As I have no current RPG games I am in, I'll write a little something about River's father.

-
River Rune was ¾ wolf and ¼ dog. Her father was pure wolf, his lineage long and ancient. His parents, and their parents before them came from what was once the northern United States. Long before the demise of humanity, his ancestors wandered the states, on the edge of extinction themselves. Humans had driven his kind out. They slaughtered wolves, or starved them. Either way, very few wolves existed in the United States for the last 100 years; except his family. Unable or unwilling to leave their ancestral territories, they toughed it out. They learned to live on the outskirts of the human world, wary, and fierce. Long before the white man came, they had lived in harmony with humans. But the world changes. So they adapted. This constant fight for survival changed his ancestors. They became untrusting, and sometimes desperate. But mostly they became lonely. As they watched their extinction draw near, they learned a way to keep their heritage alive. Long ago they had lived side by side with the Northern Indians. They hunted the same grounds, fought the same wild enemies, and even shared ideas. The Indians saw how the wolves hunted in packs, and embraced that idea. The wolves saw how the Indians told stories to their young, and they took that. And so, River’s father’s pack fell back into story-telling. They told stories of their proud line, of the times before humans, of the ancient ancestral memories of all wolves. As the pups grew up, they knew each and every family member, and every event in the pack’s collective history. This assured that if any of them survived the upcoming extinction, then at least they all survived in some small way.

And then humanity fell. The disease ripped through the population. And once again the wolves were free. Suddenly they had endless territories, new prey. The future looked hopeful. They could go back to the way they had been for countless generations. They had escaped their own deaths. What they didn’t count on was their own mutations. As their numbers grew, strange things started to happen. They started to change. Their bodies became different, their minds sharper. It was a new era. The era of canines and all their kind.

River’s father was born into a world where shifting was already common-place. It was the only life he knew. He grew up being called Silver Rune, for his striking silver fur. Names had already become the norm. No one in her father’s pack knew quite how it happened. They only knew that once they changed, the names they had been using became…. Inadequate. No longer could they call each other Sweet Scent She Wolf From The Valley Pack, or Sad Song He Wolf From High Mountain Pack. The words fumbled as their language burst into sudden growth. So the names became shorter, more specific. Parents passed on names to their young at birth. Some in his pack said this was an old memory, taken from the Indian Days. River’s father didn’t know for sure. But he was born Silver Rune, by Hawke Rune out of Dawn Star. Months passed from his birth and his pack expanded. All around them were other wolves, coyotes, dogs, who wanted to learn from each other. They exchanged stories, ideas, theories, lifestyles. He met wolves with names that tasted human to him. Names like James Reynolds, Alari Sills. This piqued his interest. A years passed, nearly two. He was a grown wolf by then. He had made his first kills. He had even experienced battle when a pack of crazed shifters tried to take over his families’ land. By all means he should have soon picked a mate and grown old with his ancient, memory-sharing pack. But the wander-lust got to him. It drove him mad the longer he stayed in the Northern United States. So one night, he left his family behind. He ran for days, longing for the edge of the known world. Silver wanted to go further than any of his pack.

The cold north called him, urging him on. Silver became a loner. And it thrilled him. Life became difficult. As he traveled he met endless others. Some who could shift, a few who could not. Some welcomed him with open arms. Other’s tried to rip his throat out. He eventually made it into the never ending forests of Canada. Something about this placed soothed him. He felt at home, as if he belonged. All alone, but content, Silver resigned himself to the life of a loner. In his mind, he doubted he would ever find a pack, or even a mate. He would never have pups to whom he would pass on his ancestral memories.
Until he met River’s mother. Her name was Inora Savkich. Half wolf, half dog, she was the most beautiful being he had ever seen. And once again, he was not alone.

Welcome to 'Souls!

Congratulations! You've been accepted into the craziest bunch of roleplayers on the vast Internet! We encourage you to keep checking out our information; you can find a wealth of it on the RP Guide. Don't feel pressured to read it all at once -- the guide is a huge resource and is meant to be used as a reference.

If You've Joined the Game As a...
  • ... Loner, do begin considering which of the packs you'd like to join. Survival as a Loner is less realistic -- wolves and other canines are generally social creatures, preferring to live in a pack structure!
  • ... IC pack joiner, you can now begin posting -- you may start your IC pack joining thread whenever you're ready. Make sure you check the pack information to see if the leadership requires anything extra from you!
  • ... OOC pack joiner, the leader still has to respond here before you can start roleplaying -- don't worry, though; if you're rejected from the pack you'll be titled as a Loner, and you're free to pursue other packs or the same one later.
Post-Joining Process
Mandatory:
  • Make an In Character post within five days. Post a thread request to get started, or consider starting or replying to an open thread.
  • Please let us know in the Absentee Thread if you plan to be absent for more than four days.
  • Keep reading! While there's only a minimum of three topics you have to read to join the game, we provide a wealth of information for a reason -- we expect players to read and reference this material often while they roleplay at 'Souls.
Preferred:
  • If you're leaving us, please try to let us know in the Player Updates forum. There is no penalty for leaving; you're free to re-join at any time later.
Still Need a Bit of Help?

Post any questions you may have in the Questions and Help forum. Check the FAQ first, though! The Mentors can assist you with writing, roleplaying, and understanding 'Souls concepts. Failing all else, contact a staff member.

If you need help getting adjusted to your pack, you should talk to your pack leader! They can help you to understand the pack's rank system and how to get a better rank, as well as direct you to plots, potential thread partners, and active members of the pack who may be interested in engaging you.
