Kiara couldn't stand waiting. Her son was somewhere out in the wide world, alive and far from safe. Kohaku was with Amy, and the possible tortures she was putting him through haunted Kiara's nightmares. She could see his beautiful body stretched out beneath her in a pool of blood, his wondrous puppy blue eyes faded and lifeless. Kiara had become restless at night, and it took all of her energy and brain power just to keep her daughter happy.

Lucia wasn't stupid, Kiara was sure of that. The young mother knew that Lucia was aware that something was troubling the pack, but she just hoped that her daughter didn't know what. It was the scarred mother's deepest wish that Lucia would remain in the dark. She was so young, and didn't need to understand the ugly side of life. Lucia was the only thing keeping her mother grounded, but Kiara's patience had run thin.

Cicada's called out loudly into the night. Their long mournful cries echoed in Kiara's heart as she walked through the field towards the boarder. The moon shone brightly above, illuminating Kiara's path and making her alabaster form look spectral in the dim light. Bright sapphire eyes glowed as she walked with a hunter's grace. Kiara had left her sleeping daughter next to Tharin in their corner of the pack den. Leaving ND to search for Kohaku was stupid and she knew it. However, it was torturous to simply wait and do nothing.

OOC Hope you don't mind me hopping in WC:: 435

The hulking form of Augustus was a common sight along the borders of New Dawn. Day and night, he kept a constant vigil, leaving periodically only to eat, hunt or to sleep. His pack had to be fed in order to stay strong, and he hunted what ever prey he could, as often as he could afford. Some days Ciara came with him, and often she would take his place when he grew weary. Today was no different. He paced the border while his mate slept in the den. This meant that they did not often sleep together anymore, but it was a small price to pay for their pack’s safety. His golden girl had forced the issue of her confinement, and freed herself from his often dominating influence. It’s not as if he meant to undermine her own authority as the sole other Epsilon, it was only the fact that all these attacks had occurred so close to home, and only the women. He did not want to stoke the rage within him that bubbled so close to the surface. No doubt an attack on Ciara would unhinge him. His brothers and sisters did not need to see him lose himself, like he nearly had before, with Terra.

Augustus’s yellow irises glanced up at the moon, so clear and bright, and without another thought lifted his head to the sky. His voice soared towards the heavens in a long and clear cry of defiance. This land was his home and he sang a song foretelling of death and destruction. He would not hesitate to carry out his duty, for attacking his pack, was like attacking he, himself.

When the night swallowed the last note he gazed with satisfaction on the lands beyond. There was no scent, no sound of any villians about, at least, not here. He picked up his head and moved on. It wasn’t until some moments later when he caught the mother’s scent. He picked up his tail and kept his ears erect, the scent he immediately recognized, although he’d never spoken to the woman before. She was the one named Kiara, and if what Tharin said was true, she was a true wolf, like himself. Intrigued, his stance was relaxed, dominant, but relaxed. So often he carried an edge of tension in his movements, his pelt always a moments notice away from bristling with anger at the fluctuation of his tempestuous moods. It is late to be out here alone, Sister. he called to her when he spotted the glow of her sapphire eyes. For once his words were soft.

It wasn't that Kiara wanted to neglect Lucia. Even as she walked alone in the fields, the young mother's mind drifted to her daughter. She didn't want Lucia to think she had been abandoned. But Kiara couldn't abandon Kohaku. He was with Amy, and who knows what atrocities the dog had put him through.

The white wolf moved as silently as she could, trying not to attract any attention. Her head was low and her senses alert. The approach of a unfamiliar pack member came as no surprise to Kiara. His relaxed dominance was met with immediate submission. Kiara flattened her ears, pressing them tight against her head as her tail sought refuged between her legs. The snowy female lowered her body, her belly fur almost scraping the ground. However, there was an obvious note of hostility in her actions. Black lips pulled back into a snarl as a low growl rumbled in her throat.

Kiara knew that she would be stopped from leaving, she was sure of it. Going after Amy was stupid, but she couldn't sit back and do nothing. She wouldn't be on the sidelines while someone else rescued HER puppy. "There is nothing to worry about brother." Even as she spoke, Kiara took steps closer to the boarder. Her eyes never left the other, but she tried to slowly creep past him in the hopes that she could go on without too much trouble.

OOC I feel...so bad for Kiara, but..Bros before hoes. WC:: 236

Augustus had thought to be kind to the grieving mother, but her snarl and accompanying growls made his fur immediately bristle. His lips pulled back to reveal his fangs and a vicious snarl escaped him. He arched his tail high over his back and stepped deliberately into her path, his movements stiff. His yellow eyes sought hers and he kept himself before her, a bulwark of muscle guarding the path. No there isn't. He affirmed, still blocking her. because I'm here, sister. It was all too obvious what she was trying. He'd been at the meeting, and he'd met Tharin at the borders, bloodied, broken, and with the other pup in tow. He would not have another of his brothers and sisters harmed. It was why he and his mate had been adamant, standing fast in their protection of their pack. No one would pass them, no one would be leaving again.

Did you see Tharin? He growled, tail lashing. He'd cleaned his tawny brother's wounds, and seen his pain. The brute had a soft spot for his northern brothers, Shandom, and Tharin, both were as good as blood to him, and Tharin had himself ensnared in the white woman's web. You did that to him, as much as that bitch. He blamed her as much as the dog for Tharin's heroics. She could have spared herself from his wrath if she'd not been so foolish.

Her old injuries throbbed, burning with heat in the memory of her attacks. Kiara knew how cruel Amy could be, she had been at the knife edge of the dog's wrath more than once. The scars that littered her body, carefully carved or done swiftly by the luperci. It was obvious to anyone that looked at Kiara that she had suffered greatly. The arctic female's innocence was gone, replaced by a ferocious love for those around her. Therefore, Kiara could not, would not let anyone else suffer because of her. She would solve the problem herself. Zalen's warning and Lucia had been enough to keep her quite for a while, but no longer would she sit back and watch from the sidelines.

Kiara had been right in suspecting that she would be stopped. Kiara went quickly through the list of names in her head, trying to match descriptions given to her with the male before her. The marks on his face were a dead give away, Augustus the Epsilon. Growling to him was a mistake, but she wouldn't be stopped, she couldn't be stopped.

The much larger male stepped directly into the tiny white wolf's path. His fur bristled and his lips were peeled back to reveal his own set of fangs. His tail arched high into the air as his golden eyes met her own sapphire orbs. Kiara lowered herself further till her belly was almost touching the ground, but her growls never stopped. She twisted, trying to inch her way past Augustus while still facing him. "Please step out of my way brother."

The mention of Tharin got Kiara's attention. She stopped moving, blue eyes piercing the other as he spat out hateful words. Kiara snapped. "Your wrong!" Her own tail flew out, not high, but tense and angry as the hairs on her body stood erect. White ears pressed further into her skull as her anger boiled. In an instant, Kaira turned, trying to make a dash for the boarder.

OOC Teehee, and omg! I'm so sorry for him he is such an ass. All that pent up sexual frustration, it does things to a man, lol WC:: 417

One hundred forty-five pounds of trained muscle rose above her like a wall. He didn't care how piercing his words were, how deeply they bit the woman, all he cared for the the protection of New Dawn. And he wanted someone to vent his frustrations. The man was short-spoken, gruff, and deeply reserved when it came to any other emotion besides anger, or irritation. He could express himself no other way. The mother did not deserve his scrutiny. She did only what every mother was trained to do, what her instincts forced her to do. But all that mattered was the brother who'd suffered at her expense, of his need to protect Kiara, to recover what she'd lost. Tharin had not been entirely unsuccessful, a feat Augustus was in awe of. He'd recovered one pup, but even she had escaped. It had all been in vain, a worthless attempt, suicidal at best. Tharin was useless, more liability than assest, and once again Ciara, and Augustus were resigned to duty.

Was he not deserving of a rest now and again? The entire pack was on edge, preparing themselves for the worst, the inevitability of it all. And he and Ciara, their sole guardians, prowled the borders day and night, with hardly enough time to feed themselves, to feed the pack. Forget love, forget affection. They'd not even consumated their mateship and Ciara's maiden's innocence was growing tiresome, but there was no time. New Dawn was at war.

The behemoth's muscles were bulging, and often burned with the strain of prowling back and forth for such long hours. He was angry and endlessly annoyed, more so now, than ever. The woman lowered her belly to the ground, but her growls were a constant. Augustus would not have it. He would not yield to her pathetic protests. The muscles in his leg twitched and his tail gave a lash. No. He hissed, standing firm. His eyes glared into hers. She snapped and he bellowed in protest. He lowered his muzzle a breath's width from her face, fangs glistening like pale daggers in the moonlight.

She retorted a denial and Augustus snapped at her, thrashing his head to the side. Am I? he said venomously, turning his muzzle into her ear. Much to his surprise the woman leapt up and darted away faster than he could cath her. His teeth sounded a sharp clip as they met nothing but air and with a snarl he wheeled on her and gave chase.

As a natural born wolf, Kiara knew exactly what her punishment would be if she couldn't get past Augustus. She would be bitten, pushed into the ground, and forced to submit to the higher ranking wolf. That was the natural punishment, and once Kiara was used too. Rarely did such punishments ever end in true injury, and although shameful, they were necessary to maintain order. Kiara was breaking that order, but she had too.

The young mother's desperate attempts to sneak past the Epsilon were useless. He stood before her like an immovable wall, preventing her from leaving the pack. His angered words bit into Kiara, blaming her for Tharin's injuries. When the arctic female snapped, she was met with almost immediate retribution. His mouth wrapped around hers, threatening to bite down with his powerful fangs. Kiara froze, waiting for the blow that never came. Blue eyes blazed, daring him to push her, daring him to bite.

Augustus towered over Kiara as he asserted his authority, muscles bulged and showed off the full force of his weight. The male was nearly twice Kiara's size and outweighed her by over sixty pounds. However, where he had strength, Kiara had speed and agility. She was able to quickly turn, making towards the boarders farther away. With a burst of adrenaline, the snow wolf shot forward, legs pounding against the earth as she spirited towards the neutral lands.

On a good day, Kiara could run quickly and for long periods of time, but the sleepless nights had taken their toll. Her head felt heavy, her thoughts were clouded. It wasn't long before she was tripping over simple bumps and obstacles. A single stick in the ground caused Kiara to go down on her front knee and it became a struggle for her to get up quick enough to regain her lead. Precious moments were lost as the young mother scrambled to stand, her front paw bleeding slightly from scraping against the stick.

He'd intended to be kind to the mother, understanding, but a woman's mind was a whirlwind of irrational thoughts, many of which he'd never understand. He'd never know the joys of motherhood, never give life to whelps of his own. That was not his job, not his role in life. He was a male wolf, young, and strong. He was meant only to plant the seed, and live to watch it grow. It was not he his future whelps would look to for comfort, it was not he they'd share their tears with, but the woman who shared his love. He would teach them the more practical things of life, hunting, and fighting. How to survive on their own, what it means to be pack. These emotions that this woman was feeling, did nothing but aggravate him.

The woman made a wild dash, and by the time it took him to turn towards her she'd already gone a few yards. With a snarl he spurred his legs into motion, bounding after her, tail floating behind him like a banner as his paws pounded the ground. She was much faster than him with her lithe body, and he was fortunate that she was so weary, or might never have caught her. Couldn't she see that he was trying to protect her? Tough love was still love, and as abrasive as the man's mannerisms were what he did he did only for pack. For their safety, their wellbeing. Kiara was pack now, and had been for a while. Duty compelled him.

He lengthened his strides and soon enough he was gaining on her. She stumbled often over the smallest obstacles and Augustus quickly found himself at her heels. He snapped at them, and finally when she went down he was right there to prevent her from reaching her paws again. He placed his paws on all sides of her small frame and slowly bore his weight down upon her. His jaws snapped and gained purchase on her scruff which he grasped firmly, giving a rough shake. Muffled as it was a vicious snarl erupted from his muzzle. He held his tail high, and ears erect. Releasing her scruff he lowered his muzzle to her ear once again. Stay down, sister, and this will be easier on us both. His voice was low and dangerous. He kept her pinned, yellow eyes watching for any sign of struggle. You're not getting up, not until you abandon this suicidal mission of yours, he grabbed her scruff, giving it one more shake before he snarled at her. do you understand!?

The young mother ran as fast as she could, trying her best to outrun Augustus. Kiara's stumbling caused her precious moments, and each fumble brought the male closer and closer to her. It wasn't long before he was nipping at her heels. Even as she fell, Kiara cursed herself for her weakness. She had to get up, to run and find her son. She had to do something.

In an instant he was on top of her, growling and using his larger body to his advantage. Kiara felt like a pup again, being berated for stepping out of line. She saw her father, growling as he taught her the hard lessons. However, she wasn't a puppy and she had to go rescue her son. Kiara began to struggle as she tried to free herself from the oppressive weight of the larger wolf. A ferocious growl came from Kiara, the malice and anger behind her voice surprised even herself. Powerful jaws wrapped around the scruff of her neck and Kiara yelped as the roughly shook her. It didn't really hurt, but the action was jarring enough.

The vicious shake made Kiara freeze, and her scruff was released. Augustus growled an order into her ears, but Kiara wasn't ready to give up. She continued to fight, growls erupting from her maw as she struggled underneath him. Another sharp command came, followed by another grab and shake. At last, the fight inside the mother died. She held still on the ground, growling and angry. Kiara stayed like that for a few minutes, until at last the fire became extinguished and she fell silent.

She had failed in her attempt to leave the pack. She had failed to protect her son. On top of that, she had actually growled at her own packmate. This wasn't like her, Kiara knew better. Sad eyes turned to look at Augusts, knowing that he probably did not enjoy having to discipline a pack mate. Kaira's ears were pressed hard against her head, her tail tucked under her body. Whining, she turned to lick Augustus on the muzzle as an apology. Slowly, the arctic flipped over so that her soft, scarred underbelly was visible to him as she continued to apologize with licks and submissive whines.

OOC Sorry for the wait! WC::383

Augustus did not let her free he bore his weight down upon her, and when she growled viciously at him he answered with a steely snip of his jaws close to her face. His yellow eyes glanced sideways, boring into hers with a feral intensity. Stop moving, he warned, his voice low and deadly. He didn't want to discipline her any more than he already had, but the way she refused to submit might just force him. Luckily, he didn't have to as he gripped her scruff a second time the woman finally lay still beneath him. He didn't remove himself from her, not until several moments later when he was certain that she would try nothing more.

He was surprised by the audacity of the woman, her unrelenting desire to right her wrongs, to save the son the blonde woman had taken from her, regardless of the consequences. It was inspiring, this resolve, but it made him no less angry. He would not face such disrespect least of all from a non-luperci like himself. He stood looming above her until her blue orbs regarded him mournfully and she lapped at his chin in wolfish apology. He stiffened, pelt fully in bristle with his hackles raised, and let loose a growl. She wasn't forgiven, not yet. He shifted his paws as she rolled and when her scarred underside was facing towards him did he finally step away. His tail was raised and a single fang peeked out from his lips, glinting in the moonlight. He prodded her belly with his muzzle, scars contorted on his face in a soundless and fangless snarl.

When her submission was complete he allowed himself to relax, though his heart still pounded in his chest his eyes softened. He was moved by the hopelessness he found in her eyes. It surprised him when a pang of empathy stabbed at his heart. At least now there was no doubt anymore that he had one. A low whine passed from his lips and he licked the top of her head. The carress of his tongue was rough, but it was meant to be reassuring. Walk with me, sister. The night is not safe. He said in a hoarse whisper, intending to accompany her further into the territory of their home.

The young mother had once thought herself as wise and strong. She was an adult, with pups of her own and could be counted as a contributing member of her pack. Kiara wasn't a pup or even a yearling, yet Augustus made the snowy female feel as if she was young and immature. It was a suffocating feeling that only added to the crushing weight of her burdens. Her son was gone, her daughter without a father, and the date of her first shift was imminent. To have Augustus stand over her and scold her like a child was a horrendous feeling and made Kiara feel as if the world was crumbling inwards. It was enough to drive any wolf insane. Yet, somehow, it had a sobering effect on the scarred female.

Kiara's entire body was tense as she moved into a more submissive position. The dominant wolf had every right to be vicious towards her and she was at the mercy of his whims. Growls followed in pursuit of Kiara's submissive whines and Augustus's fur bristled. It was only when Kiara turned her soft belly upwards that he stepped off of her. Kiara continued her submission, whining and licking him every chance she got. Her tail was tucked firmly between her legs as she worked on making herself as small as possible. The male's scarred muzzle touched Kaira belly and she held her breath as he snarled at her. However, rather than strike, the bi-colored male relaxed.

It wasn't until Augustus whined and licked Kiara's head that she released her breath. Kiara exhaled long and slow, letting all the tension in her body ease as Augustus forgave her insubordination. The male's rough caressing reassured Kiara, and she touched her nose to his cheek.

As soon as the order was given, Kiara flipped over and stood. She shook herself gently and gave a soft woof to show her compliance. To keep herself in the Epsilon's good graces, Kiara kept her head, ears, and tail as low as she felt. She wanted to show that there would be no more outburst from her, and frankly, Kiara just didn't have the energy left to fight.

His movements were deliberately slow and his body remained tensed. He would be prepared if she tried anything else. She seemed compliant, however and woofed her agreement. He was careful as he tread further into their territory. He'd been scouting before he found her, and would not let his guard down now. He kept himself ahead of her, often looking at his surrioundings with a scrutinizing yellow gaze. His tail was high behind his back, ears pricked foremost on his head. He paused a moment, marking some brush before continuing. It pleased him that his scent was one of the more prominant on the border-- perhaps a little too much.

The behemoth had been traveling the borders long hours, working his endurance and muscles. His eyes were tired, but he never faltered. He needed to hunt, and he glanced over to the mother following behind. His scarred muzzle lifted skyward and he let loose a howl to assure his pack that all was well, and he was there in the shadows, ensuring their safety. The woman was a little too subdued. As quick to resolution as he was to anger he turned to her and nuzzled into her scruff. There was still tension in his body, but she had been forgiven.

Are you hungry, sister? The hour was late but it mattered little to a wolf. They could find some sleeping creature and make easy prey. The both of them could use a reprieve. With all the excitement in the pack the grizzled hunter had little time to secure a proper meal for his brothers and sisters. He hoped in vain that it might server to take her mind off her missing son.

It's fine. Kiara needs a hard ass on her right now. PP if you need.

With her scolding finally over, the arctic wolf followed compliantly after the higher ranking male. They moved towards the heart of New Dawn. Augustus was escorting her back. The realization made Kiara's ears drop further and her head droop as she moved. She had failed on all levels, as a mother, friend, pack member, and subordinate. There was no excuse for her behavior. When Augustus paused to mark a bush, Kiara waited patiently for him to finish. His scent was prominent on the boarder, making the lines strong.

The question of food came up, causing Kiara's ears to prick and her head to raise slightly. There was no way she would turn down an offer for food and hunting. She would have had to been crazy. The snowy female's tail twitched slightly in a half-hearted wag as she thought about prey. It wasn't enough to take her mind off Kohaku completely, but it was a welcome distraction. Kiara nodded her head and let a soft smile ease across her lips. "What did you have in mind?"

Augustus had been kind enough to offer a second chance, giving the promise of hunting and food as a way to resolve the tension between the two wolves. The action was endearing and Kiara began to see the behemoth in a new light. They hadn't really interacted much with one another and August, so the opportunity to prove herself was welcome.

OOC Blah post >.< WC:

The male wasn't quite so unapproachable once given the chance. He was a traditionalist, and clung to his old beliefs strictly. He was loathe to part with them and often misunderstandings would spring up, especially when exposed to humanoid practices, and beliefs. He resented many of the more civilized members in his pack. Weapons, clothing, even the strange containers some carried. None of it sat well with him. His current company was much easier. He had a soft spot for non-shifters like himself. They, more often than not, could understand his struggles with the humanoid life style, and were more likely to adhere to his own code. The code of the wild. His tail swayed along with hers and his belly rumbled. Charcoal ears twitched and he shrugged his shoulders as much as was wolfishly possible. I'd eat anything at this point... Admitted the scarred Epsilon. Deer or elk would be delicious, but the chances of actually catching any at this hour with just the two of them were slim to none. He hadn't the energy it took to chase one down.

He lowered his muzzle to the ground, scenting. He caught a whiff of rabbit, but snorted it out. Ugh, he was sick of rabbit, and the pests were so damn fast. Yellow orbs glowed ferally when they caught the light of the moon above. Curiously he asked the mother, Do you have any ideas...? I'm sick of rabbit. Maybe she'd have another type of prey in mind, but as he 'd said before he'd eat anything, even if it was rabbit...Though he wouldn't enjoy it much. Nor would it fill his belly. The one time when his large body put him at a disadvantage. He needed more food to sustain himself, and a rabbit, especially shared with another pack mate was only enough to take the edge off. He was tired and he was hungry, but mostly tired. Sooner or later he'd wear himself out. It was only a matter of time.
