Aiming uselessly at nothing, Axelle attempted to train with her crossbow, but there was nothing to shoot at. She could shoot at trees- boring- or shoot at moving targets, but there weren’t any that were shootable around. She supposed that she would have to pick up and move. Luckily, she didn’t bring much with her today. She left her sword and bag in her den, and brought only her crossbow. She remembered where she found the gutted rabbit- there was a large bunny sanctuary there. She would have to get close, climb a tree, and wait.

Axelle slung the crossbow over her shoulder and ventured out into the woods. She didn’t smell anything dangerous around and so there was no need to be armed and ready. Tree after tree she passed with nothing that would tell her that she was close to where she needed to be. She was starting to worry that she was going the wrong way, and with no smell of blood to guide her this time, it was growing on her.

It wasn’t any smell that told her she had been going the right way, it was the sound. The sound of little rabbit feet scurrying around the forest floor. Axelle sharpened her pace, quick but carefully quiet, until she passed the log where she buried the carcass nearby. Then she decided to attempt to scramble up a tree. She looked around and selected one that looked easy enough to climb. She approached it. The knobs along the tree looked simple enough to put her feet on and grab with her hands. She scrambled her way up the tree successfully and without alerting the rabbits of her arrival.

The view from the tree was perfect. She could see the rabbits, from a distance, packing food into their dens and collecting food from elsewhere. She carefully and silently got the crossbow off of her back, and fixed herself to aim. She equipped the weapon with an arrow and carefully pulled the wire back so that the arrow would hold in place and it would be loaded. When she was done, she sat in a half-crouching, half-laying position in the tree and waited for the right moment…

Waiting too long would've let the moment pass, so when she felt the moment was right - she pressed the trigger and let an arrow fly toward the horde of rabbits. It hit one directly in the head, and the rest scattered like cockroaches back into their holes. The arrow seemingly killed it on the spot, and also connected it's head with the ground. There was a pool of blood forming around it's little body, and Axelle jumped down from the tree to examine it. "Good shot..." she mumbled as she examined where the arrow hit it. Right in the eye socket, the spot where anything would die instantly. She was a capable killing machine, and the best part was - that whoever she killed didn't even have to see it coming.

[html]

Mido carefully walked through woods, steady and diligent with his footing. Not long ago since his discovery of the trailer park to the south of the howling caverns with Octavious, the male had made another trip back to poke around some more. He still had barely covered the mobile home community, his last visit he found a compound bow with arrows. His subconscious need for weapons forced him to take it, even though he had zero experience with this kind of weapon. He’d spent sometime going around shooting at trees, because he figured they would be the only thing he could hit. The Marbas realized rather quickly that he was indeed a very bad shot. The mutt couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn; starting out with ten arrows he already completely lost two of them. Holding the bow in the air, he wondered how anyone could be good at this kind of thing. He was far from weak, but it really was hard for him to draw the bow back, he didn’t even know how to properly aim the damn thing. Mido shook his head thinking that he and this bow were a lost cause, almost unfixable. Grrr, this blows! Stamping his left foot he had a bit of a fit, wanting to just chuck it and forget it.

The smell of blood wreaked havoc in his nose. His mind ran amok, wondering what had happened, he imagined the worst. Trusting his nose he quickly ran in the direction of the source. The multicolored male stopped just short of the overwhelming smell, the protection of the forests cover hid him well. The Huskadore intently looked around the forest ahead of him as he hid behind the girth of a large oak with the bow in his left hand. He spotted a canine a ways off, from the side all he could see was the black, until the wind carried the familiar scent to his nasal. It’s Axelle. The male felt a little stupid, who else would be hunting on Anathema’s lands? It certainly would be idiotic of an outsider to be doing any form of hunting with in their territory. Hey Axelle! Mido moved toward the female warrior, apparently she was spending some quality time with her crossbow.

Tugging and twisting the arrow out of the rabbit’s eye socket, Axelle heard another voice. She stood up from her crouching position with the bloody arrow and realized it was Mido. ”Hello, Mido. What brings you out here today?” Nothing like asking the obvious, probably about the same thing she was doing. Her eyes left him, and she scooped the rabbit’s bloody body up in her other hand. Her crossbow was slung on her back, and she motioned Mido to follow her.

She walked through the forest, and out into a clearing where she knew there was an old fire already set up. She had a lighter tucked away into a pocket that was equipped to her crossbow strap. She lit it and through it into the fire pit. The fire ignited in the matter of seconds, creating a large pit fit for cooking. Axelle pulled a small hunting knife from a strap on her ankle and began cutting the skin from the rabbit’s limp body. She looked up at Mido while she did this, eyeing the bow he had with him. ”Practicing with your bow?” She motioned him to let her see it better, and then went back to skinning. ”Looks like a good one. Where’d you find it?” She found hers in a weapons shop, but others were bound to be in houses around and were just as good.

When most of the tough fur and skin was shaved away, she started cutting the actual meat off the carcass, leaving the insides encased in the bones. She wasn’t a big organ eater. Axelle looked up at Mido briefly and motioned him to sit down next to her, a few feet away from the fire. She handed him an arrow. ”To cook your meat.” And then she stuck a slab of meat onto the arrow. She finished cutting her piece of meat off of the rabbit and stuck it on her already bloody arrow. She placed the carcass away from them. It had only fur on the head, along with the ears, and the hind feet. The meat from the torso was skinned away and now neatly placed on their arrows. She would bury the body later.

She held her arrow over the fire to let the meat cook. ”I hope you were hungry,” she said with a smile realizing she just forced food on him. It wasn’t a lot of food, just a little snack. She would need about five whole rabbits to satisfy an empty stomach – but since her stomach wasn’t that empty, she would share her snack with Mido.

Mido’s gaze caught the dual colored woman efficiently yank the arrow out from the bouncing creature’s skull before greeting him. If not for trying to practice with the bow, the weather itself would have dragged him out of the caverns one way or another. It’s a nice day. Smiling he replied to her amusingly. Picking up the rabbit she returned the bow to her back and gestured for him to follow her, he did without hesitating. Axelle had led him to a clearing where there looked to be a fire pit. Like a magician she produced a lighter and had a fire going in no time at all.

He watched the female Marbas work on the animal, pulling its skin off. He made some sort laugh kind of grunt toward her question about practicing with the bow. He could practice for ever and probably get nowhere; he was so terrible with it. She asked about where he’d gotten the compound bow in his left hand. He quickly looked around, ready to point in the direction, he realized that he had lost his bearings. A little while back Octavius and I stumbled across an abandoned trailer park; that’s where I found this. He spoke glancing at it briefly before looking back to her. It had a black sheen to it, he really didn’t know what it was made of though, and resembling some kind of metal it was strong and flexible.

Mido’s focus was entirely on her diligently working away at the rabbit. His blue eyes met her different colored gaze; he sat upon her silent calling to do so. The mutt took the arrow from her; a curious look of question graced his face. Upon her words his stomach uttered something fierce, a roar more frightening than some canines could be. She’s good! Couldn’t be a better time to get some grub, Yum! Putting the the hunk of rabbit into the fire he gave it a little burn as it cooked. The aroma of the fire and meat together played games in the half and half’s head. His eyes dilated, taking deep inhalations through his nose. Mmmmm. His mouth watered severely, licking his teeth with anticipation, a little drool escaped his mouth and hit the dirt. That was embarrassing, what an animal! His tail wagged hard enough to his side, making him jump a bit. I was starving, and didn’t even know it. Axelle, you, are, awesome! He really did enjoy these kinds of things. The hybrid didn’t have too many friends, he liked being around the bicolored woman. She was one of the few who had seen him tick, he had grown very comfortable with her, as a friend and mentor. Putting the partially cooked meat to his lips he nibbled it before really going for it, careful not to eat the arrow. The mix chewed slowly trying to savor the flavor as it rolled around in his mouth. Wow, like I died and went to heaven. He wasn’t religious, just thankful. Tearing the last bit free from the arrow he swallowed. That was great, thank you.

Axelle let her meat cook a little longer, while Mido scoffed his down. She preferred hers to be a little more cooked, but of course ate it raw sometimes too. When she was in Optime, though, she made sure to get all the benefits out of cooking. While she held her slab over the fire, she looked at Mido, nodding her head as she took in what he said. She smiled widely when he called her ‘awesome’. He must have really been hungry after all. ”Thanks, I try.” She said jokingly still with the big smile. She flipped her meat to the other side, carefully turning the arrow. The wood around it became black from the fire's smoke, but it would be equally strong- if not, stronger.

Back to the bow, ”Well, are you any good with it?” Last time she remembered, Mido was a sword guy, and now he had a bow. She wondered if he was a multi-tasker like herself. She flipped her meat to the opposite side to let it cook better on that side. She held the stick out over the fire while she kept her gaze on Mido, interested in what he had to say. She smiled once again, widely, when he thanked her for the food. ”No problem, Mido. Anytime.” She took her meat off of the flame and took a bite out of it. Still a little chewy, but goooooddd. ”It’s good practice when you’re hungry. That way you’re doing it for a reason and not just shooting and killing rabbits for nothing.” She took another bite, chewed and swallowed, and continued, ”And not being wasteful.” She hated to waste things. It was one of the reasons she buried the carcasses – she believed that whenever she buried a carcass that wasn’t fully eaten, another of that animal is born to replace the dead one. The circle of life continues to feed the wolves.

The female warrior asked if he was any good with the bow he carried. Mido almost keeled over, toning down the outburst of his laughter before it escaped his lips, he chuckled deeply thinking about his attempts prior to running into her. Facing the other Marbas he slowly shook his head. Nope, I couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn if I tried to. If I had to rely on this here to kill prey, I would surely starve, and the only thing I might hurt is myself. It was like starting from square one with this kind of weapon. The male was stubborn enough that he wouldn’t quit or ever give up on it though. He was never quite satisfied with the skills he possessed or the things he had, thus fueling his own personal fire to do better and gain more. Mido listened to Axelle speak about shooting things for good reason and not just uselessly killing for the sake of killing. It was a side to her the male had yet to see, she seemed to compensate for her strong personality with reasonable sense and logic; she was a down to earth female.

The hybrid saw how she made a quick meal out of that rabbit with a single clean shot. His sights didn’t shift from her as the wheels in his head began to turn once again. Taking a single finger he strummed the string on his bow feeling the reverberations travel up his forearm. I’m just assuming that you’re amazing with that bow of yours, since you hit the rabbit right in the eye and all. Think you could give me a few pointers on how to use this thing. He asked for her help yet again, this time though he wouldn’t lose it and go crazy on her. If he kept asking the split colored woman for favors he would eventually come to owe her something in return.

Hearing Mido’s bad news of not being able to use his bow, Axelle’s ear tuned in to what he was saying. She continued munching on the meat on her arrow, while also devising a plan. She had already read his mind before he asked her, and when he finally did – she had an idea. ”Well, alright.” She tugged the last piece of meat off of the arrow and put the arrow away, letting Mido keep his. He seemed to be in short supply of arrows, while she wasn’t. He would need them anyway.

”Come on.” She got up, and motioned him to follow her again. She led him into the forest, leaving the fire pit and taking the rabbit carcass with her. She circled around where she last killed the rabbit, and dug a small hole with her hands near a tree. When the hole was big enough, she placed the rabbit’s carcass in there and threw the dirt on top of it until it was buried well. Then she led Mido away to a spot where she could hear little bunny feet running around. She picked a large enough tree for them both to climb, and scrambled up the side. ”Use the knobs to place your hands and feet.” The way she did it was easy enough, although it wasn’t every day that wolves climbed trees.

When she was successfully up there, she scooted over to the far side of the branches, making room for him. The trees trunk was thick enough to accommodate for both of them, so that they would be able to crouch easily without worrying about falling out or breaking anything. Axelle sometimes wondered if this tree was put there for this exact purpose. ”Be quiet, and come up here. Get yourself adjusted, and we’ll start the lesson,” she whispered to him and ushered him up to the tree.

The mutt had been finished eating when he explained his dilemma to her. He fiddled with the Arrow she’d lent him, spinning it between his fingers as she finished the little meat she had left. She told him to follow as she physically motioned for him, and he did. She was kind enough to agree to help him improve upon his nonexistent bow skills, so he wouldn’t question anything she would tell him to do. Mido kept an eye on the other Marbas, interested by the presence of the deceased rabbit she carried with her. The dual colored woman took the time to bury the remains of the meal they shared together.

The female guided him to an overly large tree that she climbed up and instructed him to do the same. Taking a moment to look over the tree for knobs, he thought about how often he’d climbed trees, it wasn’t very often. Grasping the knots his nails dug into the bark’s surface as he pulled himself off the ground, he moved his way up the tree assisting with his legs remaining quiet as the Napier woman told him. Before the Marbas knew it he was on the branch crouched with the bow by his side. His eyes darted in every which direction watching the movement of the hopping rodents.

Looking to Axelle the Huskadore wondered what she had in mind for this Lesson she was planning. Grabbing the bow he counted the number of arrows he had, nine including the one leant to him. The half and half was pretty certain that nine arrows wouldn’t be sufficient for his lack of experience, but he was eager to learn and would do just about anything to get better. Taking an arrow he loaded the compound bow, he could at least do that. Ready to draw the bow and fire he waited patiently. Alright Axelle, now what? He asked in a hushed voice that was loud enough to reach her ears but not too loud to disturb the unsuspecting critters.

PP with him following her instruction, sorry O.o [WC: 410 || Pts: 3]

Axelle watched the rabbits hop around the former blood splatter of their comrade. A few stopped to sniff, and the rest continued on to gather food and eat and bullshit. When Mido got himself situated in the tree, she turned to him. Her words of wisdom would have to be enough for him to soak in. There was no way she could teach him aim, but she could teach him control and the mindset in order for him to concentrate on hitting his target. ”Okay. These are moving targets, some of them. Most of them. A little harder to hit than a dummy, but that’s okay. This way you’ll learn quicker in a shorter amount of time.” Axelle’s bow was automatic. There was no need for her to pull a string back, unless she was loading it, and aim holding the string and arrow. She just pulled the string back and put the arrow in place, and then pulled the trigger when she was ready. His method was a little bit more tedious. ”I’m going to attempt to teach you all I know before you let your first arrow go. Go ahead, aim.” Her voice was smooth and hushed, and there was no way that anything else could hear her but him.

When he followed her instruction, she continued, ”Good. Now clear your mind, hang on to my voice, and focus all your attention on one rabbit. Follow its movements with your eyes, and drown out everything else that might take your concentration away. Except for me.” She corrected his stance, moving his arms to a more comfortable, more effective position and moving his fingers to where he would be able to aim the bow better. ”Wait for the right moment, but don’t wait too long, and when you think that there’s no way that you can miss, let the arrow go.”

She hoped that he would be able to get this first one; that way, his confidence would be boosted and he would be delighted to train, not drag his ass at training time. She was a natural with hers, but then again, her bow skipped a lot of steps that his needed in order to be used correctly. He should’ve gotten a crossbow instead. Axelle trained hard for a long time before she was this good, though her aim was always pretty good from the first time she used it. Aim would be gained with more practice.

The Marbas had been situated atop the branch with his bow patiently awaiting her instruction. As the male thought when he saw the rabbits, Axelle’s strategy was to have him fire at moving targets. She explained that they were harder to hit than motionless targets, but it would allow him to learn quicker. Mido didn’t question the female warrior; he would have to believe her without a doubt if he wanted to get better. The half and half positioned the bow in his hand and aimed it in the direction of the small cluster of hopping rodents.

He’d listened to closely to every word that escaped her lips. The split colored woman essentially placed him in a trance. He held a focus on one gray and white colored hare that couldn’t be rivaled. Axelle made physical adjustments to his fingers and posture, mentally taking note of the feel. The male noticed a slight shift in his vision when narrowing and closing one eye or the other. She warned to wait for the right moment of absolute certainty without losing the target. For him this was easier said then done, the tension created by drawing the bow was immense and put a lot of strain on his arms.

The Huskadore released the grip his fingers held on the string for he could hold on much longer. The arrow’s travel was seemingly instantaneous, unable to see it before actually hitting his target. The arrow head plowed through its lower end, from the left side the rear through the hip and into the ground. YYEESSS! His outburst caused the creatures to run around in frantic chaos. He felt a little bad though, aiming for the head, the large hare now probably suffered in agony; Axelle probably would have made a head shot, keeping it painless. The mix looked to woman near him, wearing a sheer look of joy on his face, like a kid in a candy shop. He couldn’t believe the difference, from losing arrows in the woods to hitting a moving target. She really was very good at teaching. That was awesome.

Woohoo go Mido Big Grin [WC: 367 || Pts: 3]

Axelle watched as Mido held the bow’s string – his arm was a little shaky, and he might need to work on his arm muscles. She watched him let the arrow soar all the way through a brown hare’s hind legs. The creature struggled on the ground trying to get away, but it wasn’t able to go anywhere as it was connected with the earth. Axelle slapped Mido on the back in a ‘job well done’ kind of thing, and then jumped down from the tree. He was seemingly happy, and she had no doubt that he would follow to look at his trophy.

She approached the struggling rabbit, and had the urge to let it go. She hated seeing things suffer, especially cute little rodents. ”Well done, Mido! Your aim will get better with practice.” She pulled the arrow out of the creature’s legs the opposite way, careful to try not to cause it anymore pain than it already was in. There was no reason any innocent animal had to suffer, unless it was lunch. Axelle held the rabbit up to Mido by the ears. ”Take it if you’re going to do anything useful with it; if not, let it go.” She handed him the rabbit by the ears, and it struggled with what body parts it could still move. It’s hind legs were limp probably due to broken bones and torn muscles. ”Better off eating it or making it your new pet. I doubt it will ever be able to walk again.” She looked back over her shoulder as she looked around for anything else that could come of use. There was nothing but scattered collected food and the bloody arrow in her hand. All the other rabbits scurried into their hiding places, and she had no idea where those were located. Just as well.

She handed him the other arrow, and motioned him to follow her again. ”Let’s walk back to the caves.” She led the way, leaving him to decide whether to leave the rabbit or take it, and giving him a minute to decide what to do with it. Axelle walked up ahead, knowing that Mido would catch up to her in time.

WC::327 OOC:: Gimps don't make good pets Sad

Mido was still caught in a stunned state, he actually hit something, a moving target, he was ecstatic really. The Marbas verbally explained the concepts of the bow and given him some physical adjustments, thus resulting in his success. She gave him a congratulatory clap upon his back. She hoped out of the tree and he quickly followed to get a closer look at the hare. The black and white colored woman briefly praised shot and said his aim would improve. The male really hoped it would, he was going to keep at it. Axelle expertly removed the arrow from the damaged rodent and offered it to him by the ears. She mentioned that he sould eat it or make it a pet. Mido couldn’t just let it go or have it as a pet, not like this anyhow, it wouldn’t walk again. There were plenty of things he could do with the hare, its skin, bones, meat and he might even offer the eyeballs to Malakai for all he knew.

He took the hare from her and sadly looked upon the destroyed creature. Sorry I couldn’t make this easy. Pained, soundless gasps escaped the rodent’s mouth. The woman motioned for him, saying they should go back to their home. Yeah. The half and half answered her before returning his attention back the animal. You won’t go to waste, I promise. The huskadore reached his right hand around it’s throat giving it a quick and overly forceful squeeze. He ended its miserable life by crushing its neck, figuring it was the quickest kindest thing he could for it now. The hare dangled limp and lifeless in his hand as he moved after his friend. She hadn’t gotten far and it would be little bit before they arrived back at the howling caverns. So if you’re not training, what do you do for fun? There wasn’t much to do other than shoot the shit and talk with her.

LOL eyeballs for Kai xD [WC: 305 || Pts: 3]

It was a few minutes before Mido caught up with her. She eyed the lifeless rabbit and figured he was the type to keep pets. Axelle was careful with her footing on the rugged forest floor. She was careful not to step on twigs or tree branches that would alert anyone else of her presence – not that it mattered. They were still talking loudly, but she wanted to work on her stealth. She lifted her head from watching the ground to look at him, and then reply to his question, ”Well, I’m either spending time with Malakai – yes, we’re kinda a ‘thing’ now – or traveling around to new places like new cities around Halifax – Thornhill District is a good place to get rocker clothes - or just shooting shit, mostly rabbits, and doing an occasional patrol around the borders, though I never find anything worthwhile.”

Out of all the times she patrolled, she only found one person there – Xy’rin, and she wasn’t even there for pack related reasons. She needed to speak with Naniko, so even then she didn’t get to deal with trespassers. She craved a good fight here and there, whether it was physical or verbal. She got her physical share a few days ago, but that was another story.

They cleared the trees, entering the meadow that surrounded the Howling Caverns. It consisted of rolling hills, grassy and green nonetheless. A few rocks and cliffs here and there, and a few buildings around like old mills and country things that humans would use. It, at least, was easier to walk now without having to steer clear of twigs and tree branches and other sharp object hidden under the blanket of leaves on the forest floor. ”What about you?” She was happy to say that she could at least call Mido a friend.

He’d caught up with Axelle, the hare gently hitting his left leg as he moved. The male was curious what other canines did for fun, because no two canines were the same or thought exactly alike in his eyes. Answering his question, she quickly summarized some of her activities. He was a bit taken back, the statement about her and Malakai being a thing. Oh, you and Malakai? No kidding. They must have really hit off. Mido could only clearly envision his first and only impression of the black colored male. He was young, arrogant, ignorant, naïve, and looked to possibly be troublesome, if that was what she liked, good for her as long as they got along. The Marbas enjoyed the idea off messing with the recent addition to Anathema, always good to keep his type in check.

The dual colored woman turned the question around on him. Me? Not much I guess. He spoke as used the bow to scratch the back of his head. He really didn’t have many friends. If he wasn’t training he was always trying to feel productive in some other way. If I’m not training or causing some mild trouble and mischief, I guess I’m pretty eager to learn anything knew… Otherwise I’m not doing anything, I need to get out more often. He sighed after his very matter of fact statement toward Axelle. Other than the occasional trip to Halifax, he hadn’t been around to anywhere else really, it would probably be really fun if not at least interesting to travel, visit some other packs and territories. Mido needed some kind of change in his life to keep things exciting. Choosing to become a warrior for Anathema was the best decision for him, he had the need to protect and be of use. If any kind of threat or war involving his home took place he would be one of the first to help, but he couldn’t foresee that happening anytime in the near future. Maybe he needed to meet a new woman, or many women just for the sake of meeting them. I dunno, I’m rather boring I suppose. He shrugged as looked to his friend, the bored husky in him stood out on his face.

You can post after, whatever – this is my last post – I look forward to threading with you soon Smile [WC: 316 || Pts: 3]

Mido’s life seemed dull, and this upset Axelle a little. She remembered when she was bopping around and didn’t know what to do, but she always managed to get herself into something whether it was finding new things in Halifax or traveling and meeting new wolves. ”Yeahhh, me and Malakai. He’s not so bad once you crack his protective shell.” He was like an egg – hard and protected on the outside and soft and mushy on the inside. Everyone had a protective covering, she guessed.

Axelle nodded while she thought of things to suggest to Mido. He would be busy training with his bow now, hopefully, she thought. He needed to practice often to become as good as she was. ”Well, Mido, I consider you as a friend and whenever you’re bored out of your mind and want something to do, come find me. You know where I’m at.” She did consider him as a friend, even after only being his teacher. She sensed that he had a good heart and he would make excellent friend material, and even excellent mate material once he found that lucky lady. ”Have you considered finding a mate yet?” It was a pretty random question, but when Malakai came along – her life changed for the better too. Significant others tend to make life a little more interesting if you’re in a rut.” She knew.

The two kept walking, reaching the caves in the matter of a few silent moments. She wasn’t sure if he wanted to go home yet, so she left him at the cave entrance. Before going, she turned to face him, ”My offer still stands- If you’re ever bored, come find me either in my den or around. Most likely I’ll be in my den, though.” She put a hand on his shoulder, ”See you around.” And then she turned and disappeared into the darkness of the caves.
