku, maybe we’ll see each other again sometime. But I have to go now… His voice trailed off, and he stood once more and headed towards the river.

The cat splashed back into the cool water, but raised his head to look back at the pup once more, Goodbye! He called, and then ran as fast as the water would allow him down the river, and away from any danger that there might be.

Kohaku bat his paws at the flopping fish, it's body writhed in protest as it struggled to breathe. Tiny growls erupted from Kohaku and he yipped as the fish brought its tail up in a vain attempt to smack the retreating puppy. Even though he was small and cute, Kohaku was a hunter to the core and took pleasure in playing with live prey. However, the pup's fun ended as Ovi came up behind the boy and gutted the fish. A delicious smell filled the air and make Kohaku drool. His stomach protested the display, begging for the fresh meat that it had been denied.

The hungry puppy wasted no time in digging into the fist once Ovi had given him the go ahead. He was too young to understand polite conversation and was only fixated on feeding himself. It wasn't that Kohaku was trying to be rude, he just didn't know any better. The fresh fish was a wonderful treat and he devoured its flesh greedily. Kohaku only looked up when Ovi started to talk again. His maw dripped with fish innards and he stared up at the big cat innocently. "Ovi going?" In the short time that they were together, the puppy had grown attached to the tiger and was sad to hear that Ovi was leaving. He didn't understand why his new friend had to leave.

Changing eyes watched as Ovi splashed into the river and a tiny whine escaped from his lips. He tried to follow the tiger, but the river was too deep. Kohaku stood on the stream's wet banks and watched as the other disappeared from view.
