The sun was setting by the time Colibri stirred.

She was curled at the lake shore, laying on the bare ground hugging her knees to her chest. She had been there all afternoon, silently watching the sun's reflection over the shimmering lake surface. She did not want to move. It hurt. But she knew the oncoming night could bring more danger, and she had to get home, even if it meant facing the shameful reality of what had happened... and letting her packmates know. They had to know it was unsafe outside of their borders, lest one of them suffer the same fate she had. Her tears had dried, and she was too weary to cry again in front of them.

Suppressing a small whimper, she uncurled her body, wincing as the wound on her chest reopened. Her shoulder was encrusted with blood from where the cruel claws had scored into her, branding her. No one had ever taught Coli how to read, so she did not know what the letter meant, but it was easy to assume it had marked her as some sort of conquest. There were other cuts on her frail body where his claws had dug into her, as well as a myriad of bruises swollen beneath her fur, but she did her best to ignore them. She rose unsteadily to her feet, feeling a dizzying throb from the back of her skull. She hoped fervently that it was not a concussion, but she had been thrown to the ground so roughly, she could not be sure... Coli shuddered, hugging her arms tightly around her sides. She felt awful, battered all over. She had been lucky to have been left here so close to home, because she was in no shape to travel. She was also lucky that her assailant had not decided to kill her.

She waded into the lake, biting her lip as the cold water seeped into her fur. She had to get rid of his scent, the cloying musk that betrayed what he had done to her. She scrubbed at her arms and legs, wading deeper and deeper into the water until it reached her chest. It was frantic, the need to reject his presence, remove everything of him from her. She yelped as the water splashed on her open wound, rinsing away the dried blood from the inflamed area. Finally she limped back to the shore, wringing the dripping water from her mane. Being wet was better than reeking of copulation, and she could just tell them he threw her in the lake or something. She shivered at the memory of his soulless black eyes staring at her, and bared her teeth, snarling helplessly at the scene she was leaving behind. She would not be crossing the borders again for a long time, not until she could be sure he was not returning.

With faltering steps, a rather damp Colibri followed the lake shore back across the borders of Vinátta. She had been so close the entire time, and she was still not safe; it was her duty to warn others, and not hide the truth of what had happened. At least the gist of it, the full truth would be hers alone to bear. She reached the base of a looming pine tree, leaning heavily against it for support as she tipped her head back to howl. Her voice was feeble at first, but gained a little strength as she cried out for her sister Lilin. She needed her family.

''I really think we should carve our names into the bark,'' she suggested , patting the massive trunk standing tall amidst the Sacred Grove. Their symbolic interpretation of the fabled Yggdrasil was easily recognizable, dwarfing other trees by its sheer massiveness. ''Maybe a family tree of sorts.'' Mediterranean blue irises left the white walnut tree for an instant, searching for a hint of acquiescence in the Godja's pensive sterling orbs. Vinatta's priestess did not reply immediately, too engrossed in the horgr shrine she'd designed. Lilin took a moment to stare at it, not really understanding why the stones needed to be rearranged every five seconds - it always looked the same, regardless of the minor modifications being made.

Only the sound of leaves rustling in the wind dared interrupt Miskunn's train of thoughts - not even the Virding voiced her impatience, understanding the sanctity of her kin's actions. Both females shared a strong connection to the grove and its spirituality. It was out of respect for the Gods that she refrained from any additional comments, watching quietly as the pack's counselor repositioned parts of the altar. Neither women broke the quietude of the early evening - someone else did; obvious distress coming from beyond the woods. Dichotomous ears perked instinctively, fluttering lightly when Colibri's ascending melody evolved into a pained crescendo. Panic kicked into high gear then, manifesting with the quickening of her heartbeat and the immediate adrenaline coursing through her veins. Her body responded before her mind did- limbs carrying her through unbeaten trails, hopefully cutting down on the traveling distance separating the two Soul siblings. She did not wait for the Godja, confident Miskunn was only a short ways behind.

Thankfully, Colibri hadn't been too far away. Her frail body, soaked and pressed against a pine tree, appeared before Lilin shortly thereafter. The sight was horrifying and subconsciously, the Virding was thankful for the setting sun. Her sister's call had been hers to answer exclusively but as she neared the abused female, the gravity of her wounds became evident. There was nothing she could do about them. ''You're okay,'' she promised then, cradling the feeble form of her eldest sibling as they both sank to the ground. ''You're safe now.'' While Colibri was most likely trembling due to traumatic events and the dampness of her coat, Lilin's body shook with a mixture of ice cold fear and boiling anger. Her own call reached out to the rest of her pack mates, for the first time openly exploiting her authority. Miskunn's arrival was made manifest when the Godja's howl amplified and projected their command from the Grand Lake to the Commune.

Have a Bran and Niernan. :: 562 ::

Despite having had a day off from his duties as a budding scout Niernan had not had a moments rest. He had decided that morning that his house needed to be properly cleaned up and had set about sweeping, dusting and clearing immediately. He had found a small cupboard built into the wall of his bedroom area and spent a good hour exploring and cleaning it, finding it to be large and cool inside. He had finished working a half an hour ago and was now laying flat on his back atop his hill house. The grass was long and would need tending soon, but for now it was pleasant to lie in the long grass and stare at the branches stretching across the darkening sky.

Colibri's high howl made Niernan sit bolt upright, his hackles automatically raised at the note of pain in the howl, he would have leapt from his roof then but he heard the timbre of the song and knew it was for Lilin alone. Coli had every right to call for her sister and Nier nodded, though his unease didn't leave him. The earthen wolfs howl had been filled with pain and upset and Niernans protective nature struggled with not doing anything. The pad of a paw beside him distracted him momentarily, he glanced to his side and saw his brother's caramel body come into view over the verge of his roof. He nodded to Bran, giving him permission to join him on the grassed knoll. Bran's mahogany eyes flicked to Niernans cyan, "You heard the howl too?" He asked, already knowing that Nier had heard it, but just confirming that Nier wasn't running off to wherever he wasn't wanted. Niernan was nodding his reply when another howl split the quiet dusk, their Virdings howl carrying every note of authority it could, it was evident that it was a rallying howl and both boys responded.

The Stormbringer brothers exploded into action, both jumping from their grassy seats and rocketing towards the howl. They kept pace with each other as they picked their way through the village, both glancing at each other, eyes meeting briefly and both knowing that this was no time for jokes. They neared the source of the howl and slowed, trotting over to the group of three females. Niernans eyes quickly took in the situation and he was dismayed at what he saw. He offered a quick greeting to the Godja and his Virding, his attention clearly on the distraught and injured Colibri, "Miskunn, Lilin. How can we help?" He bowed his head respectfully, watching Bran do the same. He also noticed that his brother was wrinkling his nose and blinking rapidly, Nier had to think hard for a moment but then he remembered Brans strange tastes, smells and colours, he figured that his condition was doing something strange with the smell of blood, wet fur and fear that was rolling off of Colibri, and the dismay and anger coming from Lilin and Miskunn.

The dark furred male left his brother standing as he crouched, the look in his eyes had softened and his voice was quiet but still lined with iron, "What happened? What can we do to help?" It was clear in his voice that the person who had so harmed Coli would be facing some harm to themselves soon if the boys caught them.

<3333 A wild Honey appears. Also, I'm PPing Teme in this... because I can <33

His presence in his own pack had been non-existant in the past week and Saul didn't like it. He also didn't like the fact that he didn't have a solid reason for his absence. He hadn't seen his beloved Lilin in that time and his only company really had been his son. It had been one thing after another that had kept him away- Hermes had almost broken his leg fooling around trying to impress Grace's mare and he'd had to find some way of helping the poor horse. Life appeared to have thrown issues his way throughout the week and in reality he just wanted to forget it had all ever happen. He missed his bed and he missed his lover. Dusk was just settling over Vinátta as the grey male stumbled through his door. He was exhausted- his most recent issue had been a tree colliding with one of the outer-most houses in Jordheim and he'd spent his day shifting the great thing. He wanted to go to bed, he wanted to hunt Lilin down and relive that night of passion they'd thrown themselves in to a few weeks ago.

It appeared neither of these things would be happening, because the most mournful howl set his bones on edge, his belly flipping uncomfortably. The call was undoubtedly for Lilin, but he couldn't stay here. Colibri was family and part of his pack- it was his duty to find out. He also couldn't have stayed in his house even if he'd had a moment of bad conscience- he needed to know that she was okay. With a huff, Saul turned and launched himself out the door and away from Jordheim. He was midstride when Lilin's authoritative command rang clear, joined at once with the darker and more mysterious tones of their Godja. He paused just for a second, his satchel over his shoulders. The dark body, no longer as small as Saul would like to have believed, crashed into him and Saul stumbled forward before he caught his balance.

Glancing back, green eyes caught bright blue and he recognised his son immediately. A wan smile was sent his way, before both Stormbringers set off again. Bran and Niernan's scents were the easiest to recognise- they were so fresh coming out of Jordheim that Saul knew he was only moments behind them. He even caught a flash of tan tipped tail as the Stormbringers flocked to the aid of their sister and the command of their Virding. Saul and Temeraire arrived just moments before Niernan spoke, his voice hard edged but compassionate. Green eyes swung until he found Lilin's own and he knew his expression matched her. The sight of Colibri tucked into his belle's arms, dripping wet mad his stomach heave, anger and fear roiling for the top spot. He dropped to the ground, his knees hitting the floor without him feeling it. The last thing Coli needed right now was others towering over her and Saul moved forward slowly.

"Coli..." He whispered softly, keeping still and remaining where he was. Despite his wish to stroke her leg, offer her any kind of physical reassurance, his instincts told him not to. "Coli what happened to you? Are you hurt... injured?" His voice was soft and soothing, yet held a firmness about it that said he wasn't messing around with her. If she was injured, he needed to know how he could help her. He remained where he was, green eyes flashing so quickly between his belle's blues and the hunched, huddled form of his family that he didn't know where to look.

Andara had been fairly close to the lake when she'd heard the first call. She knew it was meant for Lilin, but the voice sounded so pained that the girl couldn't help but satisfy her curiosity. Four slim, thinly-muscled legs wove her through the underbrush, and she arrived to see Lilin already on the scene. The young hybrid stayed hidden from sight as she rested on her haunches, keeping trees and sand between her friend and the huddled shape. The fur was familiar, but Andy didn't think she'd met the chocolate woman yet. She bore only a small part of her tail, the girl noticed, and the scent of blood tickled Andy's nose; she was hurting.

It wasn't long before Lilin let out a call of her own. Andara hung back still, lingering in the cover of the trees while she watched. After all, what could she do? She didn't know how to dress a wound, though the captain had once told her that salt water could cleanse them. It still didn't seem too helpful, and the pack was sure to have a healer that could help her. Andy thought of Miskunn, and wondered if she was nearby.

As if she had known, the familiar voice of the Godja came shortly after, and Andy's small, dark ears pressed hard against her skull. This was more serious than she thought. Bright lilacs flickered as more arrived on the scene; one who looked very much like Lilin. Andara stared at him for a long moment before she rose and moved in. The worry was clear on her face, knowing only that if Lilin was upset, she should be, too. Her gaze followed the injured woman and rested on the Virding, questioning. Her silence was sustained; Andara did not know enough to ask any questions.

Fritz hadn't been part Vinátta long but he still felt welcomed and like he was responsible to them and with them and for them just like they were to him. He didn't really know anyone but when the howl came for a leader he supposed and then followed soon after for a call for others as well, he felt obligated to go and eager to help his packmates in any way he could. Yet he could hear the urgency and something akin to pain and sorrow in the first howl especially.

That spurned him onto get moving fast and he gave a quick farewell to his mate and headed to the scene. He would be back hopefully soon and would fill her in on what was going on, if he was allowed to do so. He didn't see why he shouldn't be able to but who knows what the call was about but he had a feeling that it wasn't something good. He didn't take any of his many weapons besides a pair of knives on a belt around his waist.

He arrived on the scene to both the leaders as well a few others but his eyes went to the woman that he assumed had given the call. He gave her a quick scan for injuries but besides that did little beside stand there alert for any trouble and waiting to hear what happened so he could act quickly to help accomplish whatever was needed. His body was a bit tense and ready to spring into action.

Colibri did not have to wait long before her sister arrived, wrapping her in a protective embrace as they sank to the ground. She would have resisted it if she had been of sound mind and body; she would have insisted she could stand on her own two legs, and she didn't need to be held like a child, but the truth right now was that she did. She just wanted to disappear, to melt into the ground and never be seen again. The sense of shame ran deep, amplified as she perceived Miskunn's arrival, heard the authoritative howl summoning others to bear witness to her fall from grace.

She cringed, burying her face into Lilin's thick fur so that she would not have to see the looks on their faces. This was supposed to be her fresh start, but now she was a victim once again, forced to bear the pity of her packmates for as long as they would be reminded of her weakness. Male voices filtered through to her then, and she shivered, trying to keep her teeth from chattering. They were speaking to her directly, and it took time for her numbed mind to actually recognize and comprehend what they wanted. "Niernan, Saul..." she murmured, peeling her muzzle away from Lilin's warmth -- her sister was shaking as well, she wondered disjointedly why. There were others assembling around her -- she swept her gaze, recognizing Bran and Temeraire, not recognizing the rusty red-orange youth or the towering black-and-white giant dwarfing the rest of the gathering. She licked her lips nervously, feeling her mouth go dry as she tried to find her voice and address them all.

"I... I w-was attacked... by a loner," Coli stammered faintly, with as much volume as she could muster. Lilin would probably have to repeat her words for the others to hear, but it was the best she could do. "By the shore of the lake, j-just outside the border... a black dog..." Her ears fell flat against her damp mane, grimacing. She had been so close to home. If she had the courage to howl for help, it might have gone down differently; but she had been too afraid to provoke him that way, to call his bluff. He might have killed her on the spot, instead of having his sick fun. She wondered now if that might have been preferable. "Pl... please be careful, everyone... I tried to warn him not to come back here, but he could still be in the area..." Her wavering voice had gained a little firmness, as she tried to impress upon the other Vináttans that they should not make the same mistake she had, traveling alone. Her sad blue eyes wandered from face to face, hoping they would not be broken the way she had been.

Turning to Saul, she bowed her head in defeat, whispering to him as she clutched Lilin's hand. "I was beaten... my head, it really hurts... m-my chest, he..." She gestured feebly toward the inflamed area, the bloody initial branded into her skin, swollen with bruises from where she had been hit. That was the worst of it, as best she could tell; she ached all over, her wrists particularly sore from those cruel claws pinning them down, as well as a more sensitive region she could not mention in front of everyone. She stubbornly wanted to clean and bandage everything herself, but that desire was quickly ebbing. She did not have the energy to take care of herself, so she would accept the help offered to her.

Azure and sterling clashed as concerned glances were exchanged, the Virding silently pleading for the Godja's help, wanting to alleviate their pack sister's pain and suffering. An unrealistic request, she knew. Miskunn's solemn expression spoke a thousand words: the Gods were not subservient to their followers, they could pray to Thor but doing so would not magically appease Colibri's injuries. The priestess stood next to the pine tree, keeping a comfortable distance between the victim and Lilin's protective embrace. Her right hand clutched the Frithr necklace around her neck, mouthing silent implorations. As the Stormbringer males flooded the scene, the Soulstorm heir felt her sibling's face press deeper into her coat. She understood why, knowing that she wouldn't have appreciated the whole pack surrounding her this way. "I had no choice," she murmured into Colibri's ear before burying her nose in her damp, chocolate mane.

The boys knew better than to approach too suddenly, knowing neither Soul sisters would take kindly to anyone infringing on their personal space. Saul inched forward slowly enough and with meticulousness in his eyes, he shared his intentions with the rest of the group. His green irises were already scanning the Hollr's frail body for less flagrant wounds. There was a brief moment of silence between his inquiry and Colibri's answer, during which she noticed Andara's presence and questioning gaze. Wise beyond her years, she thought fleetingly, noting the respectful behavior adopted by the youngster. Temeraire had reacted similarly and inwardly, the Virding felt an overwhelming sense of pride when looking at both of them. A large male, bearing a customary Frithr pendant, had also answered her call- a recent recruit, more than likely.

Colibri's explanation, hushed and spaced-out, finally found its way to her receivers. Dichotomous ears twitched lightly, hanging on to fading words and syllables as they tumbled out of her maw."A loner is responsible for this, be on the lookout for a black dog," she finally repeated, abbreviating the description for good measure. "For the next few days, I want everyone to stay near or within the packlands if possible. Keep an eye on the Aeska, including Andara," she began, gesturing to the the russet-colored hybrid standing next to Miskunn. Temporary guest or not, however smart she was, Lilin would not allow the same fate to befall her. "Border duties should be done in groups of two, just in case." Her gaze found the three bulkiest males; Bran, Niernan and Fritz. This would essentially be their job until they determined if the perimeter was safe again. "Any questions?" she continued, purposely speaking over Colibri's enumeration of her injuries. Those were for her beau's ears exclusively; she had been exposed enough.

Nier's a sap. Becca, do you wanna organise a Fritz/Nier patrol thread? :: 378 ::

Coli's quiet voice just about reached Niernan's tan rimmed ears and her words of being attacked made him almost physically recoil. Almost immediately he felt hot shame wash through him; he should have been there to protect her. The logical part of his brain screamed at him to stop being so stupid, these were packlands and the surrounding areas, they were supposed to be safe, he couldn't have known that anyone was going to be attacked. He shouldn't hold himself responsible, but in some ways he did. He tried not to let any of this show but he thought that Bran gave him a sympathetic look, he knew that he and his brother would talk about this later.

Lilins stronger voice reiterated the words that Colibri had spoken, shortening the descriptions and informing everyone of her edict, his cyan eyes flicked up for a moment, trying to meet his Virdings. He straightened up then, slowly rising to his foot-paws, aware that sudden movements might startle the fragile Coli. He nodded strongly as Lilin handed down the orders for the care of the Aeska and patrols of two. "I will head the border patrols, if you so wish my Virdings." He bowed his head slightly, eyes flicking from Lilin to Saul, hoping for approval of his offer. He was already running through pairings in his mind; he didn't know half of the pack and he didn't know if everyone who wanted to patrol would get along. His mind then wandered to Grace; there was no way she would sacrifice her 'alone time' so he would have to find a way to keep her safe while the threat was still present.

His eyes flicked to his brother, it was true that he worked well with Bran, they were unstoppable as a team, almost thinking as one, but then both of them needed to involve themselves with other members of the pack. He sighed and resolved to doing one or two patrols with Bran, the others he would have to share with different members. Cerulean orbs transferred their gaze to the black and white giant that stood not that far away, he was certainly imposing and looked the warrior type. He resolved to have a chat with him after the meeting had disbanded.

omnomnomnom saul's a naughty boy, patrollin' on his own lol

Their arrival, loud as it was, was probably not the best thing in such circumstances. It seemed to Saul that Colibri was wrapped up thoroughly in Lilin's embrace, the two tangling together with their backs to one of the older trees in the vicinity. He also understood that physical contact with anyone else but Lilin was probably going to do more harm than good- the desperate way to which the Soul female clung to her sister spoke volumes in keeping the others back. She was family, but she was fragile, breakable. There came, from Lilin's shoulder, movement from the chocolate female and Saul allowed green eyes to connect with fading blue as his own name was murmured softly alongside his cousins. A weak smile was given in return- he was here for her, in any way she wanted.

He didn't notice the arrival of others, but he knew there would be others eventually. If they didn't heed this call, there would be those who were present to inform those who had forsaken their Virdings call. Absently, Saul made a mental list to hunt down those who had failed to turn up, a black and white husky face flashing in his mind. Where was Ezra? His inner musings, and subsequent irritation, were silenced as the feather-quiet sounds of Colibri's voice came. Cinnamon backed ears flashed back as the message was relayed, a wordless whine escaping the leaders mouth. Her next words were taken with a bittersweet smile- despite her pitiful state, she was warning them to be careful.

Unable to voice his opinion for the moment, Saul was grateful that Lilin spoke up when she did. The ring of authority in her words was welcome and Saul felt his tail swish once back and forth before falling short once more. Her orders were fair and reasonable- he glanced back at Temeraire with a pointed look. His son ducked his head once, a jerking nod that told the Stormbringer his son understood the severity of the situation. His own question was asked at perhaps the same time as Lilin raised her voice and asked those assembled if they had any questions. Gratitude overwhelmed him for a moment- she was giving him the opportunity to ask Coli about her injuries in private.

His Hollr's answer was a little shocking, but under the circumstances he allowed a swift nod to acknowledge his understanding. Green eyes were livid as he gazed upon the marking on her chest, inflammed, oozing. With a sympathetic frown, he glanced back towards his son and instructed the boy to return to their house and retrieve his satchel. It was usually always stocked and he hoped he had everything he needed in there. Once his son had scrambled off, he looked back to Coli. I don't want to hurt you any more, but will you let me help? I need to clean the wound on your chest and give you something to reduce the inflammation. He spoke calmly, his voice a monotonous tone to soothe the fragile woman. Green eyes flickered up to his belle once before he fixed his attention on Coli.

[html]UGH IM SO SORRY I’ve ben non-existent on ‘Souls for a while. ;; But I’m here now, hurray!
(532)

After their initial meeting, Coli had a special place in Ezra’s heart. Despite her transgressions that were none of his business, he found it possible to forgive whatever pain she caused other creatures in the past because they were all here for a second chance. He liked her a lot, and had an overwhelming desire to protect her. She was small and scared, and in more ways than he’d like to admit she reminded the husky of the lovely silver memory he once had.

Her call and Lilin’s soon after raised the alarm in his brain. The hackles on the back of his neck stood up straight, he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Ezra told Eli to stay at their earthen home, and the massive beast galloped off in the direction of the calls. He was panicking; he could only imagine what could be waiting for him there. Ezra was out of breath by the time he reached the site where a few pack members had arrived. Ezra only arrived after Coli began to speak about what had happened to her. The words black dog rang in his mind like an overpowering bell. He didn’t even check in with Saul or Lilin that he was here, he headed back into the woods towards the borders in a flash. Tonight that dog would die, and Ezra would have pleasure in doing it himself.

His heart pounded as he flew over branches and stumps to find the perpetrator. This could showcase one of Ezra’s skills- hunting and catching prey. Ezra would find whatever bastard hurt Coli so horribly. The man went far past the borders, trying with every ounce of his body to follow the scent of the dog that smelled of rape and fear. His heart beat in his chest like a drum as he continued to sprint down the scent trail of the dog. Alas, after a while, the smell was too feeble to continue. The dog must have hidden it by walking into a stream or something. As he realized Ezra snarled furiously and let out a warning howl to the dog that he would be killed if he came close to the pack again. The husky was beyond mad that he let his friend down. Shamefully, he trotted back to the group where he knew he was needed.

Some time had passed. Ezra finally joined the group of his packmates, head bent down low, orange and blue eyes focused on the ground beneath Coli’s feet. “Saul, Lilin,” he said carefully, slowly.” I just ran the entire length of the bastard’s scent trail, but he has disappeared into the night. After some searching I think we will all be safe, tonight, for he is now long gone. I’m sorry I couldn't find him, Coli,” He said that last bit looking directly at his friend. “If he ever shows his face here again I’ll rip his throat out.” Ezra looked to his leaders for approval as he tried to lower the hackles on his back and the snarl that wouldn’t go away. He was too slow. He failed his friend.

OOC: Fritz is being bad and going to search for Toby on his own >.> Since he thinks that this is the same person as that attacked Selene and such.

IC: There was only one other person that came after him and Fritz was still the tallest and bulkiest canine there. He couldn’t hear what the injured woman said since he was keeping his distance from her out of respect and the fact that they didn't know each other. So he turned his eyes to look at their female leader, whom he knew by sight but had never met officially.

Liln spoke about how a loner attacked his packmate and that it was a black dog and something in his mind went back to who had raped Selene and that he was a black dog. Was this the same male as the one that had attacked his mate but then apologized? He didn’t know but he gave a soft growl at if so, the male had lied. But he wouldn't say anything until later, after the meeting and he had talked to Selene.

The leaders then said that they where to patrol in pairs and to keep back the weaker members away from the borders. There were several members that turned their gaze to him as that was mentioned and he gave them a nod of agreement. "I would be willing to not only perform sweeps of the borders with others but if someone feels the need to be escorted, then they only need to ask for my assistance in where they wish to go." He would not let another member get hurt if he could help it.

wheeee, awkward andara!

Word Count → ---

An overwhelming sense of urgency had swept over the lake shore. Andara didn't even know most of these canines, but they just kept coming, so eager to defend their kin. She watched quietly, awestruck but useless. The whole pack was here, what more could she do?

Lilac eyes watched the shaking and sobbing as Colibri spoke to Lilin. She couldn't hear what was said, but moments later, Lilin turned to address them all. As it turned out, a black dog was responsible. A loner. Like me, she realized, suddenly terrified of that unclaimed land. It had been her home only weeks ago; if Lilin hadn't found her, would it have been her sobbing and shaking, or even dead from the attack? Her gut wrenched at the thought, instinctively missing her protector.

But Lilin must have anticipated her response. She spoke Andara's name to the pack, urging them to keep her safe as well. Andy wasn't an Aeska-- whatever that was-- but she had somehow earned the same protection. Her small ears pressed against her slim skull as she fell back in dismay, scrawny tail tucked. The Ethiopian wasn't used to having help, and it almost shamed her to receive it. She hadn't gotten herself killed yet, had she? Still, if there were such bad dogs running around, she would at least need to learn to better protect herself.

Brooding silently over the whole matter, Andara just kept watching in a daze. The size of Lilin's family amazed her already, and this wasn't even all of them. The young girl was determined hold onto this one for as long as she could.
