brother Conri. D: Ethereal Eclipse. Dated the 15th, just for shits and giggles.

Khaden was so confused about everything. From his relationship with Ember, with Dhalia, with Naniko, with Conri, with the whole lands of Souls. All his original morals, his original ambitions and goals seemed to be cast aside because he got caught up in a whirlwind of what he saw was life permanently on the fast forward. Yet now it seemed like the remote control finally righted itself, overcompensated, and now his life was eternally on pause. Ember was gone from Twilight Vale and it's Manor. No trace of Dhalia, although gods knew Khaden wasn't particularly looking. Naniko and Conri... he didn't know even how to begin.

So off the Aatte boy was, once again, how he had started this whole mess to begin with - out on the open, by himself. He was trekking through the particularly dense forest of Ethereal Eclipse, knowing that it made no difference if he was sheltered by the immense trees or not - the weather proved to be so gray and dismal that he was going to get sopping wet and cold anyways. Paws left soft prints in the large mass of moss, and he slunk from tree to tree, unsure on how to truly settle before he just plopped himself in front of a tree and felt as if his teenage angst provided enough moodiness for him to just die inside.

And to top off the emo-fest, Khaden had just turned one years old. "Happy birthday Khaden." His secui form exhausted from his travels as his long mane seemed to soak up all the moisture that settled upon the floor. "May this year actually bring some peace of mind."

It was a familiar scent that stirred him from his place. It drifted past trees and rocks, finding it's way to the nose of the tired male. Sleep was still a fleeting thing, coming in small spurts and lasting barely an hour or two. Heavy eyes opened finally, wishing away the light that poured in to him, and he moved them across the landscape in front of him as he waited for his vision to adjust. Trees, trees, and more trees. He was still in the forest. There were times when Conri would literally wake up and not know where he was, or even times that he just sort 'snapped out of it' and didn't know where he was. Today, at the very least, he seemed to be halfway aware of thing.

Getting himself to his knees, Conri reached out to take hold of the baseball bat with his hand, pressing the end of it in to the dirt to help get himself to his feet. He moved from beneath the tree then, dragging the bat behind him as went along, looking something like a zombie as he went. Nose flared now and again, taking in the scent, leading him to the area that it was coming from. Finally, after a short distance, Conri found him. He was resting beneath a tree, or seemed to be, but he also spoke to himself. Ears tipped forward as he approached, finally revealing himself from behind a row of trees, heading straight for his brother. He continued to drag the bat along, only stopping a few feet from Khaden.

The expression on his face turned from something that seemed quite dead to something more sad. Khaden would be disappointed in him, should be, and probably was. "Happy Birthday.." He managed, and said nothing more than that.

He had imagined this day for weeks it seemed. He had heard Savina's screams through Twilight Vale on that fateful night, and ever since then he had literally played through every single possible outcome of the situation. Ever since the rumors and the words seeped through the lands of 'Souls from hand to mouth, as if possessed by some primal gossip beast, Khaden honestly did not know how to deal with it. Granted, he could not think of the position Conri had put Naniko in - but all in all, the whole equation didn't make sense. Granted, out of the whole year Khaden had lived on this god forsaken planet, he hadn't known his older brother quite as well or adeptly as he had wanted, but some things didn't just add up right. Why did Conri snap the way he did for no apparent reason at all? What truly brought the russet hued wolf over the edge, because wolves aren't just tragically in love with their mates one day, and then run to rape them the next.

And it was then when he heard it, as if speaking to the devil himself. The wish of happy tidings from that familiar voice made Khaden's head turn slowly, as if caught in some surreal world where every scenario that Khaden had previously played out in his mind seemed to flood back to him in queer flashbacks. The ones where he got mad, where he got sad, where he beat his paws upon his brother and told him what the hell was he thinking, the ones where he just walked away. His whole body moved at that point, and as the last of those wretched flashbacks seemed to empty into oblivion, Khaden felt his whole body shift. Secui form changing effortlessly into his optime, Khaden continued to move, continued to make his way towards his brother before he truly just locked eyes on him, green on green. Digits pushing up as his whole body leaned forward, as arms came to wrap around Conri's body in a motion that the Aatte boy had never pictured before for this sort of situation. Words soft and diligent seemed to seep from his muzzle as he regarded his brother in a way that was sincerely alien.

"I love you Conri."

He had been avoiding them for so long now, it seemed. His real family, his mother and his brother, who he knew would look upon him with shame-filled eyes. He had been the good son for so long, the one who wanted nothing more than to protect his family and keep those close to him safe from the world, but now what? Conri had turned in to the very thing that he had hated for so long now. In his head he was still at fault for his father's death, the man who had taken the worlds of many, but now Conri was him. Now, perhaps, it was his turn to die. Seeing Khaden there though, hearing the quiet words that his younger brother spoke to himself, Conri simply couldn't pass on and avoid him. He deserved more than that, much more than Conri could give him.

Khaden took notice of him quickly, just as he expected, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't discern any particular expression or feeling from his brother. He moved suddenly, shifting and coming near, and Conri could only stand and watch him. Would he attack? Most likely, and Conri would accept the defeat. Instead of attacking, when Khaden was right in front of him, the younger boy slid his arms around him, and Conri's eyes grew wide. It only a moment the bat clattered against the ground, his arm coming up to embrace his brother back. Warm tears stung at his eyes, head lowering to rest against Khaden's shoulder, shuddering. "I love you too." The words were quiet and almost foreign, but they were the truth. Did he know? Were they keeping it a secret? Did Khaden know that Conri was a monster?

"Please don't let me hurt anyone else.." It was a grim request, some sort of horrible promise that he hoped his brother would make and keep.
