If only fairytales were real and not an illusion

Midday of the 21st
Honrin is chopping down trees between the garden and Hotaru's house to clear space for a horse training ring.

The heavy rhythmic pounding of his stone axe against the tree was a calming one. If anyone had any doubts about the strength and moral fiber of this individual then they would be laid to rest then and there. Other, lesser creatures may have given up and sunk to the ground with their worthlessness but not him, never him. He was his mother's son, his father's son, hard workers both of them. Thinking of his mother was a painful affair and he felt his face throb in phantom pain. He had grown used to seeing past the raised scarred skin but nothing had prepared him that first time upon looking into the puddle just how severe the damage was. He truly was his mother's son now, in body as well as spirit for his facial scars echoed her own, with an extra two lines to mar his face forever.

There was a tearing, cracking, popping noise as the tree he was hacking away at began to bend and buckle under its own weight. several more muscle wrenching swings of the heavy weapon and with a huge groan of complaint the towering giant finally toppled, taking several smaller trees down with it. He was careful to angle its fall away from both the gardens and the house of Hotaru where Dalgina now lived. He was neither gladdened or excited by his progress, several more toppled giants surrounded him, he simply surveyed his worksite with a critical eye, cold and unemotional as the rocks in the ground.

Dalgina had been working on a painting. The canvas stood tall in the room, Tehu perched on a window watching outside. She had been at it for some hours, colors roaming across the blank sheet. It covered her arms and chest as well, the black female now looking like a myriad of colors as the paint clung to her body. Stepping back Dalgina examined what she had made. From her window she could see the woods behind Taru's house. Occasionally she saw the sun rising up over it, painting everything red and gold. Her attempts to capture it on canvas was difficult, the greens and yellows swelling in the trees.

A sudden loud crack rang through the air. Such noises had been going on all morning, but this one was really close. Jumping Dalgina turned, wondering what it was. Walking over to the window she stroked Tehu's head absently and stuck her head outside. Devastation covered the ground. The grand trees that had been outside had fallen, their thick branches coating the ground. In the center of it her brother stood with an ax, looking over the damage he had done. Honrin! What was he doing? Her ears perked forwards curiously, hoping for an explanation.

Oh my gosh, I am too slow. ;__; +443

The first crash of an old giant caused Levent to flinch and the puppies to whimper. He cooed to them gently in Turkish, scooping up his little girl in his arms when she wasn’t as quick to calm as her fiery little brother. She reached at his snout with a paw, missing a couple of times as her unfocused pinkish-blue eyes tried to adjust, fixing on this thing protruding into her world. At last her pad scraped the leather of his nose, and she babbled something softly, almost a sound of triumph. He grinned and rewarded her with a kiss on her little paw before there was another crash. He looked up to see that Dalgina had moved from her spot by the window, abandoning her painting in favor of investigating all thenoise.

“Bu korkunç gürültü kontrol bize gidelim!” the brown-furred man said, feigning shock and curiosity. He thought about reaching in to grab Aiden too, but he didn’t think it’d be appropriate to have both puppies with him. He tread lightly when around Hotaru, trusting her as a mother more than he trusted himself as a father, despite her blindness—although small acts of rebellion, such as talking to the children in Turkish that they might learn it, were commonplace. After telling one of the birds to watch Aiden, he tugged at the collar of his shirt so that the albino puppy could be tucked there, against his chest and warm and shielded from the sunlight. He held her with an arm as he stepped out into the daylight.

Aysun made little noises at the world, trying to see it all at once, but her father held her closer and finally made his way to the source of the sound. He’d looked from the window to see the trees falling, and thought he caught a glimpse of the lumberjack, but now he had a better look. Knowing that Hotaru would absolutely rip him to shreds if she knew he’d taken her daughter near falling trees, he moved furtively but announced himself with a jovial bark when he saw the white Wolfe-Denahlii son.

The Turk hesitated when he came closer, though, and saw the mess that was his face. He betrayed little feeling, although his bandaged shoulder ached at the sight. He’d heard the story of what had happened with Jace, especially since Dalgina occupied Hotaru’s home now, and he couldn’t imagine what all the children were going through.

“Hello Dalgina, Honrin,” Levent said warmly, giving the dark girl a wink then smiling at the white wolf. Aysun babbled something incoherent, her eyes squinting against the sunlight; Lev shielded her with a paw.

The sound of crashing trees caused the new mother more stress than she cared for. Hotaru fidgeted with her tools in the workshop, formally a human's garage. The Maven cleaned her tools as she tried to focus on her work, but the occasional crashes caused her ears to fall flat against her head and her tail to bristle. Hotaru knew it was silly, her mind was sure that no harm would come to Aiden and Aysun. Yet, the mother's instincts hated the crash and feared for her infant pups safety.

Another crash came and Hotaru had, had enough. She quickly exited the garage and made her way to the bedroom where Aiden and Aysun often stayed. Striding over to the crib, the blind female reached into the fur laden structure to find only one pup. Hotaru let out a growl as her temper rose. Most of the time, Levent was a good father. Although his speaking in Turkish annoyed her, what really got to the new mother was his insistence on taking the pups outside. Hotaru scooped Aiden up into her arms, feeling him squirm as he yipped and babbled excitedly.

Hotaru cradled her son delicately, holding him as if he would break at any moment. She could feel him nipping and pawing at her arm. "Fawkes!" A chirp came from Fawkes as he quickly tattled on Levent. Cursing, Hotaru exited the house slowly. Fawkes and Kelia both followed as they led the way to where Levent was. "LEVENT! Where is Aysun? And what is going on here?"

Paranoid, the female stayed only on the edges of the forest. One sniff and she knew that Dalgna and Hornin were in the forest along with Aysun and her idiotic father.

Just to clear up some seeming confusion, Honrin is not cutting down trees directly next to Hotaru's house but more into the forest towards the stables.

The ground shook as the tree hit it and the boy had to spread his weight to remain balanced. He stared about himself, mentally calculating the area that he had decimated with his axe. By his estimation this should be enough now for him to worth with. An entire swathe of trees had been cleared nearby to the stables, enough for him to construct a large penned off area to be used for training, exercising and breaking horses. Just over ten of the giants had been felled and countless other smaller trees in between had been culled as well. He still had to clear the underbrush as well which he would either relocate and use to feed the animals.

He kneeled down and consulted his sketchy map of the surrounding area that he had marked out after waking up early in the morning. His head still pounded from his drinking bender but he ignored it, forcing himself to see past the pain and nausea, if he was a fool enough to drink so much then he could deal with the results of it. Now that he had a good idea of whereabouts he was in relation to everything he could work out exactly how large to make the structure. As he was consulting his map a voice assailed him, forcing him to look up and address his concerned looking sister.

Before he could however, another appeared, a male that Honrin knew vaguely from the trip north on the boat. And then a third came, the blind carver that Dalgina lodged with. If he could he would have grit his teeth and cursed his luck, how was he supposed to work with people interrupting him? But with people here that were not in his heart he could feel nothing mroe of emotion. He ignored the first two until the blind female, of higher ranking demanded to know what he was doing. He would be angry and frustrated later but for now he spoke his answer, raising his monotone voice so she could hear him from the edge of the forest where she stayed.

"I am cutting down trees. To make a corral for the horses. I have the Captina's approval for this." With that he went back to his work, hacking away at the branches that stuck out of the trunks, he would have use of them later and placed them to the side when they came off.

Dalgina glanced over, smiling warmly at Levent. Aysun was balanced in his arms, curiously examining everything around her. The sight of the puppies always cheered her up, despite the distant pain that it caused knowing that she had lost her mother because of puppies. She jumped guiltily as Taru's voice shouted through the new clearing. Uh oh. She shot a glance towards Levent and quickly began moving away from the source of Taru's wrath.

She knew that Taru wouldn't actually harm her. Taru was nothing like Mahn. She just didn't want to get scolded at the same time. Honrin's cold voice surprised her, not used to such an emotionless response from her brother. A horse corral? They'll be staying near here? That would be nice. She'd be able to go down and visit them. She rather liked the horses, even if they weren't as smart as Ovi and Tehu.

Aysun squirmed a little against his chest, and the merchant was proud of her liveliness. Although their mother didn’t appreciate their outdoor trips, Levent thought that they were ready to look at the big world Tanrı had crafted for them. He didn’t have any delusions that they might suddenly spring out of his arms and bounce across the grass—they were far too little and could only just crawl and wobble—but he was hoping to give them a little edge on the competition, as it were. At least, he’d been paraded around over almost all of Europe in a sling around his father’s neck when he was an infant.

The brown-furred man hardly paid attention to the Wolfe-Denahlii children, instead running a finger over the nearly transparent skin of his daughter’s little ears. She mouthed his hand until a loud call caused the man to flinch and Aysun to start squirming again. Holding her closely, he turned and flattened his ears as he saw a less-than-pleased Hotaru venture to the edge of the woods.

“I have Aysun, Hotaru,” Levent said gently, walking over to her side and resting a tentative hand on her shoulder; he was glad she was blind, or she’d get way too much satisfaction out of his sheepish facial expression. He shifted his weight slightly so that Aysun, while still carefully held, could reach out and nudge at her mother. “You want her?”

There was a pause as the white wolf addressed their questions, and Lev frowned as Honrin immediately went back to hacking away at the branches. He heard the dark she-wolf’s question and shot her a flippant grin. “They live in the stables very close by, Dalgina, but a corral would give them more space to run without the caretakers having to attend to them individually.” At least, that’s what he assumed would be the result. He knew it’d be nice to let Mai actually run around without a luperci constantly hovering over her, even if he liked keeping a close eye on the outsider mare.

“Would you like any help, Honrin?” Levent called as an afterthought. He hadn’t missed the curtness of the boy’s answer or his overall reserved demeanor, and he didn’t expect for him to accept the offer—but he threw it out there because it was polite, and for little other reason. If his pack mates wanted to break their backs doing a difficult job alone, that was their poor judgment.

Aiden squirmed and howled in her arms as she traveled in search for his sister. Red ears and a black nose twitched as she searched for her missing pup. Once found, the mother's paranoid anger gave an edge to her voice that she normally didn't have. But rather than apologize, Levent simply gave her what she wanted. Relaxing a little, Hotaru took her daughter and cradled both pups, one in each arm. Warmth spread into the mother's eyes as her anger died and she gently rocked the two for a moment before she process what had been said.

"A corral?" Hotaru knew she was parroting the other's questions, but her curiosity as a carver was piqued. With both pups safe in her arms and the lack of falling trees, the Maven had calmed down considerably. The familiar sound of metal hitting small branches caught Hotaru's attention and she listened momentarily as Dalgina and Levent spoke. "Hornin, what kind of wood are you using for the corral. Is it a hard wood or soft wood? Also, do you happen to posses a hand saw? It will make taking those branches off much easier." Her words weren't meant to lecture the younger male, but simply curious.

Hotaru gave a nod as Levent offered to help Hornin. She too was interested in the project, and said "If you would like, I can offer my expertise in the area as well."

I think we can close this now

More and more questions, and Honrin finally set his axe down on it's blade, resigned to these people bothering him until he had explained himself satisfactorily to them despite the fact that he really didn't have to speak to any of them for the only person that mattered really had already okay-ed his project. He turned about and approached the trio of adults and pair of pups. His sister should know better really, that he didn't like his work disturbed.

The Maven, as her title suggested was adept and knowledgeable on the workings of wood and building with it whereas Honrin did lack such experience. Ears piqued he listened to her questions, they're intelligence surprising him into a short silence. "I was going to use hard, it needs to stand up to horses slamming themselves into it." His vice lowered as she also questioned his tool arsenal, Honrin was working with pretty much his axe, "No.. no hand saw.. just a stone axe." He had made the axe himself. He looked the blind woman over and knew that her help would be vital,

"Very well Maven. Please teach me. I require your assistance." It didn't cost him as much pride as he thought to admit his skills were not enough.
