Set for after it is confirmed Adonia is carrying Zalen puppies. Takes place in Glen Eyre

Word Count → 000

Even if Zalen preferred Adonia close to the communal den instinct dictated she find safety for her puppies. Especially after Adonia sensed many were against her and Zalen reproducing. Something told her no one was happy with it, safe of Shawcert and Tharin. The only two she could feel safe with, and both were male. However, Adonia never had female friends, so it was okay...really. Her paws carried her gracefully through the territory. She was too sleepy to dig, so first she'd find somewhere that looked like it could easily be hallowed for her. The slight density of the woods appealed to her and she also focused on being near water. Deer Lake was close and that pleased the young female. It meant food was readily available.

As she came close to the middle of Glen Eyre something caught her eye. It was a hallowed den and it appeared to not be claimed by any wolves. She knew several females beside herself was carrying, so she was being cautious of that. Slowly, her paws brought her closer to the hallowed out ground, ears forward. The young-to-be-mother brought her upper half closer. Nose scanning, ears listening. One could never be too cautious. Finally it seemed safe and she put her whole upper half into the hole to see how much she had to renovate and make bigger. As she looked around a dark lump moved in the darkness. Something was in here, and before she could pull slowly back the hissing noise was enough to make her fly back as a badger came barreling at her. Adonia fell back onto her behind. She went to quickly stand as the badger made another charge at her. Adonia attempted to get out of the way. His teeth came closely at her causing her to yelp out.

She wasn't sure what to do. Everytime she went to move the badger charged hissing and spitting at her.

Palaydrian had told Leaf they were going on an adventure today. In reality, the young woman wanted to revisit the site of the accident, though Jiva didn’t think it was a good idea and tried his hardest to convince her otherwise. Out of respect for him and wanting to follow his wishes, she had avoided it for weeks, but she woke up with that itch again this morning. Palaydrian simply needed to see the abandoned mine shaft once more, though her children had been transported to her garden and lain to rest beneath her favorite tree. Her nights had been plagued with nightmares of why it had happened and where she had gone wrong, but while Leaf busied himself with a plump furry caterpillar, Drin paced around the rocky mound and peered into the din below. Traces of blood were gone now, washed away by the rain and reabsorbed into the earth, but the rope she and Jiva had climbed up still remained tied to a tree and dangling down into the darkness below. She could see the claw marks in the earthen walls of the shaft and on the rock surface where they had scrambled up, but she couldn’t even remember that part. After Jiva had dropped down into the hole with her, her memory had just gone blank.

She must’ve been standing there for awhile when she felt the needle-like prick in her hind leg. Turning abruptly from being startled she looked down at the kit she had accidently knocked over. Oh I’m sorry Leaf! She exclaimed, quickly scurrying over to the tawny fur ball and righting him on his legs. He made a small yip-purr before giving his mother’s snout a small lick and hopping gaily about. Alright, let’s go, she said before scampering off after the small fox and running deeper into Glen Eyrie. Leaf loved these games of impromptu tag and though Drin normally led him around a wide perimeter to avoid collision with other pack members, but today she chose a shortcut. Leaf would want to feed soon and she wanted to make sure they were back at their own den by then.

It wasn’t long before a certain hiss sent shivers down Palaydrian’s spine and she quickly bounded ahead and grabbed Leaf by the scruff of his neck. The kit gave a shocked mew of protest but instantly went limp in his mother’s soft grip as she found a good hiding spot for him and deposited him in the underbrush. A gruff bark communicated he should stay put while she went to investigate. The next sound sent a whole different kind of awareness into the Omega’s body when she heard Adonia’s voice. Ah hell... she thought to herself, but continued to run until she came face to face with the scene. The fae was trying to get away but the angry badger was not having it. A growl erupted from the woman’s throat as she barrelled towards the badger from the side, careful not to get too close as she’d seen first hand what a badger could do to an overly cocky wolf. Her snarls and displays of dominance turned the violent creature’s attention away for a moment.

Adonia was starting to loose her patience, which Adonia had quite a bit of. This badger was slowly backing her against a tree. She had realized this quickly, but how was she suppose to take on a badger head on? Her back leg hit the tree, and her eyes now widened and her ears were pressed back. The usually quiet, and non-aggressive wolf husky lifted her lips silently. No snarl or noise came from her as the badger now had her right where it wanted her. It was at this time Palaydrian came out from the brush snarling and bristled like a mad woman, but with reasonable cause. One of her pack mates were in trouble. Adonia, though, had no idea the woman hated her. She knew other wolves in the pack looked upon her in a disapproving manner, but Adonia hadn't a clue that this female hated her the most. If Adonia did, she'd be questioning the protection.

Adonia was very greatful, and almost relaxed some, now that there was aid. This stopped though as the badger's hiss turned deeper, almost a yell really. It barreled toward Palaydrian teeth fully showing now. Adonia feared for her pack mate, and the last thing she wanted was anyone to get hurt on her behalf. Quickly, Adonia acted, not a thought of her own well-being entered her mind. The badger now fully facing Palaydrian the wolf husky aimed for the creatures neck. She was swift, the badger slow, but as she came down onto the back of the varmint's neck it turned, it's jaws trying to grab at Adonia. There was no backing down, she had no time to turn back, she was already in the motion. The badger screeched as Adonia landed herself onto his neck and part of his shoulder, her mouth gaped open enough to get as much of him, but the moment contact was made she bit down despite the fact she knew he could attack back.

The badger squirmed and screeched as it tried to grab anything of hers. The more it wiggled the harder it was for her to keep a hold of him. The strange thing was Adonia made no snarls, she was silent as her body was bristled and her lips snarled. Her eyes were tightly shut. Her grin was loosing, but the more it wiggled the more damaged she caused. Finally the large varmint got a grip on her the more he wiggled. His jaws snapped onto her cheek skin and fur viciously thrashing about. This was what prompted a snarl from her, and her snarl didn't sound anything like her soft musical voice. It was deep and demonic sounding. The pain was unbearable, but she wasn't thinking of it. All Adonia cared about was not letting Palaydrin get hurt because she came to defend her. The pain was well worth it as the badger thrashed ripping her flesh, shredding into. The scene was chaotic and all that filled the area was screeching and snarls as both thrashed about in a scramble of bristled fur and blood.

Palaydrian’s eyes now registered the burrow behind the hissing badger and slowly but surely, the Omega put two and two together. Adonia was denning! How could this be? Her and Zalen’s flirtations were enough to make her sick, but now she was carrying his children?! The realization somehow mustered even more fury in the woman as she continued her relentless display of aggression towards the bristling creature. Thank Luna Titania had lost her mind, for if she knew how fast her dark lover had moved on and planted his seed in another, she’d be broken. The young Soul shook the troubling thoughts from her head as she had much on her paws at the moment. The badger was proving to be a stubborn old bastard, not ready to give up his ground anytime soon even though he was outnumbered 2 to 1. His network of tunnels and underground caves was precious to him, it was apparent in his own ferocity as he only allowed Drin to move in an arching fan around him, his fangs constantly on guard and bared for any sudden movement. The girls didn’t have a lot of options with their common enemy and Palaydrian was about to bark orders of retreat to the wolfdog when she rounded the badger and attacked him from his blind side, managing to scramble onto his back and lock her jaw on his neck.

A different sort of anger flared up in Palaydrian’s chest. The Omega had defensively attacked this creature in hopes no damage would be done to her family, but here this foolish girl was putting her own life at risk by so recklessly throwing herself at him. What was she thinking? No! She screamed when the shaking brute managed to connect fang to Adonia’s cheek. Regardless of whether or not Drin liked the wolfdog, the girl was her pack sister and she’d protect the hybrid and remedy her mistakes. Drin barrelled forward, ears back and another fresh snarl tearing from her throat. Her skull connected with the badger’s body, causing him to withdraw his fangs from her sister and disconnecting Adonia’s own jaw from the brute’s neck. The sudden lunge caught the badger unawares and managed to knock the wind out of his lungs temporarily as he and the golden shewolf tumbled into the dirt. A mixture of Adonia’s blood and the badger’s was smeared across Drin’s forehead, but the foreign substance didn’t stop her from quickly rolling to her fours again and getting back into a defensive stance.

The beast’s bloodied black and white striped head leered drunkenly at the Omega. The damage had been done and his hissing came out in rosey pink puffs. He could either bow out now and live to fight another day, or risk losing his life by sticking around for another sudden attack. Drin took a dominant step forward, body language indicating she wasn’t going to back down or submit anytime soon though his claws had caused a few superficial scratches to bleed through her legs. She gave a low warning growl before taking another step, and this seemed to put some sense in the creature’s head. It began to back away and once it’s rump connected with the lip of its burrow, it hastily turned and made its retreat into the darkness. The gurgled sound of its huffing and puffing died away from hearing as it retreated further down to lick its wounds. A tired huff escaped the woman’s maw before she turned her angry gaze on Adonia. What were you thinking? It could’ve maimed you! She began to pace before the wolfdog as her adrenaline ebbed away. If Zalen found out you put his pup’s in danger...that was so foolish Adonia, she stopped pacing as the fight went out of her voice.

Turning a reluctant eye on her sister, she approached her stiff legged to look at what damage had been done. Here, let me see, she said with a sigh wanting to investigate her bleeding cheek. To be pregnant was a blessing and Drin knew first hand how fragile growing life was inside a mother’s belly. To see her sister so carelessly throw herself into the fray brought a whole different type of animosity forward in the woman, she hadn’t realized she had still been holding onto...how she longed to still be carrying her own brood.

So much commotion fell onto the scene, through her own snarls, and the badgers, that Palaydrian's no was lost within the snarls and screams. The pain was numbed through her adrenaline to keep her sister safe. Adonia wasn't fully aware what had happened to get the animal to let go, but when he had she too took the opportunity to disconnect and jumped back her lips bared fully as her eyes shown a glimmer of aggression she wasn't fully aware she had. Her hackles were raised as her tail rose higher than it ever had. It wasn't up overly dominantly, just enough to deliver the message that she wasn't going to back off. The badger's attention was on Palaydrian which was fine, but she if he dared to make another attack or any motion toward the omega, she'd be there to defend.

In truth, Adonia had forgotten about being pregnant. All that was on her mind was keeping Palaydrian safe. The Omega had no need to keep Adonia safe, she got herself in this mess. The words of Tharin entered her mind. She was in a pack. Her problems were theirs and theirs were hers. It was how it worked, and she needed to remember that.

The badger retreated, and for good reason. Adonia had damaged it's neck pretty good, but it too had damaged her. Her eyes were locked onto burrow entrance, but was swiftly broken when the omega spoke with anger in her voice. Adonia's ears went full alert then back as her tail dropped to tuck. "..I thought it was going to come at you, I didn't want you to get hurt on my behalf.." Her soft eyes glanced into the oddly green and maroon mixed eyes. The female seemed to calm some after a bit of pacing then came at her in a somewhat dominant manner. Her gate a little stiff. Adonia's tail tucked more as she then went into a sit as the woman wanted to see the damage. The wolf husky almost forgot about her wound. Blood had soaked all along the side of her face, and as the adrenaline fell from her body she began to realize how the pain shot through her. It hurt really bad now that she thought about her wound.

The badger hadn't shredded much of her skin. The surface damage wasn't all that bad, but the muscles in her cheeks were damaged pretty bad. Blood seemed to be pouring from her face, and she was beginning to drip to the dirt below which was already pretty blood stained from both the badger and her. As she came down from the adrenaline high she had realized just how careless she was. The badger could have done worst. It could have wiggled free, could have knocked her back, could have--no she wouldn't think of it. She was lucky, and she needed to watch what she did. She needed to be more careful. Adonia merely just sat silently and let the other examine her puncture wounds.

Her tongue made a clucking sound against the roof of her mouth while she investigated the aftermath of the silver fae’s cheek and she listened to her sisters words. The haughtiness went out of her, Adonia’s naivety taking the wind out of Palaydrian’s angry sails. The children growing in your belly are the most important thing now. Your safety and my own are now void...the gift of life...Adonia you must protect them at all costs, and steer clear of danger from now on. It felt odd giving her advice or rather a stern command, but for Adonia’s sake, it was much better keeping back the storm brewing behind her eyes. Let’s get this cleaned and see if we can find something to numb the pain for now, she suggested as she moved away from the burrow in hopes Adonia would follow. The Omega sighed softly as she moved forward remembering her son was crouching in the underbrush like a fawn nearby. The golden fae slowed and turned her head back towards the macabre wolf. I want to help you, but you need to promise to keep quiet about something, but before she could finish, the fox kit had apparently heard her voice and blew his cover, bounding out of the ferns and affectionately weaving between her front legs.

His odd chirping sounds seemed out of place after the small pocket in the woods had gone quiet from the violent disturbance, but the tawny child’s antics melted away most of Drin’s frigidity. Well...this is Leaf, she said, averting her eyes from the subordinate and focusing on her adoptive son. He was a secret to be kept at the moment and hopefully the other she wolf would understand. The tragic loss of her own children had not gone unnoticed within New Dawn, surely her acceptance of another canine would make sense. A void needed filling and Luna had provided. Leaf made a strange sound somewhat akin to a bark as his blue eyes floated towards the injured woman. That little bear is Adonia, and she needs our help. Will you help momma? She asked in a dulcet tone, a complete 180 from what she had just been earlier. Leaf nodded vigorously and cautiously approached the stranger before bouncing about like a slinky. He was clearly due for a nap soon as the tired drunk phase had taken hold of him.

Palaydrian laughed at his antics before continuing, we can wash you up by Deer Lake and I know of some plants that grow near the water that should help with any pain. Sky will have to look at it later as I’m no healer, but I know a good bit about flora and that’ll have to do for now. Drin turned once more and began to walk in the lake’s direction. Seeing her choice of direction, Leaf bounded ahead with his leaps and pounces, excited for the next adventure.

Adonia stared at Palaydrian with wonder. The woman was right, she needed to start putting her unborn children first. They were important, yes, but it had been hard for her to not think of another first. Her eyes lowered as her ears went back. "I'm sorry...you're right.." She said, almost like a chastised child. Looking up she nodded to needing to clean her wound. Adonia immediately began to follow the more superior member. Her ears perked as the female spoke of something that needed to be kept quiet, and before she could find out what a little fox kit came bounding out making chirps and weaving about the persian woman's legs. Obviously, the kit knew of the Soul woman. Adonia's tail wagged as she then approached the kit excitedly. The pain of her face momentarily forgotten. "Aw! He's so cute!" She went into a play bow, eyes sparkled like a puppy. "Hi leaf! You're a cute little fella...is Drin your mommy?"

The kit seemed cautious at first then pounced about playfully. Adonia chuckled and pounced back and forth, but the pain of her injury was soon remembered from the jolting motions. Her ears went back as she tried to hide the pain, "..well, perhaps another day, if your mom is okay with it, we can play." Her tail wagged with excitement at the thought. She loved baby critters and Leaf seemed like a perfect play companion. Her eyes looked up to Drin, "You have my word...I won't tell a soul about your kit..." She then began to trot forward following the woman to deer lake to wash out her wound.

The grin threatening to pull up the corners of Drin’s lips as Adonia fawned over Leaf remained defiantly glued in their place, her head was swimming with conflicting emotions. Her blatant disrespect of Titania being gone less than two weeks and copulating with the alpha raged within her mind. Why should she even begin to allow herself to like this woman, but as Drin observed her, she started to realize maybe it wasn’t even the blue eyed girl’s decision in the first place. The omega shook the thought from her head. She had come to the woman’s aide as a member of the pack right? Or was it because of the babies in her stomach....no matter, it had happened, duty had bound her too and it would continue to do so until she sent Adonia on her way. She grew impassive as they walked along, heart wrenching with the promises the hybrid gave to her scampering son and beginning to feel slighted by her own decisions of choosing to not like Adonia. She’s not evil...the rumors about Titania have been true...why am I clinging to this? Drin snorted, keeping her eyes forward while they moved along, Leaf continuously looping back to prance at Adonia’s feet like an enamored admirer before taking off ahead of them once again.

The subordinate’s next words chipped at Drin’s icy resolve. Her secret was safe, for now. Thank you, she said barely above a whisper. The angel was at conflict with herself, perhaps this was even beyond Adonia. As they neared the lake, the flora began to change drastically from the fern swathed woods. Ah, here we go, she said before taking a few seconds to shift. She’d never been shy about changing in front of people and was about to mutter a “sorry” when she changed her mind and picked the plants her eyes had been trained on. A few late dandelions and as her eyes began to scan the beach perimeter, Leaf came bounding up with a long green stem in his mouth, roots and all. This time the grin broke through and the mother laughed obviously pleased with his find. How did you know little bear? She questioned the kit, taking the impressive catnip plant from his maw. Amazing how hours in the garden seemed to be rubbing off on such a young soul.

Okay, let’s rinse that out first and then we can use these, she said in a singsong voice now that Leaf’s attention was her’s. She beckoned for Adonia to follow down to the lakes edge as she began to wash the plants. Picking off a few choice leaves from the catnip plant, she held them out in her open palm. Eat these, they’re calming for us and will relax you so your adrenaline ebbs away, she explained, putting a leaf on her own tongue and eating it up. The mild sedative would be good for both of them after what had happened, though too much could put you to sleep. It’d also help Adonia’s body to stop pumping excess blood to her face and give her an overall numbness. Do you want me to clean that for you? She asked, unware that Adonia was a luperci like herself.

When the mother thanked her Adonia merely gave a large smile and spoke cheerfully, "You're welcome!" The kit lightened the area, his cute chipper behavior rubbed off in the atmosphere. As the kit came bounding over, Adonia giggled and stomped her front end down when he came by to playfully startle him into running away. It was so cute and silly to watch him bound around. It was like he had endless energy just spewing everywhere. They neared the lake and Palaydrian shifted forms. Adonia's mind was on the kit, not paying too much attention to what Palaydrian was doing. She watched as it bounded away, only to return with some catnip, stem and roots. She smiled brightly sitting back on her haunches lost by the motions of the others. Her gaze then looked to the omega and nodded, following the woman as she washed the plants.

The woman handed her some herbal remedy. "..'kay." She took the leaves and chewed then swallowing it down. It was an interesting taste and texture on her tongue. It wasn't often a wolf ate leaves, but the texture was unique to her palate. Palaydrian asked if she would want her to wash her wound. Her ears went back shyly. She didn't want the woman to do more than she had to, already she had been too kind. "Oh, I can wash myself if you wish, I'll just have to shift forms, is all.." She then began to shift with the ease of one who'd been a Luperci all her life. She knew soon she couldn't shift anymore. It could danger the offspring, and with this injury of hers, it might be best to stay in her Optime form. Dipping into the lake she washed the blood off her coat and dunked her head letting her entire body get soaked. She hated blood on her coat, and now that the adrenaline was falling from her form, she felt tired and worn. The cool water was waking her and calming her, or maybe the herb was kicking in that fast. Reemerging, her wound was clean and she came to the shore of the lake with a shake and sigh, "That feels better.."

WC :: 5+ :: Sorry for the wait! It's been crazy IRL.

Watching the navy eyed woman entertain Leaf did something strange to the Omega. She couldn’t trust Adonia just yet when the wounds of Titania’s disappearance and Zalen’s infidelity were still fresh. The multi colored fae was a partner in crime to what the dark king had done, and this fact only colored the wolf’s paws red. Palaydrian couldn’t think of a more despicable way of remembering one’s former alphess than sleeping with her long time mate. It made the angel feel sick to her stomach and wonder how brainless one had to be in order to do such a thing. But Adonia seemed smart, and that only made her more untrustworthy. Had she so carelessly gone to bed with the Alpha in order to climb the ranks? Disgusting, Drin immediately pushed the thought away. Leaf was here now to burn away any storm clouds looming in her head. She’d remain cordial while he was around to the best of her abilities.

The fae didn’t allow surprise to wash over her features when the hybrid suggested she shift after taking the catnip leaf and following her instructions. Perhaps it was silly of her to think most of the New Dawn wolves were against shifting. This somehow made her feel better about her family though she and her mate had been feeling like outsiders for a few weeks now. So far, Drin knew only Tharin and Kiara could not shift...but there could be others within the more wild pack of Nova Scotia. Bi-colored ocean eyes turned away when the woman began to shift, granting the subord some means of privacy, but mostly because she felt it more respectful not to stare. Leaf blatantly gawked at the woman before scampering playfully down to the water’s edge. He knew he wasn’t allowed to go in, but his bravery grew with each visit to the lake and today he stood with water up to his tiny ankles.

Palaydrian blew out air with a chuckle as she watched the bright eyed kit splash about, sending shrill purr barks in the air until Adonia came out of the lake and was back on solid ground. The young mother managed to smile tiredly at the subord, nodding her head in response to her comment. She too abhorred the sticky substance of dried DNA upon her own coat. The golden woman turned her attention to the dandelions and began to cut the stem gently with the sharp point of one of her claws. She removed the blossoms so all that was left was a handful of split up stems, jellyfish-like suspended in the air. Leaf growled happily at her feet, attacking the yellow caps with youthful tenacity and managing to dust his entire face a sunshine shade of yellow. Drin sat down with her stems and began to squeeze the sticky wet substance from the stems onto the digits of her free hand. This might sting at first, but it should soothe the cut and keep infection at bay, she explained as she gingerly began to apply the substance to Adonia’s cheek.

Adonia glanced watching the little fox at times, giggling when he made silly noises and actions. She rose from the water then sat patiently letting Palaydrian do her thing. It was an interesting process, and it was difficult to be focused with a silly kit running around playing about. Adonia did her best to stay still for the woman. When the wound was touched she whinced and fought a yelp. It hurt really bad now that she was relaxed. Her whimpering eventually broke through, but quickly she hushed herself trying to be strong around her pack mate.

Once everything was done, her eyes glanced up earnestly to the omega. "..thank you..." She gave a weak smile. Palaydrian may not have been saying anything, but Adonia could sense something was bothering the woman. Perhaps the kit was the only thing standing in her way. For that Adonia was slightly thankful, but still, it bothered the wolfdog. She wanted to know what exactly was bothering the omega. Surely it had something to do with her and Zalen, what else could it be? Her ears went back and she let her gaze fall to the ground, "...well..I should leave you be now...I'm sure there are other things you must tend to...I'll go some where safer and relax. It would probably be best for both my puppies and I..."
