the silent shadow

set in ethereal eclipse! ^^

It was a favorite haunt of his, the forests of Ethereal Eclipse. Different were they than the woods of the north - thicker, denser, with larger trees that blotted out the sun and left a thin but pleasant green glow on the forest floor. It was also better for concealing him - although he stood out sharply against a light, sunny field, in the dark forests, he blended perfectly into the shadows.

Paws barely touched the ground as he shifted his weight from haunch to haunch to shoulder to shoulder - each step carefully calculated, constricted pupils slitted in concentration and focused on a single mouse. To the observer, the mouse was camouflaged - its brown coat against brown nettles and leaves made it seem a leaf itself. But to Element's heightened sense of smell and hearing, he could tell the small creature apart from the foliage easily.

Upon nearing the mouse close enough downwind, he wiggled his haunches slightly, bunching them up - and pounced, a clean swoop from his spot right into the creature in question. As he neatly killed it with a blow to the neck, he began to eat. A perfect stalk was perfected over time, he thought as he tucked into his meal, and his was almost perfect. Silent, unseen, not scented until the last moments; his prey hardly ever knew what had hit them.

Eclipse was working out her thoughts, strange as they were, muddled with the happenings of her own life and yet she was still a single minded wolf. She lived to please herself and yet she was also empathetic to those around her so when she got Robert out of his house she could see the effect she had on the man that tended to hide in the shadows. She had no idea why he did but that was up to him to tell her his problems and though she was pushy she did not try to push too hard especially with her own past. Then that night with Moss, that was a night that was pretty hard to think about as it brought her into a life of sexual maturity but just seeing his sad face when she did regret it made her feel even worse for him. Then her friend Frodo kept coming to mind, she had met him three times and she enjoyed his company so much, yet he was from a different pack all together. This was all why she was out of her home today, and why she was wandering the forest again. She didnt’ mind it and just to have a nice brisk many hour walk was fine with her. She was capable of taking care of herself and her gait showed it. Her bow was slung over her shoulder with care and she doubted she would need it. She was not out hunting today, just trying to clear her mind of how she reflected other wolves and their lives, which was to her... far too philosophical to the woman.

She stopped though, smelling a faint scent of blood and her ears perked up but did not sense anyone nearby. It was so faint so it must be a small cut or it was old blood. Then she saw the black creature thing, it had moved but when it stopped it blended right in with the brush it sat in... was it a ghost? Her heart pounded in her chest and her bow was in her hand already knocked, but not pulled back to be shot. She didn’t know what it was.

“Who’s that, who’s there?”

Her voice showed no panic or fear, even though deep down she felt fear, but she would not panic. Her eyes skimmed the area in wait for the shadow that had moved only seconds ago.

Element cleaned off his meal nicely, leaving only skeletal remains of the mouse. He then dug a small hole, burying the skeleton neatly - he did not want to leave a mess, after all. Feeling the grit and blood of the mouse on his maw, he twitched an ear and licked his paw, drawing it over his face. Seeing the blood on his paw - and licking it off - he repeated this again and again until his face was as clean as it had been before he ate. Glad of that, he began to lick his chest, making his way across his entire body with the barbed tongue.

He was jolted out of his grooming session, however, when a sharp barking sound sounded from nearby. He flattened his ears and narrowed his eyes to mere slits; the barking sounds were guttural, almost threatening. It was then that he realized that they formed words in the language of the canines - much different from his own musical language, but recognizable all the same.

He stood, looking at where the noise had come from - behind the trees and the shadows, there was an erect figure; it looked like a human, but he knew it was a Luperci. He sniffed, sitting back down. "I am here," he said simply, bringing a paw up to lick it once more.

WC: 236 OOC: OMG I SHALL CRY BECAUSE I FORGOT ABOUT THIS THREAD ; ;

Her heart almost leaped when she saw it was a cat... a... small cat. She had only met the cougar when she was a pup, which was as tal as Ovidiu was to her now, so this tiny creature... what happened, did he not get the food he needed? He seemed indifferent to her and she stared at the black creature warily. She swallowed once or twice before gaining her composure for real and let the bow and arrow down.

“Uh... aren’t you suppose to be... you know, bigger?”

She asked quizically, maybe he was a dwarf cat of sorts or something? How could a creature as small as he survive out on his own, but the scent of blood did come from where he was... and he looked quite simply... satisfied rather than in pain, so he hunted? What could he hunt that he was big enough to kill? The woman’s curiousity got the best of her, but she stayed quiet, not sure of how to take him in. The cougar teased her as though she was prey and Ovidiu seemed to want to be her friend, tried the wolf ways but he was … well a huge orange and black animal that walked on four legs, he would tower over her if she went even into her Secui form. So she had more composure compared to this small creature.

It was a peculiar thing, seeing the woman so frightened of him, if only for a little bit. The small feline as not feared by many - even the prey that he stalked did not know of him until their very death. The ebony feline then cocked his head when she said that he was supposed to be.. larger?

"I find myself just the right size," he sniffed, sitting down and curling his tail around his paws. He wasn't sure what the female had meant - perhaps, he thought, that she had never seen a domestic cat before, and only had seen the mountain lions and enormous bobcats and wildcats that populated the area. They looked like him, true, but different too - it was easy to differentiate between a wildcat and Element, who descended from the cats owned by humans many lifetimes ago.

Either way... Element, as himself, was just the right size for him. If he was only a bit bigger, the mice and squirrels he ate would not satisfy him, but he would be too small still to hunt large game like deer and moose, and he might not be able to hide as well in small places and dark shadows. Any smaller, and he would possibly be able to be hurt by his very prey. No, he found himself to be exactly the right size for his purposes.

WC: 177 OOC: so sorry it's short!!

She blinked a little at his words and then blushed profusely, the color showing straight through her fur as she looked down abashed, perhaps he was suppose to be that size and she was just stupid. Trying to make up for her comment she made to clear her throat and spoke; “Oh, ok, um My name is Eclipse Soulstorm. I am sorry if I bothered you.” She said

She tried desperately to find something to say that might bring them onto... well something, but he was so strange, his tail was fluffy but it did not wag in the stiff way a wolf might but as though it was some kind of snake. She snapped out of it and looked at the feline; “So, do you live around here?” was all the girl could come up with and she felt like the stupidest wolf ever. If Robert could see her now he would be laughing and thinking of him laughing at her made her want to figure this animal out even more.

"Not at all," the dark feline spoke in reply to her wondering if she had bothered him. His meal had filled his belly up, and now he felt warm, comfortable, and slightly sleepy - the company that the strange wolf provided was welcome to him, at least at this moment.

She seemed to almost blush then, the skin underneath her fur almost glowing. She seemed slightly embarrassed, although she had said something insulting, or offensive - Element, however, saw nothing wrong with an inquisitive mind, even if she had not experienced smaller, domestic cats such as himself. Seeming to wish to change the subject rather than dwell on the question before, she asked if he lived around the area they were in.

He pondered. "No, I don't live here in the forest," he said. "I live in Halifax - the library, to be precise." He thought back on his library home with adoration - although he did not claim the entire library to be his, he still lived there. Sometimes sleeping in the nooks made by a pile of books, sometimes sleeping on top of shelves, sometimes curling up by the window to get sun and warmth - the library was perfect for the ebony feline, and he loved living there.

"And you?" he asked. "Do you live around here?" He idly wondered if he had accidentally trespassed without knowing it.
