Midday-ish? 13.09.2012. Optime form. / 938

Niernan was becoming scared of his own lover; she was a ticking timebomb and each explosion of emotion was becoming more and more violent. He wrinkled his brow at that, violent probably wasn't the best word as she wasn't always physical, sometimes she would throw things and hit him, hurl insults his way and doubt his manhood, but at other times she just broke down into tears. It could be over the silliest thing, like him cleaning up or the way Cabbage and Pumpkin curled up together when they slept. So no, violent was not the right word, maybe energetic or prominent were better words.

Even now, as they sat outside on the roof of their house he could tell that her emotions were brimming over. She had a strange smile on her face but he could see that her bottom lip was starting to quiver and tears were welling in her eyes. Grace sniffed quietly and he knew that she was trying to hide her rapid change in emotion. He had a feeling that she knew that he was worried about her and somehow that equated to a strange emotional response. He had caught her cradling Leo the other day and cooing to him in puppy talk, when he had laughed at her she had smacked him upside the head, placed Leo on her shoulder so she could move her handpaws to her hips and fire a barrage of sarcastic comments his way. He had been blissfully happy to have his Grace back. She had changed from who she really was and he didn't like it. He had fallen in love with the sarcastic, smart-ass, dominant book lover, and now he had an overly emotional hurricane. He wanted his lover back.

He glanced at her again and reached out to wipe away the tear that was rolling down her golden furred face with his finger. She jumped a little and flicked scared ocean blue eyes to his cerulean, he placed a steady and warm handpaw against the side of her face, cradling her cheek. Her voice, normally biting or sultry, was tiny. Her fear of what she was becoming was evident in her quiet tones, "Niernan, I don't know what's happening. I'm scared of these feelings." She admitted. He nodded, silently telling her that he knew and he forgave her, his eyes expressing more than he ever could with words. A small smile found her lips and she placed her nose against his affectionately. He flicked his tongue out to lick her top lip quickly, thinking about how quickly things had happened between them, and how strong their feelings were. He froze then, cerulean orbs flicking to hers with panic but also a little hope. Things had progressed quickly and there had been that sudden afternoon of unrivalled passion a few weeks back, he hadn't forgotten about it, but he had forgotten all about any possible consequences.

He pulled away from their nose bump and laid his handpaw on one of hers, he held it briefly before letting his Irish tinted words slip from his maw. He saw her lips quirk slightly, they way they always did when she listened to him talk, her appreciation of his accent always welcome. I have to go do something quickly. You stay here and I'll be back as soon as I can, OK? He asked, his tone light and breezy so as not to worry the golden D'Angelo. She nodded, her eyes wide as saucers for the briefest of moments before they narrowed into the all too familiar sarcastic slits. "You better not be slinking off to drink with Bran , or swim with Ciaran without me. I'll find out if you do." She said. He grinned simply because this sounded exactly like the old Grace, the wolf that he longed for. He shook his head while he chuckled and stood slowly, brushing grass off of his backside.

As he moved away from his lover he heard a piercing whistle comprised of two swooping notes. He grinned over his shoulder at Grace, aware that she was watching him walk away. To entertain her he stretched his muscled arms over his head, making all of his corded back muscles bunch in the way that he knew she liked. He sauntered around the corner made by Brans house and cut into the thin patch of trees once he knew he was out of sight. He took the shortcut to avoid negotiating half the village to get to his Virdings house. He jogged most of the way, waving hello to those that were out and about but not stopping for a chat, his mind focussed on his little dilemma, the tiniest spark of hope sitting in the pit of his stomach.

He stopped outside Saul and Lilin's home, the wooden door inviting him to knock, making him think about the previous times that he knocked on this door. The ghost feeling of panic thrilled through him as he recalled cradling a wounded Turnip in his arms at this exact spot, but he shook it off, forcing himself to remember that the situation had ended well. He raised his handpaw to knock, hoping that he wasn't disturbing Lilin. He had noticed that she hadn't been about much recently and had assumed that she spent more time resting now that she was nearing her due date. He sighed to himself and softly called through the door, Saul, I need your help with something, He tried not to sound worried or desperate, knowing that him being worried would only worry Saul and he didn't want to add to his cousins burden.

Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

Life in Vinátta had, all at once, become slow. As if the coming due dates for both of the most important female's in his life had made time become sluggish for all involved. The anticipation was going to be the death of him, but at the same time, there was fear for Colibri and Lilin. He couldn't ignore the claim that Coli's mother had died giving birth to her and it scared him to consider a world where the chocolate female wasn't. He also had no idea what would happen if she did die- Lilin wasn't due for another week after Colibri, and the newborn pups would need something to eat. It was all such a stress, over-thinking these things, trying to second guess each situation and how they would react. For the moment, the male didn't seem to be able to allow himself to enjoy Lilin's pregnancy and it was wearing him down.

He'd been hunting a lot this past week or so, trying to prepare at least for the coming hungry mouths that would need feeding in a month or so. He considered calling a pack hunt, so they could at least bond whilst preparing for the influx of members. Temeraire was helping a little- he was trying to hone his hunting technique it seemed, despite how unique it was. So far, the boy had bought a good many wild birds, rabbits and smaller rodents for him and Saul was at least happy to see his son contributing. He worried constantly that his son was repressing his emotions, simply for the fact that he seemed to have little reaction to anything presented to him. Sighing softly, the male rubbed his face and moved back to his and Lilin's bedroom. As often as he could, he made sure to take the pelts and silks out, shaking them out and generally airing the room out so that it did not become stuffy.

Carrying the pelts over to the small window, opening it and shaking the pelts out one by one so the debris did not mess up the floor, Saul had a lovely view of the forest while he cleaned. It didn't stop him from hearing Niernan's voice, both from outside and from inside as well. His brow furrowed softly- he hadn't seen Niernan in a while, which he understood was because of Grace's moving in. He understood perfectly how wrapped up one could become and grinned, hoping his cousin wanted to catch up. Calling out that he'd be there in a moment, the male quickly flung the pelts and silks back over the bed, neatly but haphazardly before he made his way to the door. Unwilling to remain inside, he opened the door with a grin, stepping outside. Niernan! Its good to see you, what can I help with? He asked, green eyes searching his cousins face to see an odd mixture of emotions there.

Poor Niernan, he's so embarrassed. >.< / 531

Niernan didn't have to wait long until Sauls voice came from within the dwelling. He stepped back from the door as it swung inwards, revealing his grey cousin, Saul stepped outside of the house and greeted him with a wide grin. It was always pleasing to see Saul happy. Nier grinned back at him, the expression contagious. It seemed Saul had one of those smiles that made everyone else want to smile, even if they looked like an idiot for it. He knew he must look strange, with a grin on his lips and too many emotions vying for a spot in his eyes, but he was in such a state that he didn't really care how he looked right then.

He felt the grin slip a little bit as he began to talk, his excitement and worry both battling for dominance in his voice, worry ended up winning out and he could feel his shoulders beginning to tense. 'Lo Saul. Sorry to bother you, but could you come and check Grace out for me? He looked away for a brief moment, his cheeks flushing a brilliant red underneath his dark fur. He couldn't bring himself to look at Saul as he admitted his suspicions, I think she might be pregnant... He left the sentence hanging for a moment, his voice quiet and with a hint of realisation in it. Thinking to himself that she might be pregnant had seemed like a fantasy, but now that he admitted it out loud he was struck with a sudden heaviness. Reality hit like a ton of bricks and he felt his eyes bug out. If she was pregnant he was going to be a father. He was only 2 years old, he had no experience of puppies other than Sura and Teme, and Teme didn't count because Niernan was the fun uncle, he didn't have to be responsible around Teme.

It was in that moment that he felt the world begin to spin beneath him, it felt like a hood had been pulled from his eyes and he was now blinded by everything. He looked up at Saul, the man hadn't even pronounced anything yet, they hadn't even made a move towards Grace, but already Niernan felt the fluttering tendrils of panic reaching into his mind. He was sure that his cousin could see it and he hoped Saul had some comforting words for him, maybe something to say about fatherhood. Nier felt that Saul had done a bang up job with Temeraire, and now he had more pups on the way, the man was a natural father, and now Niernan was worrying if he was going to be a natural father. He let out a whimper, the noise was pathetic and he wished he had stifled it as soon as he felt it, but it was out now and he couldn't take it back. He decided he'd try and distract Saul from the very un-manly noise and ask another question; Can you tell if she's pregnant? Would it even show, I mean.... It happened a couple of weeks ago... He trailed off again, his face returning to its burning red colour under his fur.

Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

As he excited his house, a grin on his lips, Saul could see the emotion warring in his cousins eyes, despite the smile he returned. He'd rarely seen the upbeat male this troubled and he wondered what on earth could be wrong with him. Subtly, the Virding took a deep breath, taking in his cousins scent. All he could smell was Grace and their assortment of animals- there didn't seem to be an underlying scent of another that could have worried the male, and there didn't seem to be any scents of blood on him that could indicate a physical problem like that. He did notice that Grace's scent smelt a little strange, but he refrained from sticking his face against his cousins fur to get a stronger wiff. That would be embarrassing and he was certain the male would get what he wanted out. Sure enough, he was greeted, although he was quiet. His request was a simple one, though Saul felt his head cock to the side, brows scrunched slightly.

Before he could ask why, Niernan revealed his suspicions and Saul felt a gasp rush through his lips. More puppies? Along with a strong dose of surprise, joy and pride he felt, he could help but feel a little overwhelmed. With Colibri's pups and his own litter, plus Niernan and Grace, they would be overrun with pups. Niernan's embarressed silence was, for the most part, unnoticed- the grey Virding was deep in his own thoughts. As he began to come to terms with the fact, he realised that Niernan wasn't sure, hence the request. He looked up in time for the dark male to start explaining, and the male felt a grin tug his lips. His cousin might be a father too.

I'll come and examine her and see if I can find anything. Even if they don't start showing until a good month or so, there is a hardness in the abdomen that usually indicates things. He offered by way of explanation- he was trying not to overthink this and really get excited. There was a possibility that Grace wasn't pregnant, but it was job to find out. Gesturing for Niernan to lead the way, he patted the male on the back, still unable to fight the grin.

Saul seemed excited about the prospect of Niernan having pups, the little gasp that emerged from the mans maw and the grin that spread across his face as Nier admitted the possibility. Nier allowed a nervous smile to flutter onto his lips, maybe this wasn't such a bad thing, perhaps panicking wasn't the best course of action. He thought that maybe he should just calm down for a minute and actually assess the situation; Nothing had been confirmed yet, and he knew that if she wasn't pregnant he would be devastated. All of these thoughts were flashing through his head at the same time and it was becoming a confused jumble up there. He hadn't had this many thoughts crowding his head ever, it was a strange sensation and he definitely did not like it.

Sauls friendly and brotherly pat on the back broke him from his stupor, the dark Stormbringer jumping visibly at the physical contact. He chuckled nervously and stuttered into motion, moving back towards the way he had come, leading his cousin back to his hill house and Grace. Despite the mess in his head he managed to take in Sauls words, A hardness in the abdomen? That doesn't sound all that pleasant. He was thinking of Grace as he said it, imaging the discomfort that a pregnancy would put her through. They were both young and this would be a first for both of them, so logically there would be many hurdles to climb, and the hurdles wouldn't stop after the birth, they'd only increase. He'd be a father and life would be very different. He felt the world begin to spin again and reached over to pinch himself on the arm, the sharp pain snapping him back to reality and the steady pace of the paws carrying him to his potentially pregnant lover.

Cutting back through the trees and rounding Brans house again Niernan felt a flutter in his heart, whether from nervousness or excitement he couldn't tell. They approached the hillock of his house and he called out for his love, Grace? Where are ya Darlin' His voice was tender with a little quaver in it as he attempted to squash his nerves. Her dread locked head appeared over the edge of he roof and she smiled down at the two men, "Oh look, two intrepid Stormbringer men, come to rescue the damsel in distress." Her sarcastic tones drifting over to them. Nier smiled up at her and shot her a wink, We're coming up Sweetheart. He hoped that he'd managed to hide the nerves he felt about what was about to happen, his footpaws scaling the slope of the grassed roof easily.

Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

Saul could see the sickening worry and almost panic on his cousins face- he knew the feeling well. Of course, when Temeraire had arrived, he'd simply been dumped on his father- the Stormbringer hadn't had the near-on two months of gestation to get used to the idea of being a father. He'd panicked when Imari had turned tail and left, in fact he was almost certain he'd hyperventilated at one point. But after trying his best to figure it out, Saul had had Nayru for help. By the time Kahlo had been stolen from them and Nayru's inevitable hunt for her daughter, Temeraire had been old enough for solids and therefore was not dependent on the female for her milk. It was a terrifying ordeal, even with the near two month waiting period. His cousin seemed to consider his words for a moment, before the clap on his back caused his dark brother to jump. This was really hitting him hard, which he guessed was understandable.

After repeating his words and proclaiming that it didn't sound too pleasant, to which Saul shook his head. I'm not certain- Lilin and Coli didn't complain that it was painful though, so perhaps it isn't... He replied, thinking perhaps he should have asked the pair whether it has been uncomfortable. After his comment, the pair seemed to make a non-verbal decision to move and Saul was only too happy follow. The shortcut through the trees was pleasant, even if they were moving towards a potentially life-changing discovery. They emerged into the quartet that Niernan and Bran lived in and he wondered if the caramel and chocolate brother knew anything of what was happening. He didn't have much time to consider it, as Niernan called out for Grace. He was pleased to see his expression relax slightly when, from above, came Grace's sarcastic comment. At least she wasn't too out of sorts. Afternoon Grace. He called up, a dry humour to his tone. At Niernan's forewarning, the pair made quick work of clambering up onto the roof of the house. Despite having lived here for months, Saul hadn't thought of sitting up here- it was beautiful.

Spotting Grace sitting a few yards away, Saul could tell that if she was pregnant it was early. She still retained the slim physique that all Luperci seemed blessed with- although thinking about it, they were still wolves and maintaining their fitness was essential for survival. Looking towards his cousin, he supposed it would be in the males best interests to speak to Grace first about his suspicions, instead of Saul launching in and asking to examine her.

OMG! A wild reply appeared! / 413. 3 pts.

He listened eagerly to Saul's wisdom on feeling out pregnancies, reassuring the worried male that the hardening in the abdomen wasn't necessarily uncomfortable for the females, Lilin and Coli hadn't complained.... Wait a minute, Coli was pregnant!? That was a horrifying shock for the dark Stormbringer, the fact that she had become pregnant after that attack by the male. He hadn't known the full story of the attack but it hadn't taken much for the mind to leap to rape. He was sad and pleased for Coli at the same time. He knew that she had wanted a family but had been denied it, so having pups now was a blessing. A blessing that came from a trauma and it was likely that the little bundles would only remind the wolfess of that trauma. He hoped that she would rise above it and raise her pups to be brilliant little Vinattans. He held out hope for her, despite only having found out she was pregnant mere moments ago. It was in that moment of contemplation that he decided he must be incredibly dense or Coli was talented at hiding her bump. He mentally shrugged it off, focussing on the drama at hand.

Grace's sarcastic greeting was taken with a grin knowing that was her way of showing her affection. The Stormbringer males scaled the hill house and Saul looked over to him, green eyes catching his cerulean. Nier gave a wry smile and flicked his ears back, gathering Saul's meaning. He launched into an explanation as to why he had brought his grey cousin along to their little meeting on the roof. He looked up as he spoke, meeting Grace's questioning eyes, Sweetheart, I have a suspicion and I've asked Saul if he can check for us. It seemed that his words only created more confusion in his lovers eyes, he sighed quietly and flicked his eyes to her belly. I think you might be pregnant. He cast his eyes down and awaited the storm of words, the scathing insults and claims that he was a moron. But they never came. He looked back up tentatively and saw Grace with a startled, but humble look. By that expression he gathered that she had guessed the same, after all, she did know her own body better than he did. She nodded slowly and flicked her ocean eyes to Saul's face. "What do you need me to do?" She asked, her voice oddly tame and quiet.

Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

The male hadn't realised his slip up with his revelation to the dark Stormbringer. Logically thinking, he doubted Coli would have told anyone who didn't need to know about her pregnancy. But he hadn't thought about it as her name had slipped from his lips and he didn't catch Niernan's surprise. He was in his own world, trying to figure out if Colibri or Lilin had complained about this part being uncomfortable. He remembered both females complaining about their changing bodies- Lilin's increased appetite and Colibri's complete lack of one. He would need to tell Grace all of this, should it prove she was pregnant. As the pair scaled the roof and Saul gave his cousin a pointed look to say that it was his prerogative to speak to his partner about what was going on. Niernan's soft words were received with a small smile in Grace's direction before he allowed the male to get down to the heart of it.

Silence followed the words and Saul glanced down at the golden female. She seemed contemplative and Saul knew this was a big concept to get ones head around. He was already a father to Temeraire, but the thought that he would be a father with the woman he loved was overwhelming sometimes. Grace's demure words pulled him from his own quietness and he gave her a reassuring smile. Don't worry Grace, I just want to have a feel of your abdomen. He told her, his voice calm and even. If you are pregnant, there should be a hardening of the muscles there, in preparation for the pups. He said softly, before moving forward and waiting for Grace to recline slightly.

As he'd done with both Colibri and Lilin, Saul began to roll his hands gently, but firmly, across the stomach, using both to hold her stomach still and feel for the hardness that was typical of an early pregnancy. Almost immediately, the softness of a normal stomach was absent and Saul felt himself nodding softly as he took a moment to properly check that it was. After a few moments, Saul removed his hands and straightened. You're going to be parents... congratulations. He offered warmly, laying a hand on Grace's shoulder and squeezing Niernan's arm softly in support of the pair.

Sorry for the wait, and don't take offence from Grace >.< / 487

Nier felt a small, concerned frown fix to his brows as Saul spoke gently to his partner, the golden furred wolf listening attentively. She nodded and obligingly laid back on the roof of the house, baring her abdomen for Saul to manipulate. Nier sat in tense silence as his cousin rolled his handpaws over Grace's tummy, a small nod bobbing his head as he concentrated on the motion. Nier felt his throat begin to tighten with the emotion of the moment, already feeling the tears welling in his eyes and his words failing. Saul laid a handpaw on his arm and the other on Grace's shoulder, his voice, so filled with happiness and hope, proclaiming that they were to be parents.

Nier felt as if he had been poleaxed for a brief moment, the grin slowly spreading across his muzzle as the news sank in. He looked at Grace and saw that she was still in the shocked moment after the revelation, but as he watched her, still grinning like a shot fox, he saw the terror form in her eyes. He felt his grin slip slightly, sure that he looked a fair bit mad with the faint remains of a smile on his lips but the beginnings of despair in his eyes. Grace jerked her shoulder away from Saul's gentle touch and abruptly stood, her tail flat against her legs, her face fixed in grim determination. She shook her head and very simply said "No." Before striding off the hill house roof and disappearing into the house.

Nier sat back and felt his throat tightening for an entirely different reason, tears still threatening to fall. He jumped slightly as the front door of the house crashed open and Grace stormed off, bag thrown hastily over her shoulder and a frantic Leo trailing her as she jogged away from the house and her partner. Nier could hear the curious and confused mewls from the quoll pups, and he turned his own confused and hurt filled eyes to watch her departure. He sniffled quietly, raising a paw to wipe his nose as discreetly as possible. He knew that it was best to leave her to her own devices, she wouldn't harm herself and he didn't want to make her even more mad. He would let her get her shock and terror out on her own, comforting her later tonight when she returned from her walk.

He gave himself a shake and took a deep breath, clearing the blockage in his throat and scrubbing at his eyes for a moment, fixing a small and fakely bright smile on his face, turning to his grey cousin. He held out his paw for Saul to shake, Thank you so much Saul, this is great news. He felt his voice catch and vigorously cleared his throat to try and mask his emotion, not wanting his cousin to see how distraught he was by Grace's reaction.

Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

Grace was surprisingly compliant and leant back to allow him access to her stomach. The pair remained silent as his hand moved in what was now a practised motion across her abdomen. He was certain that he would be making the movements more times than he could count in future years, but having not encountered a pregnant female aside from Ever so long ago, this was a new experience for him altogether. That was the beauty of learning new things however, the thrill of learning a new skill or acquiring a new piece of information. He couldn't help the smile that sketched across his face when he felt the familiar hardness to her abdomen- the very early stages of what would soon become an expanding stomach. Straightening and announcing his news was a more joyful experience for the male- for Grace it was not so much.

The wrench of her shoulder from his grasp caused Saul's smile to slip from his lips in much the same manner as Niernan's had just milliseconds before his own. Her one word (and shockingly determined) answer caused a frown to etch onto his lips, but he made no move to stop the golden female as she scrambled down the side of the house. His green gaze found Niernan's and he couldn't help but mirror the flinch of his cousins when his pregnant lover slammed the door shut behind her. Moments later, she emerged with a bag and an angry expression on her face. Logically he supposed the shock never went the same way with all females- Colibri had very nearly had a complete breakdown whereas Lilin had been rather standoffish and defensive.

A soft sigh echoed from the male as he stood properly, making a deal of stretching so allow Niernan a moment. The soft sniffle told him his instinct had been right and he turned to look for Grace in the distance before the painful throat-clearing alerted him to his cousins need. Turning back, Saul offered the male a soft, encouraging smile. The Irishman's words sounded a little hollow, but he supposed they would do. It is great news, I'm very happy for you. But I think you should go and calm Grace down and talk this through with her... reassure her you'll be there for her. He offered softly, green eyes kind. With a squeeze to his cousins arm, Saul extracted himself from the hill-roof and headed back towards home, the news weighing heavy on his mind.
