I'm still here

He looked at her, her skeletal form so fragile and frail. Never had he thought he would see his mother looking so defeated. It pained him inside, like seeing one of his sisters hurting. But there was no enemy to last out against, no one to fight to make things better. He could see the inside of their house, what used to be his home, it was nothing short of destroyed, wooden furniture littered the floor. Always, always she had been the strong one, the guardian, the protector, her name meaning. Vibrant eyes were dull as they beheld the fallen warrior.

The silence stretched on between them, and he rose from his knees, towering over her much shorter body. She didn't look like his mother anymore, she was a stranger that was merely familiar. Her old friends would have despaired at seeing her, Uncle Ookami would be horrified when he saw her. But as much as she didn't look like Mahnaya, she was. That much was unmistakable. For the first time since learning to take his alternate forms Honrin wished he was small again, when she was fierce and always sorted out the problems.

Her voice pierced his heavy thoughts as though from a dream,

"Call them. Call the ones who would come. Your sisters.. your father. It's time for them to come out." Then the woman turned and went back into the house. He heard excited yipping from inside, muffled by doors of wood. For a second Honrin allowed his tears to continue falling, making tracts in his white fur before he raised his head and let out his peculiar call, the booming bark in place of a howl. Who of their broken family would come and who would stay away.

Not long passed, Pandora appeared at his side, her cheeks already wet when she saw her brother. Her voice was quiet, a comfort, "'Rin..." Pandora pressed herself against him, seeking her own comfort in his strength. The smallest Denahlii girl trembled with fear and excitement and they both thought the same question. Would they be the only two to welcome out their new siblings into the world.

The dust was everywhere in Temo's shop. It had been a month of neglect that had let it grow thick on everything. It covered the tools that used to be painstakingly cleaned, sharpened and oiled regularly. The dust covered the lathe that had once been the attention of the dark wolf that built it. The dust was even on the half carved item that was still in the lathe as it waited to be remembered and finished. If someone happened to enter the shop, they would think that it had been abandoned until they noticed the footprints in the dust that had settled on the floor.

There was a stirring in the back room where the majority of the footprints led to and from when a call floated through the air and into Temo's ears. His head slowly turned to the door as he listened to the voice and what was said. He thought that it was odd because it sounded like Honrin calling a family meeting. Temo decided that he had heard it wrong with his addled and depression filled head.

But he decided that he should at least check it out and rose up from the chair he was sat in and shuffled out of his shop. It was a slow and painful trek across the compound for his thin body. With his dark fur dull and ribs showing, Temo joined the others that had gathered. His dark eyes no longer shone with the energy of life as he wondered what was going on.

He gathered his sister close as she could go, the smoke and white woman whimpering quietly as she looked about nervously and with good reason to. They would all be nervous around Jace for some time now, waiting for her to go berserk again. His facial wounds itched. Then another figure that had disappeared shuffled closer. Temo looked a lot like Jace had done, run down and thin, depressed and filled with hopelessness. Pandora immediately threw herself at Temo with an unhappy, high pitched whine at the state of him,

"Daddy!" And clung onto the black male desperately. The golden man held himself back though from greeting his father as Pandora had done. He let her have her time with the black male. Instead he watched with a frown, just as upset as his sister at Temo's state. Guilt coursed through him as he realised it had never occurred to him to check upon Temo, he had expected his father to be able to take care of himself, he never would have thought he would react like this and let himself go to waste.

The thoughts of Honrin & Ookami's conversation often came to mind. Jace wouldn't see anyone? He wondered why, he had't seen her in so long and he missed his best friend. He needed her, he felt like his life was starting to tumble down, he liked hurting himself, it was a release and he found it pleasurable. His forearms were covered in deep cuts, some fresh, some stabbing over. His knuckles were still all messed up, he would often purposely reopen those horrific wounds and respite his knuckles. He was angry all the time, at Adonia, at Zalen, at himself and at the world. He needed his best friend just as much ad she needed him, or so he would think when he saw her.

The bark echoed in his ears and they perked up, it was Honrin, calling for the rest of his family. Ookami couldn't help it, he had to go check it out. As he walked to the call, he instinctively crossed his arms, so his cut up forearms would be hidden. Finally he saw Honrin, his sister, and Temo... He looked just awful, so skinny and dull looking, the man's spark was gone. Then, then he saw Jace and his feet stopped moving. He whimpered, trying tk clog it with his throat. He then forced himself to move forward, his golden eyes burned with sadness and anger and worry. Never had he seen Jace this bad before, he whimpered softly again, "Jace..."

Behind her her son's call echoed, strong and powerful. She was proud of him, proud of her family, torn and shattered as it was. It was her fault, all her fault. Tears came but she brushed them away angrily. She shifted, sinking down into her lupus form, which only accentuated her thinness. Her spine pressed upwards and her legs bony, her ribs bulging out savagely. Her coat, a patchwork quilt was ragged and tattered, patchy in places, stress had caused it to begin to fall out along with her own teeth.

Her children were happy to see her, they knew not of the wrongs she had committed upon their older siblings nor of how their father hurt inside. All they knew was each other and their increasingly skinny mother. They spoke barely with babbling garbled words, their main word Mahn and occasionally mama. The whole litter of them was small, almost underdeveloped. They should have known the rest of their family long before now, long before they reached this stage. They run in between her legs and tugged on her sparse fur and she let them.

"Come now. Follow me." They toddled after her as she nosed the door open, out into the rest of the house, a world they had never seen before. She exited the house first and froze under the battered gaze of three of her family and her old friend. Neither Keldava nor Dalgina were anywhere to be seen. But Pandora was here, hanging onto Temo. He looked like she did, as though he had aged several years in the last month. There was nothing she could say to ever mend the wound, nothing she could do, only beg for forgiveness. Before she could say anything however, although Ookami's whimper and whisper had her hunkering down and avoiding his eyes, the children came spilling out from behind her. Well four of them did, Ky'Ry' with her sightless eyes was reluctant to leave her side and she picked her up by the scruff and then nudged her forwards, the little girl relied on sound and smell very much.

Temo's scent made up a lot of Jace's own as hers did to him, and was very present in the bedroom where they had been kept so it was to him they crowded first, recognizing the familiar.

Temo looked over his son and daughter and it felt like years since he had seen Honrin and Pandora last. They seem to look like they had been doing ok over the past month. It saddened him when he remembered that they had not visited him. He wondered where he had gone wrong in their upbringing that made then not check on their own father, especially at a time that he needed them. His thoughts expanded to include the pack as he realized that out of the whole pack, Dalgina was the only one that had come looking for him. So unimportant that it would not occur to anyone to check up on him during a lengthy and unannounced absence.

His thoughts were interrupted when Pandora threw herself at him and hung onto him. For a moment he went back in time to when things were happier and he saw his baby girl, Hi Pandora, how is my little girl?, he spoke quietly as he placed his hand on her shoulder. But it only lasted a moment before the oppression of reality bore back down upon him. It was now that he noticed another that had joined them. A face that he had not seen for a long time. Ookami? he whispered but was cut short by the emergence of Jace from the house.

He did not know who had come from the house. Whomever it was, it was not the vibrant, young and full of life female that he had been a mate to. Several tears seeped from his eyes and soaked into his fur at the emaciated state that she was in. Because of Jace's thinness and loss of hair holding his attention, he had not noticed the pups until they were milling about his feet. Puzzled, he looked down and it was a few heartbeats before he realized that they were Jace's newest litter of puppies. And his.

He knelt down which was difficult for him in his weakened state and having to brace himself on Pandora so as not to over balance and fall. why hello there, he said to them as he petted them and picked them up one at a time meeting his newest batch of children for the first time. As the rest of the world was forgotten for a moment, he felt a spark of happiness. What are their names? he asked Jace.

For somebody so huge his Uncle could move quietly when he wanted to. Honrin stared up at the large golden wolf with sad eyes. He heard Pandora muttering something to Temo at his question. He could feel a thousand and one things at this moment in time but instead he chose to block them all out, to embrace the numbing cold that surrounded him so much of the time, if he couldn't feel then he couldn't hurt. It still stung though and he could not escape the reality of it, their family was broken and torn, would it ever be fixed again.

All of their attention's were suddenly wrenched forwards by the emergence of his mother.. she was so so thin! It was even more painfully obvious now she had shifted and her fur was patchy and falling out, in other places it looked to have been ripped out. Then there was movement behind her and suddenly light came back to his life. Five youngsters tottered forwards, their stubby tails wagging at the adults surrounding them. Two brothers and three new sisters. His heart was full and suddenly all of the suffering he had been put through seemed almost worth it, to watch them gambol about, carefree and innocent. The pale boy dropped to his knees,

'Mother, they're beautiful.'

Temo's questioning voice rang in his head and he looked up to him with a soft smile, "Hello Temo." His voice was sad, the anger he held within himself draining out. Temo was in such horrible shape, as was Jace. She seemed to ignore his soft whimper and his voice as the pups came running out to greet Temo. He looked at them softly, he would be in the lands long enough to watch them grow up. He had missed Honrin and the other's growth, but he wouldn't miss these ones.

Amber eyes once again looked to Jace as he noticed her ribs and patchy fur. He wanted to wrap his arms around her and squeeze her, let her know that everything would be okay.. That he was here for her. But he felt like he would break her if he did that. His arms stayed crossed against his chest, until finally his eyes found the pups again and he knelt down, reaching his arms out to gently pet them. His cuts on his wrists were exposed, but everyone was in such poor shape, he was too... He didn't think it would matter right now.
