WC :: 696 :: Setting is for June 7th in the afternoon, near the border she was found at after the attack. It is now 8 days after the assault. In optime form (healing in this until further notice) and currently in heat. Ribs are still tightly wrapped and there is a large poultice on her inner thigh and neck. Bruising around her right eye is still dark, bruising throughout the right side is getting better (shades of purple and dark reds, yellowish where it’s healing faster). Bruising on her wrists is still visible and the rope burns are scabbed over as well as the rest of the cuts along her body.

Jiva had seemed to be in such high spirits when he had woken Drin up in the morning. The young man had brought the battered girl breakfast, quail eggs which was her favorite and hard to come by! He had even hunted down two rabbits to last her the rest of the day, as he said he had some errands to run. She had laughed at his enthusiasm and didn’t question his intentions, but she figured the man was getting a little stir crazy himself, what with staying within the pack lands for over a week now and tending to her every need. Her needs were few and far in between, but she still felt bad that he invested most of his time in her. However, the mohawked male had assured her time and time again, that he didn’t mind.

Palaydrian couldn’t put up much of a fight when he flashed her his heartwarming smiles or placed gentle kisses on her forehead or cheek, so she just kind of went with it. It felt nice to have someone take care of you, and to be provided for even if you never asked for it. Jiva was very much so attentive to her and made sure she never wanted for anything. She knew she was in love, but she hadn’t said the words since their drunken night in the human town. The young fae was sure he knew how she felt though. What with the slew of affectionate flirtations she threw at him, or the way she nuzzled him every time he brought her back something to eat. He had to know how she felt, it was painfully obvious.

Drin was being “bad” and had left her usual area, the small grove of trees right outside of the communal den, to venture further into the pack territory. More specifically, the Siamese coated fae was retracing the path her love had taken when he carried her back to the den. Drin had been unconscious during the whole ordeal, but once she made it to the border, memories came flying back at her. The lithe optime knelt down in the grass where her blood still stained the dirt and the leather satchel she had made with Jiva weeks ago lay neglected on its side. Her gloved hands lightly grazed over the grass and leaves before they rested on the deerhide bag. That day had been full of pain and anguish, and at the moment she felt empty.

A sickly scent permeated the air here, and she knew it was coming from the bag. Tipping the contents out, moldy berries scattered about in the grass and rested atop of the blood stains. Drin made a disgusted face when she noticed some of the berries were moving, maggots had made their home in the decaying fruit flesh, but other than that, the bag was still usable. She stood up with a sigh and turned away from the scene to walk in the direction of the river without so much as a glance behind her. The back of her hand, wiping away the tears that hadn’t fallen.

By the river, Drin rested in a spot of sun, often frequented by butterflies.. She had washed out the bag, laid it out to dry on a rock, and now she was dipping her large optime feet in the flowing water while the sun warmed her body. Her eyes were closed while she listened to birdsong and relaxed. She vaguely wondered when Jiva would be back, but mostly her thoughts were on the the sounds and smells around her. Lately it seemed all the females in New Dawn were in bloom along with the rest of the flora in the area. The thought made her smile, her home was fertile and she was sure their leaders would be breaking some good news to the pack soon. Will I ever have pups of my own? The golden girl thought to herself, blushing with the idea, but not completely turned off by it. A family of her own...mohawked little monsters. Her thoughts began focusing on love and building families.

Word count 449:: Zalen is also in Optime

His mind had been set into turmoil again after the attack on yet another of his members. He had been getting over the attack on Fayne, and it helped that his mate was now ready to conceive, but then like a dark blow the ravaging of Palaydrian had sent him reeling. He was angry, his heart full of loathing. He knew the coyote that had attacked her could not possibly be of Inferni, but he still got a sour taste in his mouth when he thought about it. Now it seemed New Dawn had two enemies; Amy, the twisted trader, and Aram, the lecherous coyote bastard. How dare they? And yet, even with Zalen fuming and spitting fire like a dragon, he felt at a loss of what to do.

To ease his mind, the large Alpha had been scouting the borders more and more, as well as making sure the others did to. Though both attacks happened outside of the territory, the added security of watchful eyes helped to ward off paranoia. But the leader’s mind was ever turning, trying to figure out just what he could do to protect his family. He couldn’t ask them to no longer stray from the borders, there was no freedom in that. Perhaps asking them to go in pairs at least, or not stray too far when going alone. He sighed, what a mess this all was.

Turning away from the border, Zalen heading back into the heart of the territory, as he neared the den site, a strange, sickly sweet scent reached his nose. The closest thing he could attribute it to was the smell of dying flowers in the wet of autumn, but this was much more intense. He turned to go investigate, and headed towards the river from which the scent was wafting. As he got closer, a familiar smell came to him, and he saw her just as soon as he smelt her.

Palaydrian was lying in the grass in the sunlight, the river beside her sparkling and bubbling as it ran past. Butterflies alighted around her, and had it not been for her obvious injuries, she would have looked like a sleeping angel. But no, the visage was ruined by the bruising and the bandages; Zalen’s ears flicked back against his head and he whined as he approached. She was in Optime, and he had not had the chance of looking at her in this form before; she was lovely, nearly holding the same body lines as his beloved. He said nothing but instead laid down beside her, nuzzling his black nose into the soft of her neck; she smelled of medicine, and berries, and Jiva.

OOC i feel bad for what amy did after reading this, and she wasn't even the one that hurt Drin! poor pack, attracting so much negative stuff. I'm planning more with Fayne as well...

Tharin had been working hard to become able to fight. He couldn't believe that his pack had been harmed. Both times it had been a sweet soul that hadn't deserved the pain. Both times it had been someone that he wished to protect, yet had fallen short of doing so. True, he didn't know Palaydrian really well, beyond the fact that she had a beautiful name and was rather sweet in nature. She was pack though, automatically placing her in the category of those he wanted to protect.

Spotting the optime pair lounging by the river Tharin moved close. He looked over the small female carefully, noting her wounds. At least it looked like she was doing better than before. She was in much better condition than if she'd come from his old pack. They wouldn't have had the medicine to be able to care for her wounds. Silently he lied down with them, not yet breaking the silence, just keeping watch.

WC :: 827 :: Aww haha, sounds like the New Dawn females/everyone needs a course in self defense/basic fighting! Pack-wide thread idea? Wink

Caught in a daydream, the battered woman lay belly up to the sky deciding whether or not 6 pups to 4 was too many. She felt the latter was more doable and was entertaining the creation of names for the fantasy children. She’d love to have 2 boys and 2 girls, but even if they were all boys, she knew she had to have at least 1 girl. Months ago, the thought of pups or even puppy making for that matter would have never crossed her mind, but now that she was a seasoned heat monger, if 3 cycles could make you a pro, the young woman’s mind was completely occupied with starting a family. It made her feel like an adult, responsible and powerful. A wielder of life, she so desperately needed to create something of her own, but only one man occupied the counterpart of her desires. A silly grin was playing over her face as she contemplated combining her surname with Jiva’s. TakeSoul, KuroSoul, SoulKuro... the combination of sunshine and grass changed when the telltale musk of her Alpha entered her nares on an inhale.

Her eyes remained closed, Zalen had been stealthy enough, so she’d allow him to approach. Other than Jiva, Zalen was the only other male in the pack that Palaydrian had felt immediately drawn to. She felt comfortable around and more importantly, safe. Drin enjoyed his company and the way his olive eyes reminded her of her own father. He was a pillar of strength in her eyes, someone she knew she could always rely on and talk to if need be. A part of her hoped he hadn’t come to question her about what had happened. She knew she’d be ready when the time came, but today was not that day. She could only imagine how hard it must be on the Alpha to know some things were completely out of his hands. Like Aram. A coyote who smelled of no pack, who attacked her mercilessly, and promised he’d come looking for her if she didn’t find him first ,once she was in full bloom. Well she’d like to see the scarred brute try to find her now, safely nestled within New Dawn territory, and very much so alive and ready for breeding. Drin had thanked the moon and had to assure herself multiple times that he hadn’t done the deed he had threatened to do from the get go. She was still an innocent.

Her alpha was beside her and his snout was in her neck. She whined in affection and surprised pleasure at the gesture, but quickly reminded herself that though she was not mated, her heart was already taken and so was Zalen’s. Heat was a strong force to be reckoned with, but Drin was realizing that it could be controlled, more specifically her own thoughts while her body responded in its natural way. She couldn’t feel embarrassed for the burning in her stomach and lower half, it was only nature that allowed her body to open up as it was in this time. She could feel frisky, but she didn’t always have to act out on impulse. Drin turned her head in the grass and returned the affection with a head bump against the male’s shoulder and a soft lick underneath his chin. She was smiling openly now as her eyes opened and she realized Zalen was also in his optime form. She had hoped it wasn’t for her sake, as New Dawn was a more feral focused pack, and Jiva too had opted to stay in his two legged form so she’d feel more confident while stuck in the form to heal. Yet it made her feel even more welcome that her own leader would walk freely in this form.

Palay’s ocean eyes walked across the dark Alpha’s impressive body. If she hadn’t been so enamored with another, she could easily find herself falling for the man as they had already proven to have easy conversation and that wasn’t just the heat talking. She had been drawn to him in lupus form, one that she considered their true forms, but his Optime form was just as entrancing. Drin moved from her propped up position to sitting up when she sensed the approach of another. Tharin. The scent of her pack brother was a familiar one and though she hadn’t gotten a chance to learn more about him one on one, she had enjoyed a game of moonlit tag with a few weeks ago and the male was already someone good in her book. Zalen, Tharin, what did I do to deserve the presence of such handsome gentleman on this fair afternoon? She asked as a flirty smile played on her bruised face, but she dipped her head in acknowledgement to both of them and plucked a blade of grass to twist in her fingers.

It wasn’t until the Soul femme nuzzled him back that Zalen noticed her heat-scent, and though eh did not outwardly react to it, he was surprised he had not noticed it sooner it. He waited momentarily for his head to swim, his heart-rate to spike, something, but nothing happened. It seemed that his having mated numerous times with Titania now had shut off all his sexual senses to any other female, and this was a good thing. He could not be distracted now, and it seemed nature had taken care of it for him.

The sable Alpha did crack one olive eye to glance at Tharin as he came to lie beside them, and Zalen’s lent over to rub his head into Tharin’s scruff affectionately. He was glad the male was becoming more comfortable around Optime bodies, he remembered the strange look he had been given when Tharin had first arrived. In truth, Zalen was most comfortable in his natural form, and when in the two-legged one he strode on all fours to make it less awkward, but it seemed that everyone was settling down in their roles and beliefs in New Dawn, and with that came a wonderful air of peace.

Palaydrian’s voice suddenly broke the silence, but it was not unwelcome, and Zalen turned to look at her fully, ears perked, as she flirtatiously greeted the two of them with a compliment. Zalen could not help but grin at her, Come now, you can’t truly expect us not to take the opportunity to lie beside a beautiful female now would you? He laughed then, a hearty laugh full of mirth. He had not felt this good in a long time, and now seeing Palaydrian’s good mood he felt better about the whole situation with Amy and Aram. Perhaps everything would just work itself out.

The heat scent didn't draw him in as it had with the other females. His instincts told him that despite the smell she was unfit for pups, and wouldn't be able to bear them. That was enough for him, the draw gone with that simple knowledge. He chuckled as she sat up, flirting clear in her tone. There was nothing drawing him crazy in it, feeling fine to flirt playfully back, not interested in her in that manner.

Even Zalen seemed infected by the good mood that radiated off Palaydrian so brightly. You would think her mate would be afraid to let her out of her sight, lest the wolves came pounding after her. His own smile was more subdued, not yet as comfortable joking around. As far as he was concerned, the pair that he'd seen wandering the territories together were mates, unaware that he might have made a mistake in his words.

WC :: 358 OOC ::

The battered angel was surprised with herself. Days turned into weeks after she had been chased out of her homelands, when a depression swallowed her whole. She had been so shaken up by the attack Kila had planned against her and she hadn’t thought she’d be able to trust anyone again. Yet here she was in her new home, less than a week after her run in with Aram, and the girl was able to laugh and enjoy the company of her pack brothers. If not for the constant reminder of pain in her ribs or the bruising, she might have believed the entire thing was just a bad dream. But it wasn’t, that much was true as she noticed the blur in her right eye had yet to clear up as Deuce suggested it would as she peered down at the blade of grass in her hand. Hopefully sooner than later as it disoriented her vision, but it was more of an annoyance than anything.

Zalen’s laugh was infectious and she joined in with him, her giggle was a bit raspy, but it bubbled forth just the same. Her grinning eyes beamed as she playfully knocked into Zalen’s side, How could you possibly call me a beauty? Drin snorted, as she grandly gestured to her face and the bandages wound tightly around her ribs to include both her Alpha and Tharin in the joke. Turning lemons into lemonade...that was how she was able to get back the dark stuff.

Her free flowing laughter slowly sputtered out at her pack brother’s comment, but seeing his unsure smile made her warm one stay in place. Her heart strings tugged in an uncomfortable direction, but she couldn’t blame Tharin for assuming she was with someone. Palaydrian most likely wreaked of Jiva as he’d been by her side since the incident. An embarrassed blush warmed her face as she replied, I suppose the two of you would battle them off then, as nobody has named me their bride. The wolfess shrugged half heartedly, trying to play off her wounded feelings as just another joke.

Zalen did take note of Tharin’s apparent lack of reaction to Palaydrian’s heat scent as well, and wondered why this was. He had seen the way Tharin had pranced about in the moonlight when Titania had gone into her first cycle, why was the male not as edgy now? As if reading his mind, the Gamma spoke up, hinting to the fact that Palaydrian was called for, and Zalen knew exactly by whom.

He turned to look at the girl’s reaction, and it was a mixed bag; it seemed as if the suggestion that she was Jiva’s mate did not completely sit well with her. But she recovered, and stated that she had not yet been claimed. A soft, knowing smile came over the Alpha’s face; she was trying hard to hide her affections for the Takekuro male, whether it be to save face in front of the two males, or to protect her lover from any ill that might come had they mated without Zalen’s permission. But Zalen knew already that the two of them would become mates, it was difficult to see any other outcome.

Rolling onto his back, Zalen stretched his arms above his head and then placed them behind his neck; he let out a content sigh, Believe me, had I not myself been claimed by the Alphess, I would fight hundreds of men for you. He sent a small smirk her way, But come now, we are not blind, Jiva has your heart, it is as plain as the day. He closed his eyes then, and felt the sun light warm his fur.

His tail thumped behind him as Palaydrian responded cheerfully to Zalen's teasing. He thought she was a beautiful wolf, if currently unfit for anything more than resting up. It was a shame that she'd gone into heat right now, though it did protect her from being taken without a mate, any wolf with half a brain clearly able to tell that mating with her would be useless. Told that she didn't have a mate surprised Tharin, sitting up. Truly? He thought she did.

Tharin hesitated at her words, considering. I would fight for your honor, if not fearful I would try and take it for myself. His tail swayed behind him, listening to Zalen. Jiva. The male that had gone and disappeared when he showed up to talk with Kiara. He still wasn't too sure what had caused that, simply wanting to be with his friend. He could have remained, instead of leaving in such a confusing manner. If you aren't mates, he'd best hurry before someone else realizes what a jewel he holds.

Heat was an unfair thing. While all else was in bloom, Palaydrian felt far from appealing in the springtime atmosphere. She wouldn’t throw herself a pity party though, she had never been one to focus on her looks or even think of herself as beautiful, but she knew she looked like a monster now, even if it was only temporary. It pained her see her pack mates wince when they looked at her, but she really couldn’t blame them. She had allowed herself to look in the water earlier and the sight caused her already marred face to screw up in dismay. She looked part raccoon from the bandit mask on her eye...but more akin to roadkill.

Drin’s moment of hurt embarrassment was dissuaded by Zalen and her pack brother’s comment. Though she knew his words along with Tharin’s were in jest and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, she still felt her heart flutter at the thought. It’s the heat... she reminded herself, hiding the grin that played on her lips as she too laid back in the sunshine with a small giggle, allowing her head to be propped up on her folded arms. Her tail beat the ground in a lazy wag, she was thankful for such flattering company.

Zalen’s accusation caused the giggling girl to cough, but soon erupt into more laughter at being called a jewel. The golden femme slapped the grass with a hand as if saying “no more” before she was able to speak up again. You two are too much! She cried, wiping a gleeful tear from her right eye. Tis true I have feelings for that red maned man...I suppose his courting hasn’t been so discreet, she said returning a smirk and a wink to Zalen. But I’m afraid he thinks I’m too fragile now...to even propose such an idea, she said with a sigh, realizing that she had been carrying that burden on her chest since the attack.

Tharin seemed to hold the same sentiment as he, and Zalen smiled as Palaydrian seemingly blossomed under the light of their compliments. Despite her injuries, when she smiled and laughed her beauty could not be denied, and her laughter was infectious. Finally, after their prodding, she admitted her love for Jiva, but instead of it being something positive, she twisted it to seem that, now because of her current state, he would no longer be perusing her.

The Alpha twisted up his face into a combination between a sneer and a confused expression, Nonsense, He said, flicking a handful of grass that he had been picking at away from him, If he can’t see past your temporary state, then he is a fool. Maybe I need to knock some sense into him… And his mind wandered back to the last time they had spoken, when Jiva was still in the midst of a love triangle between he, Palaydrian and the coyote girl.

Finding his humor again, Zalen looked back at her, Perhaps, he is just afraid to come ask me for your hand, And he grinned again, as well he should be. Zalen’s laughter filled the warm air once more.

out of character stuffs

A giggle slipped from Palaydrian's lips, Tharin's tail beating faster at the cheerful noise. She was such a bright friendly wolf. He couldn't imagine who would want to hurt her. If he did find who did it, Tharin would kill them. He was sure his alpha wouldn't question such actions. Not in the defense of a pack member. Even if Tharin was reprimanded for it Tharin would carry it, knowing that he'd helped protect his pack against such a beast.

Tharin laughed at Zalen's words. Asking the alpha for a mate is a fearsome business. Especially when he can knock you right over. Tharin hadn't felt the alpha's force, but he knew well enough to not push it. Zalen had become alpha for a reason, after all. Tharin was older now, no longer causing the trouble that he had when younger, challenging for dominance. He earned that now, instead of being a hot headed fool running for trouble.

The Siamese woman lay there conflicted. Now that her assumption was out in the air, she felt a little exposed or foolish. Was it silly to think such a thing? It was painfully obvious how Jiva felt about her...wasn’t it? Why would he spend so much time with her during her recovery if not for the love he felt for her? Now the seal-pointed girl was confused. Love me...or leave me... what would it be? She knew what she wanted, she’d practically told the two she wished Jiva would claim her as her own, and apparently that wasn’t too bold of a statement. But now her ears perked to hear Zalen crack up with laughter. Truly she had been wrong in her thinking. She allowed herself to laugh too, a tentative lilt as her alpha explained her theory was riddled with holes.

She listened to the light hearted banter between the handsome fellows. Hmm...I suppose you two are right, I didn’t realize what fiery hoops he’d have to jump through in order to win my hand, now her laugh was real and felt good coming from her stomach. Of course this was the reason. Though Zalen was approachable and a loving Alpha, it must be ridiculously nerve wracking to come to him, tail tucked between your legs, in order to ask the leader if you could breed with another. You wouldn’t deny him though....right? She asked as her giggles died down, trying to imagine what the bi colored man would look like proposing such an idea to the dark man. Hopefully what Tharin had said wasn’t true or at least it wouldn’t come to knocking Zalen over to get his wish. Jiva was strong, but in no way was the wolfdog a fighter. The thought alone made Drin giggle again. Poor soul.

But what of you Tharin? If I’m not so bold...I remember seeing you with Fayne the other night, surely you two are not just pack brother and sister? She asked lightly, curious as to see if those little sparks of flirtatious she believed she saw on the night Titania had bloomed were valid. Will a fine gentleman like yourself muster the courage to ask our alpha to claim a daughter of New Dawn sometime soon? For all she knew, Tharin could have already asked Zalen or she may have been completely off with ideas.

Credit goes to Haley for such a pretty table! <3.
