Profile or three writing examples:

Poised majestically on two, grotesque, dark paws, Sterling surveyed the vicinity. Every fiber of her being was holding its breath--every muscle tensed, every hair raised... Her volatile bi-pigmented gaze swept across the barren city with distrust, ever so weary of all the looming shadows. Her heart beat so loudly in her chest that it seemed to drown out all the sounds of the outside world, or there lack of. In what should have been the hum of early morning travelers and waking citizens was an all consuming silence. It bothered her immensely. Slowly she stepped forwards, ears swiveling at the sound of her scarred pads scraping the dry, blanched pavement. She exhaled, a billow of steam being emitted as her warm breath danced with the frigid air. "Maybe everyone's sleeping in..." she thought to herself, though it was more likely to have been abandoned. This wouldn't be the first deserted city she'd been to, but it was by far the smallest. Buildings were short and few, homes were large and sparsely set, and the forests seemed to lurk at every turn, threatening to overtake any building in its path. The trees were firs, so their rate of advance was far slower than that of many others. In the corner of her eye she saw a sapling ripping through the sidewalk concrete, but other than that all was as it had been depicted in earlier novels and photos. She felt as if she'd been warped back in time, before the extermination of people...

A rustle in the deep green brush brought her head sharply in its direction. A ghostly white rabbit sifted midst the fresh snow, baby pink nose twitching and spindly translucent whiskers quivering. It shuffled more than hopped, gnawing at some odd, unknown foliage that held a likeness to the common fern. Silently she dropped her leather satchel off her torso, stripping down and stuffing her belongings into the bag. Then came the transformation. Muscles tore from bone and one another, bone shuddered and lurched into place, muscular fibers binding back together, now more compact. Hair and long fur tumbled down onto the ground as she shed, new and much shorter fur taking its residence. In approximately 7 minutes she had returned to a quadruped form, hair soft as a pup's and as colorful as a common sparrow. Her striking eyes set back on the distant rabbit, who had moved a considerable amount of yards in the opposing direction, toward the wilderness. A soft snort was the only sound that emanated from her as she set forth at a brisk pace, paws devouring the old road at a rapid rate while she closed in. Her muscles rippled finely beneath her satin-like coat, maw agape and tongue lolling over her teeth. Slowly she immersed herself into the woods, pursuing the small rabbit from a far at first, and then once within sprinting distance, she moved in.

Blood, warm and tantalizing, melted the snow into liquid rubies. Sterling licked her muzzle, attempting to lessen the deep pink hue that clung to her fur. At her feet lay the source of the mess, the ivory hare that twitched periodically. It's eyes had long since dulled, death was almost immediate when her long, pointed teeth crushed down on its back, shattering its delicate bones and puncturing fragile organs. Securing it in her jaws, she turned and trotted back towards the empty town, flinching when the feet of the bunny lashed out at nothing, gradually fading until they just convulsed weakly every twenty yards or so. As she reached the edge of the foliage where the awry light of the forest gave into the complete illumination of the road's shoulder she noticed a figure standing over her belongings, then another at its side. Both appeared to be canines. She could feel her fur bristling and lips curling back. She retreated into the woods, hoping the smell of the rabbit eluded them. She hoped they'd be ignorant to her existence. However, her hopes were abruptly dashed when one looked in her direction, ears perking with vigilance. The other quickly noticed its companion and then turned in her direction as well. Simultaneously they sauntered towards her, and she stepped back, and back, and back. She tried to match their advance with her retreat, but she didn't want to take her eyes off them. A low rumbling growl echoed from her chest, a warning--a signal of distress. If they meant poorly, they'd continue their advance, if they were harmless they should halt. Surprisingly, they stopped dead in their tracks. She couldn't help but stop also. The distance between she and they could not have been more than 10 yards. Her eyes settled on them, both males, both in good shape, and both sporting dopey visages. She felt uneasy, and things continued to grow more odd. One began to wag its tail, the other impatiently shuffled its forelegs... (Wait. This is DEFINITELY over 200 words... so... G'night. It's freak'n 2 AM. xD)

Welcome to 'Souls!

Congratulations! You've been accepted into the craziest bunch of roleplayers on the vast Internet! We encourage you to keep checking out our information; you can find a wealth of it on the RP Guide. Don't feel pressured to read it all at once -- the guide is a huge resource and is meant to be used as a reference.

If You've Joined the Game As a...
  • ... Loner, do begin considering which of the packs you'd like to join. Survival as a Loner is less realistic -- wolves and other canines are generally social creatures, preferring to live in a pack structure!
  • ... IC pack joiner, you can now begin posting -- you may start your IC pack joining thread whenever you're ready. Make sure you check the pack information to see if the leadership requires anything extra from you!
  • ... OOC pack joiner, the leader still has to respond here before you can start roleplaying -- don't worry, though; if you're rejected from the pack you'll be titled as a Loner, and you're free to pursue other packs or the same one later.
Post-Joining Process
Mandatory:
  • Make an In Character post within five days. Post a thread request to get started, or consider starting or replying to an open thread.
  • Please let us know in the Absentee Thread if you plan to be absent for more than four days.
  • Keep reading! While there's only a minimum of three topics you have to read to join the game, we provide a wealth of information for a reason -- we expect players to read and reference this material often while they roleplay at 'Souls.
Preferred:
  • If you're leaving us, please try to let us know in the Player Updates forum. There is no penalty for leaving; you're free to re-join at any time later.
Still Need a Bit of Help?

Post any questions you may have in the Questions and Help forum. Check the FAQ first, though! The Mentors can assist you with writing, roleplaying, and understanding 'Souls concepts. Failing all else, contact a staff member.

If you need help getting adjusted to your pack, you should talk to your pack leader! They can help you to understand the pack's rank system and how to get a better rank, as well as direct you to plots, potential thread partners, and active members of the pack who may be interested in engaging you.
