Things had gone as smoothly as they could. There would be questions, but there would always be questions. Salvia had come to accept this as part of the political working of their newfound intelligence. Wolves in nature valued strength, not cunning, but here they had become different. Sirius was a fighter, and Salvia bore the scars to prove this, but it was his mind that was his true weapon. If he had not been so wickedly clever he would not have been able to pull together Salsola as it functioned. His role, as Salvia saw it, was to pull invisible strings in such a way that those around him did not even realize it was happening. She knew this and slowly, and with a great amount of self-loathing, had begun to realize she herself was a part of his schemes.

Today, though, there was no time for such thoughts. She was dealing with the issue of horses, and how their barn was hardly large enough to handle the influx. Many had taken to keeping their personal mounts close to home, and Salvia herself had debated doing the same. It would require an addition and the aid of the slaves, so with her authority she had commanded such a thing to be organized by Miqui and the slaves. The older man was happy to assist, and Salvia made a mental note to reward him in some way once the project was done. Satisfied he could have such a thing going, she had saddled up Nacht and taken him out.

The ride took her westward, towards the ocean. She knew this was not the true face of the sea, having seen it in Freetown, but the water was soothing none the less. Her mind raced, here and there, and the motion of the powerful animal under her eased the girl into an odd sort of meditation. Hot wind blew in from the west but he smelt, and sensed, the approaching storm. It was an undercurrent to the air, thick with rain, and she hoped dearly for it. It would give her time to retreat inside, to the bed she shared with her brother, to the instinctive comfort of her littermate.

A gull wheeled nosily above her head and she spared it a glance. Water splashed around her mount’s hooves, and he seemed genuinely excited by such a thing. Horses were still very strange to her; Salvia, like her father, did not romanticize them. Still, she sensed his enjoyment in the would-be telepathy shared by all animals, and allowed it to ease her doubts and worries into a dull hum deep within her chest.

It's been quite a long time since I've had a thread with you! I hope you don't mind me tossing Clover in here.

A month had passed since the blessing that had been the birth of two healthy sons fathered by the Thistle King himself. Much as during her pregnancy, most of Clover’s time was spent within Sirius’ chambers so that it was certain she was receiving the utmost care by the slaves and her daily living was that of luxury. As a child of Mother Earth, Clover had never really had eyes for these kinds of luxuries, but she couldn’t deny that she did not appreciate the king’s attentiveness to her and her sons. He did not love her as she did him, but it was easier for the Lykoi woman to will herself to believe it was so.

She had hardly left the Ruins since Lokr and Larkkin were born, but now that they were older, Clover figured she would permit herself for a quick venture to see Daisy. The mare had been kept in her stall for far too long, and Clover longed to find that smooth curve of her back and race through her love’s kingdom as they had before her frame had grown swollen with life. She allowed herself to push northward into the Borgata Tenzontli after she gathered the mare at the barn, but wouldn’t venture so far east to the garden as she usually would. Though she knew her children were in the care of the king’s slaves, Clover could not bring herself to travel such a distance from her boys. By staying relatively close, she knew Daisy could bring her back to the Ruins in no time at all if that was what she wanted.

The Lykoi woman let herself find the rhythm so most often shared with Daisy – a gentle brush of her fingers, a soft toss of her broad head all spoke volumes between the two. Mother Earth had blessed them with such an understanding of one another that it hardly mattered that their communication was limited to such means. Clover truly felt at peace when she was with the creamy white mare; an ease she couldn’t obtain in many other places.

Their journey along the coast was rather solitary, aside from a gull here or there. It wasn’t until hours had passed and into the afternoon that Clover finally found herself coming into view of another Family member. The women set upon the back of the onyx stallion was one she immediately recognized upon drawing closer. It was in fact the Family’s new Cicerone, the young woman who now led alongside Sirius – in Clover’s mind his queen of sorts, the one that she herself could never truly be to him.

"My lady," she called softly to the woman as Daisy brought her closer along the shore. Clover dipped her head, golden waves falling to obscure her features as she presented the woman with a respectful bow. Daisy tossed her head in a similar fashion, and slender fingers patted her broad neck in affection. "I sense some rain", she commented, before letting her pale gaze travel to the horizon.

(530) Well obviously I mind! See how much I wrote? Look at what you made me do. <3

When her mother had led at Sirius’ side, there had been a truer sense of her role as a Queen. Salvia was not like her mother; she was a warrior like her father before her. The gifts of strength, of speed, and of the lightning-fast thoughts that came with the high intelligence gifted to certain wild animals. She had perhaps gotten this from the remnants of her mother’s bloodline, where dog and coyote lingered, where instinct had been allowed to be replaced with the capacity and desire to learn.

One black tipped ear swiveled at the approach, and she turned her head to follow suit. A pale horse was approaching, one she recognized because it had not been bred. She made a note to correct this in the future and then allowed her gaze to trail up to the rider. The coyote woman—Clover—who had been graced with the right to bear trueborn sons to Sirius. Even if they were not officially bonded, it hardly seemed like one could call the woman anything less than Sirius’ mate. She was not his equal, but she was a pretty thing and one who had given him the coyote bloodline that she knew, distantly, drew them together.

Her entire understanding of her bloodline was centralized to those who were closest to her. Lykoi was a whisper, something she recognized as part of her, but she had never sought to embrace it. Therefore her bond to this fair-haired maiden was one based upon Salsola’s concepts and Salsola’s ideas. They were Family, but not one because of simple blood ties. The fact that Sirius saw value in her meant she was worth something, even if it was merely to be another jewel on his arm, another brood mare to produce things of worth. Her place was solidified by his approval. Clover was pretty—of this there was no doubt—and Salvia admired her in the same way she would admire a horse. They were both blonde, but where Salvia was all dead grass and sand; this woman was the deep and rich color of harvest-ready wheat, oak and walnut. It was a smart pairing, she decided, based on looks alone.

Her eyes watched the behavior of the pair, and felt Nacht shift below her to stick his head closer to the mare. He knew her by proximity and, despite his young age, most certainly had the desires and drives of a stallion. A firm hand kept him steady, for Salvia’s breeding plan did not involve him. He was too young to be of much use anyway. At the mention of rain, Salvia spared her own glance to the water. Gray clouds filled the sky, but further in the west they darkened a shade. Her black nose tested the air, taking in the scent of sea-water, fish, the close forest and beyond that, further across the salty air, fresh rain.

“As do I,” she replied, and let her gaze trail back to the pretty woman. “I suspect it will be here by nightfall.” There was a moment of pause. “How fair our young princes?” She asked, if only because she had nothing else to say.
