(279) Bored Lena is bored. x3

Lena sighed and rolled onto her back, wriggling a bit to scratch it. Everyone was away from the den, either hunting or doing some other business. Even her brother was gone, though only for a moment; he told her to stay by the den when he went off to get a drink from the river. She offerred to go with him, just to let her do something other than sitting outside of the den, but he rejected the idea , for whatever reason being especially protective that day. She sighed dejectedly again at the thought. While she knew the boy meant well, she just wished he woud stop being so overbearing!

But, she decided to let Cody have his way for once, and she stuck close to the mouth of the cave where all the pack slept. It had only been a couple of minutes since he left, but she was already bored to tears. After a couple of seconds of rolling on her back, she flipped back onto her stomach and faced the den in front of her. With a curious tilt of her head, she get onto her paws and took a few steps into the cave. She clicked her teeth together, and pressed her ears forward. Ever so faintly, a soft click returned to her from the back of the den, a quieter playback of the sound.

With a grin, she hummed loudly, and the cavern sang back to her. The girl giggled quietly, and while the den laughed mutedly as well, she started to sing wordlessly, though with a particular rhythm to where it sounded like she and the cave were singing together, two different voices.

Palaydrian was feeling a bit lazy today as she still lay in the bed she and Jiva had made within the den, a series of deer skins and rabbit pelts provided a cushion against the cool floor. Her mate had left her side some time ago, clearly concerned that she wasn’t up before him and already off at her garden. Her morning chores were usually tending to the thirsty plants and going to battle against the endless war the weeds waged on her little bit of Eden before helping out at the borders now that pack security was at an all time high. But she knew why she was a little off her game this morning, it was because she was expecting and had spent a good portion of the night gorging herself on forest squirrels and rabbits. She had cleaned herself off in the river before slipping back into the den and resting by her lover’s side in the dead of night, now the woman was simply exhausted, but enjoying the stolen moments of solitude within the pack den.

It seemed everyone had already gone about their business, the cicadas outside were the only thing she could hear, that was until she could hear the softest clicking sounds coming from the front entrance. The fae gave a low groan as the communal den filled up with child produced noises, bouncing off the back walls and echoing forward once more. It almost sounded like there were 10 pups or more playing in the den! I can sleep when I’m dead, she thought, picking herself up and giving her limbs a good stretch. She yawned tiredly and shook out her coat before making her way towards the source of the cacophony. Playfully, she called back with her own wordless melody, hoping to catch the unsuspecting pup unawares.

As her 4 limbs carried her closer to the mouth of the cave, her eyes became overwhelmed with light, but she searched for the noisemaker. It was Lena, an inkblot against the sky, as her eyes squinted against the bright light coming from the den entrance. Good Morning Little Voice, she called, a bemused smile spreading onto her blazed maw. The woman continued padding towards her as a realization dawned upon her, quickly followed by worry. Where’s your brother Cody? She asked, keeping the alarmed tone out of her voice as neither was rarely seen without the other. She’d be ready to sound an alarm if she suspected any foul play or he’d managed to wander off beyond watching eyes.

The cave sang back, but in her own voice and pitches. What she thought was a beautiful symphony sounded around her, and was wrapped up in the song she was making. So, when the den voiced out a totally different sound, it made Lena yelp in surprise--and the caveran echoed her shock as well. But, a second later the scent of a familiar pack mate came to her, and she stated with good humor, "I thought it was singing to me, Palaydrian!" She rose from her seat as the Soul spoke and licked the female's lower jaw in greeting, and bumping her head softly against her chest.

"I thought no one was in there--sorry if I woke you up," she apologized, though she kept her cheery tone. She titled her head to the side as she asked about Cody. Then, it dawned on her that not many others see her without her brother at her side, or more like her at his side. "He's at the Little River getting some drink," she stated, wondering if she was worried about him. Maybe she was; with all this talk of a missing pup and hurt den mates, there could be cause for worry. But, Lena did not think danger would fall on her brother when he was so close by and in the pack lands. Everyone was safe in the pack lands, or so she thought. "He said that he should be back soon, so he will!" she added confidently, knowing that Cody always kept his word.

It was then her turn to ask a question: "Why were you sleeping so late, Drin? You usually leave before I even wake up!" Barely giving her time to answer her first question, she went on to add another after a second of thought. "What do you do so early in the morning, anyway? Do you go hunting for prey that only comes out early? Or do you go exploring?" If she was awake before she felt the warmth of the sun, she imagined doing the things she stated, but she wondered if Palaydrain did those things, or something completely different.

The woman’s smile grew as she returned the affections showered upon her by the black velvet child. She secretly wanted a daughter of her own and Lucia and Lena had been filling that void in her heart for the past few months. Her rose tongue caressed the space between the child’s ears before she sat back up with a laugh. That would be a wonder wouldn’t it? She asked, imagining the cave singing back to the New Dawn pup. Quite scary too... she mused before making a clucking sound against the roof of her mouth. Nonsense Lena! You kept me from sleeping in all day like a lazy bum, she explained, her tone matching the girl’s. So thank you for singing me awake. Palaydrian sat back on her haunches and listened to the girl’s explanation of where her brother had gone off to. The maternal sense of worry faded away, she needed to relax...everyone did. The pups would be safe this far into the heart of their homelands. Amy and Aram would be foolish to think they’d get even 5 feet within the borders without meeting a wall of fangs.

Palaydrian allowed a soft sigh of acceptance breathe out her maw and she nodded her head though Lena couldn’t see it. Well I trust Cody’s word and especially your judgement Lena, she assured the child bending down to give her an affectionate nuzzle. I can’t believe how fast the two of you have grown! It had to be said and she was sure the Rhiannon’s heard it enough, but it was amazing how time had flown as the two seemed to be growing before her eyes. Drin didn’t have time to dwell on this as the child was peppering the Omega with her own questions. The woman’s eyebrows rose, she couldn’t believe how much Lena had observed! This was further proof that the loss of one sense only heightened the others. Drin admired her curiosity and verve for life, this child reminded her of herself...an old soul in a child’s body. My my, so many questions! The woman laughed, deciding then that Lena would make an excellent apprentice in her garden if she wished to help out.

Why don’t I answer your questions on the way? She asked the girl as she stretched out her limbs once more, rising to her four paws. That is of course if you’d like to come along, she continued. I’m very late in my morning routines, and I could use a helper like yourself in my garden. I don’t think your mother would mind and we can see if Cody would like to join...of course, sometimes a girl just needs to get away from it all, she said somewhat wistfully. Drin would wait for the child’s response.

"Nah, its wouldn't be scary," she disagreed, wagging her tail at the thought of a singing cave. She could sing right along with it, and maybe talk through song. A cave could have many things to say--how long it had lived, who had lived in it before. The idea made her excited, and she wished it could be real. But, before she could daydream about talking caverns for too long, she was brought back by the woman's voice, and she grinned at words. "Yeah! No one likes a lazy bum. And you're welcome!" Maybe she should sing everyone awake every morning so they didn't sleep in, she thought. But, she then realized she had to wake up really early, and quickly ditched the thought.

Her grin spread even further as Palaydrian said that she trusted her and her brother's words, and nearly wanted to jump when she mentioned how big the two had gotten. But, instead she settled on wriggling with clear excitement. "I know, right? Everyone has been telling us that--that means it won't be long until we're all grown up!" She looked forward to being an adult, to be able to do more things without all the grown-ups bothering her. She'd might even be able to venture out of the packlands, though she was certain it was only possible if she had an escort. While it bothered her, she did not focus on that as long as she could go somewhere other than the den. "I can't wait!" she added, and wished there was a way to make herself get bigger faster.

"Really?" she prompted, blank eyes widening as Drin suggested that she could go with her, her face slackening from surprise. No one ever asked for her help before. The smile slowly crepted back onto her muzzle, and while her tail moved furiously behind her, she tried to keep still. "Yeah, I wanna come! I'll be the best help ever!" When she commented about Cody, she realized that she had totally forgot about him. She pursed lips in thought, and after a moment she howled wordlessly, clearly calling to her brother. A few seconds passed, but before too long a young male's voice called back, and she grinned at his answer. "I think he said we can go without him! Let's go, let's go!"

She ran a few steps forward, towards the trees, but stopped when she remembered something. "I don't know where her garden is," she murmured to herself, and she turned back to the woman, her head titled to the side. Was she even heading the right way? With a meek smile, she bounced back to Drin and stood near her, ready to be led and ready to give a lending paw.
