out of character

For someone who was getting older, Adelle didn't feel very different. She still was far more energetic than most of the other pack members, though Grandpa was starting to move slower. She still wished to be a warrior, and still spent a lot of time working on it. Staring down at a pond Adelle tugged at the short hair curled around her face. It was a practical cut, keeping the long strands she'd shifted with away from being tangled in battle.

Straightening up Adelle stepped over to the sparring ring. Stretching her body Adelle rolled through her warm up before she braced the practice sword. Afterwards she was going to practice reading, if she wasn't really tired. Adelle struggled with reading, avoiding it when she could, despite knowing it was something useful for her to know. Fighting was more her forte, instincts guiding her movements as she began to move through the patterns.

Cadmeia sighed. She felt like she might be losing touch with friends again. But this was who she was. She never did it on purpose. In the blink of an eye it would be weeks later, and Cadmeia would wonder how she'd spent her time. She figured there was no sense in moping - it was best to be proactive - so she went off in search of someone. She missed Adelle - Dell had been growing up while Cadmeia remained a baby. She was jealous of her bumbling friend - everyone seemed to know and love her. But it was undeniable - Cadmeia loved her too, and decided to find her. Easily, she picked up Adelle's scent and took off in her direction. It led her to the sparring ring, where someone tall and short-curled was practicing. Alarmed, Cadmeia stopped. She didn't recognize this one. But she wore Adelle's scent! Nervously she approached. It was only once she observed the creature's movements more closely did she realize...it WAS Adelle. She...she could shift now? A sudden pang shot through Cadmeia's gut. She and Adelle used to be the same - the two little ones of the pack. Now Dell was...well, she wasn't a baby anymore, that was for sure. Was this jealousy she was feeling? Cadmeia thought about it for a moment. It wasn't as much jealousy as it was a longing for her female companion. She'd hoped Adelle hadn't changed too much. She leapt up onto the ring and watched proudly as Adelle fought strong.

Adelle moved through, finishing up the set. Pausing the large dog took in a breath, letting herself slow down. Her body wasn't sore, the endurance of her species supporting her. Designed for hardship muscles ran through her body, despite the thick layer of fur hiding it away. It was undeniable how strong she had grown. Lifting the practice blade Adelle prepared for the next set when the scent of a fox reached her. Turning her head she spotted Cadmeia, neatly perched on the outskirts of the ring.

Tail swaying she promptly dropped the stick, bounding over. Cadi! She grinned foolishly at the childish nickname before halting. She felt a little odd on two legs before her, unsure how to proceed with the greeting. She couldn't exactly tackle her, and scooping her up felt like a silly thing to do. Settling with kisses Adelle washed the fox's face with licks. How are you? I shifted! I'm a full warrior now.
