WC:: 443 -02.08.2012 mid morning, optime form. Happy Nier. 5pts +3

Yesterday had been a good day for Niernan; Saul had approached him and pulled him aside, informing him that he had been promoted to his desired rank of Vald. Nier had beamed uncontrollably for the rest of the day. This morning, when he had woken he had felt slightly different, he thought that he stood a little straighter and he felt pride swell in his chest. He had worked hard for his rank and he knew that he would continue to do so, happy to be protecting his pack in the best way he could. But today he decided he needed to rest; his back ached from the work he had helped with on the laying the foundations for the village hall, and his paws were a little weary after his constant patrolling.

With his mind set on a relaxing day he pottered about his house, gathering the things he would need to just chill out. He unhooked his leather bag from its place on the back of his only chair and plucked his journal and a couple of sticks of charcoal from his splintered table, placing them carefully in his bag. He called to Ciaran, the cat still in the bedroom, "I thought I might head over to the garden, you wanna come with me?" The only answer he got was a thump as the cat jumped down from the bed. The dark tabby jumped up onto the table beside Niernan and gave him a feline smile, butting against Niers hand-paw affectionately.

The pair set off for the garden, neither of them having really been there, but both knowing that it was there and was mainly the domain of Saul and Colibri. As such not many pack members found their way to the garden so he thought that it might be a nice, peaceful place to sit, rest and maybe draw a little. He had been neglecting his journal recently and thought that he should carry on his sketches. It didn't take them long to reach the plot, it was far more than he expected, plants that he didn't know growing in ordered lines. It was obviously well tended and much loved, he thought that might be down to Coli's efforts, seeing as their fearless leader had been so busy lately. He found a comfy patch of grass nearby and settled himself down, pulling his journal and a stick of charcoal from his bag he flipped to a clean page, starting to sketch the nearest plant. He would ask Coli or Saul what it was later so he could name it. He happily sketched away, losing himself in the skritch of charcoal on paper.

The routine was comforting. Colibri poured more and more time into tending to the plants of Vinátta, both the communal herb garden she had started with Saul's assistance, as well as the sentimental flowers she had collected to decorate the hill surrounding her Jordheim house. Gardening had a calming effect on her, as it had throughout her life; whenever stress and anxiety threatened to break her fragile psyche down, she found herself retreating to the safety of the soil and leaves she loved so dearly. Summer was in full swing, which meant an added responsibility: water. She could not rely on rain these months, not when the heat could wilt vegetation so quickly, and crumble the loam into dry dust. While her packmates were off constructing buildings, patrolling the borders, or hunting prey, Coli was dutifully traveling from the lake to the garden with a wineskin bottle, intent on preserving the herbs and wildflowers she was cultivating.

Focusing on her admittedly trivial duties had a secondary effect -- it kept her hidden away from the unfamiliar faces, all of the new scents tracing through the village and the surrounding forest. Try as she might to overcome it, Coli was still shy and introverted at heart, and if she did not have to mingle with newcomers and introduce herself, she probably wouldn't. Eclipse's feast had been a pleasant interlude, but now she was happier to toil by herself than try to keep up appearances. She would rather her packmates forget about the traumatic assault she had endured weeks ago, cast aside their pity and perhaps forget she even lived here. Secretly, she felt very ill, and had stubbornly avoided seeing anyone about it for fear they would pity her even more.

This morning she was already carrying her water bottle, shuffling through Jordheim on her way to the herb garden. The sun was still pale and low in the sky, not yet radiating the warmth of summer she had grown accustomed to. It was tranquil at this time of day, the calm not yet broken by the howls of wolves at their border or the hustle and bustle of daily life. If she walked at a slow enough pace, the dizziness did not overtake her, so she carefully measured her lagging footsteps. She had so little energy these days, but the exhaustion did not make sense; her wounds had all closed and healed long ago, and nothing else was visibly wrong with her. And so she struggled to hide it, ashamed of her ever-present weakness and afraid she would become a useless burden to her pack if the malady progressed further. Even this short walk left her breathless and wanting to curl up in the grass to nap.

She was so lost in thought that at first she did not notice there was a figure present at the herb garden already. It was the sound of scratching that caught her attention; it reminded her of the wild mice scratching in her walls, the little scurrying noises she listened to when she could not sleep at night. Coli turned, relieved to see that it was a familiar face -- Niernan, huddled over some sort of parchment with a stick of charcoal. She held the wineskin bottle closer to her chest, unsure if she should interrupt him or come back later. It seemed like he might be writing a letter, something she knew nothing about other than what Eclipse had told her. Her ears perked forward, and she edged a few steps closer, trying to peer over his shoulder to see what he was doing.

WC:: 518 - Derpy cat!! 5 pts

The sketch was coming along quickly and he only had to look up every minute or so to refresh the details in his mind, it was on one of those quick raising of his eyes that he spotted Colibri, a wine skin clutched in her hand-paws as she wandered through the garden. He didn't want to say anything and frighten her, so he continued to sketch, letting her believe he was oblivious to her presence. He smiled slightly as the earthen hued woman crept closer, the wineskin now held against her chest as if it could protect her, or if it was something that needed protection. She seemed to be peering over his shoulder, or trying to considering she was still some distance away, and he assisted her by angling his journal ever so slightly. He didn't move the book so obviously, but shifted it just slightly, allowing her a better view of the page on which he was drawing the plant, he wasn't sure if his sketch would live up to the real life thing before him, but he was trying his best to capture the fluffiness of the leaves.

He glanced up again to look at the plant, assessing if the leaves needed to be more fuzzy or if he'd already overdone it, when his cyan orbs fell on Ciaran. The cat was rolling in the dirt, his long forelegs stretched out and paws gently fondling the spray of purple flowers that sprung from a vivid green stem, also sporting spiked leaves. He looked to be worshipping the flower, his mouth wide open and his face seemingly in an expression of rapture. Nier frowned in confusion and abandoned his sketch, placing the journal on the ground, the pages still open. He looked up at Coli then, "Hello Colibri. It's nice to see you again." He gave her a genuine smile, more than happy to spend time with the quiet, plant loving woman, and absolutely ecstatic to see her out and about after the traumatic events that had befallen her. He stood as gently as he could, not wanting to startle the other wolf at all. He smiled at her again and bowed his head slightly, "Excuse me for a moment, I think I should check on Ciaran." He said, his Irish tones light on the words, a chuckle lacing his voice.

He padded over to his friend, stepping around the budding plants with care. He looked down at the cat, hand-paws on hips and tail wagging slightly. The cat was now playing with his own tail and mewling like a kitten, the goofy, rapturous expression still fixed on his face. Niernan laughed aloud, the noise not having the slightest effect on the cat. He bent slightly to sniff the plant and his nose was assaulted with a musty, minty scent. He sneezed once as the scent invaded his nostrils, it didn't seem to have any effect on him, other than the sneeze, but the plant appeared to be intoxicating to his cat. He turned and caught Coli's gaze, "What plant is this?" He asked, pointing to the flower.

ooc: drugged kitty, lolol~ Deja vu post!
WC: 502

Colibri valued Niernan's friendship greatly, as she felt closest to the original Vináttan founders, and shied away from their newer packmates. But she realized she had not spoken to Nier directly in some time, since he had busied himself with scouting and patrolling, as well as romping with his brother and little Teme. It wasn't really fair to him. She just found it intimidating to face the two Stormbringer brothers together, since they towered over her with their booming voices, always so physical with the wrestling and roughhousing... It was much easier to face Nier like this, peacefully sitting before the garden. And of course she liked Ciaran the cat, fascinated as she was by his intelligence and handsome looks. She spent more time with Ciaran at the feast than she had any of her wolf packmates. It did not take her long to locate the feline today, finding him rolling about amid the garden. She would hold off on watering the plants, then, wouldn't want to get that thick fur all muddy.

Niernan set his parchment to one side then and greeted her, and she smiled, pleased to see he was in a friendly mood and not at all bothered by her presence. He had been so serious the night she was attacked... it had been a bit frightening to see so many angry faces, and she was secretly glad that everyone seemed to be forgetting about what happened to her. She couldn't, but it was better if her packmates could. "Good morning, Niernan, it's nice to see you and Ciaran... You didn't tell me you were an artist," she pointed out as her eyes fell to the charcoal sketch, a hushed awe in her tone. "That's amazing...!" Colibri could not read, write, or draw, and it impressed her to see those skilled in such an esoteric talent. Niernan continued to surprise her with his varied talents. He stood, moving into the garden to check on his companion while Coli remained, gazing at his handiwork.

"Oh, that's a catnip!" she stated proudly, pleased that he had noticed the rare plant. She had traded with Amy Sunders to receive it, and the successful transaction proved she had been useful to her pack after all. "It's a useful herb from the mint family, it can be crushed into a wound to heal it faster, it can be boiled into a tea that settles stomachs and calms nerves, it can... erm..." she trailed off as she noticed how odd Ciaran was behaving, playing with his own tail and smiling in a vacant, dazed sort of way. "I... I never knew where the name came from. I thought it was like cattail reeds, or cat's whiskers flowers..." she said awkwardly, setting down the wineskin of water in case her assistance might be needed. The cat seemed to be enjoying himself, but she honestly didn't know if it could be bad for him. All she knew about cats was what Niernan had already taught her.

WC:: 387 - Apologies for the wait dear. 3pts

Coli's quiet voice drifted to the dark Stormbringer, her tentative tones bringing a genuinely affectionate smile to his face, he could feel his eyes soften. Colibri had this effect on him, she was like a lullaby, completely soothing to be around. There were times when he thought Bran should spend more time around the quiet wolf, maybe he would learn a lesson in relaxation and keeping his mouth shut, but then Nier would remember Coli's skittish take on life and he would kick himself for even thinking of torturing the poor woman with Brans presence.

Nier turned and watched as Coli gazed at his drawing with wide eyed appreciation, he chuckled and rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. She complimented his work and his first feeling was utter disbelief, his modesty over-riding his pride, before he recalled Coli's quiet honesty. He blushed furiously under his fur, "Oh, it's nothing really. I sort of just taught myself by doodling." Nobody other than Ciaran had ever seen his artwork before, he hadn't even shown Bran, too embarrassed to reveal his talent in case they mocked him for it. It was sort of a relief for someone else to know now, and to compliment it.

Coli answered his question swiftly, pride in her voice as she listed its name and properties. Nier was impressed with her plant knowledge and pleased that they had such a useful plant in the gardens. He was sure Saul would appreciate the addition of the medicinal plant, but maybe not quite in the way that Ciaran was appreciating it. Coli's words faltered as she noticed the strange way Ciaran was acting, she seemed to have pieced two and two together and now looked worried. She put her wineskin down and looked so terribly anxious about Ciarans state that Niernan had to laugh. He didn't mean to and he didn't want to offend his friend, but her genuine kindness brought him so much joy that he couldn't contain it. "Oh, Coli. Don't you worry about that heap of fur, I think he's just high. From what I can tell Catnip has the same effect on cats as most drugs or alcohol has on us. It's pretty funny actually." He chuckled, watching the cat who was now dribbling quite a bit while trying to eat his tail.

Niernan was actually embarrassed, modestly downplaying his talent. He certainly didn't strike her as shy, especially compared to her, but it was charming to see he was actually insecure about something. "It really is wonderful," she added encouragingly. "Flowers only last a season at the longest, but with this, you could keep them with you forever. I envy that." Her gaze lingered on the charcoal sketch, imagining the contour lines and simple strokes as a full color image. Winter would be so much more bearable with these paper flowers to decorate the indoors, reminding her of seasons past. Perhaps she would ask him to draw some of her favorite flowers so that she could hang them on her bare walls... but then again, without windows, her home was too dark for displaying artwork. Still, she envied his talent; it was not something she had any aptitude for. She would have to content herself with her knowledge of the local flora, something Nier didn't seem to mind listening to.

As Coli voiced her concern, Nier laughed, his sudden mirth making her jump. He reassured her that he wasn't worried about his companion, just amused by the predicament. She quickly smoothed her fur down, pondering the insight he gave her. Drugs she knew very little about (wasn't that something Ezra had mentioned to her recently?), but she had a brief brush with alcohol several summers ago. It was her turn to be embarrassed. Coli blushed beneath her pale-furred cheeks when she recalled the effects a bottle of wine had drawn out in her -- not only had she become far more talkative, unable to keep any secret at all, but it had roused a strange stirring in her that led to her first kiss that night. Hopefully Ciaran wasn't in that sort of mood, because she didn't know of any other cats in the area for him to seek out. "So it's like he's drunk?" she asked slowly, edging closer into the garden to peek at the drooling feline. "Should we... move him away from the plant, or will he snap out of it...?" The cat certainly did seem happy, less aloof than he had appeared previously. The corner of her mouth twitched, teasing out a lopsided smile. "He doesn't look very dignified now... Nier, you should sketch him like this." Blue eyes peeked back at the taller Stormbringer, eager to see what he thought of the playful idea.

WC:: 442, 3 pts - I can't get 'Soft Kitty' out of my head after writing this XD

Nier sent Coli a soft smile, trying and failing to dismiss her compliments on his artwork. He really was very proud of his talent, but he was unused to people talking about it. Her words on the seasonality of plants went straight to his head and a thought started to form; he knew Coli spent most of her time in the garden, she adored her plants and she liked his artwork. He knew that the one he had been working on was only a charcoal sketch and lacked the beauty that colour could give, he also knew that Grace had been working on some new colour dyes. He thought he could beg some dyes and inks off of his lady love and maybe sketch and ink up some pretty flower sketches for Coli, maybe it would help her to continue smiling. He wouldn't tell her of his plan, not wanting to get her hopes up as Grace might not be willing to part with her inks, but he stored the idea away safely before turning back to his cat.

Nier nodded at Coli's slow sentence, "I suppose so." He said, just as slowly. He glanced at her as she edged closer, her shy personality shining through her actions, he hummed as she asked about whether they should move Ciaran or not, he honestly had no idea about what to do. This was the first time he and Ciaran had encountered the plant, he had also not found any information about it in the limited books on cats he had read. Another glance over at Coli, to see if she had any ideas about what to do he saw a sideways smile, almost a smirk, an expression that looked foreign on the earthen hued womans muzzle. Nier eyed her warily, slightly scared for a moment before she aired her devious idea. The black and tan wolf chuckled devilishly and nodded, "Brilliant idea Coli." He quietly moved over to retrieve his journal and charcoal, stooping to pick them up and then returning to her side, flicking over to a new page.

His fingers held the charcoal with an expert grip, the brittle, burnt wood balanced neatly between his index finger and thumb, his grip not strong enough to snap the twig, but not light enough that it slopped around. The sketch formed quickly, the basic shape of Ciarans curved body taking form on the page, the details fleshing out the picture a little more, his hands moving swiftly and precisely over the page. He tilted the page towards Colibri, raising his eyebrows as he revealed the sketch, a sideways smile slipping onto his muzzle as well.

SOFT KITTY, WARM KITTY, LITTLE BALL OF FUR~ this is a short post but I am unrepentant! >D
WC: 334

Coli hovered near the garden as Niernan returned for his sketches and writing utensil, seeming pleased with her suggestion. She hadn't meant to put him out or anything, but he was more than willing to draw, so she didn't say anything -- merely watched with fascination as he indulged his talent.

Coli watched his skillful fingers grasp the stick of charcoal, twitching and pulling with expert ease as they mimicked the curves of the cat's sprawling form. Blue eyes peered with bright curiosity as the page was tilted toward her, and she caught her breath, smiling in wonder. "That looks just like him! The, the furry tail, and whiskers, and... wow, that looks really great," she said lamely, unable to articulate her praise as eloquently as she wanted to. "You've gotta keep that to remind him later, how silly he was." Shyly she glanced back to Ciaran, watching the indolent cat drooling on his tail, and sank into a crouch to pet him. She hoped he wouldn't mind, but in his drugged state, he seemed like he might not even notice she was there.

As always, the garden helped her relax. It was Colibri's element, the place that brought her peace and helped clear her thoughts. As she stroked the tom's fur, an observation occurred to her, and she decided to voice it. "Nier, you... seem to be in really high spirits today," she commented, and it was true -- Niernan had always been a friendly and kindhearted presence around the pack, but it seemed amplified now somehow. He had an almost giddy quality to cheerfulness, something she had only seen previously when he was playing with his brother. Now, it was something within him that made him beam so, and Coli found herself wondering what could have unlocked such joy in the Stormbringer male. She glanced over her shoulder at the tall wolf, wanting to ask him but unsure if she should -- what was new in his life? Had something happened recently?

WC:: 394. 3 pts - Short post too. So sorry for the wait. We can finish this up soon if ya want?

Nier smiled as Coli verbally appreciated his work, he nodded and chuckled as she mentioned keeping the sketch to show Ciaran later. His chuckle turned into a mischievous giggle, thinking of all the ways he could use this sketch. "Oh, I'm definitely keeping this one, I'm not letting him live this one down." His grin softened to an affectionate smile as Coli knelt down and smoothed the cats fur. Ciaran seemed to feel the touch and oriented himself towards it, bumping against Coli's handpaw to get more of the attention.

It seemed that the earthen hued wolf had gained some confidence around him and had noticed his high mood. He flipped the book in his hands shut, hiding the charcoal sketch away from the world for the time being, before tucking the book into one of his large pockets. The stick of charcoal that he had left in his hands was played with, his surprisingly delicate fingers flipping it over, twirling the burnt wood. Cyan eyes flicked over to look into her bright blues, his smile brightening. He felt his tail begin to wag slowly as he reviewed the reasons why he was feeling so good, "Things are going great for me here Coli. I'm with my family, I've got a purpose, I just got promoted." He paused and grinned broadly, his mind flicking to the last reason for why he was so happy, his eyes misting slightly as he thought of his golden woman, He rubbed his hair and flicked his eyes away from Coli's for a moment, a little blush filling his cheeks, "I found myself a girl too. Me and Grace are making a go of it." He admitted, he had no qualms about telling Coli all of this, to him she was family and that meant he was open and honest with her.

Ciaran mewled happily as Coli smoothed him, staggering to his paws to get closer to the female wolf, bumping his body against her legs, wrapping his long fluffy tail around anything it came into contact with. Niernan nodded at the cat, "He likes you Coli." He didn't know what effect his words would have on the woman, but he thought she needed to know this. "Ever since we met Ciaran's had a soft spot for you." He shot her a genuine smile, watching how she and the cat interacted.

Ah, we can close this up and focus on our other one. Wink You can post an ending, or just archive it, whichever you please!

WC: 328

Ciaran rose to his paws and rubbed against her, curling his fluffy tail about her legs. At first she wasn't sure what he was doing, but it was obviously affectionate and she soon giggled at the ticklish sensation of his long fur entwining with her own. She glanced up to see Niernan's smile, and his surprising words. She blinked owlishly, looking back down at the cat. Ciaran liked her? "I didn't think I left much of an impression," she admitted, tilting her head curiously as she scratched beneath his chin. "I guess you liked when I fed you at the feast, huh?" she cooed to him, happily stroking his cheeks. She had never had any sort of pet or companion, but she had to admit she liked Ciaran. He was very pretty and soft.

Niernan mentioned he was a higher rank than her now. Rank meant little to Coli since she saw herself as the bottom tier regardless, but it was wonderful that Nier was getting recognition for all his efforts. He deserved it. "Congratulations on the promotion," she said quickly, though she noticed he looked distracted already. She waited patiently for the rest of the news, ears perking forward curiously as Nier acted embarrassed again, as sheepish as he'd been about his artwork. He glanced away for a moment, running his hand through his mane before divulging the real reason he was so giddy today. He had a girl...!

"Ooh, lucky Grace," she said with a grin. "Hope she keeps you in line! You'll have to introduce me sometime..." As always she felt a twinge of jealousy that her packmates were pairing off with each other and she was still alone, but it wasn't like she saw Niernan in a romantic way. She genuinely wished him the best of luck, and hoped this Grace was a good match. Maybe someday Coli would find a girl, too. Or a cat. It might be easier to get a cat.

WC:: 368 - Finished! I'll archive this.

Nier smiled with affection as Ciaran curled himself around Coli as much as he could, the drug like catnip seemingly removing his inhibitions, allowing the cat to show his affection for the earthen hued wolf. Nier chuckled disbelievingly as Coli expressed her surprise at being one of Ciarans favourites, in his mind the cats affection for her was obvious, but then he knew Ciaran very well. Her comment about feeding him at the feast made Niernan laugh, he nodded as he spoke, "Yeah, that's one way to earn his affections, but I think he made his mind up about you way before the feast. He has good taste." His eyes softened as he looked at her, his affection for the quiet Vinattan shining through in his expression and eyes.

It was easy to talk to Coli, she was so quiet, polite and considerate, the polar opposite of his Grace. She congratulated him on his promotion and his fortune in getting a girl, he blushed again, humbled by her kind words. "Aw, thanks Coli. I think you'd like her...." He paused then, trying to imagine the lively, sarcastic and colourful Grace in a situation with the quiet, timid and easily startled Colibri. He cocked his head to one side, the mental image just not fitting, "Well, it would be eventful anyhow." He said. He shrugged his shoulders and smiled at the smaller wolf again.

Thinking of Grace he recalled a promise that he had made, pertaining to checking on the bookshelf he had made to ensure that it wasn't about to fall down. He slipped his charcoal stick back into his pocket and crouched down next to his cat and his friend. "It's been wonderful to see you again Colibri, I think I better take this lump of fluff and sober him up." He chuckled as he scooped the cat up into his arms, Ciaran nuzzling against his wolf friends face. The cat and wolf lifted a paw each to wave goodbye to the brown wolfess as Nier walked away. "See ya again soon Coli." As he walked away he resolved to get onto drawing those plant sketches for her, wanting to give her a present.
