She had seen the damage that Jace had done, seen what the mother had done to her own children. Mutilated them, scarred them forever, tore apart Honrin's face, her own son. The surge of anger that Skye had felt when she learned of the news had flowed through her veins, sparking a fire that hadn't been lit in a long time. She did not tolerate the mutilation of her pack members. She did not tolerate threats from within.

She knew that the female had barred herself from any others, but still Skye walked to her house, as pregnant as she was. She was not looking for confrontation. She was looking for an explanation, and justice - although there was no excuse for harming Honrin so badly. As she found herself at the doorstep of the former Wolfe home, she felt a surge of anger before speaking.

"JACE," she barked sharply and loudly, knowing that the female could hear her even through the door. "You have mutilated your own children and packmates. WHY?" It was clear from the alpha's tone that she was intolerant of the threat that Jace now posed to her pack.

She should be happy, so happy and yet she was not. They lived yes but only barely. The multicolored bunch at her side did not act as her first litter had. There were no squeaks and they hardly moved at all, but for four of them she held hope, the fifth one though, the youngest... Jace was already preparing herself for the death that was surely coming. She, for it was a little girl, had not moved at all since her birth, not woken up beyond a vague stirring to weakly feed. The woman was filled with despair. This was her punishment, she was sure of it. She had broken her own family, and the scream of her son echoed around her mind, it drove her to insanity and she had long ago destroyed what little furniture she hadn't piled against the front and back doors.

She stiffened as Skye's voice pounded through the house. Her fur bristling at the challenge she felt to her children's existence. She didn't want to leave them but she had to answer the Alpha's demand. She was loathe to be parted and dragged a warm blanket across their small fragile forms lest they freeze to death with their bodies ineffective at staying warm. Her footsteps were heavy against the wooden floor despite how much weight she had lost. She was almost gaunt, the bones in her ribs just visible. Her voice was weak, despite her protestation,

"Please leave. None are welcome here."

Skye heard the deliberate, drudging footsteps of the arctic woman walking from one end of the home to another. She did not take heed of the weakness in the steps or the near-depression that they indicated - if Jace was strong enough to slice her son's face apart, she was strong enough to walk to the door and answer Skye properly.

The weak, almost pathetic voice sounded barely through the door, asking Skye to leave. Skye's tail bristled in anger, her ears laying flat against against her skull and she bared her teeth, although she knew that Jace could not see it.

"You mauled Honrin and Keldava. Your own family. You have forfeited the right to say that none are welcome here," she snarled, anger clear in her voice. It wasn't loud this time, not as loud as her initial roar had been, but still full of anger and rage, clear in the tones of the voice. How dare the woman assume that she had any right to turn away her alpha after harming her own pack?

"Why," she roared again, "have you harmed them?"

The tirade rained down upon her was like molten fire to her ears further shoving her into her self constructed hollow of guilt and shame. And she could hardly even bring herself to respond to it. She knew what she had done was horrendous and she truly regretted her actions. But her angrr began to grow too, what did Skye know of her reasons? What did she know of her pain and suffering, what she had been through. In the space of the few seconds before Skye raged at her again it cycled and every time it cycled it doubled inside of her, spiraling out of all proportion, the voice she sent back was a roar, drowning out Skye's words,

"I DON'T KNOW!" Her crimes were laid bare for her and it twisted the knife deeper inside of her gut, causing that much more agony that the woman cried out and stumbled. She laid against the floor, panting harshly at her exertions even though she had done so little as shout.

The alpha's hackles rose as she heard the woman's voice shout through the door, attempting to drown out Skye's own voice. But there was no drowning out the voice of reason, the voice of justice, the voice of those who had done right to those who have done wrong. Jace had done wrong.

"If you cannot control your need to maul," the leader snarled through the door, venom and anger in her voice, "you have no right to call yourself a guardian of this pack any longer!" The anger in her voice was clear, the tones and inflections giving way to pure dominance of the alpha. Jace was not her leader, and she would not allow her to act like a superior in this way. She may have been a high rank in Ichika, but this was not Ichika.

"If you cannot control your actions, you are a threat," she said lowly - the raw anger was seeping from her voice, but it was replaced with an icy chill. The anger wasn't leaving, but transforming, ice replacing the fire. "You are no longer trusted to protect, for you cannot withhold your urge to harm the pack." Jace's title was stripped away with a few words from Skye - she did not do it lightly, either. She knew that Jace likely had a reason for her actions, but her reasons did not excuse her. If she could not control her rage, then she could not hold the title of 'protector' any longer.

Demoted. Again. She sighed silently, all of her anger gone now. Something broke inside of her. The first sob came quietly although it sounded loud in the silence. But once it was released it was like a dam breaking before a flood. She had never asked for this, she knew that she had done wrong by attacking Honrin and Keldava and possibly destroyed her family in the process, she didn't know if any of them would ever speak to her again, she didn't expect them to but it still crushed her deeply.

Her gasping sobs were pitiful to hear as she curled herself up on the floor. Everything was piling on top of her and her own denied thoughts began to spill out of her in a burst of emotion,

"They're going to die! She tried to speak some more but was crying too much for the words to be made out. Instead the woman began to keen to herself, a mourning lament for an event that had yet to occur. She was weak and this was her pain, this was the life she bled,

"I am sorry. I didn't mean to... everything flashed so quickly.. and... I would never... could never...but I did. I'm a monster." Her words and sentences were disjointed and fragmented, but it was easy to hear just how much her guilt tore at her, regret and shame lacing her every word.

Although Skye was angry, she was not without sympathy - Jace could not be called a protector anymore, at least not until she had proven that she could control her temper, but that did not make her any less a member of the pack that they both shared. Not all of Skye's temper dissipated, but it did give way slightly for sympathy as Jace began to sob and tell her what was wrong, why she had done what she did - although it would not undo her decision.

"I know what it's like to lose a pup, Jace," she said lowly. "I know what it's like.. to slowly realize you may never see them again." Sharp memories of the dark time after she had lost Nathaniel rushed back to her, cutting at her. She had failed him. She would not fail another.

"But," she said, her voice becoming more steely, "Honrin and Keldava are also your children. If you believe your pups are going to die.. you need to help them. Not hurt them. Allow Taliesin to see them. Help them - don't hurt them as you did Honrin," she said. She did not doubt Jace, but she was no healer like Taliesin was, and she did not have the resources in her home that Taliesin did in his home and in the garden. Shutting everyone out, scarring her other children, was not helping the pups.

I think we can end it here?

She was gone now, lost to her mourning despair. She had fully convinced herself that the five children were going to die and that nothing could save them. Skye's words were just noise that didn't make sense. The arctic woman dragged herself away from the barricaded door and tightly shut windows covered with cloth. The thinness of her legs and stark apparent of her ribs showed that the woman was not far from the eternal abyss herself, she was really in no condition to nurse five children, but she was blinded by her own culture and pure thick headed stubbornness. Custom dictated that if they were sick then they must either live or die according to Artoi's rule. Only luck would save the newest Denahlii children and their lost mother.

She returned herself to the children who struggled weakly, lowering herself amongst them, her world collapsing in upon herself. They whimpered but she had no comfort for them other than the heat her body produced. Her world was destroyed, gone into the darkness. She laid her head across them and closed her eyes, if she could die with them then maybe that wouldn't be so bad.

As the gap of silence between Skye's statements and Jace's reply grew wider, the creamy alpha grew more certain that she was not going to reply. And she was correct; the arctic woman stayed silent, seemingly broken by the realization of what she had done.

Although she had realized it, the fact was that it had still happened - and thus, it could happen again. Skye knew she would not get through to the woman, not now, so she began to turn away, leaving with only a few parting words - "Think about it, Jace."

She then descended down the steps, leaving the Infidel alone in her house, with her sick pups, to think of the past and the future.
