Puppies Pic! Dated the 3rd. Try #2

Hotaru was ready. There was no question about it. The blind female had been pregnant for over sixty days and just wanted to be done with the whole thing. Her back, ankles, and certain female glands ached like crazy. On top of that, she was incredibly moody and hated not being in control of herself. Hotaru sat on her bed, resting quietly as she closed her eyes. Having them closed didn't really make any difference, but the action made her feel a little better.

Without any warning she felt it. A sharp pain that flowed through her body. Brown eyes snapped open as her hands flew to her belly. Hotaru winced, forcing herself not to many any sounds. Carefully, the very pregnant female moved away from her bed. She didn't want to lie down just yet. Her entire body felt restless, almost itchy as if some instinct drove her to move.

With that in mind, the grey female paced relentlessly. Hotaru's ears flattened against her head and she shuddered as another contraction hit her. The wave of pain came with a bout of nausea and the female had barely enough time to stick her head out of the window before she vomited. The noisy sounds of heaving brought Fawkes into the room. He flew on noisy wings and landed on the backboard of Hotaru's bed. The red-tailed hawk was quickly followed by Kelia, who took her place at the other end of the bed frame. Fawkes chirped at her in low speech, questing his master as to what was happening. Hotaru said nothing, just shook her head at the birds and continued pacing.

For several hours the three were locked away silently in the room. Kelia preened her feathers occasionally and showed mild interest in the strange behavior of her master, while Fawkes tried to coax Hotaru into telling him what was wrong. Occasionally, the blind female could hear Fawkes chide Kelia for being so relaxed and uncaring. Those tiny, halfhearted arguments made the wolf smile. As time wore on, the females contractions became stronger and closer together. Every time she felt sick, Hotaru had to almost run to her window.

After almost ten hours of complete silence from Hotaru, occasional bouts of nausea, and her almost constant pacing; Fawkes couldn't take it any longer. Frustrated, he flew out of the window, calling the pack trying to get some help for his master. For once, Kelia didn't follow him. Instead she stayed on Hotaru's bed making some sympathetic and worried noises.

At last, Hotaru couldn't take it any more. She carefully lowered herself onto the pile of furs in the corner of her room and waited for her contractions to really start.

I just think we should talk about it, is all, the Turkish man muttered, his blue eyes settling on the cat balanced on his windowsill. The white tom peered at him, flicking his fluffy tail in a dismissive and vaguely annoying gesture, and went back to staring outside.

There's nothing to talk about.

Levent felt his lips wrinkle back, although he almost never snarled at his friend. The points of his fangs gleaming in the dim light of the stone house, he pointedly reached over and grabbed an old stuffed toy that was worse for wear. The faded fox's single eye stared back at him, and he tossed it at the window. It landed amongst other toys, soft plushes and harder ones for teething, and something's squeaker wheezed at the bottom of the pile.

Wilson turned on him, fur bristling and ears snapping back. Play Daddy all you want, he hissed. Just bloody well let me stay out of it -- end of discussion. He suddenly unsheathed his claws and jerked his head back out the open window. I'm going to kill that INFERNAL bird.

You big pussy, the brown-furred man growled. It was a remark that might've gotten a laugh out of the tom at any other time, but there was only a lower growl from Wils as he stalked over to the window. Peering out, he noticed the hawk that always accompanied Hotaru - - and when he heard what Fawkes was going on about, he yelped. Immediately, he went scrambling for his things, grabbing an old canteen of water and one of the musty old blankets he'd salvaged from a human home, finding nothing else immediately useful. He then sprinted out out of the house, with Wilson glaring hatefully at his back until the door swung shut.

Levent called up to Fawkes in low speech, letting him know that everything would be fine -- or he hoped, prayed, wished desperately. He then saw the large and rather terrifying matriarch of the Wolfe-Denahlii family at the door to the blind woman's house, and a couple of options flew to his mind. He chose the suicidal one, trying to inch past the pregnant woman (what the hell was she doing in her condition? did she think she'd be useful?) while explaining hurriedly that he was the father and that he was going to go inside whether he got bitten or not.

Hotaru! The male froze once he'd gotten inside, staring at the grey woman on her nest of furs. The panic enveloping him almost made him back out of the house or collapse or something else useless, but he swallowed and tried to control the tremor in his voice. I have water, and a blanket, he said slowly, before glancing over his shoulder at the patched arctic woman who no doubt wanted to kill him right now. And Jace is here.

He snuck closer, unsure of what the father was supposed to do in these situations, and at last settled on placing the goods on the floor, letting them brush her hand so she knew where they were. He then knelt behind her, taking a deep breath. Just let me know how I can help, he whispered, more in control, as his hands went to her shoulders and back to massage her. It was the one thing he was good at that could possibly help, and he hoped it could soothe her a little for this part of the labor.

(581) Sorry for the powerplay and Lev barging in, just wanted to keep things moving quickly. <333 [Also hooray for Bria and cached threads!]

Dalgina had been outside, sketching a squirrel that was currently yelling at her. Tehu had been in the middle of a hunt, when Fawkes' presence caught his attention. Rapidly the kestrel flew up to the bird he idolized, chirping at him and asking what was up. Dalgina glanced up, wondering what was happening as well. Hearing that Taru was giving birth, Dalgina grinned widely and leaped up. She didn't think, simply running as quickly as she could to her friend's house.

She didn't give Levent more than a passing glance as she moved in, unaware of the fact that pregnant wolves could be dangerous. Taru! The puppies are coming? Her tail wagged excitedly, moving around the room. Finding herself a corner Dalgina settled down, watching for what she was sure was going to be amazing. It looked like she was in a lot of pain. The black female frowned, looking to the others to see if this was normal. Was it supposed to be like this?

Long post is long. First puppy is white.

The pregnant female sat alone on her bed of pelts. Pain rocked her body as yet another wave of contractions hit her, several times more powerful that before. The time for the first puppy was approaching quickly. Hotaru closed her eyes and clenched the soft fur into her dexterous paw as she panted. For once, the darkness was soothing. It made her feel safe and the added quiet of being almost completely alone only increased her sense of security. At least she could give birth in peace. Or not.

The sound of shuffling feet could be heard heard in the hallway as an intruder broke through the wolf's peace. She could hear Kelia shuffling before flying off to see who the intruder was. Hotaru didn't move, but one ear was straining towards her open bedroom door. All intruders, even pack members, were dangerous. Some instinct told the grey wolf it was best to be alone and have no intrusions.

It seemed as if Levent had a knack for destroying her plans because in only a few moments he was storming through her house and appeared by her side. Another wave of pain spread through Hotaru as she tried to growl at the intruder, making her attempt sound more like a choke than a warning. However, the gifts the male brought placated Hotaru. She greedily grabbed the canteen, lapping up the water as she quenched a thirst she didn't even realized she had.

Another pair of thundering feet brought out a warning growl from Hotaru, and the young voice that accompanied it as well as the return of Fawkes made the young mother angry. "Who let the pup in here? Fawkes, get her out of here." A negative click came from the bird who quickly winged out of the room to join Kelia in the front room.

The pregnant female reluctantly relaxed as Levent's hands skillfully messaged her aching back. She said nothing more, just winced as yet another contraction seized her. They were getting stronger and much closer together. Again and again, the time between each wave became shorter until she felt a contraction that just didn't stop. Instinct drove the female as she pushed with all her might.

When the pressure released at last, there was nothing. No sound of a whining puppy, just the pain ebbing away. Panicking, the new mother moved as fast as her body would go. She leaned over, feeling gingery for the puppy. There was a cord connecting the two, which Hotaru severed without any ceremony. Hotaru grabbed the puppy, trying her best not to hurt it. She protectively brought the little body over, sniffing it carefully. The pup was covered in a slimy sac and moved slightly in her hand. Without thinking, she began to roughly lick the pup, cleaning it and bonding to it. At last, it began to breathe. Whines came from the pup as it took it's first breath and the pup began to wiggle in earnest.
Relief spread over her like a wave and she realized that she had completely blocked out the rest of the world. Hotaru didn't know what the others had done during that time, but she didn't care. The new mother lowered herself onto the furs and cradled her pup close to further clean it. The most she could tell was that the puppy was a female. Once satisfied, Hotaru released her charge and brought the pup out from her body. The pup protested, crying and desiring the warmth of her mother. Hotaru held her out to Levent, "Please, tell me about her." After Levent had a chance to say hi to his daughter, Hotaru wanted to nurse her.

Levent spared no thought for instinct, the old rule of survival that cautioned against males from pestering their mates while they were in labor. However, his intrusion seemed to have paid off, as the woman eagerly accepted the canteen of water.

Dalgina, darling, stay back, he cautioned the curious dark-furred girl. He knew she’d only get in the way and stress out the blind woman (hell, he was probably doing the same), but he also didn’t want to snap at her for just being as curious and excited as he was. He prayed that she got the message from Fawkes, even if she didn’t give him any mind.

Hotaru fell silent then, and he pressed his cream fingers skillfully into her lower back and shoulders, trying to ease some of the tension that came with the exertion she was going through. His own stomach was tight with anxiety, since he’d never been around something like this before—at least, not another luperci. He took deep breaths and tried to recall the smooth calm he’d felt when he’d helped a queen deliver her litter of kittens, or soothed a mare through her difficult birth. It didn’t come.

He could feel a spasm go through the she-wolf, and he peered gingerly over her shoulder as a wet bundle slid out onto the nest of furs. His heart caught in his throat as he stared at the little thing, almost alien, until Hotaru leaned forward and tended to it, holding it in her hands and bathing it with her tongue.

The little creature squeaked lungfuls of air, squirming, until Hotaru hid it from view, cradling it closely while the new father stared on, his ears fallen amongst his messy dark hair and his expression that of utter bewilderment and awe.

And then the newborn was held out to him. He swallowed, but when he heard the woman’s request, he smiled gently then took the little thing in his hands. She’s so small, he breathed, and wondered how he knew it was a she. He nestled her close, breathing in her scent, his blue eyes fallen shut. She smelled like him and like Hotaru and like the most precious thing in the world.

Her fur is pure white, Levent said, opening his eyes and looking at the little squished-in face, the sealed-shut eyes and ears. Its disproportionate head seemed to consist of mostly a mouth, which gaped at him then latched onto one of his fingers, sucking hungrily. And her skin—it’s very pale. She might be albino. He tried to think of what else he could say to the mother, but anything useful completely escaped him.

Kız güzel, the man whispered like a prayer, and he gently pulled his finger from her grip, handing her carefully back to the blind woman so she could nurse. She’s as beautiful as the moon, Hotaru, as beautiful as the moon.

The growl directed at her had the desired effect. Dalgina's ears lowered, upset that she had bothered Taru when all she wanted to do was see the pups be born. She didn't mean to make things even worse with her presence. Dalgina wasn't a pup anymore by normal standards, almost a full year old. Being viewed as an adult was unlikely, unfortunately, especially among older and wiser canines. Diligently she stood up, following Fawkes out of the room in order to grant her friend the privacy she was clearly craving.

The black wolf didn't go far though. The draw to watch was too strong for that. While Tehu chirped about what was happening with the other birds, Dalgina stood just outside of the doorway, wide eyes peering as a tiny form fell out from Taru. It was gross, really, and not something that anyone would want to see. Dalgina was regretting her choice to watch when they began talking. Realizing that the squished up thing that had come out was a puppy Dalgina's tail began to wag. That was amazing! She wanted to come in, but instead she listened as Levent spoke. Pure white. Mouthing the words Dalgina picked up her sketchbook, and began to make a rough drawing of the pale pup, curled up and sleeping under the moon's watchful eyes. She didn't get it done, but she would draw the pup that had been born.

Next puppy in next post.

All the noise and the increasing number of wolves was beginning to stress Hotaru out. Her instincts screamed for her to drive them out. She was vulnerable, her pups were vulnerable. It almost didn't matter that Levent was their father or that Dalgina was her friend. They were a danger to the pups, or so her instincts claimed. Deep in her mind, Hotaru knew it was silly and felt bad about growling at both of them, especially Dalgina. Dalgina was a puppy, she probably didn't understand why Hotaru had rejected her so.

Fawkes's refusal to help take Dalgina out of the room irritated Hotaru, but Levent's gentle words helped calm Hotaru down. At least one had left, if only partially. The males soothing gestures and messaging hands really did help though. Giving birth was a painful and agonizing experience. It would have been downright frightening if it weren't for the darkness. The blind female found it strange that the darkness she had once cursed gave her a sense of comfort. However, she didn't have time to ponder the strange feeling.

With the birth of her first puppy, Hotaru felt both relieved and exhausted. She lay still on the furs as she listened to Levent describe her daughter. Pure white. The sound of something scratching drifted into the room and one of the mother's ears flicked towards Dalgina. She could hear the chirping of the birds as they conversed in low speech. Fawkes said something to Dalgina, but Hotaru was too tired to try and translate. Another spasm hit her body, but it wasn't as bad as before.

Hotaru couldn't be happier when her daughter was handed back to her. She brought the pup close to her chest so it could nurse while they waited for the next pup to arrive. Hotaru licked the tiny wolf again and listened as she cried out in response. Hotaru whined, letting her daughter know everything would be fine, telling her who her mother was. "A name. She needs a name." Hotaru had picked out a name, several in fact that she liked, but none she could recall. The new mother lay with her suckling puppy, unable to think of a name to give her.

There was time to breathe after the albino puppy had been born, although there was a telltale ripple through the female’s abdomen that showed it was not the last. Levent knew they would both have to steal the precious minutes between contractions, at least until the next baby came out into the world.

He smiled tenderly as he watched his daughter suckle, until his ear twitched back and he turned to see that Dalgina was busy with her sketchpad. He threw her a brilliant grin before his attention went back to the ladies, big and little and both more gorgeous than he could believe. His cream fingers went out to Hotaru’s mane, running gently through her fur a few times before the woman spoke of a name.

Levent hesitated, peering down at the tiny white bundle. He’d been mostly joking when he suggested that he was unfit for naming children, but suddenly the responsibility of bestowing a name on such a precious creature was overwhelming. Most of the names that sprang to mind were Turkish (besides his mother’s name, but it didn’t quite seem to suit the white pup), and he filtered through the unpronounceable ones until the epiphany came to him.

Aysun, the man whispered, reaching out and stroking the tiny body with one gentle finger. She is as beautiful as the moon, and so that will be her name.

He knew the mother had the right to reject his suggestion, but he was so caught up with feeling that he didn’t care and didn’t think she would care, either. But it was his daughter, and he wanted the best for her already.

Hotaru, Levent said, withdrawing his hand. His expression grew serious but no less affectionate. Do you need anything else, aşkım?

Dalgina nodded her head in response to Fawkes, most of her concentration taken up by the sketch she was making. She smiled briefly at Levent, pausing before she continued her work. It was nice that there was some time. Was there only going to be one pup? Dalgina knew that she was part of a litter of four, and had assumed such large numbers were normal. Studying her sketch Dalgina smiled wide, continuing to add in small details.

She wished she could see the actual pup. The one she was drawing was how she remembered pups looking with a mix of Levent and Taru in her. The pup looked very peaceful, curled up as she was. Finishing Dalgina looked up at the name that was offered. A moon child, just like her. Carefully she worked on printing the name on the page. The letters were beautiful as they came out, if a touch messy with how new she was to writing. Perfect. She could give it to them once she was allowed back in.

Puppy!

Levent had said earlier on in her pregnancy that she could be the one to pick the names. Hotaru had accepted this, and had spent several hours mulling over suitable names. Yet, when the time came, she found herself drawing a blank. Hotaru could not recall a single name. She mentally hit herself, frustrated that she had forgotten something so important. Once again, Levent came through for her and picked out a beautiful name. Granted, it was in his native language, but Hotaru found herself liking the way it rolled off her tongue. "Aysun."

Gently, the new mother nudged her pup, licking the little female as she suckled. She was going to respond to Levent's question when another painful wave hit again. Over and over again the waves came, each one coming sooner and growing stronger. Hotaru growled softly, her ears pinned to her head and her unseeing eyes closed as she waited for the next pup to arrive.

The second pup was not as easy as Aysun, and took longer to arrive. After several minutes, Hotaru could feel herself relax as the pup slid out from her. She quickly reached over, severing the cord that connected them and proceeded to clean her pup. A little male, and larger than his sister. After several vigorous licks, he too began to wail. His cries echoed by his sister and he fought Hotaru's grip a lot more than Aysun. Smiling, Hotaru brought him closer to her. The new mother went through her list of names, although it was a lot shorter than she remembered. "Aiden, my little fire."

Just as before, Hotaru brought the struggling pup out from under her so that Levent could see. "What is he like?" The blind female could feel her body go into the last stages of birth, expending any extra fluids that remained inside her. There would be no more pups from this littler. Even so, two was more than enough.

The she wolf's thoughts strayed to Dalgina, how patient and understanding she had been. She didn't protest when Hotaru had snapped at her and had remained quiet throughout the ordeal. "Dalgina, you can come in now. I apologize for snapping at you earlier."

The blind she-wolf accepted the name, and Levent smiled. It was kind of silly—and definitely cheesy—but he felt at peace for the first time in his life, sitting with a woman he hoped to love and watching the birth of children he hoped to raise. All his other problems, all the nightmares that confronted him on moonless nights, seemed to disappear, banished even beyond the back of his mind where they were used to lingering. He was just happy, and there was nothing more to it. Perhaps this was yeryüzü cenneti, if only in these moments.

The contractions began again, and Levent offered support in a comforting touch or massage when he felt it appropriate. Near the end, he allowed Hotaru to fight alone, aiding her only in silent prayers to his god. At last, the bundle slipped from between her thighs, and he kept his distance until she had named the child—a son, his son—and asked him for a description. He reached out to touch the wriggling little creature with a finger, fascinated.

“He’s brown—a deep brown like me.” He touched a different-hued streak on his back. “But from his nose to along his spine, he’s an almost faded grey-tawny like your chest and tail.” He knew she’d be able to imagine that color well, at least. “And cream on his stubby little tail,” he said, grinning, “and on his paws and around his eyes, too.”

Although he wasn’t really familiar with the processes of birth, he saw that the two puppies were the only ones that would come. Reclining on the furs, Levent sighed happily and tiredly—as if he’d been the one in labor—then offered a self-conscious simper that Hotaru wouldn’t even be able to see. When she gestured for Dalgina to come into the room, the new father shot her an absolutely blissful, proud smile and scooted back so she could see.

The tension returned as growls erupted from Taru again. Another one! Dalgina placed the drawing down, leaning so she could look inside. Not that there was much to see. Again Dalgina pulled her head back, wondering what this next pup would look like. Idly she worked on her sketch, fixing small errors and adding details as she waited. At last a whimper announced the birth of the next pup. Tail wagging she listened as once more Levent spoke, describing what the pup looked like. Her pencil flew quickly, a rough drawing of the male in black and white quickly forming, shaded for the colors.

The name fit, and Dalgina stepped in, tail wagging as she looked at the two pups, nestled into their mother. They're beautiful. Her voice was quiet, trying not to break the atmosphere with her presence. The proud smile from Levent brought a short giggle from her. Holding out the completed drawing of Aysun she wished Taru could see it. I drew Aysun. The one of Aiden wasn't quite done yet, but when it was she would give that to her too.

Puppy!

Hotaru could feel the emptiness inside her. There would be no more puppies. Somehow, it was a sad and lonely feeling. Like she had lost something that was apart of her and out of her control. Her puppies were out in the world where anything could hurt them. There were two wolves so close, but Hotaru couldn't do anything. It was so hard to trust Levent and Dalgina not to harm the infants, but Hotaru had no choice. She was tired and weak. On top of that, she couldn't even see the puppies much less tell where they were if they weren't touching her. So, ignoring her instincts, Hotaru allowed the presence of the other wolves.

The new mother listened with baited breath as Levent described the little male. He was a combination of his mother and father, a beautiful little boy. As Dalgina entered the room, Hotaru extended her hand to ask for her son back. Aysun was nursing happily against her stomach, and the little boy would be just as hungry. "Thank you Dalgina. Your drawing, is it in color?"

When Aiden had been returned to her, Hotaru reached one hand out and placed it on his knee. Together, they would be responsible for the puppies. The two wolves had started a family together, despite the fact that they weren't really mates. Satisfied, Hotaru shut her eyes and listened to the two new heartbeats.
