Glen Eyrie

Word Count → 000

Kiara stood in the middle of the glen. The days were gradually growing cooler and the mornings had taken on the brisk scent of fall. Some leaves in the young forest had already begun to change colors, their vibrant forms strange against the greenery. However, the change meant that fall was upon them and soon, the first snows would arrive. Kiara couldn't wait. She hated summer and the past one had been the worst of her life. Fall promised change, and change was what she needed.

The arctic female had spent most of the day tracking different herds. The huntress had found a deer pack close by, one that showed promise for having weak individuals. It was hard finding good prey during the summer months, as it was a time of plenty for the prey species. However, Kiara felt like it was time for the pups to prove their worth to the pack. The first pack hunt was a traditional right from the Amarok family, and was important for a puppies growth. It was one of the major milestones in a young wolf's life, and despite all of the unfortunate situations that they were in, Kiara refused to let her daughter miss something so important. She had taught Lucia how to hunt, but now Lucia had to prove herself to the pack.

Leaning her head back, Kiara called to the rest of the pack. Her normally submissive voice had taken on the kind, but commanding quality of a mother. Her high voice rose and fell as she called to the pups and to the pack, asking them join her in the hunt. Hopefully, all of the pups would come as well as most if not all of the pack. When her voice died down, she lowered her muzzle and sat back to wait and see who would come.

314 - Weu! Big Grin Pack hunt thread for the win!

Kiara's call was met with pleasantly sleepy ears. Sky was in between chores, taking a quick cat-nap in the clinic, Fella tucked into her fur comfortably. This was the only place she got to spend time with her adopted boy, the young bobcat happy to have his 'mother' around again. He'd noticed Sky's mood lifting with Shaw's arrival into the pack and was more than happy to welcome the wolf as family because of it. So whenever either of the two ex-artisans had a moment, that's where he went, spending time with both and enjoying it as much as he could. The howl that woke Sky from her dreams was unwelcome to him. She rose to her feet despite his protests and headed out without him, leaving him behind in the clinic with a 'I'll be back, love you' for comfort. Great.

Sky made easy time reaching the glen. Upon seeing Kiara's pale form, the earthen hybrid waved her tail happily and approached on light paws. She was in her lupus form, as usual, so when she got close enough, she offered the other mother an affectionate lick to the ear and a brush of shoulders before stepping back.

"Good tidings, sister. I hope you've good news, calling the pack together." She smiled, sure by the lack of fearscent that Kiara was going to make her day a little brighter. She kept an ear trained to the forest around them, hopeful to see certain members show up- like Shawchert, and her kids... and Zalen, of course. The thought of the alpha earned the girl a nervous tail wag- was he still upset about what happened with Tharin? She hoped not. Nothing was worse that upsetting Zalen, who'd so far been so patient. She'd hated to hear his growls during the upset. She hoped that sound would never be directed her way again.

Lena sighed as she toyed with a plant between her hands, letting the leaves run smoothly over her fingers. It would be soon that they would turn brittle and cold, she knew, and felt a little saddened that there was not anything she could do to stop the seasons from changing. She wondered momentarily if the coming fall would effect her as well, or her friends for that matter. Things were already changing so fast--Titatina's disappearance, the news of her children's death, Palaydrian's own going away before they were even born--that particularly hit her the hardest of all. She felt all this news being pressed against her shoulders as if they were her problems, and even when she talked to Cody about a little of it she was still pinned by the weight.

The howl was sounded, and for a moment, Lena was fearful it was for something bad. But, the call was not urgent, but it was comforting, and nagged her to go to it. She cocked her ears to her brother, who was sitting silently a little distance away, and she heard him murmur something about going to it. On the way there, the girl went back down to her feral form--for whatever reason, she liked her optime better. She guessed two hands beated four paws, and did not see the trouble with going about things in that form, but she decided to shift down, just in case.

The twins padded to where Kiara waited, and both had a grin upon their face as they sensed their mother was there as well. Cody gave a warm yet mild mannered greeting while the girl ran to the woman and gave an affectionate push with her muzzle against her shoulder. She turned her head a degree to face the other she-wolf, but she remained close to Sky. "Why'd you call us out here? Need help with something?" she prompted, her tail wagging faintly behind her at the thought of aiding her, though by the howl nothing seemed amissed, so she was left to wonder until she got an answer, sooner or later.

Tharin

Family. Duty. Honor.

Word Count→ 000 OOC: never fear, Tharin is here!

Saki was passed out in the dens thankfully. He wasn't the best pup sitter out there, and had no idea why it was so much easier dealing with Lucia than it was with this new quiet pup. Perhaps it was because Kiara had been there caring for her, so he didn't have to do more than support Kiara and bring in the food, teaching what was needed when it was revealed to be necessary. His ear lifted when Kiara's familiar howl rang through the air, the slightest twitch in his body indicating the lack that he felt from the lost ear.

Shaking himself out he looked in the den again, and satisfied that she wouldn't be going anywhere he quickly traversed to where she was. Spotting Sky his form grew more stiff, standing out dominantly. His tail arched high, pulling on the full act. Normally he was rather relaxed, his dominance simply a matter of how he stood. Sky's insult was not forgotten though, and he wanted to keep a close eye on her. Bumping Kiara softly he did his best to not outclass the submissive female, ready to follow her lead. What are we hunting? His eyes cast over to the young pair that had joined in, smiling softly at their presence. It would be good to hunt with a group.

Family comes first.

It wasn't long before a few wolves appeared at Kiara's summons, answering the subordinates call to hunt. Sky was the first to show, a wolf that Kaira didn't know all that well. She was the other mother in New Dawn and her puppies were a couple moons older that Lucia. The female approached Kiara in her lupus form, a change that made the uninfected female feel grateful for. It was hard enough speaking to luperci and even harder when they towered over her like grizzly bears at full hight. Sky was quick to give Kiara and affectionate lick on the ear and bump on the shoulder, something the alabaster wolf was just as quick to return. Her own tail wagged quickly and she whined happily as Sky stepped back to ask her question. "For once, it is. I'll tell you when the other's get here."

To Kiara's disappointment, the first puppies to arrive were Lena and Cody, not Lucia. The blind wolf ran up to the arctic wolf and greeted her like mother had. Kiara licked the pups head and smiled at Cody who stood back and gave a simpler greeting. Lena, to some degree, fascinated Kiara. The pup had proven her ability to survive and it made sense as wolves weren't the most visual creatures. Although, how she learned to read social cues was a mystery to Kiara. "I've called you here to participate in a ceremony of sorts. One that was normal in my birth pack. I let you know more when the other's come."

Tharin was the next to arrive, but Kiara couldn't tell if any other's would follow. Hopefully, the whole pack would join in, especially Lucia. However, if they did not, at least Lena and Cody would be able to experience leading a pack hunt. With all of the questions aimed at her, the arctic female felt that she could delay no longer. If other's came, then she would just have to explain again. After a quick greeting lick to Tharin and a lowered tail to acknowledge the silver male's dominance Kiara began to speak. "I'm not sure how things work in New Dawn, but in my birth pack we always held a ceremony for pups. It was a right of passage almost, and I wanted to share that with everyone." Sapphire eyes focused on Lena and Cody, excitement clear in her eyes. "If you two are up to it, I would like the two of you to lead this hunt. I will take you into a herd I scouted, with your mother's permission of course. The two of you will pick out prey and we will help you take it down..." Kiara paused, wondering if she needed to explain how to find good prey.

It wasn't Kiara's first time hunting with luperci, but it was her first time hunting with ones so young. She knew that luperci could take down prey that non-shifters could not. Thanks to their weapons and extra strength, they weren't as limited and were more successful than normal wolves. With both Kiara and Tharin present, they would have to find prey that was already weak. "Any questions?"
