Word Count :: 318 OOC: This is not manditory, but is a pack thread prompt for the hurricane, no posting order is necessary, I'll wait until Sept. 24th for the next round to begin and have them start digging, lets get some volunteers *Jiva is in Lupine form* Nat please let me know if you wish me to change something!!!

The wind was starting to pick up, it wasn’t too bad, but Jiva could feel something in the air. He was alerted about it and could see the clouds, rain splattered here and there but it did not feel right. His nose twitched as he looked to his mate who had been alerted by his sudden stop they were just outside their watching Leaf be as cute as could be. The boy had been growing in his heart by day and he felt fatherly, and wanted the boy to grow up well and respected even in a pack. He had been extremely relieved when Zalen had seemed to accept the kit. He thought that something bad would happen when his alpha found out.

He could see the concern in his mates eyes. Something big was coming and it wasn’t going to be good. Jiva knew that he would have to talk to Zalen about this, make sure things were ok to move forward because he thought of the community den. There was a storm coming and it was big. He had Palaydrian get the boy and they all hurried to the alpha where they explained what they were feeling and saw. Zalen ordered Jiva to do what he could to protect the den from the torrent that would be coming within days, even hours.

That was what brought the young man to the mouth of the den, he howled for all, Drin was close by with Leaf who could feel the stress that came from Jiva. He was sure others would want to help make sure their den was not flooded. He knew that it was going to take many paws to dig out a ditch big enough to divert the water from their den. The howl reverberated through the trees as urgent for anyone who could use their paws to come and help their pack.

There was something wrong in the air. Tharin kept pausing in his border patrols to check, trying to figure out what was going on. It made him truly nervous, though he could find no sign of what was wrong there. Whining he did his best to refocus his mind and keep on patrolling, but he knew he wasn't the only one who felt it. There was no one who had come by the borders, not even the tiny prey animals that had no knowledge of them. They were just as uneasy and quiet as he was. It would probably be best if he just headed back to the dens, and settled down with the rest of the pack. He didn't like just being out here, tasting the wrongness and not knowing what it was.

The urgent call sent the large wolf into action, sprinting across the land. Had it slipped by him somehow? His eyes were wide, looking around the area. Spotting Jiva he quickly trotted over to the male, nudging gently against him. Are you alright? He checked Drin as well, pausing momentarily over the fox kit before he dismissed it, deciding that there were more important things to deal with than the puzzle of why she had a baby fox with her. There's something coming.

The male was deep in the woods, tracking the animals moving routes. The male wanted to be ready for his beloved mate, the one lady in all of his life that would give him children and together they would carry on their lives though they're children. Just thinking about the grey lady the male smiled softly with a magical tinkle within his good eye. The silver monster could tell that with the chill in the air that fall was coming, a little soon, but it was coming. The male worried if Fayne’s birthing den was going to be warm enough for her and the pups, the male would have to try to bring some natural warmth for her, furs, maybe even some stick over the front of the den to shield her and the children from the chilly winds that would surely love to sweep down into the grey lady’s den and breath into the small area, and take away the warmth that she worked so hard at making.

The howl came, it was Jiva, the male was calling for any and all members to help around the den, the male did not think twice, it was the pack as a whole that was in need help the male needed to stop being so selfish and thinking about Fayne and his small little family in the works. The male felt horrid Fayne had been on his mind more and more since she confessed to him that they were with pups.

It was in the air, everyone could smell it including Fayne. There was something big coming their way. It worried the Delta to know that something was headed for them when she was so heavily pregnant. Any small danger that threatened her unborn children's lives worried her profusely, but this was not a small threat. No, this was something much more dangerous. Her own self-made den was relatively close to the communal den so when Jiva's call sounded through the lands, she quickly made her way over there. First, she finished tidying her home pushing around her blankets and pelts to make a center for herself to lay in. She was prepared for the pups to come as they would arrive any day now, in the next week or two, which is why what they all sensed worried her so much. A shiver ran down her spine as a draft rolled in through the mouth of her den. It was warm in here, but she still had some work to do of her own to make sure her den was worthy of withstanding the cold.

The silver fae padded to the den coming up to Noah and giving him a submissive lick on the chin. She smiled brightly over at Tharin and focused her attention on Jiva. She was going to help no matter what her mate said. She could do simple tasks. Her eyes focused on the sky, it was getting darker, windier, and drops of water fell from the sky. This was only a precursor to what was to come. She was worried about her own den which could be easily flooded as it was under ground, but it wasn't the most important thing right now. Now, the pack needed to focus on preparing a place for everyone to stay during the upcoming disaster. Judging by the sky, it would hit soon and they would need to be fast if they were to finish in time. Worry gathered on Fayne's features as she stood there, thinking mostly about her own children. She flashed a glance to her stormy mate and nuzzled into his scruff, soaking up the comfort that radiated from him every time he was around her. Something is coming...I'm going to help Noah. Jiva needs as many of us as possible.

She felt it. Storms came and went with the wind, following an aimless path. But, this felt different. She felt the pressure drop, feeling the dark clouds she couldn't see pressing in. It almost as if she was being encased by an invisible force, pushing her and holding her in. The breeze that came was gentle, but ominous. They foretold a greater energy, and the soft wind that now blew was only a small fraction of it. She felt it, and she knew that the whole pack did as well. Something was coming, and it wasn't good.

She had been sitting in a patch of low underbrush, nervously sitting and feeling the approaching storm, when the howl sounded. She quickly rose to her two feet, and as she loped to the den, she had shifted down onto four paws. If this had been any other time, she would have been answering the call with an edge of excitement, long tail waving joyously. But, a seriousness overcame her as she approached the mouth of the den, and sensed her pack mates that had already arrived. Jiva, the one who called them. Tharin, Noah, and Fayne. She felt comforted by the prescene of her uncle, but she did not move to be by him, though she wanted to dearly. She wasn't here to cower like some some would expect her to do. She was here to help her pack.

Kiara had been in the streams, trying to enjoy the bounty of large spawning fish that they provided while at the same time ignoring the harsh realities that surrounded her. Her son was still in Amy's grasp, his mind had been twisted into something unrecognizable. The problem with Tharin had become even more complicated as their relationship evolved. Yet, there was something bigger that concerned Kiara, something far more instinctual. Kiara could feel the tiny drops of rain and drop in pressure that was caused by the storm front, but it seemed so much worse. The arctic wolf wasn't really sure how to describe it as this was the first time she had ever felt this way, but it felt foreboding. There was a disaster coming, but the snow wolf couldn't figure out what.

The call from Jiva caught Kiara's attention, causing her to raise her muzzle out the stream and let the fish swim away unharmed. So she wasn't the only one. Jumping into the deeper parts of the stream, Kiara paddled to the bank. Once ashore, she took off for the communal den and found that many wolves had already gathered. Kiara gave quick greeting licks to the members present before taking a spot close to Tharin. The air was tensem both from the groups nervousness and from the approaching calamity. They could all feel it, they all knew what was coming. Kiara looked around briefly for Lucia, wondering if she would show up. Before the storm came, Kiara would have to find her make sure her puppy was safe and out of harms way.

Sky's in her lupus form.

There would always be a haunting chill that came with any storm sense. She'd experienced the deadly forces of nature once before, when the snowstorm last winter had destroyed Thornbury's edges. She knew this feeling, what kept her fur on end despite feeling relatively calm. A storm was coming. A big one. So when Jiva's howl sounded in the air, she knew its meaning before hearing it out completely. The pack had caught on to the coming dangers. It was time to act, to build defenses, to survive.

She turned away from her border patrol and ran full-tilt back towards the den, her lupus form serving her well. She slowed upon arriving, tail waving behind her, fur still completely on end- her hackles stood up, despite there being no real hostility there. She whined and kept her posture relatively submissive to prove it, as if to silently apologize for her fur's mixed signals.

She brushed against Lena upon finding her, pushing her head into her daughter's scruff and then turning to look at the rest of the group. Jiva. Tharin. Noah. Fayne. As her eyes scanned, Kiara arrived as well. A good group, so far. Ignoring the bitterness she felt for one particular packmate, she looked over to Jiva expectedly. "Nothing like a good storm to bring us all together, eh?" She mused sarcasticly. "What's the plan, Jiva?"

Word Count :: 455 OOC: Round two is a gooooo!! Smile dig well peeps!!

A good number of wolves joined after his call and he was proud to see his brothers and sisters join him in the assistance of keeping their den safe. He nodded respectfully at those that came, and waited for others for a few minutes longer, his heart thumping in the fear that he felt for this storm that seemed to be rolling in quickly. Once he was sure most were gathered, he would begin talking; “It seems we are about to be hit by a storm of great proportion, with the wind and the rain now, I think it will get worse later, so Zalen has told me to make sure to keep the den safe. We need to use our paws and dig a long ditch to keep the water running away from our den, If we work together we can get this done in no time.”

He went to Tharin and Noah, “You two can start here, it needs to be pretty deep but it must not be a hollow ditch, it needs the water to run down in it with the rain that comes in. Head over this way while you dig, One of you will face this way while the other faces the other direction, that way ti will be wide enough for the water, I suspect there will be a lot. Jiva said motioning his nose in the direction he wanted the two to dig. He wasn’t sure how Noah would go about digging, he had only one front leg but he was positive the man would do what was needed.

He turned to Fayne who was purely about to pop, motioned to sky, as well. bringing them to a spot further away from the den, they would connect the ditch where they were to Tharin’s and Noahs’ “You two work here, as I said to the men, don’t make it only down, head towards the men over there and Fayne, please be careful.” He said giving her a meaningful look. He put Sky with her because he kenw the woman would stop Fayne if she knew she was working herself too hard.

He motioned Lena and Kiara a bit further, closer towards the forest that lay beyond; “Dig here, and go towards the women over there.” Jiva said. He watched for a second to make sure they were doing what they needed and headed to where the runoff would head so that the rain would wash down and started digging himself, heading towards Lena, it was hard work, and was sure with this many paws they would be able to get this task done in no time.

Meow:: Blargh! Jumping in! I got too swamped last week. WC:: 3+

Something was coming, Drin had felt it in her bones and the usual cacophony of morning birds had gone missing in the AM. The air felt full of apprehension, unusually warm for the dying summer, and slightly oppressive...the sky was too ominous to ignore. Relief flowed through the woman as her mate picked up on her anxiety and decided they should seek out Zalen. Tricky, though Leaf had been accepted by the alpha, Palaydrian still chose to den in the birthing burrow Jiva had dug out for her. Only a few of her closest brothers and sisters had met the growing fox kit and she wasn’t yet ready to introduce him to the whole of the pack. Yet, Jiva was right. If they sensed danger, it was their duty to bring it to Zalen’s attention and the rest of their family.

Swallowing pride and defensiveness, Palaydrian trailed behind her lover occasionally glancing back to make sure Leaf was at her side at all times. Not much further little bear...stick with me, Daddy has work to do. She felt anxiety tugging at the corners of her mind as the full assault of pack wolves attacked her nose, but there was no turning back now. Warning was given, concerns had been made and suddenly Jiva was calling all with his howl to help aid and fortify their den from the impending storm.

Drin’s hackles remained on guard, it seemed the natural response to wanting to protect her young overrode all else as she watched the familiar faces appear. What would they think of her with her fox kit? Would they judge her and Jiva? It didn’t matter as Leaf cowered beneath her, she only cared for his safety and today she needed to stand by her choice. Listening to Jiva give out orders, she spoke to him in a soft tone, I’ll join my girls, she said indicating she’d help out Sky and Fayne. Both she and the pack’s healer would be able to tell their friend to ease off if she was working too hard.

Tharin nuzzled Kiara reassuringly, wanting to make sure that she was alright. No one seemed relaxed at all with the weather threatening above them. His eyes scanned the rest, checking Fayne and wondering if she should really be involved in this task. He didn't want her to strain her body too far. It was good that Drin would be working with her, though he didn't trust Sky to be able to aid her. It had less to do with her abilities and more with the unease that he felt in her presence, unable to trust her.

He took the assignment without a word, deciding that Jiva probably knew what he was talking about. Tharin found a good position and began to scrape away at the ground, doing his best to mark out a wide section to deepen and dig through. It started by the dens, and the dirt began to fill the air, Tharin pushing the dirt piles to the mouths of the den. It would be a mess to clean out afterwards, but it was better than dealing with having to find a new place to stay after everything was flooded.

She nodded somberly as she was one of the last to be addressed, and did not wait for Kiara as she approached where Jiva must have pointed out at. Digging was something she could do; it didn't necessarily require sight, and she only needed guidance from someone to make she was digging in the right path. So, without delaying, she tore her claws into the earth and started a rhythmic motion.

It was somewhat hard to break through the ground at first, pulling up grass and getting clumps of hard dirt stuck in her paws, but soon the ground gave way and she was shoveling quickly, earthly debris flying from behind her. She was careful not to make it deep, like Jiva mentioned, occasionally pausing to check the depth with her leg. She sensed the man near her, and began to push away dirt that led into the direction where he stood. She was not sure if the arch she was making was perfect, but it mattered little to her. She was not looking for perfection, she was trying to protect her pack.

Jiva's plan was a good one. He instructed Sky with Fayne and she nodded carefully, giving her daughter a quick glance before trotting over to join the silver mother-to-be, brushing against her gently in a show of breif affection- she'd be just fine. As she positioned to get started, Drin showed up and joined her team, which suited the wolfdog just fine. It was good to work with the two of them- they'd shared plenty of good times and now, it was time to share the hard times too.

She gave only a soft yip to warn them and then got to work. Her paws dug at the hardened ground and with rough pads and strong claws, breaking through that top layer was easy. Whatever the other two did to help would be fine- her attention was split between the act of digging and how deep she was going, glancing over to check on Fayne often enough to be sure she was alright. A hard worker and determined not to lose the den to the storm, Sky worked in muted silence, the only real sound her panting and occasional whine or growl as her claws snagged or the wind ruffled her the wrong way.

As soon as she reached Tharin's side, he nuzzled her gently, trying to reassure her. The female's instincts were going wild and screaming at her to run, to take cover. Something big was approaching, and it was bound to be as bad as a mid-blizzard avalanche. Kiara's ears flicked back and she buried her head into Tharin's shoulder, breathing in his scent and strength. Reinvigorated, Kiara looked to Jiva for instructions, her sapphire orbs blazing with stoic concentration. Her eyes traveled over the group, noticing the prodigiously pregnant Fayne and Drin. Kiara smiled at Drin, her friend and ally since before she had joined New Dawn. The fox kit at her feet however, got a curious look. It was a young thing, and followed Drin as if she were it's mother. Kiara tilted her head, noticing the oddity. However, curiosity was all she felt. There was no sense of harsh judgement in her gaze, just a couple questions and the desire to get a closer look at the kit.

Jiva's instructions snapped Kiara back to the task at hand. She nodded and gave an affirmative woof before joining Lena in digging. Her paws eagerly scratched at the earth, large claws and tough pads racking at the earth. Digging she could do. For a moment, Kiara forgot her task, digging too deep and ignoring the length that she needed to go. However, one quick glance up and the arctic female was able to recover. She worked diligently, despite the mounting anxiety that grew in the pit of her stomach. The storm was approaching and would soon be on them. Kiara continued to dig, her paws moving quickly and efficiently. She had gotten plenty of practice during the spring after all.

OOC hereeee. Is this too shiny for you? :O

After the male had heard his command he had set to work, making sure that the Gamma had room to move and kick around if he needed, giving him a second look the silver male stood with his back legs spread wide over the invisible line that was going to be the trench that they were going to be making around the pack den the male knew how to dig with the best of them, he knew that his part might take a hair bit longer but it would work.

With a smile on the male’s face he pushes his front leg down and pushed down into the ground as hard as he could as he dug into the ground and then took a step back repeating his actions over and over till he started to get a good path dug up and then walking back to the front the male walked back to where he stared and moved to the side only a bit, sure he was forcing himself to stand upon uneven ground, but the male didn’t mind, sure if he was digging for pleasure then he might, however this was not pleasure this was life or death work. The male knew not to mess around and went right back to work with his flicking and pulling. Sure the others could move down deeper but Noah knew when it came to making the length that he just might be one of the fastest wolves of the lands.

Word Count :: 312 OOC: You guys rock!! Keep it up Big Grin

The work was hard, especially digging into the packed earth that had been made by the wolve’s coming and goings but they were able to break the ground and move with ease, though some spots had hard roots, and rocks, the going was steady, he soon had a large area for the water to spill out into the forest and then he moved closer to the others so it can complete the length. They were all doing a fine job and Jiva felt pride in his pack that they were all able to work quietly together. The Shawchert man decided on doing something else, and Jiva wasn’t sure what, though he knew he could have used the large man’s help. They could work without him, he wasn’t the only one nearly absent to this project, but there was so much to do to keep the pack safe and sound.

Whatever the case, most of the pack was here and working diligently and hard it would be a matter of an hour before they were entirely done, and that was a good accomplishment with digging as fast as they could. He Had to glance at Drin every once in awhile, he knew she would help out if she wanted, but wasn’t sure if she would because of Leaf, but it seemed he stuck to her like glue and things would be fine. He saw Kiara’s look, curious but not disapproving. Jiva did wonder how the pack thought of his new young child, but he would not be asking them their opinions on the little animal any time soon. His muscles were starting to ache, but he was close to where Lena and Kiara started now, his length nearly done, He would help if anyone needed it, but so far it seemed they would not need as much help as he thought.

Noah's movements to compensate for his handicap was impressive. Tharin watched as the three legged wolf managed to make a fair stretch marking where to dig, slowly and painfully digging it out. Tharin's own movements were quick and messy, deepening the parts that Noah touched and leading it along to reach the other canines. Their part was fairly important since it was the one that was the first line of defense before the dens. It wasn't as deep as the parts that Kiara and the others were digging, but it was still important.

Occasionally he hit rocks digging through there, small ones that only stung as they struck his paw and sent a sting through him. It was lucky that the ground where the dens where was already naturally softened for digging. It didn't make the given task much easier, but at least the ground gave way easily when they churned into it. The success of the various groups was obvious, and Tharin doubted they had much longer to go before they accomplished, many of the edges already reaching towards the other groups. He hoped it would be finished in time.

Fayne stared back with a serious gaze as Jiva addressed her directly about being careful. She most certainly would heed his words and make every moment as slow and gentle as she could careful not to strain herself. She'd also take breaks when she got too tired. She began her work, glad that Noah hadn't disapproved of her need to help. He was here, able to watch her, the same as her pack sisters who dug along side of her. It wasn't too difficult to dig, but she did tire rather quickly and was forced to take frequent breaks. When she dug, her paws were fluid, making sure she dug with one at a time so her stomach muscles weren't straining trying to hold her weight up. Her progress was slow, but at least there was progress.

The help she was offering made her feel ten times better, got her mind off of her own den which would surely be ruined during the hurricane and her mind off of her paranoia and frequent nightmares. The pups were soon to arrive, she just needed to keep them safe until then. Emerald eyes glanced over at her pack mates as she dug, watching their techniques which were far faster than her own seeing as she could only dig with one paw at a time. Even so, she was helping and with all of her family working to make the den safe during the storm, it surely would be. The whole time she worked, a wide smile splayed across her lips. The wind was picking up and the rain was falling harder, but she was glad to be working on something, even if her pace was much slower than the others.
