Calm before the storm

sorry this is short :x

In the light of the warm midday sun she bathed, feeling the pleasant heat upon her skin. The round stomached woman leaned against the wall of her house facing the large ball of fire in the sky. The days had passed swiftly for her and she was more tired now than ever. Unknowing of the desolation that was soon to rock her growing family and splinter it into several fractions. She dozed lightly pulled down into slumber by her exhaustion. She had not been fit and able for so long, she longed to be able to patrol again and run as she used to.

But for now she was content to just laze about in the sun with the birds twittering around her. But her contentment did not last for much longer however as white clouds drifted in to obscure the sun she had been so pleasantly lounging in. Berefit of her sunshine the pregnant woman she frowned slightly and sighed, feeling a small chill already working its way into her arms.

Dalgina was laying inside the house, sleepily staring at a jeweled emerald necklace. Her hand tilted it, letting it catch the light and reflect behind her. It was a beautiful sight. Green flecks danced across the room, her tail swaying behind her. It jumped out the window, her gaze coming over to watch beyond it to the outside world. It was a nice day. Why was she inside? Picking up the necklace she slipped it around her head and slipped outside.

Stepping outside she spotted Mahn, fast asleep and looking content. Happily Dalgina looked down, tail swaying behind her. The sun vanished, chill creeping through. She didn't feel it, just happy and content as she was. Mahn. She wanted to be a little girl again, and curl up in her arms. Dalgina was growing up, but she still wanted to be a little girl sometimes, and just be with her family, no concerns.

She drifted still though, her perfect serenity marred only slightly by the coming of the night and the loss of her bath of sunshine. Brown ears twitched as the door to her house opened and the woman knew who it was before the young black girl even spoke, her scent teasing the older female's senses. She turned with a welcoming smile and a beckoning hand as Dalgina spoke her cherished title,

"Come. Sit with me daughter of mine." Her love and devotion was obvious for all but the blind to see and those who could not see would hear it in her voice even if they had no understanding of the words she spoke, Jace loved her daughter, loved all her children, with every last fiber that made her up. Her eyes caught the sparkle of emerald that graced Dalgina's elegant neck and she peered closer, interested in the piece of finery, her own reclaimed necklaces of bone and rawhide seemingly dull in comparison but held a priceless weight of memories,

"Such a beautiful necklace you wear Dalgina. Where did you find it?"

She only hesitated for a moment, and the young female was down the steps to where Mahn laid, a warm and welcoming presence. Her tail swayed happily, basking in the rare moment of singular affection. Between Mahn's patrols and the busy household moments where she got Mahn to herself was rare, stolen moments through the day. Right now, the world was quiet, and they could both just rest together. The pregnancy had granted that much.

Smiling Dalgina arched her head. The plain stone and wood collar she bore with her snowflake pendant was nothing compared to the emeralds around her neck. Sure, the simple one was her first jewelry, granted by a friend when she was a pup, and the pendant tied her to her siblings. The emerald necklace, though. That was special. I was exploring some old buildings for new paper to paint on, and found it hidden.
